Customer Reviews:
Excellent for budget travelers.......2007-10-12
I used this guidebook while touring Spain and Portugal. It was full of good information on places to visit and places to stay. The directions were easy to follow and I found their reviews of the places I stayed to be accurate. A word of caution - the Lisbon bus depot has relocated since this book was published - check with the tourist office for up to date info.
Been to Spain Twice..........2006-01-31
...and I used this guide both times. Incredible amounts of information for the budget traveler. I especially appreciate how accurate everything is. The food recommends are great, too.
Basically, of the guides I have used before, this is the best for somebody on a budget. Also, this guide seems the best for anybody traveling alone.
On a Shoestring.......2005-09-15
Whenever you would want to travel on "a shoestring" consider this guide. It gives some great suggestions for things to see, places to stay and nice restaurants. All this information is presented in a structured and clear way. Let's go is not afraid to express their own opinion without being biased. It is also great read if you want get some background on Spain and Portugal.
The big question at hand of course is if it beats the Lonely Planet and other budget guides. I feel this is something of personal preference. The information in the guide is not that different from one of the other guides but the way they structure it is different. An advantage of the Let's go is that it seems to somewhat less popular than the Lonely Planet.
Therefore you run less of a risk that this "special place" that is mentioned somewhere in the guide is crowded with other travelers that bought the same guide.
A Practical Guide.......2005-08-04
Excellent information for all tourists. . For the older traveler willing to spend a few more dollars forget the lodging advice, use the food, transportion, money information, etc. For the young on a budget all the information is important.
A Magic book, as we called it.......2005-06-15
From March till May of 2005 i have been cruising all of Portugal and south of Spain ( andaluzia ). I have accidentally bought this book in amazon by reading a negative review on Lonely planet - and all i can say is that this book is worth every cent of its price.
If you are not budget traveler - this books is not for you, but if you want to save money, and see the best of Portugal and Spain - it's definitely for you.
I and my friends have found lots of good accommodations for the very low price, we've seen thing that Lets go recommended, and we went to the lots of places. This book save me lots of money and helped to explore those two beautiful countries.
Of course some prices ar higher than they say, but that doesn't go beyond 1-5 euros.
And as they say - not all information should bu trusted 100 % - some thing change in a short time.
So, if you are a independent traveler ( or perhaps a student like me ) and want to see the best of Spain on Portugal, saving as much as you can - this book is definitely for you

Book Description
The seat is an object of great cultural and artistic importance in Africa. This beautifully illustrated volume offers a fascinating look at the dazzling variety of chairs, stools, backrests, and thrones that have been used throughout in sub-Saharan Africa for centuries.
Made from wood, stone, iron, and fibers; elaborately carved, beaded or bejeweled, as well as rough-hewn, basic and crude, these artifacts tell us as much about the social customs of the civilizations that created them as they do about their people's incredible artistry. In gorgeous, full-color plates as well as numerous black and white photographs, nearly two hundred examples of African seats are portrayed in geographical context. Essays by leading ethnologists and specialists in the field of African art offer revealing insights into the symbolic importance of the seat. Whether for cooking, weaving, giving birth, reclining or ruling; whether offered in friendship or war; whether worn smooth by constant use or preserved by non-use, each of these seats possesses an unmistakable beauty and exceptional sculptural power.
Book Description
With his visionary, colorful home furnishings, Danish designer Verner Panton sought ways to fashin a stylistically uniform, imaginative interior. His plastic Panton chair, a one-piece cantilevered design made in candy-apple colors, has been in production continuously since 1968, and its sinuous shape is recognizable to millions who have never heard the designer's name. By the early sixties, he had already helped establish a color spectrum that dominated home design until the mid seventies. This first comprehensive monogram on Panton's work also includes his "Phantasy Landscape," a foam rubber room of womb-like organic shapes designed for the Visiona II exhibition at the 1970 Cologne furniture fair. A must-have for lovers of late-twentieth century furniture and "interior landscape." Dimension: 9 x 12 inches, over 500 color reproductions, CD-ROM included.
Customer Reviews:
An exceptional book about an exceptional designer!.......2001-07-07
This well documented book covers Verner Panton, the most remarkable innovative talent of 20th Century Design and Architecture. His design is searched for by collectors all over the world and fetch high prices at major auction houses. Verner Panton was an artist in the true sense of the word. He did not have the creative obstructions that adults get accustomed too when they grow up. Instead he created his own wonderland through the eyes of a child. His design was consistently brilliant, he created sensual shaped furniture in vibrant colors and even added sound and smell to his interior projects so one could become completely one with his surroundings. He was first to create inflatable furniture, pioneered with the much acclaimed single molded plastic chair and refused to accept gravity by creating the Flying Chair. Panton envisioned a colorful future. His career was highlighted by the Visiona Landscapes he created for Bayer AG in 1968 and 1970 that have now achieved cult status. This book is a profusely illustrated with hundreds of full color pictures that document his fairy tale interiors. It includes a nice timeline with all his creations which make it a necessity for every collector. The Definitive Guide for anyone with a young heart and a wild imagination. We also suggest to visit the online vernerpanton.com archive.

