Do you have short fingers? Then you may make decisions quickly, acting fast, but not always thinking things through. What about your heart line--is it deeply etched or does it split and tassel? Are your fingernails oval or almond shaped? For centuries people have been looking to their hands for guidance about the future. Palm Reading never claims that this ancient art can predict how much money you'll make or how many children you'll have, but it does contend that "your hand is a miniature map of the inner you." Each brief chapter--covering the hand, the fingers, and the lines of the palm--offers keys to unlocking the secrets held within your own hand. Artful, whimsical illustrations help readers figure out whether they have whorled fingerprints or spatulate fingertips. Bound to inspire hours of amusement and interest, this little book is a must for your next party--and it's small enough to carry in the palm of your hand.

A novelty.......2007-09-18
It is important to realize that this is not for people who want to learn palm reading. It is a novelty 1x1.5 inch book.
They werent kidding with "Little".......2007-08-23
It's a REALLY small book and covers most lines, but not all the info I was hoping for...cute to carry around as a quick guide though
I resent this book........2007-06-26
This book is so small... and useless. Its too useless to even give away. I resent it because I don't have the courage to throw it out. It was a gift. No one would buy it otherwise...unless they are taken by how small it is.
Palm Sized Book with a Decent Price.......2007-02-04
I learned during my college years that one of the quickest ways to build rapport with the opposite sex is through palm reading. The problem with this book is that it is so small that it is difficulat to read. The book's content is very limited and the publisher tried to make up for this by adding lots of pictures. Just because it is a book on palm reading doesn't mean that it has to be about the size of a palm. Considering that it is inexpensive, you may still want to buy it in order to find out if this is really a topic that you are interested in before spending money on more expensive books.
Palm sized book is too small to enjoy.......2007-01-03
This book is too small to really be "read" and instead functions more as an interesting little knick knack.
The size would have worked if the content was more pictoral or was at least presented visually in smaller "bites" of information, but instead you get chapters of dense text in a 3x3 size. Not too user friendly.
That said, his would be great as part of the *wrapping* of a present... If for example you were giving a themed gift, this could be part of the bow decoration.

Steve Kowit believes, and rightly so, that poetry should show, not tell. The same could be said for good teaching, which is what makes this volume so remarkable. In In the Palm of Your Hand Kowit employs more than 100 poems and excerpts to illustrate his discussions on everything from metaphor to meter to metaphysics. Working your way through this book--and it is work--is like sitting in on a terrific creative-writing seminar, minus the criticism (both constructive and destructive) of fellow students. If you go by the book, you'll have written at least 69 poems by the end. Because of its explication of the basic tenets of poetry, In the Palm of Your Hand might be mistaken for a beginners' book only. That would be a shame. There are so many good ideas here that more experienced poets won't want to miss out; Kowit has lots of exciting ways to invigorate one's writing. (Here's a favorite quick tip: "A good rule of thumb is never to use a word that you're proud of.") In the Palm of Your Hand is also recommended for members of writing groups who are interested in imposing some kind of structure on their meetings.
Book Description
An illuminating and invaluable guide for beginners wary of modern poetry, as well as for more advanced students who want to sharpen their craft and write poems that expand their technical skills, excite their imaginations, and engage their deepest memories and concerns. Ideal for teachers who have been searching for a way to inspire students with a love for writing--and reading--contemporary poetry.

