What are the most important things in your life? Do they get as much care, emphasis, and time as you'd like to give them? Far from the traditional "be-more-efficient" time-management book with shortcut techniques, First Things First shows you how to look at your use of time totally differently. Using this book will help you create balance between your personal and professional responsibilities by putting first things first and acting on them. Covey teaches an organizing process that helps you categorize tasks so you focus on what is important, not merely what is urgent. First you divide tasks into these quadrants:
- Important and Urgent (crises, deadline-driven projects)
- Important, Not Urgent (preparation, prevention, planning, relationships)
- Urgent, Not Important (interruptions, many pressing matters)
- Not Urgent, Not Important (trivia, time wasters)
Most people spend most of their time in quadrants 1 and 3, while quadrant 2 is where quality happens. "Doing more things faster is no substitute for doing the right things," says Covey. He points you toward the real human needs--"to live, to love, to learn, to leave a legacy"--and how to balance your time to achieve a meaningful life, not just get things done. --Joan Price
Book Description
I'm getting more done in less time, but where are the rich relationships, the inner peace, the balance, the confidence that I'm doing what matters most and doing it well?
Does this nagging question haunt you, even when you feel you are being your most efficient? If so, First Things First can help you understand why so often our first things aren't first. Rather than offering you another clock, First Things First provides you with a compass, because where you're headed is more important than how fast you're going.

Excellent Life Management Book.......2007-06-22
I read the 7 habits of Highly Effective people a few years ago and was very inspired at that time to take more control of my life and try and implement the habits into my daily life. In particular, i really found the third habit on time management useful and could see the benefit. However, at that time i did not put the habits into effect in any real way.
Then recently, i discovered this book again which mainly deals with the third habit and some of the second habit and found that i was now ready to not only read about it but to actually start doing it by using the tools and techinques outlined to take control of my life and focus on the things that really mattered.
It may seem simple but starting with a vision of my life and then writing out my goals for incorporation into my monthly, weekly and daily planning has alreaady had a tremendous effect on my life and i find that i am scheduling important things in my life such as meditation and exercise and doing these which is giving me a more balanced work life balance. I also find it very effective for my job in which i am now scheduling important activites into my calender and doing them rather than just reacting to the urgent day to day requests at the expense of these more important long term activities.
A Lifetime Guide.......2007-02-05
I have bought this book for four years, read over it for many times.
If I can only take one book with me to another world, I will take this one. It is a good guide to how to live for a lifetime.
It begins with the foundamental principles, then gradually teachs you how to live a better life based on those principles. Every sentence is a sentence of truth. Everytime I have setback, I go back to this book; and everytime, I find that I have violated a principle.
Over four years, I become a different person.
What's important in your life?.......2007-01-23
What's important in your life? What do you really want to accomplish? What do you want to see completed at the end of the day, at the end of the week, at the end of the month, at the end of the year, and, ultimately, what do you want to have accomplished by the end of your life?
Getting things in line in your life, learning to set priorities, not just for money, purchases, and trivial things, but for more important things. How about family, relationships, and career?
great getting it together tool.......2007-01-18
I purchased this book as a Christmas gift for someone special who told me since reading the book he has been able to adapt a positive change in his busy and hetic life in a very positive way. He has been able to put in priority and balance the pressures, responsibilities, expetations of both his personal and business life,
Good Book.......2006-12-06
I bought this book because I needed some guidance to start putting things back in order in my life. Eventhough it focus on business and work, it provides some helpful hints to apply on you personal life.

