Hmmm...It isn't a horrible book but..........2007-09-18
I dunno, maybe I expected more. It is a nice book...if you're a complete dummy. I shouldn't complain when it's full of fluff mostly.
It only cost $11.50 on Amazon so I shouldn't really complain. But I feel I should warn you not to expect much. It's not a bad book really just kinda not too much information. I mean, do you really need to be reminded to take money and credit cards with you? I dunno-maybe it's just me.
Helpful for Families.......2007-04-30
Used this book before renting an RV out of our area (eg we flew to AZ, then rented RV), so we had to pack in advance. This book was the most helpful of the few I purchased. Packing Checklist and chapter on packing was invaluable. I would recommend this book to first time RV camping families!
Highly Recommended for New RVers!!.......2006-10-28
A terrific book for anyone thinking about giving RVing a try. "RV Vacations for Dummies" opens with about a hundred pages of information on planning an RV vacation and about actually living in an RV. Some of the information in the first two parts of the book ("Getting Started" and "Ironing Out the Details") is a bit sketchy; however, it is more than adequate to get the traveler on the road. And that, after all, is really the point. Books are helpful in gathering the information needed to get started, but RVing is about "doing" . . . not just reading about "doing".
Our favorite parts of "RV Vacations for Dummies" are the 14 driving tours presented over nearly 200 pages in the latter part of the book. There is nothing like having a trip actually planned to stir up a severe case of "hitch itch" in the most experienced of RVers. The trips set forth in "RV Vacations" are enough to get even RVing "Old Timers" off of the sofa and onto the road.
We highly recommend this book for those new to RVing; however, even those with hundreds of thousands of RVing miles behind them will find value in these pages.
Same book as Frommer's book........2005-05-26
FYI: This book and the
Frommer's Exploring America by RV (2nd Edition) are identical books.
A really, really good book for dummies like me!.......2002-10-15
I was initially struck by the early sections, which so clearly laid out all the elements of preparing for an RV vacation, including renting or buying, eating and sleeping on the road, and everything from cell phones to the pros and cons of carrying a gun. The remainder of the book has 14 trips around all parts of the US from New England to Florida, Route 66 to California, and the Northwest.
Very handy are details of attractions and campgrounds, which are laid out simply and enjoyable to read. Each trip has a detailed map showing the locations of campgrounds and things to don't want to miss. Anyone who's thinking about RVing will want to get this book.

Book Description
The Duke and Duchess of Beaufort survived the tumultuous and uncertain decades that followed the English civil war by creating a remarkable political partnership. Together, they worked to restore their family's estates and political power base as well as their home, Badminton House in Gloucestershire. They also sought to tame political and religious passions and to bring order and stability to Restoration society, a goal that was shared by many members of the landed classes. This fascinating book uses their story to illuminate the profound cultural changes that took place after 1660. It also brings to life Henry Somerset (1629-1715) and Mary Capel Somerset (1630- 1715), two complex and unique individuals.
Henry, third marquis of Worcester and first duke of Beaufort, was a powerful regional magnate and an active member of Charles II's Privy Council. The book recounts his activities in public life in England and Wales and shows the Duke rebuilding his war- ravaged estates, contesting with his local rivals, and corresponding tirelessly with his wife. Mary, meanwhile, distinguished herself in the newly emerging science of botany, growing and propagating an astonishing variety of exotic plants and finding personal salvation in the natural world. Offering both an intimate portrait of a seventeenth-century marriage and an unusual view of the early days of Enlightenment science and rationalism, this book will captivate a wide range of readers.

Book Description
"Hillary Clinton Nude: Naked Ambition, Hillary Clinton and America's Demise" is a blockbuster literary exploration of the most controversial politician in America. Stripping away the veils of imagery which mask the imperfections of Hillary Rodham Clinton, "Hillary Clinton Nude" presents a non-partisan yet passionate case against a second Clinton presidency. Author Sheldon Filger has written a bombshell of a political book, conveying a warning to the American people of the dire risks to the nation's continuity should the former First Lady succeed in fulfilling her ultimate political ambition. More than just another Hillary Clinton book, "Hillary Clinton Nude" is a sobering commentary on the state of American politics in the new century, and the influence of money, image making and celebrity power in the debasement of meaningful political discussion in the United States. Democrats, Republicans and independent voters will discover much to reflect on in this incisive and revealing book. The 2008 presidential elections may be among the most decisive in America's post-war history. Do not go to the polls without arming yourself with the knowledge found in Sheldon Filger's incisive book, "Hillary Clinton Nude."

