A good book to have........2007-08-15

If you are a beginer or an experienced golfer, this is a good book to have. It has the right fundimentals to get on track with a good solid golf game. If you want to improve your game, or just beginning, I definetley recamend this book.

The 'Go To' guide for golfers.......2007-08-09

I first discovered this book in the early `90's, when I was just beginning in the game of golf. Applying the learnings from this book allowed me to cut 10 strokes off my game within 3 weeks. At that time, I had a handicap of about 30 - which quickly dropped to 20. Now, many years later, my handicap is 6.

I still use this guide on a regular basis. When my game encounters problems, I pull out the book to diagnose and solve them.

Over the years I have given copies of this book to more than 30 of my clients and friends - all who share my love of the game. Everyone who has received it shares my opinion of the usefulness of this book and says it has significantly helped their game.

There is no question that John Jacobs knows the golf swing and knows how to improve all aspects of your game. The book is written in an easy-to-understand fashion with excellent illustrations.

Great for beginners..........2007-04-10

I never really understood the real purpose of the "golf swing." Well my questions were finally answerd after the first twenty pages of this book. It explains the Geomitry of the game, and brakes it down into basics, "that are so easy a caveman could do it"!!

If you really want to understand and get good at golf, this is the book for you.

Best how-to-do-it golf book ever.......2006-10-12

I have owned a copy of this book since the early 70's and, despite buying many other golf books, this remains the best of them. Save yourself some money - leave the over-technical golf fads alone and get this instead. It's all you will ever need to improve.

Keeps it Simple.......2006-07-14

I played a round recently with a fellow who joined our group as a single. He was obviously a natural athlete, and later we found he played quarterback in the CFL. He hit the ball with authority, and a long way as well. He mentioned this book as being useful to him. Being always ready for a new approach to the game (I'm a 20 handicapper), I order this book from Amazon.

Now I am recommending this book to beginners that I meet. I won't let my friends see it, because I don't want them getting any better. I have to pay them money after most rounds already.

Jacobs keeps it simple, and it really makes sense. He doesn't contradict anything I've learned or read before.

I've been waiting a long time to understand the swing well enough so I can put effort into playing and practicing, and feel like the effort is being applied in the right place.

I'll make it simple, as well.

Buy this book. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I'm not a good enough golfer to make that meaningful.

Very straightforward and comensensical. Seems everything we read these days is about positive thinking. And it does work along with a good basic set up. I especially like his instruction that once you are over the ball, don't wait there and let negative thoughts sneak in. Go ahead and hit the ball. He says to trust your first instinct when you read a putt and I have always found that to be true. Can't wait to put his recommendations into play.

A dose of confidence can be the cure.......2006-02-24

So much of golf and golf instruction is mechanical, and justly so. Technique is very important in a complex action such as the full swing, and improper form can lead to both bad shots and injury.

In contrast, we have putting. The action on the ball is so slight and simple, mechanics themselves are important only at a very rudimentary level. Technique has more to do with guaging individual variances for a particular situation than it does moving from positions A to B to C.

This is why putting is called the "game within a game". It resembles so little of the rest of golf. It also makes it one of the most difficult for the mechanics oriented golfer to master.

What Rotella has done here is to lay out his observations of what the best putters in the game think and do, not with their stroke, but with their minds. Using examples of unusual putters like Locke, he points out that it is not the stroke itself that counts, but your confidence in it. Locke believed he was hooking the ball into the hole, when this was likely not the case. Still, his stroke, which cut across the ball, made him one of the best putters ever because he believed in it.

Rotella goes further, discussing people with more "technically sound" strokes, such as Faxon and Crenshaw. Crenshaw, in particular, is an interesting case. Rotella introduces a story in which Crenshaw, in one sentence, completely turns putting instruction on its head, much to the horror of a professional golf instructor. Again, what is important is what was in his mind, not what a slow-motion camera might reveal.

People frustrated with their putting may find good, solid information here on how to improve. The biggest test will be trying to apply it, which may be harder than any swing change you could imagine.