Unhappy with your job? Before you vote with your feet, consider the advice of career specialists Beverly Kaye and Sharon Jordan-Evans and learn to love your job. In this practical sequel to their bestseller Love 'Em or Lose 'Em, the authors focus on employee satisfaction as a responsibility you must share with your employer. Although the format of Love It, Don't Leave It: 26 Ways to Get What You Want at Work is gimmicky--the suggestions follow the 26 letters of the alphabet--the advice is smart and specific.
Based on research with 15,000 people who have job longevity, Kaye and Jordan-Evans identified five top "stay factors" such as opportunity for growth and pay equity. Using these factors, they map several dozen CPR ("Career Path Resuscitation") including taming the boss from hell, finding multiple mentors, protecting family time, bringing fun to work, breaking out of your cubicle and solving your Rodney "no respect" Dangerfield problem.
One standout chapter enriches our understanding of the out of the box metaphor by comparing the properties of glass, concrete, and vapor boxes. Rich in examples and underlined with strategies, this book will attract a wide audience. Follow your heart careerists may question the very idea of lobbying against changing jobs. Still, when the authors urge each reader to become the author of his or her job satisfaction, the book becomes a valuable companion in an uncertain economy. --Barbara Mackoff
Book Description
Love It, Don't Leave It encourages employees to assume responsibility for the way their work lives work. This is not difficult, say authors Beverly Kaye and Sharon Jordan-Evans, who take a witty and practical approach to finding job satisfaction. Presented in an appealing, accessible A to Z format, the book includes strategies for communication, career growth, balancing work with family, and more. Chapters include "Ask: And You May Receive," "Jerk: Work with One?" "Passion: It's Not Just a Fruit," and "Zenith: Are We There Yet?" The same breezy, results-minded style that made the authors' Love 'Em or Lose 'Em a bestseller makes this follow-up a fun and inspiring read.
Customer Reviews:
Insightful!.......2005-08-25
Beverly Kaye and Sharon Jordan-Evans have written a useful book for employees who are tempted by greener pastures. The authors caution that those who pursue a glittering opportunity often wind up in a golden mess. Thus, it makes sense to at least try to improve your job before seeking another one that, ultimately, may be even worse. The book's format offers one item of advice for each letter of the alphabet. At times, the formula wears a bit thin (X for "X-ers and Other Generations"), but the advice itself is sound. It primarily consists of encouraging you to decide what you want and go get it. We recommend this book to currently employed malcontents (you know who you are!) and to those who need help mustering the nerve to discuss job satisfaction with their employers. Perhaps the best piece of advice is to only approach your supervisors for a favor when you understand their WIIFT: "What's In It For Them."
Think of this book as a compilation of your own notes .......2004-11-29
Think of this book as a compilation of your own notes to improve your own career. It is written exactly the way I'd organize my own thoughts and plans in a serious way to plan and grow my own career. Very practical and concise tips and easy to read. Takes few minutes to read each topic. The theme of 26 Topics for 26 alphabets is also nice. Finish it quickly and then use from time to time as a reminder to set priorities in your day to day life.
Left It, Didn't Love It.......2004-03-22
Given the rave reviews for this book, I was surprised by the lack of content and value. The book's message is a truism: only you are responsible for your own happiness. It goes on to encourage you to ask for what you want. These aren't bad assertions but they're more complicated to implement than this book would have you believe. The content is structured like an article in a woman's magazine: it uses a bulletized format with basic questions to ask yourself like "What do you enjoy" followed by inane suggestions like "Decorate your office". Cloying and without substance, this book fails to answer many core questions. What if your boss declines your request? What motivates an organization? How do you make lateral moves? Where are the examples of individuals who reengineered their work situation and how exactly they did it ? Granted, too many employees don't understand the work relationship or how to work an organization. But this is not the book that will address those issues. If you're still determined to read this book, my copy is up for sale on Amazon's used site.
Leaving or staying, read this book!.......2003-12-02
This eminently practical book reaches out to you in a real way. Clearly the authors understand the frustrations of employees and offer not one but several layers of approaches to help you get the most from your job. How to think about leaving or staying, what to ask, what to say, conversations to have, and checklists to get clear on your views all help you to make the best decisions. The authors pack so much practical assistance into one short book it is just amazing. This book is designed for fast easy reading. Don't miss out on this great treasure!!
Taking charge.......2003-11-19
What an excellent guidebook to show each employee how to take charge, have fun, be more productive, and enjoy time at work. Even the best managers and leaders can't provide all those results for their people. The employees have to do it themselves. Thanks, Bev and Sharon, for providing the guideposts along the way.

Best book on the time management........2007-06-10
This is the best book I have read on the time management.
It covers not only the principles, but also the guidelines you can follow to improve your productivity.
I like to think of "earlier" as on time.......2007-01-05
Ever watch all your co-workers leaving on time while you stay and work into the night? Today, so many office workers are burning the late-night oil, especially office managers. Laura suggests, rightfully so, that this can be completely eliminated by staying focused on completing tasks during the day. Her tips for managing tasks and time are to the point, practical, and, most importantly, easy to remember and easy to implement. Laura has provided numerous articles for OfficeOurs magazine, all of which have been very popular with our office manager and office worker readers. There is good reason she is in such demand as a speaker and we are looking forward to her keynote presentation at our annual office manager conference and her future articles and books.
great productivity book.......2006-07-12
I found this book so useful, and it has certainly influenced my productivity. She had a lot of great, practical advice, written in an easy to use form. I would reccommend this book to anyone who needs to become more productive at work, and even at home. She has practical advice for home as well as work. It was worth my time to read this book (and I consider my time very valuable).
Leave the Office Earlier.......2005-10-14
I recommend this book for anyone who has lost the big picture of their life and where work fits into it. I have been very dissatified with work as of late. I feel like I work hard, I am there for long hours, but have not been as productive as others. Working through the exercises in the book has helped me more then I could have imagined! You have to do the work sheets. It is not a book to just skim through. As a result my goals are more streamline and priorites adjusted and as a result I get out of work earlier. I was spending time doings tasks that I felt were important but in reality were not. I just bought two more for my partners. Note I beleive this is very helpful for women, in particular, who spread themselves too thin and do too much multi-tasking. Women see all the little things at work that need done, do not necessarily delegate, and do those little things that others may not even notice. All of which in the end only waste time. I believe it is good for those work-a-holics who think they need to stay. On your death bed you will not say to yourself I should have spent more time at the office. Thank You. Nicole Bunch
Does this book come in a pill form?.......2005-03-16
All right - I need help. There, I've said it and I'm glad. Stack has worked in a corporate venue and, more importantly, is an entrepreneur running her own business which is what appealed to me. I don't have a whole bunch of people sitting around waiting to make me productive. Especially if you work on your own, you're going to find this book useful. Mind you, some of it doesn't apply to me (how to manage kids, etc.) since I'm long past that phase. But virtually everything else is on target with how I limit my own productivity. Her advice is 'street smart' and crystal clear - all I have to do is follow it. No guarantees there!

