Do's and Taboos Around the World for Women in Business .......2006-08-03
Interesting for young very unexperienced women.
Recipe for success?? --> Take action !!!.......2005-05-21
"Do's and Taboos Around the World for Women in Business" is a highly interesting book, and one that is likely to prove useful for women who need to travel abroad for business reasons. Moreover, it is quite engaging, due to the fact that the authors combine practical advice with funny anecdotes about women working in international business.
I recommend you to read the whole book, if you can, because at least some of the tips it gives might help to you. On the other hand, if you are pressed for time, just read the parts that interest you more. The book is neatly divided into chapters according to subjects:
-Part one: Survival "over there" (it includes -> 1: Sex, dating, discrimination and harassment; 2: Know your product, know the culture; 3: Protocol for women; 4: Safety when traveling; 5:Healthy traveling; 6: Luggage and packing; chapters 1 to 6).
-Part two: Advice country by country (it analyzes some countries in particular, but most are grouped and studied by regions; chapters 7 to 22).
-Part three: Women in the world of work (it includes -> 23: Women in international business: past, present and future; 24: How I got my first job in international business; 25: Profiles of three successful women; chapters 23 to 25).
-Part four: The international assignment (it includes -> 26: To go or not to go; 27: Preparing for your life abroad; 28: Family matters; 29: On-the-job challenges; 30: Culture shock; 31: Repatriation and reverse culture shock; 32: Cross-cultural and language training; chapters 26 to 32).
-Part five: Help for the independent businesswoman who wishes to work abroad (it includes -> 33: Tips for the independent career search).
-Part six: Additional resources.
Personally, I found some chapters more practical than others, for instance I took great advantage of the tips on what to pack ("You don't need more clothes, more colors, more combinations. You need fewer things, carefully chosen"), but I guess that depends on what each of us needs more.
On the other hand, bear in mind that even though the advice that the writers give is right on the spot in most occasions, that is not always the case. For example, they point out that punctuality isn't overly important in Latin American countries, but I'm from Argentina and I can say that many think that arriving late is rude, so if you were to arrive late to a business meeting just to "follow local custom", you would be giving a bad impression.
Notwithstanding that, I can tell you that I really liked this book. I specially enjoyed the fact that the authors take into account that "international business tends to be uncomfortable for most North American managers -men as well as women. Many have yet to develop cross-cultural experience, skills, perspective, and confidence". Their recipe for success?. Well, according to them "You can allay your doubts by taking action. To overcome negative attitudes toward women in international business you must assume the initiative and thoroughly prepare yourself".
On the whole, I found this book very useful, and I believe that it can be valuable not only for women in international business but also to those who need to travel abroad with their families due to their spouses' job. "Do's and Taboos Around the World for Women in Business" isn't a perfect book, but it is a very good one, and the kind of book you will want to carry with you around the world.

Do's and Taboo's.......2005-04-12
I thought that this book while touching on many areas of do's and taboos was very basic in it's approach...perhaps even juvenile or youngsterish...While I was looking for actual do's and don't this book often offered situational issues...rarely stating DON"TS and offering multiple choices instead of stating the real Do's in many cases. Good for young adults and young persons going into new countries. Older people probably want a guide that states the facts like: In this country..cover your head in public at all times..instead of choice 1-go buy a head scarf.....2 tear a part off your dress and make one ...3 go scarfless...4 scream loudly I'm an American and don't need it.
I was really looking for more depth and coverage from a experienced traveled business person on exactly what to do. Still a starting point for a new business traveler.
great exploration of gender equity issues.......2001-09-15
my middle school students have found this book useful because
it not only discusses gender issues in the world of business,
but also offers strategies how U.S. women can be successful in
cultures with even less equitable relations between the genders than our own country.
Outstanding Resource for Military Spouses on OCONUS Tours.......1999-06-27
Great information for preparing for an overseas tour. It includes a wealth of information, country-specific tips, wonderful checklists to help you prepare for the overseas tour, and an extensive reference list to continue your pre-travel research. It will alert you to cultural nuances at your destination so that you can be prepared to present yourself effectively and avoid possible embarrassment. If you plan to work (or even become involved in the native community abroad), I highly recommend this book-- it will ensure you are better prepared and confident, so you'll enjoy your overseas adventure.
Book Description
The 20th century has been a period of spectacular change. We have moved from letters in the mail to e-mail on the Internet, from the horseless carriage to the space shuttle, from the bayonet to the atomic bomb. The Oxford Children's Book of the 20th Century looks at the grand themes of the
last 100 years, examining both serious and not so serious subjects in the scientific, cultural and political spheres. War, sports, the technological revolution, entertainment, racism and fourteen other subjects are each treated in self-contained double-page spreads which explain clearly and
authoritatively the major developments within the area throughout the century. Dramatic changes--so dramatic that children can find them hard to grasp--are simply explained in a text that is supported by stunning photos, maps, and diagrams.