SOBERING WARNINGS.......2007-06-15
Sad, but true : Hillary Rodham is a menacing presence on the American political landscape; and so books like this serve as important warnings to all Americans, and to all freedom loving people on earth. This book, presented as fact, is strikingly similar to a book of fact-based fiction in that both are clearly intended as "warning calls" (or "sobering warnings") about Hillary; but the other book, entitled THE EMPRESS PROJECT, goes farther in its analysis and shows how a foreign power (Red China) is meddling covertly and dangerously in domestic American politics and using a home grown American citizen as its political "proxy". Is the message of THE EMPRESS PROJECT true? Is the message of this book by Sheldon Filger really factually correct? Maybe readers should read both, reflect on both, and draw their own conclusions.......The Empress Project
IS HILLARY ELECTABLE?.......2007-04-20
One of the main reasons that George W. Bush was elected president was because of the country's guilt that they had elected Bill Clinton instead of Bush Sr. It was the country's way of recognizing that they made a tragic mistake by voting for Bill Clinton. The election of Bill Clinton's wife would be a travesty for the country because it is so shamefully obvious that Hillary used her position as First Lady to justify her husband's shameful behavior and ran for Senator of NY just to position herself to run for President. The Clintons have no shame. I hope that the American people will not fall for them a second time. We need a true leader that will serve the American people well.

Essential insights, but with some weaknesses.......2007-01-01
Like another reviewer, I was contacted by author Sheldon Filger and invited to read and review "Hillary Clinton Nude." This is a valuable addition to the shelf of books about HRC. While it has a number of significant weaknesses, this volume also has significant strengths. It's up to the individual reader to decide how best to balance the two.
Perhaps paradoxically, "Hillary Clinton Nude" is both passionate and dispassionate: passionate in the strength of the language, in the author's commitment to his principles and beliefs, and in his conviction that the election of President Hillary Rodham Clinton would be an unmitigated disaster for the United States. At the same time, though, Filger is dispassionate in that he -- unlike many other writers on HRC -- is not a member of the fabled "Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy." In fact, the vituperation Filger directs at Hillary is rivaled only by the scorn he directs at George W. Bush. "Hillary Clinton Nude" cannot, therefore, be dismissed as a GOP hit-piece or a brief on behalf of some other, competing, presidential candidate.
The author makes a persuasive case that lacking any demonstrable skills, training, opinions, or even basic understanding of the vital issues of economics and international relations, the only thing HRC can build a presidential campaign on is nostalgia for her husband's years in office. As Slick Willie's most attentive student, Hillary is mastering, Filger argues, the Clintonian Method of obfuscation, name-calling, smoke-and-mirrors, and (especially) a highly selective use of history, including but not limited to outright lies about facts, situations, and people.
Sheldon Filger is committed to setting the record straight, and so devotes considerable ink to laying out the facts about half-forgotten Clintonian scandals like the White House travel office firings, Hillary's commodities-futures windfall, Pardongate, and of course, Monica and impeachment. Of course, Filger thereby leaves himself open to the Clinton-defenders' time-tested charge that he is "obsessing over old news" while HRC herself is focused on the future. Given Filger's thesis of the importance of Clinton-nostalgia to HRC's own presidential hopes, however, I think he's done exactly the right thing.
As I said, however, this book also has a number of weaknesses. Some of them, I admit, are matters of taste. But there are substantive omissions as well.
For one thing, Filger's prose is, if not purple, certainly redolent of lavender: "Given the constellation of storm clouds gathering on the horizon of the new century, having a mediocre and politically ambitious megalomaniac figure making the key decisions of state is an alignment with catastrophe. It is also a rash gamble with history. If, indeed, the contemporary world resembles the apocalyptic dynamics that existed in the summer of 1914, then the admixture of nuclear armaments portents [sic] a cataclysm that will be vastly more devastating to humanity" (p. 179).
