Book Description
Whether you seek the grandeur of the imperial cities or the remoteness of an atlantic fortress town, the splendour and serenity of the Atlas mountains or the bustle of a souk, this guide will help you make the most of a country that has fascinated travellers for centuries. It includes itineraries for short breaks and longer stays off the beaten track, background information on Arab and Berber culture, coverage of contemporary Moroccan life, music, food and architecture and extensive listings of where to stay and eat.
Customer Reviews:
Don't judge a book by its cover.......2005-01-14
It is interesting to me that this is the 4th edition of the Footprint Morocco guide. It reads and suggests much like a first edition. The package and organization of Footprint guides are very well done, the cover holds up well, the pages are easy to read, and information is easy to find when you understand their system. That being said, the guide is misleading over and over. I am surprised to read the reviews of commendation that precede me, for my travel in Morocco was not complimented by this book. The basics were covered, sure, but bus and train times, quantities, and trip lengths were way off at times, and written directions were just plain wrong on occassion. The city maps can be overlooked, because mapping a medina is an obvious difficulty, but written instructions (take second right, then first left) were almost always wrong. I am good at following directions, but the landmarks and routes given were flawed. The Footprint South America is a good tool, so I will in no way criticize the whole series, but the Morocco book can get you going in the wrong direction. I don't recommend it.
most thorough, most accurate..........2002-10-01
this is the finest of the guidebooks out on the market about morocco today. the information is very much up-to-date and you will find more information on smaller towns and destinations than you will in any of the competitors' guidebooks... which of the others will give you maps of small towns and mountain areas?
i also found the background information sections to be very useful, with everything from a basic history of the country to recipes which i have actually used since returning home... the book is useful for travelers of any economic category (unlike LP and especially let's go) since it gives hotel suggestions in every price range... this is invaluable and i've never understood why other guidebooks don't do the same, especially in a country like morocco where you can come by some great accommodations even in the 25-35 price range... perhaps the only slight drawback to this guide (as with almost all of them) is that some of the sights are not really thoroughly explained, but comparing it with LP and the others, footprint's guides certainly do a better job of it... congratulations on the great guidebook and i hope an update comes soon with better maps! (roadways should be better marked in all the footprint guides and the way the full country maps are divided is very weird and uncomfortable, though the town maps are fine)
A Traveler's Bible.......2000-10-31
I spent two weeks travelling in Morocco and this guide book was indispensible! I found it far superior to the standard Let's Go and Lonely Planet guides for a number of reasons, among them the overall durability of the book - the cover and binding are designed to stay in one piece, and they did even though we referred to it many many times a day - something that definitely did not happen with my Lonely Planet guides. Also, the warning section was straightforward without being overwhelming, which is to say I knew what I was getting into but it didn't scare me away from going. Every time I had a question, no matter how far out I thought it was, I found an answer in this book. My only complaint - the maps are not as detailed as they could be (understandable considering the complexities of many Moroccan cities). If you're travelling to Morocco be sure to pick up a detailed map of each city as soon as you arrive - and have a fabulous time!

thourough; down to earth; ideal for 'inventive'traveler.......1998-10-07
Anne & Keith McLachlan have covered just every possible track and hamlet with the wide open eyes of the first world tourist. If there is a bus or lorry going from one remote place to another, they mention it, plus the condition of the track, the lodging, the food and what have you. They not only give thourough info on history, geology, politics and social structure, but also on how to handle harassing 'guides'and others. This book is in my opinion the best so far. I've been in Morocco twice now and this book beats the guide by The Lonely Planet, The Rough Guide and the French: Maroc, edition Gallimard. However, if you prefer beautiful photo's, this book is not the one. In that case the French guide beats them all.

A pretty book, but I didn't find the content very insightful -- it reads more like a glossy, extended brochure. Also, I don't know why they chose those particular projects. Oh well. I returned my copy.
Excellant book, must have for any quilter.......1999-10-13
The wait for this book has been well worth it. Not only is the book very educational but offers beautiful quilt projects as well. It is obvious that a lot of effort and planning went into this publication. Definitely a valuable addition to any quilter's library!

