Customer Reviews:
An excellent reference for your nature walks through unfamiliar territory.......2007-04-20
This book is an excellent reference book for the nature lover who isn't up to speed regarding the particulars. For each tree, there is a blowup photo of the leaves, a smaller one of the bark and a black and white sketch of the general appearance of the tree from a distance. There is also the English and scientific names and some textual explanation of the tree. This explanation is a paragraph description of the appearance, a paragraph on how to identify it and one sentence descriptions of the habitat and geographical range where it is found.
A great introduction for kids.......2006-11-11
Ok, this isn't the full blown Audubon Tree book(s), but at this price, what do you expect?
This and all the Pocket Guides are great stocking stuffers for kids, especially for those blessed with parents who think getting the latest Gameboy or Hero Clix is more important (hint hint, you know who you are).
As they get older, their interests will become more defined and you'll know what (more expensive/extensive) particular field guide(s) to buy them.
Yeah, it's cliche, but a child's mind *is* a terrible thing to waste.
I've bought all the Audubon Pocket guides more than once (kept a few for myself, yes they're that good) and I've only been disappointed with one (most of the photos were blurry). No, I won't say which one, as it may not matter to someone else (but I'm picky about that kind of stuff).
Hand them out to your nieces and nephews, and any other kid that can't tell an oak from a pine tree or quartz from slate or Pleiades from Orion or ... well, you get the picture.
They've thanked me later on(and actually meant it, lol) and they'll thank you too.
Small enough to use while backpacking.......2006-08-30
I like these small Audubon books because they are light and easy to use. The pictures are clear and the information is easy to read and use. They aren't as detailed as the bigger Audubon books, but then the larger ones are heavier and in a back pack, being light weight is everything.
Disappointed.......2001-07-11
Bought this book to take on walks/hikes. The first time out I could not find anything on two out of the first four trees of which I was not familiar!! Very limited coverage of any trees other than those we all know from everyday experience---rather a disappointment!!
A Handy Informative Guide for Trees.......2000-03-29
I bought this book because I was tired of only being able to identify a handful of the most distinctive trees. This small, colorful and easy-to-use guide was a godsend. It it paperback and can easily fit into a breast pocket, yet the full-page color photos of leaf shapes and sizes are adequate - even for a novice like me - to identify trees. It shows tree silhouettes, bark types and leaves and explains about various tree families to help us all be able to distinguish the trees from the proverbial forest! The information, organization and size of this book make it a "strong-buy" for anyone with an interest in "knowing" trees better!

Handy little book.......2006-08-30
This book is so easy to carry in a pocket or backpack. The pictures are vivid and the information is easy to read. I use it all the time and find it to be very useful.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Travel Resource.......2007-01-07
This guide was indespensible throughout the travel in Copenhagen and vicinity. Great attention to detail and precise and timely information made it a great asset as a travel guide. Additionally, information on excursions to Sweden and the island of Zealand made this guide a "must-have" when in Denmark.
"Yuppie Guide".......2005-04-04
As with the only other Sally O'Brian authored-guide that I've used (for Sydney, Australia), this guide leaves much to be desired. Concentrating on trendy hotels, restaurants and bars, this guide gives short shrift to the sights, museums and history of Copenhagen. This guide also dispenses with the section on "Getting There", "Getting Around", and such that used to make Lonely Planets the most useful guide out there. This is more like a Fodors for the pretentious than a good guide to Copenhagen.
If this is the new format, I fear for the Lonely Planet series. One would be better off with a "Let's-Go"

Reliable guide to an exciting city!.......2001-10-18
This book was extremely informative, all information is clear and concise and was easy to navigate through.
We wanted an easy to use, novice guide on what to do/where to go/what to see/where & what to eat etc. for a short break in the city and this book told us everything we wanted to know & more.
This helped us to plan a full itinerary for our trip prior to us arriving - and therefore, helped us to not waste a minute of our precious holiday time!
Have nothing really bad to say about the publication - it is well written, interesting & informative; without being too detailed/long-winded.
Would appeal greatly to music lovers - as it has a special section devoted to the famous Jazz Festival.

A gripping narrative of the defeats and narrow victories that won the State's independence from the English crown.
Customer Reviews:
Readable history.......2005-07-25
This is a good book for those of us who remember only slightly the history of the American Revolution from high school or college. It's highly readable, informative and, if you're an American, even inspirational. It's history that has been made enjoyable to read.

There's absolutely NOTHING new here, and it is based only on secondary sources. Folks should read Middlekauf's GLORIOUS CAUSE instead, and leave this one on the shelves.

Great book!.......2005-06-14
You might have to search a bit for this book but it is worth it. If your only knowledge of General Cornwallis is from meager US history classes or worse, the movie The Patriot, then you are in for a pleasant suprise.
Gen Cornwallis was a soldiers soldier. He shared all the same sufferings of his men. And while a loyal soldier of the crown he actually sympathized with the americans on many of their complaints prior to the war breaking out.
I strongly recommend this book!
Rare look at Lord Cornwallis.......2003-04-28
There are not that many books on General Lord Cornwallis out there on the market, but this is the best one I've read on him. It not only presents Cornwallis, but it also covers a few other British officers as well as American officers. It also covers the rtevolutionary war in good detail. Overall it is a really good book.
