Product Description
“Methods in Yeast Genetics” is a course that has been offered annually at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory for the last thirty years. This is an updated edition of the course manual, which provides a set of teaching experiments, along with protocols and recipes for the standard techniques and reagents used in the study of yeast biology. Since the last edition of the manual was published (2000), revolutionary advances in genomics and proteomics technologies have had a significant impact on the field. This updated edition reflects these advances, and also includes new techniques involving vital staining, visualization of Green Fluorescent Protein, new drug resistance markers, high-copy suppression, Tandem Affinity Protein tag protein purification, gene disruption by double-fusion polymerase chain reaction, and many other recent developments.

Book Description
This volume begins with a historical context of the development of mycobacterial genetics, illuminating how crucial problems have been understood and overcome. The molecular genetics of the mycobacteria are then presented in four major sections. Descriptions of the tools for performing genetic analyses are integrated with discussions on the biology that they have been employed to discover.
Appendixes at the end of the volume provide a short compilation of methods commonly used in mycobacterial genetics, a list of currently available Internet websites of use to researchers in the field, and the complete map of the M. tuberculosis genome, which server as a reference to most of the chapters.
This volume provides valuable resource materials and detailed reviews of major topics and suggests special as well as fundamental guestions that need to be answered.

Book Description
Every cell has developed mechanisms to respond to changes in its environment and to adapt its growth and metabolism to unfavorable conditions. The unicellular eukaryote yeast has long proven as a particularly useful model system for the analysis of cellular stress responses, and the completion of the yeast genome sequence has only added to its power
This volume comprehensively reviews both the basic features of the yeast genral stress response and the specific adapations to different stress types (nutrient depletion, osmotic and heat shock as well as salt and oxidative stress). It includes the latest findings in the field and discusses the implications for the analysis of stress response mechanisms in higher eukaryotes as well.

Product Description
The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe is the favoured tool of many productive research groups throughout the world, serving as a useful model for fundamental principles and mechanisms, such as genome organization, differential gene regulation, cell-cycle control, signal transduction, or cellular morphogenesis. This book collates the current state of knowledge derived from molecular studies in this simple eukaryotic microorganism. The entire sequence of its genome has been completed, emphasizing the comparative value and model status of this yeast. The individual chapters, highlighting up-to-date views on prominent aspects of molecular organization, were written by active research scientists, presenting the results of their investigations to other workers in neighbouring fields. This book intends to serve the fission yeast community as a handy source of reference for years to come. It will also be of particular value to the ever-increasing number of researchers starting to look into fission yeast affairs for comparative reasons from other platforms of molecular genetics and cell biology.

Book Description
David Higgins and James Cregg compile for the first time an all-inclusive collection of key experimental procedures to manipulate Pichia pastoris for gene expression purposes. The methods-developed by world-class researchers in their own laboratories-contain detailed descriptions of available expression strains, as well as vectors and step-by-step instructions for the construction of expression strains and for their use in the production of foreign proteins from shake-flask or fermentor cultures. General procedures for the purification of foreign proteins are also provided, along with protocols for analyzing foreign protein products for glycosylation and subcellular location. Its detailed instructions will permit any researcher in molecular biology to quickly construct an expression strain that will produce a desired foreign protein, and to use this state-of-the-art molecular and cellular biological system successfully in every area of biological research today.

Book Description
Most genetics textbooks deal adequately with plant and animal genetics, but tend to neglect fungi except for two areas. Firstly, the ascus segregations which, in the 1960s, contributed so much to developing an understanding of the mechanism of recombination and secondly, the contribution that work on yeast (as a model eukaryote) is currently making to understanding cell cycle control and its genetic regulation. Consequently, most introductory genetics texts will leave the reader/student with the impression that fungi are of use when peculiarities of their structure or life style suit them to particular experimental approaches, but are not worth mentioning otherwise. The authors have produced a book that will compensate for this imbalance. This book discusses the genetics of fungi in a way that is attractive and challenging, succinct yet comprehensive, sensitive to commercial and applied aspects, yet also theoretical, dealing with their genetics from molecules to individuals to population. This short text will be an ideal supplement to the established basic textbooks in genetics or can be used as the sole text for an advanced course devoted to fungal genetics.

Book Description
The population genetics and speciation of fungi is a rapidly developing field, heavily dependent upon the use of molecular markers. No basic text exists which describes the methods employed or the findings obtained from such investigations. This book is intended to provide such an account. It describes the methodologies employed and, for the benefit of the non-mycological reader, a brief introduction to basic fungal biology. Recent findings relating to processes in fungal populations - mutation, migration, recombination, heterokaryosis, hybridization, polyploidy, and the operation of selective forces are combined with traditional fungal biology. Finally the taxonomic problems raised by fungal species are discussed, together with the processes of speciation.

Book Description
This volume goes into essential detail in assessing banking and finance regulations, supervision, and prudential and operating standards in the NAFTA countries in a global context. This volume reviews the laws, regulations, and operations of the banking and financial systems of the NAFTA countries. It addresses such issues as the fairness of national treatment accorded to foreign financial institutions, regulatory competition between agencies and system approaches, and the efficiency effects of financial conglomeration. There is an underlying concern with the control of systemic risk and moral hazards that arise in the financial sector, as well as in the payment and settlement system, and from deposit insurance. In view of the interplay of global standards and national politics, this volume gives an overview of global and European-Union (EU) approaches to sound finance (Parts I and II), before taking up regulatory competition and harmonization within and between the NAFTA partner countries (Parts III to V).
