Book Description
It's slimy. It's smelly. Its green and it's gooey. It's seaweed soup -- and its Turtle's favorite lunch!
Turtle has made enough seaweed soup for everyone. But it looks awful and smells worse! Nobody wants to even taste it. How can they tell Turtle without hurting his feelings?
As Turtle serves lunch to his reluctant guests, young readers can learn about matching sets (also called one-to-one correspondence) by keeping track of all the different bowls, cups, spoons, and napkins on the table. Lighthearted art and a surprise ending make this a story readers will eat up.

Book Description
From the author of the well-received Good Luck Gold and Other Poems comes this new collection of perceptive, touching, often amusing poems.
With a sense of pride in her Korean, Chinese, and American background, Janet Wong's poetry reflects some of the differences between Chinese and Korean customs and culture and the American way of life. Divided into three sections -- Korean, Chinese, and American -- and with the author's own explanation as to how the poems developed from experiences in her own life, these poems speak directly and simply to young people of many ethnic backgrounds, providing insights into the different kinds of prejudice that many children confront today. Here is "Poetry":
"What you study in school?" my grandfather asks./ "Poetry," I say, climbing high to pick a large ripe lemon off the top limb./ "Po-tree," he says. "It got fruit?"

Insightful, elegantly written poetry on a diverse level.......1999-08-17
As a teacher of Korean descent, I am constantly looking for literature that exemplifies the various cultures seen in my classroom. Janet S. Wong does a wonderful job creating images of her childhood and expressing the 'balance' of several cultures that is often endured by children of diverse backgrounds. I discovered this book during a university course on poetry this summer and am looking forward to incorporate it in my poetry unit for the upcoming school year.

Book Description
This book gives a state-of-the-art overview of modeling growth and form of marine sessile organisms - such as stromatolites, algae, and metazoans including stony corals, hydrocorals, octocorals, and sponges -, using large-scale computing techniques, scientific visualization, methods for analyzing 2D and 3D forms, and particle-based modeling techniques. It originates from the workshop on Modeling Growth and Form of Marine Sessile Organisms, held at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis, Santa Barbara, California, August 1999. Experts from various disciplines including developmental biology, ecology, computer science, physics and mathematics, who have research interests in modeling the development of these organisms have been invited to contribute. The book describes all the steps required to develop and experimentally validate morphological models including collecting biological information and methods for specifying and comparing forms. Examples are given of how models are currently being applied to simulate growth and form of marine sessile organisms. Potential applications of growth models and morphological analyses in modern and paleo-bio-monitoring, the detection of environmental change, and the conservation and restoration of marine ecosystems and aquaculture are addressed. The combination of simulation models with laboratory and field experiments provides a powerful tool to obtain insights on how the growth forms of marine organisms emerge from physical, genetic and environmental influences.

Book Description
This book is an introduction to the amazing world of seaweeds. The instructions are simple to follow and sure to spur any child to discover and start collecting a new facet of the natural world. This is the only child's book that we know on the subject. It is charming.

4.5 stars...I only wish it were a longer book!.......2001-06-20
Nifty little book to pack along on beach hikes or swimming days. It works well as a field guide, but doesn't stop there, as it includes recipies and craft ideas. The illustrations make identification easy, and the author give us details about each species. Algae are beautiful, and look great framed. Collect your samples, and this book will tell you how to preserve them for an interesting addition to your art or nature collections. This book is too short!
Book Description
Find out about this vast and rich storehouse of living things through lively descriptions of ocean plants and animals. From plankton too small for the naked eye to see, to sharks as big as a school bus, kids discover how each marine wonder has adapted to the ocean's unique conditions. Detailed drawings and full-color photographs bring the ocean to the reader, while the accompanying text explores the mysteries of Earth's oceans and ocean life. Safe and simple experiments and activities that can be done at home or in the classroom give children hands-on experience with marine life.

Book Description
Seaweed tea is the beverage of choice at the Seaweed Café, where the regulars gather each night for song, dance, and storytelling. As the salty crew competes to see who can spin the liveliest yarn, tales of whales, sunken treasure, sea monster antics, and mermaid whimsy are told, whispered, and sung. Greta Guzek’s charming illustrations enhance this vividly imaginative tale for anyone who has ever played restaurant, made mud pies, or held an imaginary tea party. The book's lullaby-like rhythm, simple words, and cheerful pictures provide perfect entertainment for early readers.

A character-building story.......1999-10-06
It is wonderful that Sara gathers the ingredients for her seaweed soup and makes it all by herself. Her independent spirit makes her a valuable character for children to read about and to know in Famous Seaweed Soup. For parents and children looking for characters who find they can make such joy for themselves Malinda Martha and her Skipping Stones(also available on amazon.com) is a worthy addition. In learning to skip a pocketful of stones, Malinda Martha discovers the joy inside that she can make for herself. I want Sara and Malinda Martha both in my children's library.

Hidden San Diego provides a broad selection of lodging and dining options from funky surfer hotels on the beach and homey cafes to movie star-getaway resorts and gourmet sushi bars. The guide has 11 maps.
Customer Reviews:
not a bad little book.......2007-08-23
The book was a bit sparse in detail, but the map came in handy and the descriptions of restaurants was well laid out. Worth the purchase.
Hidden San Diego.......2007-07-19
I'm planning a trip to San Diego and I needed some ideas about what to actually do while I'm there. I already knew that I'd want to go to the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld. I also knew that I wanted to spend some time at the beach and find a good historical park or museum. Apart from that, I was completely lost.
Hidden San Diego came to my rescue. I immediately opened this book to the section of the city where I'll be staying. I quickly came to realize that I could easily spend my entire vacation without leaving that community. There were plenty of things to do and see. After I felt confident that I could find my way around in that little section, I quickly expanded my searches to areas further away.
Still, probably my favorite portion of this book was the sections on dining. It's hard to find a good place to eat in an unfamiliar city. Then, if you are lucky enough to serendipitously find a good restaurant, you tend to stick to that one place and have to endure one type of cuisine for the entire trip. The restaurant advice in Hidden San Diego is like having a good friend who knows all of the best places to eat. No matter what your budget, what kind of atmosphere you'd prefer, or what type of fare you are feeling like this book has enough choices that you never have to eat at the same place twice.

To Help Others Cope With Grief.......2006-05-09
I read this book some twenty years ago, and it still amazes me how God can turn such a heartwrenching loss, into a beautiful testimony of strength and coping. This story was written with the inspiration of The Holy Spirit, especially when you consider this was Joy Swift's first attempt at writing. Why would she write of such a tragic experience? Because we are strengthened by the testimony of others.
Brings back the memories........2006-03-29
I grew up in Camdenton and was 12 (same age as Greg) when this happened. Billie Dyer was an evil kid I could never stand to be near him and I hope he is still in prison!
none.......2005-08-03
I am shocked that she is making a profit off the crimes of her children. It isn't necessary to gather extra pity almost thirty years after the deaths of her five children.
Great Book.......2004-01-23
This book was the best book i have ever read....Its so scary that it could happen.. and so scary cause it happened just a few miles away from where i live.. great book
THANK YOU JOY.......2002-05-20
This book is the best. I have read it a few years ago and it gave me the courage to write my book.
