Customer Reviews:
A useful part of any coaches library.......2006-12-16
Although I have never played hockey, I coach a youth roller-hockey team and I find the descriptions and drawings of basic skills extremely useful for improving my ability to explain the core techniques of the game
Very Helpful.......2006-03-23
This book in my opinion is very helpful to first time players and people who are learning about the game. It has pratice techniques and different drills for all positions of the game which I find to be helpful. If you're a first-timer in the game or want something to give you ideas for drills this book is for you.
it is a great learning book for new players.......1999-07-22
it is the best book ive readfor learning to play hockey it teaches you everything
This book is a very drill-orientated book........1998-04-17
Overall, I was diappointed with this book. The
main focus was on drills and I wasn't aware
of it. The drills in it are great. They have
many drills for each individual skill.
However, the text wasn't that good. It seems
like it was written from an ice hockey
player's view point. There was little
consideration for the difference between
roller and ice hockey.

This book was very informative and helpful........1998-07-15
This book was very helpful. However, it gave too much advice about things I am good at. Such as skating, simple shots, etc. This is the ideal book for beginners and those who want to get started.

Love, it's the best!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-03-09
A great comprehensive goaltending book. Stretching, taking care of your equipment, practicing, playing, and visualizing...this book has got tons of information and is very helpful. I'd love to see some follow-ups going even further indepth!
This book helped an aspiring goaltender.......2002-04-14
I'm 30, never played a minunte of hockey, and want to play goalie. This is the book I bought. I loved it, because of the general all around information it provides. From stretching, eqiupment, technique , to mental toughness. It also does not talk down to you, as you were ten years old.
My only complaint is the lack of depth in the equipment chapters. If it was an all encompassing book, I would have liked more information on kinds of different pads, masks, gloves, ect.
I recomend this book, they tried to help all areas, and I think it worked on me. And I now play goalie twice a week.
Hockey Goaltending is an outstanding starting book........2002-01-19
Offering a well writen and condensed description of both Ice and Roller/Street hockey for a person wishing to learn the How To's of Hockey Goaltending. It has great descriptions backed up with photo's to truely give the reader an idea of what is being described.
I am in my first year of a Roller Hockey league and have found this book to be outstanding for my level of play. My game has drastically improved and my understanding of the position has too.
I would recomend this book for any and beginner to intermediate levels of players.
The Greatest Goaltending BooK eva.......2001-10-24
For all u lucky goalies out there.......U hafta read this book. it's no comparison to any other goaltending book out there. not only does it give info. for ice hockey goaltending it ALSO gives info. for roller hockey goaltending. Of course it also has a forward written by Martin brodeur the best goalie on the ice. U gotta buy this book and u wont regret it.
SO GOOD.......2001-09-06
I have been a goalie of hockey for 6 years and i know a lot, although i thought i did untill I got this book. This book is telling me stuff i already know, but also a lot more and i have gone through it with in an hour of having it; i aint took it all in yet, but i am gonna read through it loads and loads and try and coach the younger kids from the book.
It is a must buy, cuz when i told my coach i got the book he told me he had also got it and helped him loads.
If you gonna buy.

Book Description
"Liz Miller has really done something special. Advanced In-Line Skating gives the reader a taste of all the wonderful possibilities a pair of in-line skates can provide. It will be a great resource."--Kris Simeone, Inline Certification Program Director, International Inline Skating Association
"Liz Miller's passion for the sport of in-line skating comes across clearly in Advanced In-Line Skating. This is the most complete resource for skaters of all abilities and includes all they need to reach their next level. Liz leaves no gray areas in explaining even the smallest details of every in-line discipline with factual, up-to-date information and resources. I recommend this book to everyone, even beginners, for a comprehensive overview of in-line skating."--Suzanne Nottingham, Examiner, IISA Instructor Certification Program, coauthor of Fitness In-Line Skating
"This book cracks open the world of in-line skating for those looking for more than straight-line skating on their local bike path. As people look for innovative ways to reduce stress, have fun, and get and stay fit, Advanced In-Line Skating delivers a timely guide to getting the most from a pair of skates."--Adam Steer, Director, In-Line Certification Program, Canada
"This book is the next logical step after Get Rolling. It's brimming with well-written, advanced skating techniques and key exercises to help transform you into the skater you want to be. It covers everything from speedskating, roller hockey, agressive, downhill, hybrid sports to essential safety tips, shopping advice, definitions of skate terminology and just improving and sharpening your rolling-around skills. Pack this book (with your helmet) in your skate bag and take it with you to the trail, road, or rink. It rocks and so will you!"--Jim Fink, Seattle Skate Patrol
Customer Reviews:
Advanced?.......2002-01-13
I was looking for a book on advanced techniques - this is NOT the book. She covers roller hockey, speed skating and other topics very briefly. The book is misnamed...........should read "In Line skating Activities".....
Don't bother.......2001-12-22
Advanced? Are you kidding? This book spends a lot of time about covering a broad range of topics - but none in depth. I was looking for a good book on techniques -- well this is NOT the one. It is very superfiscial and not worth buying. I found some "beginners" books with more info!
Interesting reading, but broad rather than deep........2001-03-26
This book covers fairly diverse inline areas- speed, hockey, fitness, etc and as a result does not delve too deeply into any one area. If you wish to pursue any one aspect of skating, I'd recommend finding something more specialised. For example, the two areas that I specifically wish to pursue, double push and stair riding, are not covered at all. I find it especially puzzling that stair riding could be missing from a book with this title.
Still, as broad skating book, it's quite interesting and does have some good stuff on stroke technique.
verey good book.......2000-12-17
good book it tells you the basics and more. i loved it cause i love to in-line skate if you dont now after you read it you will...
hope you like this book! infact i know you will by daniel pruitt