Do you think you know something about Poetry?.......2007-08-07
As I started to read this book, I thought I had a pretty good idea about poetry. I was totally wrong. I knew nothing at all. In the foreword to this book Dorianne Laux writes:"I was lucky. And now you can be lucky too". I thought that it sounded promising, but then I did not think more about it. As I started reading and after just a couple of pages, I understood what Dorianne Laux meant. If you hold this book in your hand and if you are prepared to discover what Steve Kowit has to show you about the world of poetry - then you are truly lucky. As the title says, you hold the Poetry in the Palm of Your Hand. Go for it!
Vaguely pedestrian.......2006-10-13
I chose this book because of the glowing reviews. I was disappointed. I expected a discussion of the nature of poetry and how it is constructed. What I got was "A process for recovering memories" (Recall a pleasant time in the past., Recall a building in which you once lived., etc.)
I gave this book one star because some of the critiques of the ibcluded poems were interesting although the choices of poems was not. Knowing what I now know, I would pass on this book.
it's this poet's companion.......2006-09-20
Since 1996, I have kept this book handy on my nightstand and carried it with me on every vacation I take, just to make sure it is accessible when I am ready to learn more about reading poetry, to improve my writing of poetry, to give myself assignments for writing, or just to read and re-read some of the beautiful samples included inside. I have and have utilized a number of "poetry handbooks," but find this one the best. It is just a great book for anyone interested in poetry from any angle. It is also helpful for discovering new poets, too, as the samples included are drawn from a wide body of authors.
Need a Portable Poet Workshop? Here it is!!!!.......2006-04-08
Don't have the funds for a Poetry Workshop but want to improve your writing? Here it is! This is a wonderful book. It contains tons of exercises, practices and methods of improving your work! I highly recommend it!
It is so great that I want to keep writing!.......2006-03-22
This book came to me as an excersize work book. I started it and realized that he was reaching a goal with the way he handled the teachings.
I stuck to each and every lesson and poem assignment. If it meant research, I took a trip to the library. I would put my mind, body and soul into what I would put on paper. My old poems were redone to boot. My friends saw my revised poems and went "Oh WOW! And this is from the studies from this book?"
I highly suggest any poet, beginner, intermediate or advanced, to do read this book. It was from my open-mindedness and my perserverance to do each exercise with ferver.
Book Description
Palmistry is the ancient science of reading an individual's hands in order to gain an insight into their life. A fascinating and precise art, the reading of palms has enthralled many cultures for centuries. The Palmistry Workbook provides a fascinating overview of palm reading including the history of palmistry, the meaning of the individual lines on your hand, the symbolism of your hand shape and the significance of the thumb. The Palmistry Workbook also explores the connections between the naming of the lines and mounts on the hands with Greek and Roman mythology, astrology, and the planets. Illustrated throughout, this book is appropriate for beginners but also rich enough for devotees wishing to expand their knowledge of this fascinating subject.

Palm Reading Certification.......2006-12-23
Being in the IT/Networking field, I have taken a few certification test. This book kinda reminds me of a Sybex cert manual due to the end of chapter questions and review. Everything you need to know about palm reading is here. From the mounts, to the lines (both primary and secondary), to the history of palmistry, to hand shapes...its all here and very detailed. Its almost as if the author intended for this book to be used to train professional palmist or to pass the CompTIA "Palm+ certification".
I bought this book for 3 reason.
1. Learn a fun new skill.
2. Become more interesting (how many people do you know that can read palms?)
3. Meet people (particularly the ladies ; )...you get to hold their hand, tell them about themselves, flirt, and have a great conversation about their favorite topic...THEM!)
Ok ok. The 3rd is the biggest reason why I bought this one : D
The book also is wonderfully laid out. It first goes over the hand shapes which gives you a general sense of the person. Then it goes into the primary lines such as the heart, life, and fate just to name a few. Then comes the secondary lines which interact with the primary lines. Then it goes into particular readings such as if someone were to ask you about obtaining true love...then you would read for love or wealth or longevity. Lastly it gives a few sample readings which are vastly different from each other and gives you a good sense of what to look for.
Not trying to sound racist, but my only complaint is that I wish it would have shown a dark complectioned hand as they are harder to read and had color photographs of the hands so that you can see the tone of skin, which as pointed out in the book to be used as an indicator for current mood or health, which would also very vastly from the color of white skin to dark skin.
If your like me and interest in my 3rd reason for buying this book, then you should also checkout something known as reflexology and learn about pressure points of the hands and other parts of the body. This means you get to naturally move from the hands to touching other parts of the body. The right touching can be a big turn on for most ladies. This book is a hit at parties and people just come up to me and I get to have a conversation with them. Its great!
Get this book. Study for the "Palm+ cert". Impress your friends. Make new friends. And most importantly...have fun!
Quality Book.......2006-03-27
After ordering the workbook for runes from the same company, I decided to try their palmistry book. I found this book to be so much easier to use than my other palmistry books. It's broken down into easy to learn sections, with helpful points at the end of the chapters. I was very pleased with the sample readings being done from photo copies, as I have been working a lot with photo copies of my friends' hands. The physical quality of the book is also superior. The pages are thick, vivid, and the cover is thick with flaps on either side that help with place marking. My other palmistry books have been shelved, this one is out and in use.
One of the Best books out on Palmistry.......2005-07-23
This book is well thought out and explained. The art of palmistry is often complicated to explain, but this book takes the reader through it step by step. In being a palmist myself there is little criticism I can find in this excellent book.
Excellent Book.......2004-08-12
I'm very impressed with this book. It's very easy to read and the information given is just unbelievably accurate for the most part. It also contains some helpful pictures to help readers understand the materials explained. The materials are divided into different sections (i.e a section for thumb, another for fingers, as well as different sections for your life line, health line, fate line, head line, marriage line, etc...). The author did a great job in presenting the material and making it very easy to learn. You will have a lot of fun with this book...I know I did.