As another matter of taste, I wasn't thrilled by the cover illustration by Molly Crabapple. It makes it too easy for critics to dismiss the whole book as an unattractive hit piece while ignoring the substance within. Certainly, I'm not going to leave this just sitting around on my desk at work.
Among the substantive topics Filger doesn't address, one key one is Hillary's alleged "move to the center" in the Senate. It seems obvious that this is part of Clinton's decades-long effort to disguise her true radicalism, but it will also be a centerpiece of her presidential campaign. A discussion of this question would seem to be in order.
Most fundamentally, I did not come away from this book with a clear idea of whether Filger believes that, deep down in her soul, Hillary really *believes* in anything more than her own ambition. For the vital distinction, I've always believed, between Pudge and Ruffles (wish I could remember who coined those nicknames) is that whereas he is an opportunist with no firm beliefs, Hillary is a true ideological warrior.
Other writers, from Barbara Olsen to R.E. Tyrrell, have done great work tracing Hillary's growth as what Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn described as a "Christian Social Romantic." In this understanding, HRC's Methodist upbringing was filtered through the tactical genius of Saul Alinsky to create a person driven by a true spiritual fanaticism. I think this is the only real explanation for HRC's distinctive drive, her determination not just to confront, but ultimately to destroy, anyone who disagrees with her or opposes her utopian vision: she sees them, in a very real sense, as fundamentally, theologically, evil. I believe that this is the key to understanding Hillary Clinton. I'm not sure, though, whether Sheldon Filger agrees.
Finally, I need to point out that this book lacks footnotes, endnotes, bibliography, and index. Clearly a lot of research went into preparing this, but it is impossible for a reader to track the author's sources.
This is a quite long review because I appreciate the author's request for my opinion of his work. What Sheldon Filger has produced is a strong, well-argued, and unquestionably important book. With some work on what I consider the book's shortcomings, a second edition could easily warrant four or even five stars.
The One Indespensible Book on Hillary Rodham Clinton.......2006-12-01
Of all the many books on Hillary Clinton, pro and con, this is the one essential read on the aspiring presidential candidate for thinking people on both the Right and Left. Devastatingly critical of Hillary Clinton, but without an ideological axe to grind, Sheldon Filger skillfully presents a case against another Clinton presidential administration that defies partisanship. Thoroughly researched and convincingly written, the author goes beyond the usual critique of Hillary. He identifies the critical challenges that America will confront in the next decade, than proceeds with an ironclad case as to why Hillary Clinton is intellectually and experientially ill equipped to provide the quality of leadership America must have in its next president. Reading like a thriller, this book presents a chilling scenario for America's future should Hillary Clinton be elected as president. Every thinking person, irrespective of their party affiliation, will find Filger's book a sobering and thought-provoking overview of what is at stake in the 2008 election.
A Thoughtful Look at a Serious Subject .......2006-11-08
In the interests of full disclosure, I was sent a copy of this book by the author and asked to review it. I'm glad he did becauise I probably would never have found it on my own. Books on Mrs. Clinton are plentiful. Some are hit pieces. Some are laudatory. This one is dispassionate and sobering.
Mr. Filger is no Right Wing writer (and therefore not a member of the vast Right Wing Conspiracy which was born from Mrs. Clinton's mouth in defense of her husband's filanderings).
One only has to read his take on the decision to go to war in Iraq and the execution of that war to understand that. George W. Bush, Richard Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld are fully filigreed by Mr. Filger concerning their involvement in what he clearly considers was an egregous error... "America's invasion of Iraq in 2003 was anchored in neocon delusions. Born of the ambition of a reckless and ignorant man, under the influence of a narrow minded clique of bloodthirsty noncombatants and propelled by outright deception of the American people, the enterprise was doomed to failure." Is that plain enough for you?
Filger then goes on to show how Mrs. Clinton manuvered herself to be in support of the war for political reasons and how she has since that time somewhat inartfully tried to extract herself from that position.
