THIS book is pragmatical, not philosophical; a practical manual, not a treatise upon theories. It is intended for the men and women whose most pressing need is for money; who wish to get rich first, and philosophize afterward. It is for those who have, so far, found neither the time, the means, nor the opportunity to go deeply into the study of metaphysics, but who want results and who are willing to take the conclusions of science as a basis for action, without going into all the processes by which those conclusions were reached. It is expected that the reader will take the fundamental statements upon faith, just as he would take statements concerning a law of electrical action if they were promulgated by a Marconi or an Edison; and, taking the statements upon faith, that he will prove their truth by acting upon them without fear or hesitation. Every man or woman who does this will certainly get rich; for the science herein applied is an exact science, and failure is impossible. For the benefit, however, of those who wish to investigate philosophical theories and so secure a logical basis for faith, I will here cite certain authorities. The monistic theory of the universe the theory that One is All, and that All is One; That one Substance manifests itself as the seeming many elements of the material world -is of Hindu origin, and has been gradually winning its way into the thought of the western world for two hundred years. It is the foundation of all the Oriental philosophies, and of those of Descartes, Spinoza, Leibnitz, Schopenhauer, Hegel, and Emerson. The reader who would dig to the philosophical foundations of this is advised to read Hegel and Emerson for himself. In writing this book I have sacrificed all other considerations to plainness and simplicity of style, so that all might understand. The plan of action laid down therein was deduced from the conclusions of philosophy; it has been thoroughly tested, and bears the supreme test of practical experiment; it works. If you wish to know how the conclusions were arrived at, read the writings of the authors mentioned above; and if you wish to reap the fruits of their philosophies in actual practice, read this book and do exactly as it tells you to do.

I have been involved in studying material of the general type contained in this book since the mid 1960's, and I've read a lot.Of them all this is absolutely the greatest book because it spells things out clearly and tells you exactly what to do to get t6he results you want in your life. I am recommending it to everyone and buying copies for loved ones. Buy the book and work with it. It could easily be the best purchase you ever make.

This trio of books - really more like long essays is a quick read. It is very interesting to see the beginnings of the current "Secret" craze in this early 1900's work. Some of the examples are antiquated due to the period during which it was written, but the basic tenets are very much in line with current abundance and prosperity works I have read. Editors notes help to explain some of the prevalent thinking at the time the books were written.

Obviously written about the turn of the century. If you can get past the outdated lingo and examples, the meat of the text is rich and rewarding. Women be warned, it was written in a time that we were not considered citizens. Again, if you can get past the lingo, the text is well worth the read.

I have long experienced aspects of this teaching without ever realizing it. When you finally get into the whys and hows of this idea, you too should see very clearly what I am suggesting.
I particularly like the references to Christ and his teachings. It may seem contrary at first, stick to it. Jesus told us we could do these things if we only had the slightest bit of faith.

I have been reading similar books (including the secret), but as the little red start sticker says on the book "Secret beyond the secret" is true.
I truly understood what Mr. Wattles talks about and this is the first time I really thought of it and said "AHA" thats how it works!

Great book if you are interested in the inspiration behind The Secret. To think that the author wrote the book in 1910 just goes to show that The Secret isn't really a Secret at all but rather a philosophy which has been part of human consciousness for a very long time. Sadly for Wallace D. Wattles he died very soon after writing the book, so I gather it didn't work for him!

Wattles died in 1911, yet he writes about space travel, electric cars, energy from wind and sun,and microwave technology. Hygenic health practices and organic farming are also mentioned. I want to know more about this guy! He writes with a good sense of humor and his ideas work. Now I know what I was doing wrong and the changes he suggests made the difference--my bank account is growing and I'm buying a vacation home!

This book is an allegory that teaches prosperity principles. Not only is it fun, easy reading, but it has a lot of powerful information in it. I am constantly re-reading it to pick up more gems from it! I also highly recommend reading her book "Hidden Treasures" along with it - "Hidden Treasures" explains the 7 universal laws of prosperity and how you can use these laws to your favor to prosper! My husband and I have bought several copies of each book so we can have loaner copies; everyone we have loaned them to have loved them, too!

My commitment this year was to work on removing those self-sabotaging habits and subconscious beliefs so I can become more awake. I truly believe that when you're ready to answers and change, the Universe drops in your hands the information, guidance and tools you will need. The Jack Rabbit Factor is in exact alignment with the awareness I've embraced this year. It is by far the best book I've read in a very very long time, if the best ever! This book totally drew me in and I didn't want to put in down. And everything is so true! Wattles understood what nearly all of the self-made wealthies understood in his time: You get what you focus on. He does a good job of laying out a frame for a wealth mindset although some of the language is a little strange until you get through the entire book. My knowledge of the writings of other authors helped me sort out what Wattles presents here. This is a good place to get a concise concept of the moving parts of a wealth mindset, but you may need to read elsewhere to flesh out the ideas more fully. Recommended!
Excellent Presentation of Prosperity Principles.......2007-03-04
I was given this book many years ago but I never read it. Then one day I noticed a book I had written turned up on The Science of Getting Rich site as recommended reading. I visited the site and I was intrigued with this Wattles fellow so I pulled his little book off my shelf.
I was perfectly astounded at the clarity and practicality of this man's presentation of prosperity principles. I don't think anyone has said it any better than Wallace Wattles. The language is a bit archaic, so I downloaded the book (there are many floating around out there) to update it for my own use. What a great experience this has been.
I fully believe that anyone who grasps and practices the simple principles outlined in this book can accomplish anything they put their heart into.
There are hundreds of how-to prosperity books out there, but this pristine presentation of principles has to be rated among the very best.