Real Women, Real Solutions.......2007-10-04
The great thing about "Survival Tips for Women with AD/HD" is that it's a handy reference guide for and by real women with AD/HD. Having organization issues? Laundry getting you down? Just flip to the chapter and subheading (clearly identified in the Table of Contents) to quickly look up tips and strategies that work for other women.
Terry Matlen does a great job of keeping the book light-hearted and positive while still covering tons of challenges that women with AD/HD experience. Keep "Survival Tips" close by and make good use of it!

How to organize the disorganized.......2007-06-10
This book is a great help for those of us who are organize challenged. The tabs in the book seperate different issues so you do not have to keep earmarking pages or putting in post its. It was so helpful to me, my therapist asked to borrow the book so she could read it and recommend it to other patients.
Tips--like title.......2007-05-13
I expected a more cohesive book on survival, so I was really disappointed at first. But there are some really good tips here. They are somewhat random, but are like "best advice" from women living with ADHD.
Great resource.......2007-05-11
I have found lots of great suggestions in this book. I like reading about what has worked for other women with ADD. My favorite came from a professional coach quoted in the book. It's called "5 Easy Things." Basically, you pick 5 easy things to do and just do them. For instance, my kitchen table is piled so high with mail, we don't eat there. Every time I pass the table now, I pick out 5 piece of mail that I know I can toss without thinking about them too much. Or, if I see something that can be put away, I do that.
Some reviewers have complained that the book isn't well-organized. I think it's perfect for me. It's not meant to be read in order (which is good, cuz I rarely read that way!). This book is about TIPS, so if that's what you'll need, you'll find them here!
Good for people without ADD?.......2007-01-29
Like a few of the reviewers have already mentioned, I thought that the book would be spiral bound with tabs. It's not - it's just a paperback book.
1. The author wrote very little and mostly compiled suggestions from women with ADD.
2. There are too many chapters to keep track of.
3. The suggestions are vaguely grouped, but not particularly well. There are a number of repeat suggestions. I had to take notes outside the book or I'd never be able to find the useful hints.
Like most of the women-oriented ADD books, the "women" oriented material is really "mother" or "home-maker" material. This is particularly complicated by the fact that the quotes aren't organized at all, so I get suggestions about how many hours a day I should spend cleaning the various locations in my house when I only have 8 hours available outside of work. Plenty of women are mothers but plenty of women aren't.
Read "ADD-Friendly ways to Organize your Life" instead. It's *packed* with useful suggestions, and it's in a very ADD-friendly format. After that, you could try this book.
Book Description
Providing comprehensive information on care and cultivation, as well as sound advice on determining perfect plant location, this reference profiles 99 palm and 17 cycad species. Plantlovers looking to add a tropical accent to the garden or wanting to invest in a low-maintenance houseplant will find plenty of guidance in this alphabetical guide to plants suited to a variety of climates and soil types. A special section also provides help with matching palm species to indoor and outdoor settings and features further brief entries on 85 palms and 18 cyad species, making it an extremely useful source book for gardeners, interiorscapers, and landscapers all over the world.
Book Description
This user-friendly and authoritative book will serve scientists, growers, and sightseers as a guide to the 67 genera and 550 species of naturally occurring palms found in the Americas. Its purpose is to give an introduction to the diversity of palms and allow almost anyone to identify a palm from this part of the world. Providing scientifically accurate descriptions and a rich supply of illustrations, including color photos taken in the wild of over 256 species, this guide is extraordinary in its coverage of the plant that has become for many people the symbol of the tropical landscape.
Palms are not only aesthetically pleasing, but they also make up an economically and ecologically important family of plants. In industry, for example, the coconut, oil palm, and date palm have a wide and varied use. In the lowland rain forest, palms are usually one of the most abundant and diverse families of plants. Field Guide to the Palms of the Americas will appeal to professional scientists or students working in the tropics-including agronomists, anthropologists, ecologists, entomologists, natural historians, and zoologists-as well as to amateur and professional growers of palms, to "eco-tourists" who visit tropical regions, and to inhabitants of these regions who are interested in the native flora.