Nice Cookbook from a Great Company that Donates to Outstanding Organizations.......2006-03-11
I love Paul Newman. He does so much for kids and other charitable organizations. It's hard to believe an actor like Paul Newman would be so active in non-profit organizations. It's also nice that he does it through offering awesome products that help your family out too.
This cookbook is an awesome example of that. They contain mostly healthy recipes that contribute to a well-balanced and nutritious meal. While this cookbook isn't for cooking with the youngest of children, it is perfect for children over 5, even up to teenagers. One of the things that I love about this book is that it has a Vegetables/Sides category that is packed with vege meals for kids, along with suggestions on what to add to make even the ickiest vegetables appealing to the most of... ahem... Discriminating palates. :) The "Ten Tips for food and Kitchen Safety" tips are great for parents who're teaching kitchen safety.
The book is filled with anecdotal stores and letters from children and other people impacted by Paul Newman's "Hole in the Wall Gang" group. Some of the stories are hilarious (my favorite was the one from the 13 year old who said she likes Paul Newman's Dressing because it doesn't give her dad "the squirts").
For charitable purposes alone, that makes this book worth the investment. But something about knowing you've bought a cookbook that helps reinforce good eating, where you can teach your kids how to cook anything from Chicken Soup and Stone Soup, Tic-Tac-Toe Quesadillas, Peace Pasta, Three-Cheese Potato Gratin, Cheddar Muffins, and other great, family friendly meals... I don't know... It just makes you feel really good. :) I don't know what's best about this book... The recipes, the fact you can make them with your family, or the charities you support by buying it. Anybody who cooks needs this book!
Or maybe I'm a little biased... There's a recipe called "Newman's Very Own Lemon Blueberry Cake" which, I swear, tastes EXACTLY like my wedding cake... ;)
God Bless This Company!.......2001-10-13
I am a loyal user of Newman's Own and Newman's Own Organics. This is a fun cookbook. My daughter and I enjoyed making the Jack in the Beanstalk Soup. It is nice to have a cookbook including so many of the Newman products. Lemonade Chicken Wings? Very tasty and a nice variety from the spicy.
Congratualtions Mr Newman. I hope this book makes the kids a lot of money!
The Turkey meatballs and spaghetti is really good........1999-03-09
The books recipes are fun and easy. Some of My family members will not eat beef, and the Turkey meatballs and spaghetti was an excellent sub for beef meatballs.

LOST BALLS is a unique and colorful look at the game of golf from the perspective of the under-celebrated wayward shot. Charles Lindsay's photographs offer a humorous and inquisitive foray into the hazards where golf balls are lost-rough, woods, bunkers, and wetlands-as well as unexpected encounters with wildlife on and off the green. An avid golfer with plenty of experience losing balls, Lindsay photographs his way to the heart of the game with a light touch and an eye for telling details. In the process, he discovers balls ravaged by golfers, gators, and foxes-and lost for over a century.

The best coffee table book in the house.......2007-07-13
This book's photographs are absolutely brilliant! I first saw the book walking through a store and picked it up only to open up to a page where a golf ball was stuck in a pile of poo. I was flipping pages before you knew it and every shot had me smiling, laughing, reminiscing and just really enjoying the photos. If you are a golfer or going to be buying this book for a golfer I am sure they will get as much enjoyment out of it as I have. Everyone comes into our home and I catch them flipping pages on the book and enjoying it. So don't pass this book up, buy it now!
For every golfer.......2007-06-27
I gave my husband Lost Balls for Father's Day and he absolutely loved it. My 16 year old son and I both enjoyed it as well. This book has beautiful pictures - the photography is excellent - that capture some incredible and impossible lies. The scenes are lovely and make one appreciate golf as a form of relaxation. The many precarious positions that are captured make one appreciate golf as an obsession. For those who love and hate this game, this book will be enjoyed.
A book for every golfer.......2007-03-20
I bought one for a friend and another for myself. If you play
golf, you think that maybe the results of some of your own
golf shots may not be so bad. Even if you don't play golf,
the pictures are funny and interesting (as long as it is someone
else's ball). Well worth the money.
Cover misleading.......2007-02-04
The cover indicated unusual scenes on the golf course. The other monthly pictures were rather ordinary.
Great photos.......2007-01-10
I bought this book as a gift for a friend, but ended up sharing it with various family before wrapping it up. It was also the hit of the party when it WAS opened. Very entertaining and a book easy to pick up and look at more than once. A hit for golfers or those who enjoy a photo with a message.

An Essential Selection.......2002-09-11
Of his friend Tom Pickard, Allen Ginsberg said the following: "Young Tom Pickard for years ran the Morden Tower readings in Newcastle, G.B., and from early 1960's on was chief friend host & proponent of new wave American poetics--Creeley, Dorn, Duncan, post-William Carlos Williams visitors passing thru his Northumbria. I am an old admirer of his poetry and believe he's one of the livest, truest poets of Great Britain. Under guidance from his friend the elder Basil Bunting, he's writ poetry with condensation, sharp focus and local speech directness in lineage joining Willliams and 'Geordie' lyric vernacular."