Useless.......2007-09-01
Clearly not written by hockey people.
I could give numerous examples like pg 40 "Get Your Players' Attention" "Make sure they aren't looking into the sun or at some distracting activity."
Practic plans are a joke. No way someone could run a 50 min practice based on these practice plans.
Hockey review.......2007-03-14
I needed to understand how to teach children under 10 the game of Hockey and start towards gaining a coaching award in this age group. This book gives me a greater understanding of what turns on a childs interest and haw to maintain this interest.
A Must for the Hockey Coach's Toolkit.......1999-05-07
This book offers a comprehensive set of introductory materials needed for the first time or experienced hockey coach. It is useful for either ice or roller hockey. I particularly appreciated the author's including the social, communication, and motivational aspects of coaching youth sports. Full of handy checklists and drills to emphasize the needed skills, this book provides a solid foundation for developing "your own" hockey teaching and coaching program. The drills and progressions are excellent. The book would be better with more technical emphasis on skating skills and techniques. But overall, I would recommend it for any coach or parent who is close to this fast-growing sport!

Book Description
Cris Murphy is into aggressive, oraggro, inline skating. He loves flying through the air, doing tricks on the halfpipe, and grinding on the rails. But when he has a chance to try inline hockey, he decides to give it a go - much to the disgust of his friend and fellow aggro skater, Max, who thinks inline hockey is for losers. Cris isn't so sure. Much as he likes the independence of aggro skating, he finds he likes being part of a team, too. But will Max and Cris's friendship survive if Cris chooses hockey over the halfpipe?
Customer Reviews:
Inline Skater.......2002-04-24
The book Inline Skater by Matt Christopher was a good book. I liked the tricks they did on rollerblades. My favorite character was Chris. It took place in California. I recommend this book if you like street hockey or inline skating.
Hockey or a Skater?.......2002-04-09
The story is about a boy named Chris Murphy who is an aggro skater. All his friends are skaters, too. His friend Max hates hockey and says that they're for losers. His dad and brother who are hockey players want him to join a hockey team. As soon as he joins, he and Max aren't friends any more. If you are into skating then you should read this book. If you aren't you should read it because you would feel like you're in the story.
inline skater.......2001-10-26
A young man who likes to get air on a half pipe, grind on rails, and do tricks. Now he will have to decide half pipe or hocky rink.If he joins hocky he knows his friends wont like him any more, but he could allways make new ones by joining a team. This book is good for people who like inline skateing and hocky.
What this book taught me........2001-04-11
I really like rollerblading and my dad built a ramp in my backyard for rollerblading. And I rollerblade almost all the time. Cris and Max are friends in the book and they rollerblade a lot. Cris' dad and brother play hockey and his dad told him to give hockey a shot. Cris joins the team and he didn't want Max to see him because Max thinks hockey is for losers. In this book I learned that you can do anything you want and don't think about what your friends think. Just go and do what you want. It's your choice. And I learned really cool tricks like 720s and 540s. I didn't know that rollerblading and aggro skating were the same thing. I predict Inline Skater is going to be the best book in the series!

Roller Skating Radials.......2002-06-12
I rated it 5 stars because I love hockey. Also because it was cool how they had a hockey team. I've tried that before and it's hard to start.
sweet book!!!.......2001-05-12
This book was great, I think the moral is that kids can make a stand and should fight for what they want!!
Roller Hockey Radicals is Awesome!.......2000-01-29
It's about Kirby and he moved to a different town. He wanted to find some friends. Eventually, found a roller hockey team called, " The E-Street Skates". It was exciting! It had a lot of info about roller hockey. This book was REALLY RADICAL!
A great book for hockey enthusiasts ages 8-10.......1999-04-12
Danny Spottl, 3rd grade, The Piedmont School, High Point, NC. Kirby Childs moved with his parents from Minford to Valemont. It was summer break and most of the kids were at summer camp. So it was hard for Kirby to find kids to play with. Anyway, Kirby met some kids that were playing roller hockey on E Street. Soon, they invited him to play. The team played every Saturday against the Bates Avenue Bad Boys, which was the only other team in Valemont. The Bad Boys played rough and injured the E Street Skates' captain. The parking lot where they played also needed repair. Kirby's parents were worried and didn't want him to play. The team had a petition to raise money for the parking lot to be fixed. They also got a referee to make sure that the Bates Avenue Bad Boys couldn't break the rules. Now, Kirby's parents were happy that their 13-year old found friends to play with. My favorite character is Lainie because she is the E Street Skates' goalie. I also play goalie in my team, the Jamestown Hurricanes. I like the parts in the book where they report how the games are played. And I like the book a lot because it is about hockey which is my favorite sport.
IT'S THE BEST BOOK I EVER READ!!!!!!!!!!!.......1999-01-15
I think every body who likes sports should read this book! It is about a boy named Kirby who just moved to Valemont and doesn't have anyone to play with. He ends up forming a roller hocky league and raising money to make a roller rink for the town. GREAT BOOK!!
