Book Description
This laboratory guidebook provides step-by-step procedures that will aid in the dissection and collection of major organs and tissues of the most common species of small animals used in biomedical research. Through extensive use of photographs and illustrations, the dissector is guided through a complete necropsy of each species for the purpose of collecting the organs and tissues routinely examined by pathologists. The techniques described will enable the technician to perform necropsies on almost any mammal in a precise and logical sequence, and to properly collect tissue in order to avoid diagnostic errors. Morphological differences among the various species are discussed.

Manual of clinical procedures in the dog, cat & rabbit.......2007-10-14
This book was required by my teacher for class.
Their is a small section for rabbits. It includes restraint, and selected clinical procedures ( intravenous catheterization, bandaging the catheter for fluid adminstration, blood collection from jugular catheter, oral adminstration of liquid medication/tablet, intravenous injection, urine collection, & endotracheal tube intabation).
Most of the book is dedicated to the dog & cat. The sections include chapters on restraint, blood collection, injection techniques, placement and care of IV caths, oral adminstration of medications, dermatologic procedures, impression preparations, fine needle aspiration biopsy, ophthalmic procedures, ear care, pedicure, urethral catheterization, rectal exam, anal sac expression and cannulation, enema, skin prep., intubation, gastric lavage, dental prophylaxis, nasopharyngeal procedures, teansteacheal aspiration, centesis, peritoneal cath. & lavage, semen collection and insemination, vaginal exam and speciman collection, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, rapid evaluation of bleeding and clotting disorders. I only gave a 4 because the book has no actual photographs, just illustrations and they are black and white. I work with cats and I think some of the cat restraint techniques are way off. Otherwise the book is great!
GREAT TO VET.TECHNICIAN!!.......2000-08-04
I'm a freshman in veterinary medical college. And I go to my seniors' animal hospital every weekend for studying and assitanting them. Before I assitant them, I had to know about treating animals with the right way. Then my seniors gave this book to me. I think this book is very good for Vet.technician. This book is really detailed for every part of the way of treating pets. I am sure that this book will be helpful to you, veterinary technician or a student often doing assistance in hospital just like me. But i am sure it will not help any junior or senior studying veterinary medicine.
A worthy effort.......2000-06-05
This book reveals a good intent that fell slightly short. The authors evidently know their stuff very well and describe many procedures with meticulousness. However, necessary details are missing on ocassion, like where to locate the vessel they recommend to inject. The illustations are satisfactory but sometimes insufficient. One wonders whether photographs could have been better in these cases. I missed some procedures that are common in veterinary clinics today like x-rays and some small surgery techniques that are common in a clinical setting. For examaple, I would have liked to find some pointers on how to operate an x-ray machine. The book is very useful and well worth buying it, but the authors could make it even better if they surveyed the needs of their colleagues before attempting the next edition.
Manual of Clinical Procedures on the Dog, Cat and Rabbit.......1999-11-26
I am a director of a veterinary technology program and this is a required text. It outlines the "how-to-do" of procedures as simple as cephalic venipuncture to complicated procedures such as gastrotomy tube placement. The value of this book lies in the fact that it lists every supply or piece of equipment you will need to perform a procedure and then walks you through it step by step. The illustrations are awesome. This book would be a valuable reference for a practitioner or technician who wants to perform a procedure for the first time or needs a refresher on the procedure. The inclusion of rabbits to this edition is a welcome addition as it outlines procedures likely performed in practice.

A Study Aide, not a Dissection Aide..........1999-09-17
Although the book has some decent descriptions of the anatomy of the rabbit, it doesn't have a single photograph of a dissection. The entire book was comprised of black and white drawings and sketches, which was totally disappointing. This is not the book you want to buy as a dissection aide, although it does have some nice tables and charts for muscle and nerve function, which would better serve as a study aide.

The Biology and Medicine of Rabbits and Rodents.......2000-01-10
The purpose is to provide lab professionals with the advice on the maintenance of rabbits and rodents, concerning their care and health. It covers rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, gerbil, mouse and rat. Even though it is intended for *experts*, the book is relatively easy to read and is very thorough starting with the general husbandry and biology, followed by clinical procedures, sign of disease, diagnoses and listing specific diseases and conditions from A-Z. It lists the hosts for the disease, etiology, transmission, predisposing factors, clinical signs, necropsy signs, diagnosis, prevention, effect on research and public health significance. The last chapter has self test with case reports.
Even though this is not an *exotic pet rodent* book, it is a great reference book for any rabbit or rodent pet owner, since most diseases occur in pets as well as in laboratory animals. A nice middle ground between serious technical veterinary books and the common photo pet shop books.

Customer Reviews:
This is a great book! Take on your Maui trip!.......2007-04-09
This book and Maui Revealed are my favorite. The variety and detail of the maps and narative are very exellent. Lots of overall info about Maui in a well put together format. Nice compact size that will fit in your carry on. Get it!
Good information but overall it's stale.......2006-01-07
My main gripe is with the updated changes. Comparing the old and new versions I see that a few pages were plugged in but nothing major was added. If you're thinking of buying this book save some money and buy it used.
An excellent and handy guide for travelers and tourists.......2005-11-08
Maui is the Lonely Planet travel guide to the Hawaiian island of Maui, known for its sea turtles, waterfalls, and hikes along the ancient Haleakala volcano. An island paradise filled with opportunities for windsurfing, snorkeling, diving, surfing, cycling, and just relaxing, Maui is a beautiful land; chapters in Lonely Planet's Maui include a brief summary of the island's history and culture, sample itineraries, a wealth of maps with off-track detours, recommended places to go divided by region upon the island, local hazards to avoid or prepare for, and much more. An excellent and handy guide for travelers and tourists.
Not bad, not great.......2005-05-18
Some useful details and guides, but overall it lacks the fine detail I was looking for. It seemed to gloss over some great places, and give unecessary information about some pretty bland things. It would be a decent addition to other books about Maui.
Okay.......2004-02-13
The basics were were here but it didn't bite off what Lonely Planet usually is famous for. Pretty bland coverage for such a colourful place.
