Here is another one for my short list of horticulture references.
As someone who makes a living looking at these diseases, let me tell you: The photos are top notch! The pictures alone tell the bulk of the story and really make this book worth it. All the latest diseases are here including Sudden Oak Death. A text like this could easily be beyond the understanding of most gardeners, but the authors use an excellent mix of common and scientific names and a wealth of descriptive text to bring things back to earth. Be a little careful making a field diagnosis from just the photos. A quick look through the book, especially the last section on physical and environmental damage, will demonstrate that a lot of things look alike.
An included CD contains a complete reference list in a 333 page Word document, but nothing else. This is very useful if you are looking for more information or a specific cross-reference.
My ONLY complaint is that the plants and diseases are combined into one index rather then two like the similar book "Insects that feed on Trees and Shrubs".
A comprehensive study of diseases and their (mis) diagnosis.......1998-08-24
This book compiles a GREAT deal of useful information about plant pathology. It covers, as any good work about plant disease should, fertilization, nutritional deficiencies, and environmental factors such as drought, freezing, lightning, air pollution, water contamination etc. before attempting to fix the problem, the work stresses the causal effects and ,similarly, the visual pitfalls that may provide evidence of an unseen insect symptom (galling, nematodes, etc.) The work was written mainly for the temperate zone, but using it in my home sub-tropics was an eye-opener! Reccomended reading for Horticulturalists in the upper echelon, or for Pathologists as a reference, and a reminder to look to the outlying areas for an answer, It's always there!

Depends on the use.......2007-05-30
My sister is moving there and it has everything you need as far as bus routes, prices, restaurants, and the listings are mostly price oriented such as least expensive to top dollar and includes a ton of phone numbers. Not so much history or mountains to climb but it can plan your trip for you all around the island whether a week trip or more.
Frommer's Book of Lies.......2006-08-12
We just returned from visiting Oahu in August 2006. We found that the "new edition" is at least 3 years out of date. It is clear that the author has not set foot on Oahu or visited Waikiki in quite a while as many of her resturant picks have changed hands, hotels don't offer services listed and the parks have all changed prices and hours of operation. We laughingly called it "The Book of Lies," for its inept and incorrect information. You would be better off seeking information from the local cabbies and street vendors. Find another book and use this one for compost.
branching out.......2006-07-04
For the real basics, I give this book a five. Come in November when the crowds thin out. I've given this book alot of stars because it's a good hotel finder along with hotels.com. Even if you're not thinking of leaving the Honolulu area, you should also have the guide Oahu Trailblazer with you. It takes on what Fromer's leaves out and delivers a complete tour of the whole island. Who knows, once you get here you might get the urge to venture beyond Waikiki. Take the drive to Kahuku and sample some of the shrimp.
A good, basic guide for a first-time visitor.......2004-11-04
My husband and I bought this book for a recent vacation, and we found it very helpful. We used it to tool around the island in a rented car, see the sights in the Waikiki area, and snoop around Chinatown. It gives a good, broad overview to first-time visitors that will help you prioritize what you want to see on the island.
A few caveats - driving directions to Lanikai Beach are a bit lacking in this guide; fare for TheBus is now $2 per person, not $1.50; and the Lyon Arboretum was closed uring our visit. Sin of omission - Wo Fat's restaurant in Chinatown is a great dim sum place, but is not included in the guide. As always, call to check on guidebook facts before venturing out. Other than a few discrepancies such as this, we found the book to be fairly accurate and very informative.
Easy going vacation.......2004-10-18
I found this book made everything easy to find. Our daughter's wedding was our excuse to visit Oahu for the first time. Frommers made it easy to play tourist and wind our way through the streets of Honolulu without a hitch. Paid for itself many times over for its restaurant ratings alone. I personally give it high high marks for accuracy.

First trip to Hawaii.......2000-11-11
We have just returned to the mainland from our first ever trip to Hawaii. We stayed at a wonderful B & B on Oahu, where we found the Frommer's guide to Honolulu, Waikiki and Oahu along with many other guide books, but we found it to be the best. This book was a fabulous guide, with all the maps and notes of places to go and things to see. We used it like a bible. It helped to make our trip very memorable.

This book is a great combination of creativity and information. Kids are smart and this book does not insult their intelligence. The activities are varied and utilize a number of different skills. There really are exciting activities for each and every child out there. Additionally, the activities are fact-based, so while a child is connecting the dots, he/she is also learning a little piece of history. It's a great addition to your child's collection.

I absolutely loved the Felix Activity Book. I shared it with family members both young and old and with my third and fourth grade students. It exposed children to wordly things that they may not normally have been exposed to until adult age. My students felt like they were actually traveling around the world. They were taking in sites, learning about currency, customs, cutlures... My students got so excited each time I took the activity book out of my closest. They would ask me...Where are we going today???? We can't wait for another edition!!!

This is a great book of sources for freelance projects. It has interesting articles and tons of people to contact. You do need to read through carefully to pick publishers who are more likely to need your services.

Don't Waste your money........2007-06-21
Don't waste your money. As an art-rep I think this book is depressing and does not give a complete view of the choices that artists have. I found many mistypes and I believe that their sources are not a good spread of the market. My advice is to get it from the library and explore your options on the web. Just like anything start at the bottom, be nice, willing to learn, and stick to it. It is possible to make it.
