A Useful Reminder.......2007-05-15
There is not much that is new here in the field of Mental Preparation and Approach to your chosen sport or occupation but its great beauty lies in the way it is presented. The message is clear, simple and easy to follow. One can relate to many of the scenarios painted and the steps outlined for preparing and implementing plans are simple, straightforward and very practical.
sharpen the edge.......2006-08-06
A great, concise read . I thought this book really helped my tennis game and I'd recommend it in a heartbeat.
Wanna A Be A Pro Pool Player.......2006-01-17
I read the book the week before entering a pool tournament. This tournament I have played in for several years, and I never came close to cashing. After reading the book and trying what it suggested I finished 8th out of 98 players and cashing for over $300. What I'm proud of the most is not the 8th place finish or the cashing, it is the level I performed at during the tournament. It works it is just a matter of time to practice what the book shows you.
The Mental Edge.......2005-08-30
The book is technical and practical without being overly academic.
It has an easy reading style with numerous practical examples.
Easy to understand.......2005-07-12
Steps easy to use and understand.
After reading you will feel why you have failed yourself and
how to make a change but you must put an effort into it or
nothing will change unless you do something.
small book and easy to bring around which was what i was looking for, reading in the car while waiting for somebody
doing their errants.
but i have not compared it with other books yet as
i am still reading other books of the same type.
So i should change this review after i read other books
to let readers know which book have better advice.
enjoy.

Best book on Healing I have ever read!.......2007-02-02
I think my title says it all. I thank the Gods for Serge Kahili King. I have been a Healer for 30 years and have also read a lot of books. His is the finest I;ve ever read on the subject...why? Because his techniques really work. I shall be recommending this book to all who come to me for Healing in the future so that they can learn to help themselves.
great book!.......2006-11-03
Serge K. King is a really important master spreading Huna wisdom around the world.
Is a really good book, written in a way everyone can understand and use in their lives.
Instant Healing.......2006-11-03
A wonderful guide to simple but profound healing techiques taught with humor and wisdom. Very enjoyable to read and offers great tools for quick, effective healing techniques.
Saved My Life.......2004-09-28
I got several books, videos and audio tapes from Serge Kahili King but his "instant healing" , which I have labelled "it never happened" technique - saved my life several years ago, when half of my face became paralyzed and when doctors told me that I'll just have to accept it and that it may even get worse over time.
The paralysis was bad enough that I couldn't even speak coherently (I'd have to hold my lips with my hand in order to make an understandable sound), nor could I eat properly due to lack of sensation and because I couldn't move the muscles of my mouth. It was simply unacceptable to me to live like that, so I remembered "instant healing" technique.
I have adapted that "instant healing / it never happened" technique with NLP Time-Line technique and spend few days running the new pattern in my mind re-living my life from before the event until the present moment as if my face was always normal and it never became paralyzed.
It was not INSTANT healing - but it took ONLY FEW DAYS for my face to become COMPLETELY NORMAL and to FUNCTION PERFECTLY. My friend said that that he was utterly amazed as he watched the transformation on my face returning to normal - he said it was just like witnessing a miracle. Yeah, our minds are truly miraculous.
Simply a Great Book.......2004-04-01
A terrific book, well written in plain english.

Book Description
Grab a pencil. Relax. Then take off on a mind-boggling journey to the ultimate frontier of math, mind, and meaning as acclaimed author Clifford Pickover, Dorothy, and Dr. Oz explore some of the oddest and quirkiest highways and byways of the numerically obsessed. The thought-provoking mysteries, puzzles, and problems range from zebra numbers and circular primes to Legion's number--a number so big that it makes a trillion pale in comparison. The strange mazes, bizarre consequences, and dizzying arrays of logic problems entertain readers at all levels of mathematical sophistication. The tests devised by enigmatic Dr. Oz to assess human intelligence will tease the brain of even the most avid puzzle fan. They feature a host of mathematical topics: geometry and mazes, sequences, series, sets, arrangements, probability and misdirection, number theory, arithmetic, and even several problems dealing with the physical world. With numerous illustrations, this is an original, fun-filled, and unusual introduction to numbers and their role in creativity, computers, games, practical research, and absurd adventures that teeter on the edge of logic and insanity. Clifford A. Pickover is the author of over twenty highly acclaimed books on such topics as computers and creativity, art, mathematics, black holes, human behavior and intelligence, time travel, alien life, and science fiction. Among his books are Computers, Pattern, Chaos, and Beauty (St. Martin's Press, 1990), Wonders of Numbers (Oxford University Press, 2000), Dreaming the Future (Prometheus, 2001), The Zen of Magic Squares, Circles, and Stars (Princeton University Press, 2001), The Stars of Heaven (Oxford University Press, 2001), The Paradox of God and the Science of Omniscience (Palgrave, 2002). A Ph.D. graduate of Yale University, he is a prolific inventor with dozens of patents, the associate editor for several journals, the author of colorful puzzle calendars, and puzzle contributor to adult and children's magazines. Pickover's computer graphics have been featured on the cover of many popular magazines and on T.V. shows.