It's hard to believe that this book was written in 1910! We are all seeking happiness, illumination, security and truth. This book reveals some of the gifts of life for which we are searching. This book is the retitled, Science of Getting Rich, by the same author. Is this the secret? Some good principles along with some bones. Like a good filet of fish, partake of the good, spit out the bones. I don't ask the universe, I ask the God of the Universe.
This Book Is Good If You Want To Learn The Technique Of Visualization........2006-09-25
I must partly agree with A Reader's June 18, 2000 review. The issue that I too have with some of these books, including the movie, The Secret, is that they focus on material wealth. That which is materialistic is temporary and therefor can never be a permanent source of lasting happiness. Lasting peace comes from within and is eternal. When we die, we take nothing with us, not even our bodies. Alot of these types of teachings drive people further into attachment to things, people, and places, which causes continued suffering. Think about it, if there is something that you want and you let go of needing to have it, and you become detached from needing it and detached from the certain outcome of attaining it, you feel lighter inside. You feel at ease, less needy, less desperate, and less controling. Ahhhh (breathes deeply), that's the point.
However, human beings do live on this physical plane. And they do need to learn the basics of being the creators that they are. However, as good as I think this book is, I think it is misleading. All it teaches is the tool of visualization which is invaluable in itself, but it is not always the solidary road to financial success. This is no doubt a good read, but the subject does need to be taken further by those who genuinely seek the path. Read the book, utilize the tools, but beware of attachment. Attachment makes the world miserable.

This is a really great book and I highly recommend it, but be warned that this is the same book as The Science of Getting Rich. I bought this thinking that I was getting a different book by the author since I was so impressed with the Science of Getting Rich. I didn't mind at all getting a paperback version of this classic which I had previously read in ebook form, so I kept it. Highly recommended along with Napoleon Hills The Think and Grow Rich Action Pack.

This book is very informative, though a little bit dated. It made me realize what I was doing wrong in writing legal descriptions. It keeps in mind the surveyor's role along with the office person. The questions at the end of each chapter ensure understanding of the material. And it's actually quite readable, despite the dryness of the title! This book is a must for anyone taking their PS test.

Virtually every title insurance/abstract association and virtually ever manual and guide I could find refers to this book. Although the language is a little dated; it is clear and concise. Very useful for the experienced title professional and an accessible reference book for newcomers.

I really like this book. Even though it covers things lightly, it covers ALOT of topics!! The book flows well and the chapters make sense(the way they were placed). Again, it doesn't duel deeply in to the meaning of things, but it is great as a fast reference. The people I know that have the book, usually use it for writing legals, but it contains alot of other valuable info. Everything from a small view of surveying in the past, to water boundaries, to order of importance on monuments.

Can there be any truth to the concepts expressed in this book originaly published in the early 1900"s? I read it a while back and still find myself thinking about the alternative theories expressed in the book ... and recycled in a thousand and one personal motivation books since.

Don't be fooled, this book is difficult to read and comprehend. However, for those willing to tread the waters of early 1900s writing styles, the message in this book is wonderful and can potentially change your life.
If you are interested in the money aspect of the law of attraction, you may also want to read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill and "The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth" by Phillip Collinsworth.

Financial Success through creative thoght.......2006-05-26
The "Thinking Stuff" which Wallace Wattles declares, permeates the universe really caught my attention. The noted theologian, Emanuel Swedenborg refers to this "Thinking Stuff" as the Divine Wisdom in the book Divine Love and Wisdom, (published in Amsterdam in 1763).
I agree with the premise of Wattles book and as I reflect upon my life I can see where the Lord has indeed blessed me in ways I had desired.
Doesn't Work.......2005-09-16
Wattles' philosopy is New Thought, popular at the turn of the 19th century. It is really just wishful thinking or magical thinking. It doesn't work. Just because you think something doesn't make it come true, and you should be glad, because some people think very unpleasant things. You aren't Harry Potter, and magical thinking won't get you what you want in life. As for Monism or the theory that God is in everything, that would mean that God also exists in evil things, which would mean that God is not all good, so Monism cannot be true. This is just an early self-help book that seeks to empower people who feel powerless by telling them they can get anything they want if they just think about it hard enough and long enough. It's a waste of your time. Wattles wrote the same thing about health, and he died at about age 51. If he had lived to be 100 in good health and been a multimillionaire himself, he theories would be more credible. In fact, one of the people Wattles criticized as being "competitive", John D. Rockefeller, did live to be 98 and was a multmillionaire, so who are you going to believe?

The rumor is that when Bill Gates was just a student, he read this book and utilized its truths. Rest is history.

Surprisingly, this book has many spelling errors and grammatical errors within its pages. I am shocked that an editor/publisher did not catch these.
Other than that there are some areas of use.
Two Miracles For The Price of One.......2007-08-23
Anyone who has heard about The Secret is bound to ask, "how does this law of attraction really work?" While I truly enjoyed Rhonda's ability to re-market this ancient science for the post millenium audience, I can see why a lot of people are skeptical. If you really want to know the ontology or scientific methadology behind this law, you must get these two books. Rumor has it that the line in the movie " my daughter gave me these books...I had no idea they would change my life" (something to that effect)----the books she is refering to in the movie are these two books.
Whether you are a fan of the secret or a doubter---these two authors are worth reading.
