    Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

    Book Description

Over the course of the intrepid six-year voyage recounted herein, Tristan Jones sailed a small craft on both the Dead Sea in Israel and Lake Titicaca in the Andes, respectively the lowest and highest bodies of water in the entire world. He traversed a distance equal to twice Earth's circumference, and found himself “a thousand times beyond the limits of endurance.” He also dodged snipers on the Red Sea, capsized off the Cape of Good Hope, starved on the Amazon, struggled for 3,000 miles against the mightiest sea current in the world, and hauled his boat over the rugged Andes to find the legendary Island of the Sun, beyond which lay the most awesome challenge of all: a torturous odyssey – across 6,000 miles of uncharted rivers – in search of the coast.

    4 out of 5 stars Incredible.......2006-05-09

If you're looking for a great adventurous story, this is a great one to start with. Jones was not only a very interesting guy, and formidable sailor, but a heck of a storyteller as well. Alot will be said about how exagerated his tales are, or whether he made alot of them up. To me, this is beside the point. His books are great getaways for the mind of the reader. Jones had a unigue literary voice, and a salty character, and his books are great adventures. This book is the best of all the ones I have read by him, followed closely by "Ice." Whatever you say of the man, he was truly an original.

    5 out of 5 stars A True Old Salt.......2002-08-16

Tristan Jones was truly a man of the sea. This is an amazing tale of truimph over the elements and physical exhaustion.
Mr. Jones wanted to be the first person to sail a ship on the lowest body of water and the highest, and sail the route between. For most of the voyage he is accompanied by another crewmate (one on the first leg of the journey and one at the end), but he also spent some time sailing alone.
One of the most memorable moments, and one that illustrates the hardships endured, was the description of the nightly preparations for aanchoring the ship on the Amazon River as they attempted to steer against the flow of that great body of water to reach Lake Titicaca. First, the men had to tie the ship to a tree and make certain it was anchored far enough from the canopy of branches to make sure no carpenter ants could fall into the vessel and start chewing on the wood. Next, they had to grease the rope tied to the tree to prevent snakes from slithering on board, and finally, the windows had to be boarded up so that no bats could enter. And that is just one small part of this adventure!!
Along the way, Mr. Jones not only describes life aboard ship, but also gives a look into the lives of those he comes in contact with, and sometimes a bit of history of the area he is currently visiting.
One thing is for sure - you won't be bored.

    5 out of 5 stars A Gripping Tale of a Sea Voyage.......2002-06-25

When reading this book, the reader is entranced with the adventurer that is Tristan Jones. He describes his journey in a manner which entertains, educates and captivates. For a boat lover, this book is a must read. For the adventure fan, this book provides hours of entertainment and excitement. Certainly, Tristan Jones finest hour.

4 out of 5 stars A Good Yarn with Minor Flaws.......2002-05-03

This is a pretty entertaining account of one man's quest to sail the same ship from the lowest body of water on Earth (The Dead Sea in Israel) to the highest (Lake Titicaca in the Andes), a feat never attempted before or since. Jones, apparently a renown figure in sailing circles, took five or six years from the late 1960s to early '70s to complete his quest, enduring many a hardship throughout. One thing that needs to be understood from the get go is that Jones was kind of a crusty old sea-dog type, and some of his writing is repetitive and irksome.

One example is his constant tirade against bureaucracy, which he seems to believe only exists to stifle adventurous souls like him. While it's true that he faced a lot of stupid red tape, and had to bribe his way a number of times, he treats it like a personal assault on him. Another is his dismaying encyclopedic knowledge of the brothels of port's around the world-we are reliable informed what areas to frequent in various ports, where the world's largest brothel is, and that Madagascar's hookers of mixed Javanese and Arab blood are the most beautiful women in the world. While he's totally scornful of wealthy Westerns who try and live an elevated "colonial" existence in lesser-developed countries the reader is somehow supposed to overlook his (and his crew's) exploitation of women around the world?

In any event, Jones was of a different age, and if one can overlook certain elements of the narrative, there's a very good adventure story to be had. While it's certainly more likely to appeal to sailors (nonsailors like myself will want to skim certain passages about technical nautical matters), the book is really more about distant places and people, especially in South America. As Jones' travels take him from place to place, he includes little bits or history and ethnography. My own favorite is the proposition that Chinese sailors might have visited South America well before any European explorers. If you enjoy stories of man against nature, like Shackleton's Endurance, you'll probably like this incredible tale.

5 out of 5 stars It just keeps getting better.......2002-03-28

I am in the midst of reading the Incredible Voyage and it just keeps getting better and better. Just when I think that Jones has had an adventure which just can not be topped, he immediately has an even more amazing exploit. This book never goes downhill. I am fascinated by his practical ethnology and insights into what makes indigenous cultures tick; along with the similarities that bind the human family together. Combine this with Jones' historical sleuthing and this book leaves you speechless. Not being a sailor, I cannot vouch for his yachting expertise, but that he got managed to get a sailboat up on the Andes and down the world's highest lake speaks for itself. I only wish I had a sailboat berth and a cozy gas lantern to read it by.