The Mathematics of Oz: Mental Gymnastics from Beyond the Edge.......2007-05-13
Awesome blend of stories mixing in some interesting puzzles. Being a Kansas girl, I was intrigued by the entertaining story line set in the "Sunflower state". My son graduated from the Unversity of Kansas and there is a fictional story of the campus in the book that builds toward a puzzle. I gave the book to my son on his 25th birthday and I had marked the KU story. He turned to it and was totally endeared to the book. Couldn't be a better present for anyone who loves Kansas or puzzles. Just great!!!
What is interesting and what solvable?.......2003-10-14
I prefer mathematical puzzles that have two features:
- they are interesting (i.e. they have that difficulty that make them worth trying to solve);
- they are solvable without developing a whole new theory and without writing program code.
In this book most problems that are interesting (very interesting and intriguing, I must admit) are not solvable in the foresaid sense, and most solvable ones are not interestin. Of course, a few are both. The picture sequences to be completed are very original, and sometimes difficult, examples of QI tests.
However, in spite of that slight flaw, I have really enjoyed reading it. It may depends on my appreciation of Oz novels and movie, and even if this book is not likely to mark the history of mathematical entertainment, it remains a worthy reading.
A true mathematical wonderland.......2003-08-28
This wonderful mathematical puzzle book has over 100 puzzles sure to delight readers -- from kids to adults. The problems include: mazes, sequences, probability, and more. Most puzzles are very clever and fun. I liked considering the yellow-brick road that crosses America. How many bricks would it take? I also liked the zebra numbers and circular primes. Legion's number is a number so big that it makes a a billion look puny.
Anyone who has pondered the vastness of our mathematical universe will love this book.
Math Puzzles from another Universe!.......2002-09-14
I found the puzzles and problems in this book to be original and varied, and with a wide range of difficulty levels. I enjoyed the fact that some puzzles might actually have more than one answer, which leaves room for healthy debate and for better understanding the way different people think. I think this book can be enjoyed by readers of different levels of mathematical sophistication. For example, a freshman in high school could skip the more difficult problems, like the one on Ramanujan Congruences, although this is one of the most interesting chapters. My favorite chapter is one that poses a statistics-like question, dealing with bones thrown into a pit. You have to figure out the ratio of the long piece to the short piece. Here's a sample of other chapters that I really enjoyed:
1. The Yellow-brick Road
2. An Experiment with Kansas
8. The Problem of the Bones
16. Omega Sphere
28. Legions' Number
29. The Problem of the Tombs
35. Prime-poor Equations
36. Number Satellite
43. Ramanujan Congruences and the Quest for Transcendence
49. The Jellyfish of Europa
99. A Connection Between Pi and e
103. The Scarecrow Formula
107. The Omega Crystal
108. Attack of the Undulating Undecamorphs
I've already spent hours reading and rereading the book, and showing it to friends, and I know I'll spend many hours more!