The American palm compendium.......2005-11-16
Palms are a very conspicuous feature of the tropical landscape, whether in the wilds of Central and South America or in the suburban environments further north. They are also important economically (usually as fruit crops) and culturally (having uses as diverse as roofing, as material for weaving hammocks as fodder for edible beetle larvae!). Since everyone knows what a palm is, yet most non-specialists cannot get much beyond that, this guide to their identification should fill a niche.
This is a field guide to the 550 species of palm occurring naturally in the American tropics. The taxonomic treatment seems to this non-specialist to be eminently sensible and many knotty systematic probems appear to have been carefully resolved. A 40 page appendix of accepted names helps clarify what has happened to some of the older synonyms, hybrid names and such.
The authors have crammed an awful lot of new and useful information into the three-hundred and fifty odd pages. A main key permits identification to genera with further keys sprinkled throughout the body of the book. There are handy introductions to families and genera. The text is succinct and well oriented towards field identification while the 236 photographs at the back allow the user to quickly narrow down the search by visual means. Maps are provided for every species - this must have been a huge task! - and country checklists provide a further tool for homing in on the plant in question.
In resume, this is a master work which will be seen in the field for decades to come. It should be high on the list of any tropical landscape gardener, horticulturalist, anthropologist, botanist or naturalist.
a must have.......2005-10-07
if you're interested in neotropical palms, you ought to buy this excellent guide. all three authors are considered to be highly esteemed authorities who know their stuff very well. the description said it had approximately 380 pages, but together with all the appendices and photo pages, the total number of pages gets to 500.
A must for all palm enthusiasts.......1999-12-16
Overall it would say that it 's the excellent job that authors has put together all the description of American palm species. It would be welcome among serious palm collectors as well as reserchers.
The only thing I don't like about this book and I think it is controversial among palm colleectors is that the book tends to lump down many named species into a synonymous for example, a genus Coccothrinax or the palms in the Attalea Group. Though not all of the recorded species are really distinct from each other, many of them are quite different and should be separately treated at least in a variety level i.e., genus Acrocomia which authors has lumped from 26 recorded species inot only 2 species. This is however not explicitly stated there at all.
A must have!.......1998-04-30
This is probably the most useful book for anyone involved in plant identification, such as Forest Engineers, specially those working in tropical America, where one often encounters many kinds of palms in the field, but until now it was not easy to identify them, and palms are mostly overlooked because they have the reputation of being difficult to identify. This book changes it all, and it's definitely a must-have.
There are two more authors for this book!!!.......1998-02-12
I use this book for field work, and it seems not fair that a book of three authors, appears as a one-author book, I know the other two people and they are scientist and work in the palms (Arecaceae) as well as Mr Henderson.