The Fine Art of Small Talk.......2007-05-14
this is a great training and useful to all who are either fearful of speaking to other people in general or as debra described herself for people who just do not know how to move conversations along.
Not much there.......2007-04-18
A slim book with a lot of white space. Wish I had read the book over a cappuccino at a local bookstore rather than actually buying it.
This tape really helped.......2007-01-31
I'm sorry to see so many bad reviews, so I'm taking my first step into cyberspace reviews. I can't speak for the book, but the tape made a real difference in my life. I was painfully shy as a child and teenager and had no clue how to interact with groups until I started teaching myself by observing others at college. I'd gotten better by my mid-20s, but I still dreaded parties where I knew no one or other social gatherings. My attitude was, "I hate small talk, give me something 'real' to talk about."
When I was hired as an executive director of a nonprofit in my mid-30s, I realized I had to teach myself how to work a reception and represent my organization comfortably and competently. This tape gave me the tips I needed, like: Walking in taking responsibility for making others feel comfortable puts you in a better mindset. And seek out the other people who are standing alone -- they'll appreciate you saving them, as they are probably as uncomfortable as you. So - give this a chance.
Good, but not great.......2007-01-03
A little bit boring to read, 'cause it repeats itself a lot
Great Book.......2006-08-24
This books gives great tips and suggestions on how to start conversations. It even give you sample ice breakers. Good book to have and keep around to refresh your small talk skills.

It also contains many metaphores, useful for teaching, excercises, and transcripts of actual therapy work. It is well presented and potentially very useful, for personal change work. Foreward is by John Grinder, co-creator of the NLP field. Authors are quite accomplished in the field, producing a useful guidebook.

WYLLY Rview.......2000-03-16
Rick Whiteside and Frances Steinberg have written a wonderful guide to getting through some of the most difficult times people face. When Your Lover Leaves You is sensible and compassionate, and keeps you focused on the all-important realizations that not only is there life after a breakup, there are skillful ways of managing intense feelings. Delightful and highly useful........2000-03-03
A year out from seperation I was still of a mind that one of the most miserable things one human being does to another, is betrayal. This groovy little book took me back to emotions of shock and anger and gently walked me through to a place I now cherish, freedom to do and be the person I am.