The Handbook of Humanistic Psychology presents a historic overview, theory, methodology, applications to practice and to broader settings, and an epilogue for the new millennium...
The Handbook of Humanistic Psychology is an academic text excellently suited for collegiate education and research...
The Handbook of Humanistic Psychology will be the inspiration and reference source for the next generation of humanists in all fields."
                                                                                                                                              - Lynn Seiser, Ph.D., THE THERAPIST
"This volume represents an essential milestone and defining moment for humanistic psychologyâ¦. [It] belongs on the shelf of everyone who identifies with the humanistic movement and can serve as an excellent resource for those who would like to offer their students more than the perfunctory three paragraphs designated to humanistic psychology found in most introductory psychology books"
-Donadrian Rice, CONTEMPORARY PSYCHOLOGY
"Psychologists already partial to humanistic perspectives will take great pleasure in reading this book, and those seeking to expand their understanding of psychological humanism will find themselves much informed, perhaps even inspired, by it."
- Irving B. Weiner, PSYCHOTHERAPY RESEARCH
"A cornucopia of valuable historical, theoretical, and practical information for the Humanistic Psychologist."
 Â
â Irvin Yalom, Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry, Stanford University
"The editors represent both the founding generation and contemporary leadership and the contributors they have enlisted include most of the active voices in the humanistic movement. I know of no better source for either insiders or outsiders to grasp what humanistic psychology is about, and what either insiders or outsiders should do about it." Â
â M. Brewster Smith, University of California at Santa Cruz
"As a humanist it offered me a breadth I had not known existed, as a researcher it offered me an excellent statement of in depth research procedures to get closer to human experience, as a practitioner it offered me inspiration. For all those who work with and explore human experience, you can not afford to miss the voice of the third force so excellently conveyed in this comprehensive coverage of its unique view of human possibility and how to harness it." Â
â Leslie S. Greenberg, York University
Irvin Yalom, M. Brewster Smith, Leslie S. Greenberg,
Inspired by James F. T. Bugentalâs classic, Challenges of Humanistic Psychology (1967),
The Handbook of Humanistic Psychology represents the latest scholarship in the resurgent field of humanistic psychology and psychotherapy. Set against trends toward psychological standardization and medicalization, the
handbook provides a rich tapestry of reflection by the leading person-centered scholars of our time. Their range in topics is far-reachingâfrom the historical, theoretical, and methodological, to the spiritual, psychotherapeutic, and multicultural. Psychology is poised for a renaissance, and this handbook plays a critical role in that transformation. As increasing numbers of students and professionals rebel against mechanizing trends, they are looking for the fuller, deeper, and more personal psychological orientation that this handbook promotes.

Never before in the history of the National Book Award has an author been nominated two years in a row. Han Nolan was nominated in 1996 for Send Me Down a Miracle, and in 1997 Dancing on the Edge--a transcendent novel about a young woman trying to find the truth amidst the lies told by her family--won the National Book Award for young people's literature. Miracle was saved at birth from the belly of a dying woman--that sort of entry into the world is hard to live up to. Miracle has been struggling her whole life to become a prodigy like her writer father or to become gifted in the psychic arts like her grandmother. But when her father goes missing and her grandmother claims that he melted away, Miracle devotes all of her energies to bringing him back. Her efforts to reclaim her father are so sincere that she tries to melt herself in the fire made from a circle of candles. Never sparing humor, Han Nolan lets us meet this amazing young woman who wants so much to believe.
Book Description
Miracle McCloy comes from an unusual family: Her father, Dane is a prodigy who published his first book at age thirteen; her grandmother, Gigi, is clairvoyant; and her mother was dead when her "miracle" daughter was pulled from her womb. Having been raised according to a set of mystical rules and beliefs, Miracle is unable to cope in the real world. Lost in a desperate dance among lit candles, she sets herself afire and comes to in a hospital. There, a young psychiatrist helps her navigate her painful struggle to take charge of her life.
Includes a reader's guide and an interview with the author.