Handheld organizers rapidly are becoming more important than the PC as a computing device, in large part due to the popularity of the PalmPilot. True, the beauty of these devices--aside from their portability--is that they're easy to use. Nonetheless, you still could use a guide to show you how to get the most out of them--and this is a good one.
The book keeps its focus on organizers that run on the Palm OS. Although this obviously includes the various PalmPilot models, it also covers the Handspring Visor, the IBM WorkPad, and the TRGPro. Author Jeff Carlson could've done a better job of delineating the subtle differences between these devices, as How to Do Everything with Your Palm Handheld did. But he does a good job of providing detailed usability and productivity tips, such as how to improve the accuracy of the Palm OS Graffiti handwriting recognition tool.
Given the ascendancy of wireless Internet access, Palm Organizers Visual QuickStart Guide devotes sufficient space to a discussion of the Internet features of the Palm VII, including a brief rundown of the wireless modems currently available. And all PalmPilot users should read the chapter on security, given that most people store sensitive contact information in their organizers.
Just because you've mastered the basics of entering names and addresses into your Palm organizer doesn't mean you're getting the most out of it. Palm Organizers Visual QuickStart Guide will help you maximize your productivity. --John Frederick Moore

New 4th Edition Now Available.......2004-12-15
Jeff Carlson here. I want to point out that a new 4th edition of the book is now out, but Amazon's search engine doesn't always bring it up (this was a problem with the 3rd edition, too). Look for ISBN #0321287665.

Up-to-date complete reference.......2004-11-18
This is a complete reference for PalmOS PDAs. The form is a step-by-step walkthrough of each function. Each page is cut in half with text on one side explaining the screenshots on the other side of the page. The chapters go through each function from managing contacts, using the calendar, reading and writing email, to surfing the web and synchronizing with your Mac or Windows box. This is very thorough and up-to-date book for Palm users who like the step-by-step approach that is thick with screenshots.
Palm Organizers Visual QuickStart Guide.......2000-08-24
This is an excellent book that will transform the reader from novice to near-power user. The author details the product offerings, basic features, more advanced features, and third party offerings that increase the value of the Palm. With this book as a primer, I knew exactly what I was doing when I first picked up a Palm.
I scanned the Palm For Dummies book before settling on this book. In my opinion, the Dummies book was comparatively confusing and overly brief.
Great training resource for Palm OS devices.......2000-08-19
I work in a customer service organization which provides training and online support for Palm OS devices. In my opinion, this book is the best hands-on learning tool you can buy for Palm OS devices; it is a ready-made course on Palm OS Organizers and how they interact with your computer & wireless networks. The book does a great job making the material helpful for both geeks and newbies. It has a great format: 50% visual and 50% text. It differentiates the Palm OS variants very clearly and it presents lots of numbered step-by-step instructions which can be used to describe procedures to clients on the phone. The O'Reilly series of books are good but do not cover all the newer devices and OS variants (Tungsten, Zire, Treo and older handhelds).

Covers more of Florida than competing guides.......2000-04-12
The most useful aspect of the Fodor's Guide for Miamai and the Keys when compared to other guidebooks is that this book covers the areas north of Miami, all the way up the Atlantic coast to Sebastian. My past few trips to Florida have been to Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach and Vero Beach as well as Miami and the Keys. It's nice to have the basic information in one place.
However, I always feel that Fodor's guidebooks tend to be a little superficial. The last five or six I've read haven't included the hotels I've stayed at (for example a Hyatt that has been open for at least ten years). I also don't care for the type of paper stock that Fodors uses. I like to take a highlighter to my guidebooks and you can't use them on this paper because it bleeds through the pages. I will continue my quest for the perfect guidebook!
great itineraries.......1999-06-05
Great places to stay in Key West. Never disappointed...however, it forgot to mention the great cuban coffee, cafe con leche, that Frommer's went into detail with and had mentioned as a must have. Great restaurant's, esp. the cuban ones.