See these '100 Masterpieces' in Allentown, PA.......2000-01-18
The exhibition detailed in this book opened January 16 at the Allentown (Pensylvania) Art Museum and runs through April 9, 2000. This was my first and very pleasant visit to this museum. While I was familiar with many of these design icons (mainly chairs) it was fun to see original bent-wood Hoffmans; pony, latex, carbon fiber, stainless wire and goose-down filled leather adapted to the human rear; and perhaps the most striking if surely uncomfortable object, the MN-01 LC1, Lockheed Lounge, by Marc Newson (imagine reclining on the fuselage of a DC3). Most appealing to me must be the Supperleggera (Super-lightweight) #699 by Gio Ponti, manufactured by Cassina. Ebonized triangular ash legs with a delicately woven cane seat must surely reward the sitter with a feeling of some early Ferrari. Stupidly, the items which are still produced are not available to try out--it is all "no touch." I flipped through this '100 Masterpieces' book and it looks thorough, with detailed text to accompany the excellent photos. On a related note I recently read and enjoyed Chairman Rolf, produced by Tibor Kalman, which depicts the eccentric genius behind Vitra, Rolf Fehlbaum. Also on exhibit at this museum are: 1. Harry Bertoia's Monoprints. He worked with Charles and Ray Eames and later headed Knoll's design department....his chair #422 is in the Vitra exhibit. 2. the Little Library designed by Frank Lloyd Wright (the living room sits in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY). Allentown Art Museum, Fifth & Court Streets, Allentown, PA 610.432-4333, ext.10.

Book Description
Mies van der Rohe ranks alongside Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier as one of the most influential and important architects of our century. He was not only an accomplished and groundbreaking architect but also a first-rate, long-term lecturer and organiser of architectural events. It is thanks to his most important European building projects, the German pavilion for the Barcelona World Fair (1929) and the Villa Tugendhat in Brno that modern architecture was able to emerge from his experimental phase into full maturity. This book documents Mies van der Rohe's oeuvre as furniture designer and architect in the context of his three major European projects in Stuttgart, Barcelona, Brno.
Customer Reviews:
God is in the work of Mies van der Rohe.......2001-03-05
Okay, si I'm biased. My ideal home would be something like the Farnsworth House with all the furniture designed for the Barcelona expo.
So, for me, this is an excellent book which acts as a showpiece for the selected works of the timeless brilliance of Mies van der Rohe.
The book covers his architectural, interior design and furniture design work with a fairly balanced distribution of illustrations and written content.

It embraces all "masterpieces" of any style, material and shape, presenting each one within its historical framework, and "profiling" it with really interesting details relating to the inspiration/source and the novelty of the idea behind it, the designer's intentions, the functionality, materials as well as interesting specifics on the construction itself.

Book Description
Project Vitra began in 1957 in Birsfelden near Basel with the production of the furniture of Charles & Ray Eames and George Nelson. Today Vitra is active and known throughout the world for its products and cultural initiatives, which are evidenced by the Vitra Design Museum, its collections, and the architecture of the firm’s own corporate campus. Vitra sees itself first and foremost as a project driven by the desire and determination to design the world.
This ambition is also the driving force behind «Project Vitra», which offers an inside look at the firm’s collaboration with architects and designers, including Charles & Ray Eames, George Nelson, Alexander Girard, Tibor Kalman, Frank Gehry, Tadao Ando, SANAA, Jasper Morrison, Zaha Hadid, Hella Jongerius, Maarten Van Severen,
Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Jean Prouvé, Mario Bellini, Antonio Citterio, Alberto Meda, Verner Panton, Herzog & de Meuron, and many others. The copiously illustrated chapters with contributions by Alex Coles, Rolf Fehlbaum, Luis Fernández-Galiano, Deyan Sudjic, and Alexander von Vegesack tell stories about the places, people, and products connected with Vitra. This overview is rounded off by a history of the firm and a comprehensive glossary.
