Customer Reviews:
Very handy book!.......2007-07-28
I recently purchased this book for a quick trip to Europe. We were staying in Brugge for only 2 days so we wanted to hit the highlights. I found it hard to find books for this area. The size is perfect to carry around and the color maps were great (including street index).
The book only covers the cities mentioned in the title.
Brussels gets 23 pgs, Bruges 15 pgs, Ghent 8 pgs, Antwerp 23 pgs.
There are many pages that cover all of the cities and the book has a "Top 10" theme throughout. "Top 10 Belgian Artists" "Top 10 Beers" "Top 10 Moments in Belgian History" etc. They also have Hotel recommendations and well as general travel tips.
There is a phrase list in the back for French and Dutch. For each city, DK tries to give you a one day itenerary in case you would like guidance. The pictures are also superb - that is one thing I love about DK Eyewitness books.
One thing I don't remember, but would be helpful is a list of "day trip" locations from each city. If you are going to Bruges/Brugge, I highly recommend going up to the Coast/NorthSea. It is just a 10-15 minute train ride to Blankenberge or Knokke and the cost is maybe 5 euro roundtrip on the rail.
Great Travel Buddy.......2006-03-21
This book provided great maps and directions during my recent trip to every city in the book. I visited 30 museums and countless other attractions. The book made navigating the cities much easier. I carried it everyday!

Frommer's Belgium Helper.......2007-06-12
Very well writen guide! This little book is packed with information and maps which proved very helpful on my recent trip to Brussels and Bruges.
An excellent general guide.......2007-06-03
This was a quite good guide to Brussels, with clear, reliable reference to major sights, and good, though limited, specifics, such as description of individual buildings and features at the Grand Place. It pointed me effectively to three beautiful churches (Notre Dame de Sablon, Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula, Eglise St Nicolas), but had little detail about them (nor did the churches supply the same). A specialized art/architecture guide would have been desirable for a more in-depth look at the artistic features and history of such a rich and old European center. But no specialized guide would have been as useful as this guide in advice re restaurants, shops (I was directed to a great chocolate store!) and other practicalities. To travel light, with a single guidebook, this is an excellent choice. (However, the maps are very basic; you will also need a detailed street map. An excellent free map was available at both hotels I stayed at.)

Mostly Brussels.......2007-06-18
We recently took a trip to Belgium, where we intended to visit Brugge, Antwerp, and Brussels, although in the end, we dropped Antwerp in favor of spending more time in Brugge. I bought a copy of this book on the advice that it had a lot of coverage beyond Brussels.
Like most EyeWitness guides, the photos, sketched 3D area maps, etc. were all brilliant for identifying points of interest and notable details. The suggested walking tours also proved to be a great resource, since these cities are best visited simply by wandering the streets rather than heading straight for key destinations.
My only qualm with the book is that (as the title suggests) it is heavy on Brussels. This was a little disappointing, having heard that it included adequate coverage of the other cities in its subtitle. Nearly 75% of the book is dedicated to the capital with the other cities receiving only around a half dozen pages each. If you're planning to spend a lot of time in Brugge, Antwerp, or Ghent, I'd recommend finding a book with more focused coverage. If you plan to spend a lot of time in Brussels, with daytrips to one or more of the other cities, this book would probably be great.
At last - A DK Guide that's not too heavy.......2007-01-12
Perfect for Belgium. Brussels, Bruge, Antwerp are all well done. The quality of the DK series makes them the pick of the class, but heavy. It's the only guilde that emmanates a feel for the area's architecture. I used the hotel section comparatively with other guides. It finished slightly ahead. What is unusual is a non-tourist perspective is part of the review mix. I am an intelligent successful high tech businessman and not particularly interested in clowns staying away from people that are. To me travel is not an entertainment video. It is a mix of pleasure, leisure, and learning while keeping in reasonable cost effective contact with the world that enabled me to make the trip. This is the one area that could use improvement. "Internet access" is a meaningless description. What's the cost, how fast, what mode, where, and how often is it available? For decades the hotel telephone has been the ultimate rip off tool. Now it's morphed into the cell phone realm. Despite what you have read international calling is still very expensive. When Best Western doesn't charge for the identical serice that Hyatt, Hilton,
Marriott, etc. do is it very clear whose happiness is primary despite what the brochure says. A lot more help on this would be most appreciated. Kudos to DK for giving local food a serious look. The inclusion of small, medium and high end places is a refreshing and useful change. For some reason no mention is made of the "ladies of the evening" displaying their virtues through sidewalk level bay windows along the street parallel to the Brussels airport-to-central station route about five minutes before it ends. After a long flight it provides a little spice that was missing in the airline food.
GREAT TRAVEL BOOK.......2006-03-21
This was an indispensable tool my navigation of Belgium. I also purchased the Top 10, published by DK just so I would not miss anything. I liked the large maps and the clear directions to the venues. The pictures were GREAT. This book greatly enhanced my journey.
The best travel book around!.......2006-02-25
DK guides are by far the best for any trip -- their black-by-block walking guides just can't be beat.
Very good resource for planning and en route.......2002-07-13
I have had great experiences with the DK Guides. I use it extensively in my trip planning and this is the guide I take on the trip.
This guide provides execllent information about local sites throughout Beligium. It gives very clear guidance concerning what you can find and access information. It also helps you to locate the sites with indexed maps and diagrams.
I have found that this and the other DK Guides are bit weak in providing guidance about what to see. That is, it offers little qualitative information--everything sounds equally wonderful. And we all know this is not necessarily the case.
So I always find another guide that has more opinions and recomended tours to determine what to see. I espiecially look for guided the provide suggested walking tours. This has worked out well for the most part. I use other guides to plan the trip and the DK Guide in the country.
It has very usable maps although sometimes too limited in scope and you may require a local map to get around beyond the central city. Also, because the book is a bit heavy and too large to fit in a jacket pocket after the first day or so I leave it in the hotel and rely on the local map when walking about.
The one topic I find most reliable is DK's restaurant recommendations. The two places I tried in Brussels were fantastic and offered everything that the guide described. I have had equal success with DK's restaurant recommendations in other cities/countries.
I think this is an indispensible travel guide as long as you know what you are using it for--planning or background info, etc.
Book Description
A high-speed hop from London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Cologne, the city at Europe's crossroads is as distinguished, diverse, and distinctive as any continental capital. Home to the Surrealists and the Breughels, Brussels is a living monument to art nouveau, and it enjoys a gastronomic reputation second to nonecomplemented by boundless bar crawls and style-conscious shopping sprees. Written by local journalists, writers, and experts, the Time Out Brussels guide offers an informed and detailed excursion around the city and its attractions, from the Gothic and Guildhouse past of the Grand Place to Brussels' present-day role as Europe's capital, taking in its beers and its boutiques, its markets and its mussels, and its comics and its chocolates along the way. Beyond Brussels, the guide also delves deep into the three main cities of Flanders: fashion-conscious Antwerp, medieval Ghent, and Bruges, Belgium's biggest tourist draw. Day trips dip each side of the French-Flemish divide, from the coast around Ostend to Liege, nestling on the Dutch and German borders.