Rick Bundschuh pries open many long-held assumptions and challenges our ideas of what it means to be the body of Christ in the 21st century.-
Customer Reviews:
Does the church as a whole just seem to be missing something, then read this book........2006-01-10
I found this book so refreshing from so much of what is out there. It really gets you thinking outside of the man-made religious box. It is full of a lot of good thoughts to get us out of our "religious rut" Yes, the church as a whole is in a rut! But it lacks in scripture references which is something I like to see in any Christian book. So as a theology book this is not a 5 star book, but to get you thinking, "do I love the church too much to leave it the way it is?" For that, this book serves its purpose and gets my vote as a 4 star book.
Astounding - Full of Life - Truly Refreshing.......2005-09-16
Oh to have grown up in a church like Bundschuh pastors! This is a quick and easy read, and honestly was a page-turner for me. The chapters are short and to the point. In each, he tells a story or gives an example where he basically took a case of dynamite and threw it into the heart of the religious system...of all the religious junk we humans tend to hold onto for our comfort and security...that usually distracts us from the very thing we profess to be "all about": Jesus Christ.
Buy the book...heck, by a few cases of the book and give it to everyone in your church body...discuss it...grapple with it...is he too extreme? Does what he did bother you? Good! Figure out why...and ask God to continually shake up the religious "stuff" you're holding onto by any means necessary.
This book is anything BUT a neat little guide for how to be a more effective, authentic church community. (The LAST thing we need is more of those!) But it's a great discussion starter...it really gets your wheels turning in an extremely healthy way.
just what i needed!.......2005-07-01
this book came to me at the perfect time. i am a part of a church plant in a beach resort area and mike's experience and ideas were extremely helpful. the chapter on "herding cats" was helpful in reshaping my outlook on the average american christian today.
i think mike achieved his goal in inspiring us to think outside the box and in getting our creative juices flowing. i recommend this book to anyone in ministry and anyone wishing to get a glimpse into the heart of ministers today who genuinely desire to bring the lost into fellowship with Jesus Chrsit and other believers. Maybe it will inspire some "bench-warmers" to get out of their seats and serve, as well!
Fun and imaginative.......2005-04-16
Bundschuh describes this as "a scrapbook of musings and mumblings" (p17-18). In fact, what it is is a VERY cute collection of column-like, diary-like, blog-like observations about life and the church. This is Bundschuh in his own voice, and it's an enjoyable read.
The energy of the book is excited and experimental. It's a bit Mike-Yaconelli-esque as he refers to the wild things that congregations can do for God, with a touch of Tony Campolo as he encourages us to "cook sacred cows"(p30) and describes his congregation throwing a Winter Ball for special education high school students. Bundschuh sounds like he's having a lot of fun in ministry, and it makes you want to do it too. He describes how the pastoral staff skipped church one Sunday and left a note on the front door encouraging the congregation to make the best of it, then followed up the next week with a sermon on the importance of everyone taking part in church. Sometimes the church wandered into chaos as it rotated the preaching around to different members of the church and gave keys to every room in the church out to every family. But risk-taking is what his church does.
The only weakness of the book (and it's a small one), is that Bundschuh is still coming of age in his word choice. And by that I mean, he refers to an idea from one of his congregation members as "very dumb" (p. 23) and calls some congregation members "nut cases" (p. 40). At his worst he admits "I'm a lousy counselor," and then goes on unnecessarily with this gem about long counseling appointments: "I figure that if you can't get it sorted out within the hour I'll give you a 39-cent bullet that can put you out of your misery" (p. 164). It's great that Bundschuh at several points has the humility to admit to what he doesn't do well, but humility is not a substitute for not saying stupid things like that. However, by and large he's cleaned up his act. Most of the book sounds warm and whimsical.
To locate Bundschuh philosophically: this is the non-denominational church's longing for tradition. Bundschuh joins this lineage in reflections that urge the overthrow of boring conformism and yet stretch for opportunities to expose his congregation to the history of great thinkers and great faith. It's as if he wants to say, "I think Christianity used to be passionate, we just have no forefathers to ask." In this sense he joins Dan Kimball (whom he mentions), Brian McLaren, and Leonard Sweet in their search for profundity without tradition. It's hard to call the old times cool when we've spent so much time as youth pastors combating them. We can't cherish a tradition we don't have. So we pick bits and pieces of history that have no authority other than that they sound deep to us.
That said, Bundschuh's book is a fun, witty read filled with creative and provocative examples of what a flexible church can do. I'd make the book a gift to congregation members.
Book Description
If you are trying to bring change to a church, read this book first. This book shows you how to keep a church from splitting over change.
Utilizing the latest management research, Staying Power is filled with examples of actual congregations that are remaining unified as they change.
Bob Whitesel explains in a humorous and effective manner, accompanied by easy to understand graphs, how churches progress down the route toward change, but usually become divided. The author demonstrates how changing two "key" factors will allow a church to unify those pushing for change and those who see it their duty to preserve tradition.

Excellent.......2001-12-24
It is hard to find good sources on Runes and Rune magic. Freya requires a bit of patience, as she likes to go off about those 'life hating Christians that destroyed our heritage', and is quite opinionated at times. However, her coverage of the subject is the best I have seen. A complete, modern coverage yet with a high emphasis on traditional methods. I was quite impressed, and enjoyed her work greatly. She doesn't just give you divinitory keys, she explains where they come from culturally so you can make those connections for yourself.

excellent introduction to the runes and Nordic mythology.......1997-04-14
When I began to study the runes, this is the book I started with, and I'm so glad I did. Aswynn's approach to the runes is a well balanced blend of experience, intuition, and impeccable scholarship. She does much more than give divinatory meanings of the runes: She also describes their uses in practical magick and as keys to the Mysteries. One of the most intriguing aspects of this book is Aswynn's discussion of the intimate relationship between the runes and Northern Germanic mythology. Refreshingly, Aswynn also pays a good deal of attention to female archetypes in the runes and the mythology, and she does this on a basis of sound research and reasoning. Further highlights are her analysis of the Nine Worlds of Nordic mythology and her original rune layouts for divination. Finally, I am pleased to report that this book is almost entirely free of the dreadful typographical and grammatical errors that fill so many of Llewellyn's other publications