An extraordinary story of survival and mental illness.......2007-05-13
Kids ages 12 an older will find an extraordinary story of survival and mental illness in DANCING ON THE EDGE, which features the life of one Miracle, who finds dancing is the only thing which lends meaning to an isolated life with her grandparents. When her grandmother forbids her to dance, Miracle's desperate act confines her to a mental hospital in this story of a troubled young woman's search for meaning.
I love this book!.......2007-05-07
I'm in seventh grade, and had to choose any book for a book report. I am a dancer, mainly ballet, so when I saw this book at the bookstore, it caught my eye. I only have 24 pages to go, and so far, I'm LOVING the book! Right after I finish writing this, I'm going to finish the book! I recommend this book to everyone, because it isn't really about ballet, or even dancing very much. I give this book FIVE STARS!
Well worth the read.......2007-04-12
Award-winning author Han Nolan again captures our full attention in Dancing on the Edge.
Not many people can claim to have been born after their mother was killed in a car accident, and not many people can claim that their father was a child novelist prodigy at age 13--but Miracle McCloy can.
But when Miracle's father, Dane "melts away," as Grandmother Gigi puts it, and the neighbors begin making trouble for the small family due to Gigi's involvement in the occult, Gigi and Miracle leave town and move in with Gigi's ex husband, Granddaddy Opal. For the first time in Miracle's life, thanks to Granddaddy Opal, she gets a chance to be a child and pursue her own interest, dancing.
Yet all of the problems with the adults in her life and her inability to face reality cause Miracle to follow in Gigi's footsteps in the occult, leading her to practice on her classmates. But when a student accuses Miracle of being fake, she sets herself on fire and ends up as a patient in a mental hospital. Inevitably Miracle learns through her psychiatrist, Dr. DeAngelis, the coping methods to change her life and stop living in the past.
Dancing on the Edge is a powerful novel filled with a bevy of unique characters and difficult topics that challenge the reader to stick with this book. While I enjoyed Miracle, Granddaddy Opal and Gigi, I also felt that much of the true intent of the story was lost on the quirkiness of the characters. There never seemed to be a person of reason in Miracle's life until Dr DeAngelis and by then, Miracle has spent most of her life, and a better part of this book, in the shadow of her parent's past and her eccentric family members lifestyles.
All that set aside, Dancing on the Edge is worth the read. You can't beat Ms. Nolan's writing ability in facing issues such as mental illness, suicide and the occult.
Armchair Interviews says: Lots of life's challenges all in one book.
Thoughtful and elegant.......2007-02-14
Every teenager should read this book, adults should not be fooled or harbor denial that teens don't know about these things... and this story will give them a hopeful perspective. For those of you concerned with issues involved, this book is a breath of fresh air compared to the unresolved atrocities of war and human suffering kids are routinely exposed to on the news - which of course usually offers no constructive resolution or hope. This book teaches that we are not alone, asking for help is OK and that hope does exist and can be found from within.
Dancing Off Your Seat.......2006-06-09
This book review is about the book Dancing on the Edge. It was a great young adult novel by Han Nolan. I liked this book a lot. The reasons are it had great writing and the author's descriptive writing is very good.
The describing of everything was very good. It was very intense but good intense. The main character was very depressed and I liked how the author described how sad she got and what she did. She also described how she fought and screamed and had to go to a mental facility. Another example of how the author described was when the author described when she dances. The author described the girl dancing by when she hits herself against the wall and goes crazy but the girl loves to dance. The author uses a lot of adjectives and I think that is amazing.
The other reason why I like this book is how good the writing is. The author uses good vocabulary and makes sense. Some books that I read do not make sense and are confusing. This book made sense and if I got confused I would read it more carefully and I would get it. In the writing, I also liked how the author told how the girl felt. It was so cool how she really made her feeling seem real. Han Nolan is an amazing author.
Dancing on the Edge was a great book and I think many people should read it. I loved the author's descriptiveness and her writing. Dancing on the Edge will make you dance.

Great Overview of the Future of Medicine.......2003-12-29
What an eye-opener this book is! As the United States begins the 21st century saddled with health care costs approaching $2 trillion/year, it's obvious our medical system is on the verge of total failure. But just when things seem hopeless, Trivieri provides us with overviews of 12 leading visionary healers and researchers whose work holds the promise of ushering in a new era of energy-based medicine that will be a quantum leap beyond anything our current system has to offer. What is most heartening to me is the fact that the technologies this book explores are already available and many of them empower the individual to gain control of his/her health from an effective self-care perspective. To prove this point, Trivieri includes practical self-care methods developed by each of the people he profiles, making this fascinating book much more than just a series of compelling interviews. I highly recommend it!

