Lovely Hikes.......2003-11-05
Most of the hikes in this book are simple hikes as well, so it is great if you have children with you. The book also serves as a reference guide for the different flowers you will see on your hike. The book shows the best time of year to hike the particular trails in correspondence with when the flowers are in bloom. Nice book to have on hand.
Great book for Wildflower Hikes.......2000-03-08
I've taken a number of the hikes in this book and been very pleased. Very useful for wildflower photogs or anyone who enjoys nature. Directions and descriptions are easy to follow and accurate.
Great summary of good hikes just outside of Denver.......1999-08-09

Lonely Planet Montreal.......2007-06-03
I spent a month in Montreal to study French and used this book to explore the city. It lead me to some cool places that I would not have found otherwise and gave me good insight into the neighborhoods. By going to the recommended bagel shops, I discovered Mile End, my favorite place in the city. I also found the recommended breweries to be worthwhile. Overall this was worth the money.
Disappointing.......2007-01-17
This book is very poorly organized, the "French dictionary" contained no useful phrases, and the maps were terrible!! I would definitely choose something more comprehensive & buy a separate city map.
good, but could've been much better.......2005-06-17
i picked this book out of the ones at the bookstore b/c i liked the look of it: good number of pictures, good maps (inc. a map of the metro which most other books didn't seem to have), good info. -however-, a huge drawback to this book is its poor organization. if you're looking at one of the street maps in the book, the landmarks, etc. aren't marked by page number, so you have to look up the landmark in the index (which they have separated into food, accomodations, sites instead of all together, which proved to be very annoying), and then flip back to the page in the book. also, the book is organized again according to categories (food, sites, shopping, etc.) instead of by area, so if you're trying to build a list of things to do in one part of the city you have to keep flipping back and forth from the maps to the indices to the book, which is a huge effort that could've been fixed w/ better planning. this is really too bad, b/c o/w it has a lot of good info. next time i'm def. getting a book by a diff. company.
another good Lonely Planet guidebook.......2002-01-06
I used this guidebook while visiting Montreal in summer 2001 and had no problems at all. As to be expected from Lonely Planet, the color maps at the back are great and the three walking tours really give you a feel for the city. The restaurant list was excellent, especially an extended section on Montreal's famous bagels. There was a large chapter on excursions from Montreal, which included Ottawa, Quebec City and the Laurentian mountains among other places. All the standard Lonely Planet bits on history, culture, arts and religion were very informing; best was the little section on Canadian French where I learned to say "y'est quelle heure" instead of "quelle heure est-il."
The only complaint I could have was the lack of a map of the underground shopping city, which we found confusing to navigate, even with the map provided by the tourist authority. Otherwise it's as good a guidebook to Montreal as you're likely to find anywhere.

Customer Reviews:
Very helpful guide!.......2005-10-18
This travel guide was extremely helpful on my recent visit to Quebec City and the Saguenay region. We used many of the suggestions for restaurants and lodging and all were excellent. The author encourages the reader to try "whale watching" from the shoreline near Tadoussac and I was doubtful, but it's true - we saw whales from shore! My traveling companions originally thought that guidebooks were a waste of money, but they commented several times during our trip on how accurate and informative this guide was.
The reason why I buy Lonely planet Guides.......2004-08-11
Last year I had a conference/holiday trip to Quebec (City). I bought this guide and it made my life so much easier over there. The detailed maps of both Quebec City and the Quebec Region are a big help.
I used many of the recommendations in the book for sightseeing and tours. There are suggestions for the most popular places and also to get off the beaten track. Once I didn't follow the advice in the book, and it cost me extra money..... The guys have really checked out the place.
A perfect guide to Quebec.......2004-02-17
This book features many interesting information for travellers to the belle province. The information is well-organized and valuable. Even you are not visiting Quebec recently, it's still a great reference book to understand more about the unique province, from different point of view.

Great book.......2007-01-04
My daughter, who's 13, uses it for her classes. The contents are great, and the drawings and pictures excellent.
Customer Reviews:
Conscice with Good Pictures.......2000-02-09
Although this book has extremely good photos and charts, its actual content is limited. Coverage of specific events and battles is conscice. This shortcoming is slightly made up for in the book's appendicies which include a nice atlas, portfolio projects, histrical documents, and glossary. However, I recomend this book only for a general review of world history. It is useful as a suplement to other world history texts.

right version.......2007-09-05
there is no preview but it is the right version, so I will keep it.
Human History in Brief.......2001-05-01
This is one of the best book on global history, you can find every religion from east to west, north to south. You can read about all empires and kings, you can know all cultures and traditions. There is no other book which have reviewed and presented true picture of three major religions; Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Book Review.......2000-10-17
The book was not the best textbook.....there is no study guide
Pounds and Education.......1999-08-27
My daughter have to carry tree of these size books. Her school bag is 18 lbs. Why not divide all of these schoolbooks on two parts and make our kids happy. I believe school (elementary, middle and high) is not military training base.