Chapter and verse follow which trace Mrs. Clintons attitudes, deceptions, duplicity and ambition. It is sobering and it is delivered in such a way that one has no doubt as to it's veracity. Likewise sobering is his warning that if Mrs. Clinton's political ambitions triumph, the demise of America is assurred.
His final warning is chilling..."Should the American people in their rightousness render a decision in 2008 that reverses the pattern of the past twenty years, renewal and revival await a long-suffering nation. If however, the people fail to exercise their constitutional and civic duty at the ballot boxes with discretion and wisdom, thus allowing Hillary Rodham Clinton to triumph, only ruination and national demise can follow in her wake."
It will be worth your time to see how the author arrives at this conclusion. You may agree with it or not, however he will make you think about the matter seriously. As we all should.
Post Script: I would have preferred a different title and a different cover. This is a serious book which appears somewhat frivilous in it's appearance. Just my opinion.

Loud ring of truth.......2005-09-18
Dorie is the history of every woman in East Tennessee who's family comes from "the mountains". A "must read" for any person seeking a peek back in time to what lives were like for those before us and the roots of where we come from.
Step Back in Time . . ........2001-11-07
DORIE: WOMAN OF THE MOUNTAINS is an excellent example of new history-making, literature in which one person's story is representative of an era and its people. Dorie's narration of her life in the Great Smoky Mountains during the earliest years of the twentieth century evokes memories of our own old folks and their storytelling. Her account of the often hardscrabble existence she and her family endured in the mountains of East Tennessee is not a depressing one, but a testimony of the pioneer spirit that helped build this nation. Dorie's life straddled the fence between the old ways and the modern age, a time when many people still worked to produce everything their families needed even as other people discovered all the things that money could purchase at the local store or through the Sears or Montgomery Ward catalogues. Education was not always as easily obtained. Jobs became increasingly hard to find as the area was developed into a national park and with the onset of the Great Depression. Through Dorie's story, we get an inside glimpse of life in an isolated but beautiful mountain wilderness, and the ways in which modernity simultaneously improved financial situations and contributed to the destruction of a uniquely American way of life.
Dorie: Woman of the Mountains.......2000-06-13
Dorie:Woman of the Mountains is an excellent book. Very well written - you feel as if you are talking with Dorie herself as she chronicles her life in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. This book is so entertaining you want to read it in one sitting. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. It is a most enjoyable trip back in time.

Inspiring, uplifting, and recharging!.......2002-04-18
A friend loaned me this book and it was a Godsend. I have reread it, and refer to it over and over, and it always gives me a lift. It constantly reaffirms my valuable and special role as a mother and inspires me to do even better. I would recommend it to any mother (Christian or not) as a guide in this confusing world with so many conflicting views on the value and importance of the special role of mothers.
A wonderful study on the basis of a God-centered home........1998-10-26
This book is an encouragement to all mothers who regard their role as a mother as a "God-ordained" role in her family. The workbook encourages all tasks be done in a way that glorifies God and produces more soldiers for Christ's army!

Book Description
A gripping novel of love and war, risk and responsibility
Arcadia Hearne is a war researcher, specializing in military intervention. But her immersion in contemporary war is offset by her refusal to put herself at risk, and by her insistence on keeping her past at bay.
Ten years earlier, in the mid-1980s, Arcadia had fled Toronto for London after two university students--rivals for her love--fought a pistol duel over her. Now, through the interventions of her sister, Lux, and her increasingly complicated relationship with a new lover, Amir, who has secrets of his own, Arcadia is forced to confront what really happened on the day of the duel.
Moving from the verdant ravines of Toronto to the secret canals of a gritty, vibrant London, The Rules of Engagement has an extraordinary sense of time and place. A powerful exploration of the nature of love, the novel provocatively explores the crossing of emotional, ethical, and literal borders.
Customer Reviews:
godawful.......2003-10-02
its dullness is only surpassed by its pretentiousness. what a waste. i just finished eggers' "heartbreaking work of staggering genius" before reading ROE. it really drove home how lame this book was in comparison. maybe if i'd tried reading some other dreck it would have looked better.
reading the author's distinguished education on the back cover is also rather dismaying. all that larnin' and that's the best she can do? shudder.