Roxanne Mastrantonio, Marion County, Florida.......2006-07-16
In reading this simple yet complex story of this couple, it was very easy to finish the book and come away with wanting to know more. It was sad, but yet funny. Her friend and partner, Sonny sure had a rude awakening in his life, yet was able to keep his humor, and not see this through angry eyes. I mean, making arrangements for burying him before he even died was truly humerous. Maybe he didn't think so. But this was only in her EXTREME concern of taking care of him. I am sure that there are many things we don't know in this life of Linda and Sonny, and the many others who suffer this terrible disease. I also truly believe that we all may have some of bipolar in us. The other misfortunates' have the extreme as Linda has. I had a very good friend once that I alway knew had this more serious than most and just all of a sudden I never heard from her again. Even through the help of her mother, our friendship just ended. As Sonny says they don't mean to do the things that they do, and do not mean to hurt anyone. It is just one of those strange diseases that takes over your life. I believe if it wasn't for Sonny caring and loving Linda the way he did, Linda would be in a Mental Institution, medicated and sedated living on a different type of edge. I commend Sonny and his dedication and love to Linda, and to Linda for seeing what Sonny has went through for her and trying to make right by taking medication and staying away from that most delicate edge. THAT MAKES THEM BOTH HEROS IN MY BOOK!
Great Book.......2006-07-14
I loved this book - it was well written and I enjoyed both Linda and Sonny's perspective. This is an excellent depiction of the course of the illness and how it affects the lives of those around them.I highly recommend this book, not only for those with Bipolar Disorder, but also as an educational tool to help families recognize the disorder early so more people will seek treatment.
Compelling.......2006-07-11
Once I started reading this book, it was hard to put down. Although it is quite easy to read, it offers a deep insights into the world of individuals coping with bipolar disorder. I especially liked the hope it offers for getting to a point of effectively managing the disease.
Painfully Truthful, A Real Eye Opener.......2006-06-17
If you or any one you know belives that they are dealing with bi-polor disorder in their home, then this is a must read book. Answered alot of the questions no one else could answer. This man must be a saint to be able to deal with what I read.
An eye opening read...........2006-06-17
A must read for anyone who knows or lives with somebody who is bi-polar. A great account of events that shows just how debilitating this illness can be. My hat goes off to Sonny Kramer....There should be more heros in the world like him. Thanks for sharing your extraordinary story.

The Holy Grail of Mental Martial Arts Training ... for me at least.......2007-04-15
After finishing this fantastic book I wrote Loren Christensen to thank him for writing this. I can't believe I waited so long to get this book. But, who knows if I would have been in the right state of mind years back to really understand and use what I learned.
In my e-mail to Mr. Christensen I told him that this was really one of the most therapeutic books I've ever read. As I read the chapter about fear my past issues about fighting came to the surface. Things became clear. And so help me I felt taller after. I felt like a weight was lifted. The questions he recommends you ask yourself really helped.
I read this book w/ a totally open mind ready to apply everything I could. Amazon kept me waiting for over a month so I throw my self into this book out of excitement to finally have it.
There was a book I read before this one called "What makes tough guys tough". I thought it would answer my questions about being tough and fear. Really it didn't. In fact it left me wanting or should I say needing more. The book {Tough guys book} left you feeling like there maybe no way of getting the aggression you may need in a fight if you didn't have it at Birth. BUT! This book actually has a exercise to release that inner fury. Thank you Mr. Christensen.
This is going to be one of my all time top 10. Don't let the size of the book throw you. In truth I think authors that can write amazing work in under 200 pages and a rare breed -- and some of the best.

If you want to be a martial artist for life, then I highly recommend this book. Here is one quote --among many-- from this book that made an impact on me.
"You are only given so much time on Earth and if you have chosen to make the martial arts part of your life, and you are working toward a specific goal, then allotting time to train is part of the deal. But if you replace that time with, say, TV watching, or going to a party, you have weakened your discipline and cheated your goal, your art, and yourself." P. 89
Easy to understand and apply.......2001-03-22
This book was easy to understand. I found it helpful for any level of Karate. It's a must have in your collection.
nice effort.......2000-04-30
I can only say that the effort was obvious but the information was hard to use.The research was solid but lacked common usage for slugs like me.
Powerful.......2000-02-03
This incredible little book contains the mental techniques that the author, a renown martial arts instructor, has found to be extremely effective in his teaching, writing, personal training, and in real-life application during his 29 years in law enforcement. "I have used these techniques for many years now," he says, "and I'm still impressed and sometimes amazed at how well they work."
Christensen takes you through the process of developing your own mental edge detailing techniques of relaxation, self-hypnosis, and mental imagery to help you develop discipline, defeat fear, and bring out the very best that you are capable of.
The techniques in this book are easy to learn, easy to use, and when coupled with mental preparedness (also taught in the book), you will be equipped with skills to face most anything that happens out in the mean streets. Whether it's an opponent in karate or judo competition, or a self defense situation against an attack on the street when you least expect it, this book will help you be ready.
While THE MENTAL EDGE was written from the perspective of a martial artist for martial artists, it's applications can be used by anyone seeking to develop a powerful mental edge.