4 out of 5 stars dated, but still powerful.......2004-05-10

It seems like so long ago now, the conflict in Central America of the 1980s. Not only was it viewed as a peripheral Cold War conflict, which encouraged the US to support notoriously corrupt and brutal regimes, but it was also a series of extremely complex dynamics in small sovereign nations that virtually no one knew much about. El Salvador, along with Guatamala and pre-Sandinista Nicaragua, was one of the worst countries "down there."

This book offers an intimate portrait of a gathering revolution, cataloguing the injustices and casual brutalites in a frightening indictment. The bottom line is that a layer of evil people simply must be swept away and the US has no business standing in the way of it. In other words, it is the classic argument for "indiginous revolution," dismissing the claims of cold warriors that the revolutionaries are communists supported by Moscow, etc. While this is only of historical interest, it is a useful case study of misguided policy, which we would do well to study today.

The stories in the book are truly horrible. One young army officer, for example, raped a young aristocrat but was let off from prosecution because he appeared "promising." As scary as they are, I have since discovered that some of them are inaccurate. For example, the future president of El Salvador, whose name I think was Napoleon Duarte, was reported to have been tortured and that the tips of his fingers on one hand were cut off during interrogation. It turns out that he lost them as a construction worker. This diminishes the credibility of the book somewhat, but it is still very powerful.

Recommended for a look at the COld War mentality and as a guide to the self-deception that can go on in Washington DC.

When the property to the south of Rudolph M. Schindler's historic house and studio on Kings Road in Los Angeles was sold to the developer of a 3-story, 18-unit condominium complex, a question urgently emerged: How does one build next to the Schindler House? To incite the exchange of ideas on the Schindler House problem, the MAK Center at the Schindler House initiated an architectural invitational in which architects were asked to envision a companion to Schindler's masterwork. Juried by a distinguished international panel, entries were solicited from a roster of both established and young architects. Proposals were contributed by architect teams COOP HIMMEL(B)LAU, Vienna, Christophe Cornubert, PUSH, Los Angeles, Eichinger oder Knechtl, Vienna, Peter Eisenman, New York, Andrea Lenardin-Madden, Los Angeles, Durfee/Regn, Los Angeles, Gnther Domenig, Graz, Eric Owen Moss, Los Angeles, Dominique Perrault, Paris, Odile Decq + Benoit Cornette, Paris, Zaha Hadid, London, Georg Driendl, Vienna, Michael Rotondi, Los Angeles, Klaus Stattmann, Vienna, Sandrine von Klot, Vienna, Lebbeus Woods, New York, Bernhard Sommer, Vienna, Mark Mack, Los Angeles, Umbrella Organization, Los Angeles, and The Next Enterprise, Vienna. 5 out of 5 stars Excellent Start.......2007-08-21

Writing from 30+ years of leadership experience, Dave writes from his heart and holds nothing back.. But then lets the reader come to his own conclusions. "Beyond the Resistance: Learning to Face Adversity", In my opinion, is a great starter book to get hooked into Dave's addictive writing style and teachings. This is the first in his "Intimate Warrior" series. With a start and a following like this I am very excited to see what will be in the next several books.

                  Book Description

Based on more than one hundred interviews and group discussions with low-ranking soldiers, conscripts, and volunteers, this volume provides a unique perspective on the history, and analyzes the current status, of soldier unions and resistance movements in more than twenty countries. Beginning with the isolated, spontaneous incidents that characterized military protest in the mid-1960s, the study traces the changing profile of resistance movements in the conscript armies of Europe; the volunteer forces of the United States, Great Britain, Canada, and Australia; and the armed forces of Portugal, Chile, Iran, and the Phillipines. From the information and data collected, David Cortright and Max Watts hypothesize that resistance among low-ranking soldiers occurs only in countries with a high degree of capital accumulation, a new concept they refer to as the Threshold Theory of Military Resistance. Support for the Threshold Theory is based on data extracted from in-depth descriptions of the origins and organization of military unions and protest movements in Holland, West Germany, Scandinavia, France, Italy, Spain, East Germany, and the Soviet Union, as well as in countries "below the threshold." A detailed examination of the United States army's resistance activities after the Vietnam conflict, its attempted unionization, and its continuing struggle with lack of discipline and low morale completes the global scope of this work. It will offer military sociologists, scholars, social scientists, soldiers, and veterans a singular survey of the dynamics of protest within the military around the world.

                  5 out of 5 stars Searing Analysis.......2002-11-30

A searing analysis of what the factors are that bring about dissent and organizing within the military. An unusual work,
but highly readable. A serious attempt to study the phenomena
of progressive dissent within the militaries of several nations in the mid to late 20th century. This book is difficult to find, but a rare treasure for scholars of the military.

                          Book Description

Art Nouveau Abstract Designs in our International Design Library series presents dozens of authentic designs taken from original sources and drawn in fine-line pen and ink by Rebecca McKillip, with an introduction giving the history of this fascinating style that flourished between 1880 and 1905.

The Art Nouveau period produced many stunning design motifs, but none more brilliantly realized than those of geometric inspiration. These abstract designs are complex and richly varied, and lend themselves to all kinds of adaptive uses, such as neelework, stencils, decoupage, wallpaper, woodblocks, etc.

This book is a nice source for clipart and ideas/inspiration, or even as a colouringbook. For anything else it is completely useless, just to have that said ;) Thin and cute and rather entertaining - a while. For being what it is, its a good book.
