Bacterial-feeding nematodes are, with protozoa, the main grazers of soil bacteria. Interactions between bacteria and nematodes have important repercussions on soil functioning and particularly on nutrient availability. We assessed the influence of the bacterial strains ingested on bacterial-feeding nematodes population development and also the consequences of nematode feeding behaviour on the structure of the soil microbial community with a special attention to different soil micro-habitats for nematode and bacteria. In vivo studies conducted in the presence of single bacterial strains showed that the type of ingested bacteria conditioned the development of the different bacterial-feeding Cephalobidae nematode species tested and that the effect of bacteria differed between nematode species. The spatial distribution of soil nematodes between three soil habitats (fresh organic matter, inter-aggregates pores and aggregates) depended of the trophic behaviour of nematodes. Bacterial-feeding nematodes and fungal-feeding nematodes showed comparable distribution: being preferentially located in the fresh organic matter and in the inter-aggregate pores. Besides, the activity of inoculated bacterial-feeding nematodes modified the genetic structure of the soil microbial community. Bacterial community of the macroporosity was significantly influenced by the nematodes. On the contrary, no modification of the structure of the bacterial community linked with nematode activity was measured in the bulk soil.

Excellent overview for the non-specialist train enthusiast.......2003-12-28

This book is sure to kindle even the smallest flames of love for old trains. If you are looking for any particular details about a specific old railroad, this is not the book for you. Instead, it appeals to all for whom old railroads also have a certain emotional appeal. The texts are intriguing and very well written. The pictures, as well, are captivating. Many of them benefit from the beautiful fall colors this area has to offer.

The only reason that I do not give this book five stars is that I feel its layout conveys a certain "restlessness" that contradicts the topic it deals with. Also, some pictures that I don't think deserve it get a full page, whereas others are tiny insets that would have benefitted from a somewhat larger reproduction. And any photograph that goes across the crease should be outlawed, anyway. At least as long as the crease affects the main subject. A case in point is the fine picture of the Manitou & Pikes Peak steam engine on pages 40-41, or the Royal Gorge train on pages 80-81, whereas the Silverton train on pages 114-115 is not affected very much.

But aside from these (overall) minor points, this is a book that deserves a wide distribution. That special combination of a beautiful landscape and fascinating remains of a century old train culture comes across very well. It will thus appeal beyond the train lover community. And it invites visitors to Colorado to explore new areas, e.g. to go into areas that don't have active trains anymore now.

Great book.......2003-01-16

The narrative and photographs in this book are superlative. I am inspired to get out into the high country and rediscover the beautiful settings and associated railroad history described in this book. For anyone with an interest in great outdoor Colorado landscapes, railroad photographs, a well written history of railroads in Colorado, this book is a must read. In this book, Claude Wiatrowski has displayed his talents as an outstanding writer and photographer.

Nicely done "coffee table style" book with excellent photography and content, appealing to both the Colorado railroad history buff and newcomer. The book is well organized for easy reading or for just browsing the photos and captions. The text for each railroad includes a guide for exploring historic locations, as well as tips for riding current tourist railroads. Also included is a reference map showing statewide railroad routes.

Wow Great Pictures.......2002-11-03

A friend of mine bought this book and it is definitly on my soon to own list. Even if you are not into railroads the pictures are awesome!! This is a must have for all Coloradoians and for people who just want to come visit!!

This is the first time in I life I thought of returning a book I got online. A lot of bla-bla, but the real information in this book, is ZERO, if you are really after a how-to book. To my humble opinion what the title creates as expection from this book and what actually this book could offer are several miles apart.

Quick and easy overview to owning an offshore bank !.......2001-08-15

I found this book to be a fast-reading, informative overview to owning an offshore international bank. Its 12 chapters cover topics ranging from how these banks work, privacy issues, risks and tax-benefits, to asset protection, case histories and how and where to begin. I'm interested in finance, but do not currently have my own offshore bank. There's plenty of useful information in this volume, but reading it is just the beginning. Anyone venturing into this area of banking should certainly personally obtain the assistance of an "expert" in the field. If you're considering such a venture, reading this book is an appropriate start.

I think the book is helpful if you are in a early stage of setting up a offshore bank and need more information about different jurisdictions and examples of bank operations.

The book is rather out of date when it comes to some jurisdictions though. The most interesting jurisdiction today (if you ask me), Republic of Montenegro, with only USD10K in capital requirement is not mentioned at all.

I have already set up a Montenegro bank of my own (through...) and the irony is that this book is promoted from that site.

An Infomercial that YOU Have to Pay For.......2000-05-09

Like his other books, this offers some information, but is woefully shy on useable details except when it comes to the "Schneider Approach." For approximately $40,000 Jerome will set you up in little known jurisdiction like Vanuatu or Nauru in a bank that will cost you plenty. The question is, what can you do with it? For the vast majority of offshore investors, an offshore bank is very expensive and only useable for those who want to conduct actual global banking business. Translation - If you are an international banker with an experienced team, a correspondent bank and millions of $ behind you, a bank makes sense. For all others, it probably doesn't.

I have found many better books on the market for those who are looking to venture offshore.