An exhaustive and unique guide to Brussels.......1999-12-16
Time Out Brussels provided a very comprehensive yet unique view of Brussels. The guide had just the right mix of the usual and the eclectic. The restaurant reviews were top notch, and the book's Survival section was indispensible.
In short, this guide provides everything you'll need to have a first-rate experience in Brussels at any budget.
Good if you're just going to Brussels........1998-02-24
The Brussels information is great, but the info on Antwerp, Ghent & Bruges is pretty minimal & doesn't contain any addresses (just phone numbers), so you'll need another book if you plan to travel around Belgium.

Book Description
This classic multivariate statistics book has become the introduction of choice for researchers and students with a minimal mathematics background. In addition to providing a review of fundamental statistical methods, it provides a basic treatment of advanced computer-based multivariate analytical techniques; including correlation and regression analysis, analysis of variance, discriminant analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and multidimensional scaling. The conceptual treatment emphasizes the rationales, applications, and interpretations, rather than the theoretical mathematical aspects of the most commonly used data analysis techniques in use today, closing the gap between spiraling technology and its intelligent application, providing students and researchers with a decided advantage in their future studies and careers.
Its conceptual non-mathematical approach is especially helpful to students, researchers, and managers in the social and health sciences, education, and business. It is also the ideal springboard for those who will pursue advanced study of these powerful multivariate techniques.
Customer Reviews:
best statistical intro without lots of math.......2007-09-24
well worth every penny or cent.
clear examples on the nuts and bolts of statistical modelling.
highly recommended for the beginner to the expert to fill in the gaps in statistics.
Just the concepts, done well........2007-06-27
As a statistics software trainer, most folks that I meet are not looking for a book that explains how to use a method by hand, without the computer. Unfortunately almost all the books you will find on Multivariate Stats will be very large tomes bloated with formulas and exercises. This book in contrast is: 1) an easy read; 2) focusing on the concepts behind the technique; 3) is reasonably priced; and 4) is not a door stopper. Check out the table of contents. You will probably find the technique you need. Factor Analysis, Cluster Analysis, etc. are all represented. If you are an SPSS user, as I am, you won't find any pictures of SPSS, or step by step instructions. You will find only the theory behind the techniques, but there is more than enough great content here to warrant adding it to your library. Not only that, most step by step guides skimp on the theory, so it is best that you get one of each. Check out Norusis for good books for "step by step" in SPSS. She also does a good job at the theory, but Kachigan gets the highest grade for explaining theory.
Multivariate Statistical Analysis.......2007-05-07
I am enrolled in a Risk Management course. Without any previous statistics courses I was struggling. My professor recommended this book and it changed everything for me. I was actually able to learn and understand statistics from the beginning to multivariate analysis from this book. It made it so very plain and simple. I am now successfully going forward again. I would recommend this to anyone from beginner to Masters level who needs a reference at hand.
A good start.......2007-02-17
This small book it's a good way for experiencing in multiv. stat. analysis. It's very understandable and easy to read.
Valuable introduction to important concepts.......2006-05-30
Covers fundamental concepts and probability in the first two chapters; then proceeds to full discussions of correlation, regression, and analysis of variance, with shorter discussions of more advanced topics: discriminant analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and multidimensional scaling. The emphasis is less on math and more on concepts and uses than with standard textbooks. This book made clear several concepts that I had tripped over in The Cartoon Guide to Statistics.