Marissa Moss, author of the popular Amelia's Notebook series, moves into new territory with Rachel's Journal, the story of a spirited 10-year-old pioneer girl who must leave her childhood home in Illinois and travel by covered wagon to the wilds of California. Rachel is entrusted by her grandfather to chronicle the long journey in the form of a handwritten journal. Through her journal entries, we are transported into a world of new adventures and fearsome challenges as Rachel's family and the others in their wagon train make their way along the Oregon Trail in search of a homestead in the Sacramento Valley.
Rachel is refreshingly unconventional: she dons her brother's shirt and britches when one of the oxen makes "a nice meal" of her only wool dress, learns to crack a whip, and makes friends with a young American Indian brave. Children will delight in the day-to-day accounts of life on the trail, enhanced by the notes and colorful drawings Rachel has added to the journal's margins. Based on real diaries kept by courageous pioneers between 1846 and 1868, Rachel's Journal is an excellent choice for third graders and older, and can also be successfully read aloud to younger children, who will enjoy imagining themselves as pioneering adventurers. An intimate look at a momentous journey, this book will not fail to move and inspire readers of all ages. --Aimée Damman
Book Description
In this first book in the Young American Voices series, young Rachel and her family travel by covered wagon following the Oregon Trail from Illinois all the way to California. The terrain is rough and the seven-month trip is filled with adventure--a surprise encounter with Indians, a thunderous buffalo stampede, even the perilous crossing of a flooded river. Rachel's own handwritten journal chronicles every detail and features cherished "pasted-in" mementos--wildflowers, buttons, quilt patches--gathered along the way. Hear Rachel's story in her own words as she and her family make their way to their new home in California.
Customer Reviews:
Great book for studying pioneers.......2007-05-16
A student asked me to buy this particular book and she has been pouring over it since it arrived.
Rachels Journal Review .......2005-02-12
I like the book because ,it is writer in letters. Rachels likes to writter in like 12 day. I will read more of other book like it .
Loved this Book!.......2003-02-22
Just like Marissa Moss' "Amelia" books, this was a hand-written, journal-style book, with lots of pictures. It is the journal of ten-year-old Rachel, who travels with her family of pioneers from Illinois to California in search of a better place to live. In her journal, she records the trip and there are many details! It has humor thrown in, great pictures, and a nice journal format. I've enjoyed reading this book, and I can't wait to read all of Marissa Moss' other historical journals.
Good for Class; Good for Home.......2002-09-10
Though this book is meant to be an aid in the classroom, I found it highly enjoyable even for the casual reader. It informs while entertaining. By using the medium of a girl's diary, the author is able to show facets of pioneer life not often brought out. This book is well worth the price, both as a fun read and as a useful reference.
It's like an old, handwritten journal!.......2001-09-25
Moss brings to this book a thoroughly delightful 'hand written' format along with marginal and textual illustrations to dramatize the effect that it is the actual journal of Rachel, a young girl who records her thoughts and observations along the trail. This book should be on the shelves of any family whose proud heritage goes back to those who ventured West to take up roots in the Great American frontier of the nineteenth century. Moss draws her readers into an excitement filled, seven month journey along the famed Oregon trail. The subject has enormous appeal to a wide range of young readers, especially when we approach the years 2004 - 2006, the 200th anniversary of the famed corps of discovery, which started the Westward movement.
Such a book would be a keepsake to pass on to succeeding generations, who often times fail to completely grasp the hardships ancestors had to endure so that they could have a more comfortable life. Part of the author's extensive research included examinations of the unpublished journals collection, covering the years 1846 through 1868, forming part of the collection of Bancroft Library at the University of California at Berkeley.
She succeeded admirably in accomplishing her goal to weave in documented episodes of travel and its dangers along the famed Oregon trail. And others will surely get the flavor of the pioneer spirit within the pages of this truly wonderful keepsake.

An amazing image filled look into women's history.......2007-10-11
I LOVE this book. This book is filled with pictures, stories, diagrams and tons of details of a life I am glad I can only imagine. It even has a diagram that shows how a womans organs got squished and rearranged by the corsets they wore. It covers how woman lives all the way from the adults to the girls, from the slaves to the rich. It is so interesting you will forget you are learning;)

They're Off! : The Story of the Pony Express
ASIN: 0792259203
Release Date: 2006-10-10 |
Book Description
When she was a young girl, Narcissa loved nothing better than to read heroic tales about brave men and women risking their lives to bring Christian ideas to "barbarians" in far-off places. In 1831, her dream of doing the same was about to come true. That's when some Indians arrived in St. Louis, Missouri, looking for the "White Man's Book of Heaven." Their quest was the answer to Narcissa's prayers: She would bring salvation to "those wandering sons of our native forests. "
Narcissa married Marcus Whitman, another missionary want-to-be, and they headed West. She spent her honeymoon riding side-saddle some 2,000 miles across the vast, often perilous trail to Oregon Countrysomething no other white woman had ever done. Then she and Marcus lived happily ever after singing hymns and teaching the Indians about the Bible, right? Wrong! Readers will find out what really happened when East met West at the end of the real-life, legendary Oregon Trail.

You can FEEL the blood flowing through his penises! :--).......2005-07-03
Seriously though. I have never seen such amazing penises!! I came across a show of Jean Cocteau work at a museum in Montreal in 2004. I was not familiar with him, but immediately fell in love. Homoerotic drawings are just one type of his works, but I must say, the realism in these drawings is just phenomenal...
Dreamy erotic Art.......2002-01-10
Whit Jean Cocteau drawings you're flying on erotic clouds.Yes,this the Dreamtime of sex, when anything is possible.
While being essential, Jean Cocteau's drawing is gentle and evocative. I loved it!

I accidentally stumbled across the work of this artist during a recent trip abroad. I had never heard of Cocteau or his reputation as an artist. His nudes are both provocative and engaging. Although this book only shows one dimension of his craft, it is well assembled and the quality of the publication is exceptional. Don't miss your chance to see his work if you can. There is really nothing else like it.