A Personal Pleasure.......2003-04-22
The events of this book resonated personally, making the story quite a satisfying one to read. Like Arcadia, I have an interest in war studies (being one of the slightly maligned 'peace and conflict' students she mentions). I also fled to a new city (Toronto, ironically) to escape personal pain and with the intention of reinventing myself. I think the book becomes even more compelling as Catherine Bush gradually and often elegantly reveals how Arcadia's constant questions about war and internvention are really manifestations of past psychological pain, as well as means of understaning the meaning of events she yas yet to reconcile. The idea of facing up to one's demons isn't terribly original; however, if you prefer that these stories have an intellectual bent along with a dash of local colour, then this book is worth reading.
A Flawed Novel.......2001-07-17
This novel has several flaws (it made me want to grab a great big red pen and get to work). The "duel" scene wasn't worth dragging up to - it shouldn't have been in the last pages. The relationship with the father didn't further the plot in any way and tag-lined somewhere on the edge of the story (To make the book longer? What was the point of this? It added nothing to the main character). Several times in the novel the main character is off on her own doing some task that inevitably fails (finding Basra, finding Evan, etc) and after awhile I wished she would stop bringing us all along with her. The relationship with Amir is left hanging in the middle of the novel after we have spent the first have of the novel meeting him (Why, WHY, does she stay in Toronto??? Why did we meet Amir at all???). My worst pet peeve: Several times in the story Arcadia "bumps" into people in huge, bustling cities. The first time this happens, I can deal with it. The second time it happens, the author points it out; it's not believable, but I give her the benefit of the doubt. However, Catherine Bush does it a THIRD TIME later in the novel with Evan . . . c'mon now. It's no longer a coincidence. It's just contrived. I did enjoy the revelation in the end. . . if only it were better handled and I didn't have to suffer the whole book to get to it.
Reminiscent of Kundera.......2001-04-25
In "The Rules of Engagement", Catherine Bush creates a near
flawless meditation of the nature of war and the nature of
love. Arcadia Hearne, the main character, flees from Canada (and two
lovers), then emigrates to England, where she excels at hiding from
the past, allowing only her sister and parents sporadic contact.
Over
the course of this novel, Arcadia has to come to terms with acts of
agression in both her personal life (a duel is fought over her) and in
her professional life (Arcadia works for the Centre for War
Studies). She also comes in to contact with a group which facilitates
escapes for African refugees. As she aids in facilitating these
refugees' flight, Arcadia is compelled to face her demons, and return
to Canada for the first time since her departure a decade
previously.
Bush is a masterful writer, with insights and meditations
of both love and war which are reminiscent of Milan Kundera's
"The Unbearable Lightness of Being" and
"Immortality." While the correlation between war and love is
present, Bush is skillful in not abusing the power of the metaphor
through overuse or heavy-handedness. Overall, the writing is fresh and
intelligent. The story is utterly believable, and Arcadia Hearne is an
incredible character. Through Arcadia's quirks, and the idiosyncracies
of the people in her life, these people come to life in their own
unique way.
This is an incredibly intelligent novel, and a highly
enjoyable read. If you like Milan Kundera's early novels, you will
definitely enjoy "The Rules of Engagement."
This One Will Keep You Thinking.......2001-02-27
The Rules of Engagement is a fabulous novel. Catherine Bush has given us a terrific story that will make you think about the nature of love and war, of bravery, cowardice and risk. Arcadia Hearne is a Toronto native living in self-imposed exile in London. As the novel unfolds, we learn, little by little, about why seh left, and what she has done in London. She left because two of her lovers had a duel over her. The pain of the consequences of the duel was too overwhelming for her, so she fled, escaping to London. Her story, and how she finally addresses her past and deals with issues in the present, is fascinating and well-told. Bush tells the story, plaing concepts of love and war against one another. It's wonderful food for thought. There is a revelation towards the end of the novel--almost blink and you've missed it--that you won't get out of your head. I highly recommend this one. Enjoy.