This book would be great for a 9th or 10th grader and their parents thinking about getting serious about the game. I liked the fact that there is alot of contact information for the different tours, angencies, teachers, etc. Having all of that information in one place is really helpful. The book never talked about something very important to me and to most golf lovers who were not born into privelage: How can you make it in this sport if you are 29 yrs old without money, but a ton of raw talent and passion for the game? I'm not sure there's much hope, honestly. The book talks matter of factly like this is like any other profession you might choose. Again, great for a promising high schooler with some financial backing, not good for a husband and father pushing 30 and running his own fledgling business.

I am a player, not exactly a booknut, but I really liked this book. Lots of good info., some really interesting "insider" kind of stories. I think a lot of golfers would find this to be a good read and golf coaches ought to put this book in the hands of all their young players. Real practical stuff.

This book is incredible! It is an amazing strategy for success and has really improved the way I look at the game as a whole. You can spend your whole life hanging around clubhouses and never gather this kind of valuable information. I highly recommend it to anyone who is even considering a career in professional golf.

It Works!.......2005-11-29

I listened to the CD 3 times. I felt confident and "In the Zone" as soon as the round began. I hit 9 Fairways which is a major improvement. My putting was excellent. I usually have "a lot" of negative thoughts during a round of golf but, this day I was very calm. Golf is mostly physchological. Listening to this CD is a great way relax and get better at golf at the same time.

Great book for the Beginning Greenskeeper.......2005-02-26

A couple of years ago, I purchased a small golf course in California. I knew nothing about how to keep a golf course in good shape much less improve it. When my superintendent quit, I was up the proverbial creek. I turned to this book for help. It is a great book for those who have had minimal or no exposure to how to keep up the various parts (green, tee boxes, fairways, rough, bunkers, etc.) of a golf course. While I probably won't act as superintendent for very long, I feel armed now with basic greenkeeping knowledge, and it is recommended (and soon to be required) reading for all of my course and clubhouse workers.

While perhaps limited to the basics, Witteveen's text is well organized and comprehensive enough to assure that I'll achieve my professional goal of being promoted from Assistant Greenskeeper to Head Greenskeeper within 6 years. In fact, in my opinion, it's on par with Chuck Shick's seminal treatise on the subject. One nitpicky point is that the treatment of cinch bugs, manganese, nitrogen and gophers (and other varmint menaces to the golfing industry) is far too brief. Also, more advanced topics such as the theory and practice of inventing your own type of grass would be welcome. Overall, though, it is top notch!

No Magic Here.......2000-08-05

This book is best suited for the first-time greenskeeper or a greens committee member. It contains basic processes such as top-dressing and stays away from specifics like optimal mower height settings for greens. In addition, this book stays away from prescribing remidies for such things as excessive thatch buildup or constant fungus problems. If all you want are the very basics in management practices then buy this book. If you are searching for innovative and detailed turf management applications then you will need to supplement this book with other references.

Your Instruction Made a Difference.......1998-07-24

Thanks for the great audio tapes. I had been searching long and hard for anyway to improve my mental game. I figured that was the biggest part of my game that could improve. I play at most twice a month so my play has been quite erratic. After listening to your tapes, I have improved my consistency and also shot the lowest scores in four or five years. Last weekend I had three birdies on the back nine and rolled in six long putts. I could not miss. I was truly "in the zone." The only glaring error of the round occurred after a playing partner reminded me I was one over par. My mind went everywhere but hitting that next shot. I ended up in the deep rough and got a triple bogey. The following hole I collected myself and rolled inthe birdie. Thanks again. Your instruction made a great difference in my game.

Golf in the Zone can help succeed at any sport........1998-03-27

I recently purchased the Golf in the Zone tape. I do not play golf, but am a pool player. I found that your tape was wonderfully effective in cleaning up all the demons that I carry in my head that affect my level of play. I am a "scratch golfer" in the pool world, and I have found my game has increased by about 10-20% with my new found mental skills. And, perhaps the most exciting part is that I believe I have just begun to scratch the surface. Everyday when I wake up, I do a mental tune up. I use the same tools that you did, and during the day, I continually try to visualize my ideal game. So far this mental training seems to work. Thank you for a great product, and if you have any other suggestions please let me know.