Book Description
A friendly, conversational look at what Calvinism has to say to the 21st century world, this book clears up some misconceptions about Calvinism and shows Calvinists how to live gently and respectfully with Christians who disagree as well as with non-Christians who have no clue what TULIP means.
Customer Reviews:
Good stuff, but mostly junk........2007-06-30
It does a good work of defining Calvinism per ce, but it is no good at all. Its title and introduction are catchy, but once you are halfway there, you'll find out it is a waste of money.
It promotes ecumenism, and it even teaches that some non-Christians could be saved! Its concept of "Calvinism" is reminiscent of that old Holland-based Reformed-church kind of Calvinism, not our fundamentalist 5-point Calvinism.
Meditations on being a Calvinist in the 21st century.......2007-05-19
"Calvinism in the Las Vegas Airport" is a collection of meditations on what Calvinism is and on being a Calvinist in the 21st century. If you are looking for a thorough biblical defense of Calvinism try Loraine Boettner's "Reformed Doctrine of Predestination" (although there are some brief chapters on the basics of Calvinism in this book). What you will find between the covers of Dr. Mouw's little book on Calvinism is a thoughtful examination of how Calvinism affects (and how it should affect) the thinking and living of those who claim this label as their own. It is a warm, non-argumentative explanation of the strengths and weaknesses of an often misunderstood group of Christians who would rather err on the side of God's sovereign rule of the cosmos than allow that man's freedom trumps God's will.
Having grown up as a Wesleyan and finding my way to Calvinism during and after college I really resonate with Dr. Mouw who appears to have taken a similar journey. He struggles with the same issues I struggle with while maintaining that Calvinism makes the most sense in light of what the bible says and the evidence offered by life experience. This would have gotten a five except for some of Dr. Mouw's "hunches" about theological topics which he describes, but doesn't defend very well.
What ever your theological persuasion read this book to understand who Calvinists are and what you can learn from their teachings with the understanding that Dr. Mouw, and many other Calvinists like him (and me!), want to learn from you as well.
Calvinism in the Las Vegas Airport: Making Connections in Today's World .......2006-11-10
Richard Mouw writes in a personable and likable style, but his defense of Calvinism left me unconvinced. He seemed concerned to persuade the reader that Calvinists are nice people (and most are),but he didn't provide much in the way of a scriptural basis for Calvinism itself. This was an easy and pleasant read, but when the book was finished I was still hungry for evidence that Calvinism is grounded in reality.
A Simple, Straightforward Read.......2006-08-09
This is a good book to get an overview of the basics of Calvinism, and how to discuss them rationally and civilly with people who don't see things the same way. It's a little overly simplistic at times, particularly when Mouw chooses not to defend his belief in the "Limited Atonement" part of TULIP on the grounds that he just can't. Still, I would recommend this book not only to Calvinists, but to Arminians, and possibly even nonbelievers looking for some clarity on the issue. Mouw's style is more conversational than confrontational, and it's a relatively easy read, given the subject matter.
Calvinism for the Rest of Us.......2006-04-04
I grew up in a Reformed family, in a Reformed church, in a Reformed school. I was eating TULIP before I was drinking milk! So, its somewhat an enigma for those who know me that I have such reservations about Calvinism. I have tried talking on blogs about these reservations but mostly get responses that don't further endear me to a Calvinist mindset.
But Mouw's book is different. Richard Mouw accomplishes exactly what he sets out to do in this book - a description of how best to be a Calvinist in the 21st century. I could almost entirely embrace Mouw's form and approach to Calvinism - which is no small statement for me to make!!
He does not spend a tremendous amount of time discussing the intricacies of the doctrine which will upset some. He is open to the fact that there may be other believers who have some mixed up doctrine but will still be saved - and he is open to hearing their concerns about where his doctrine might be mixed up. That will upset others. He admits that Scripture, taken at face value, says things that are in tension with his theology. He accepts these tensions rather than trying to twist Scripture to fit his theology. Some will gnash their teeth over this.
I get the sense that Mouw is the type of person that I could sit down with and I would be impressed with his humility, spiritual maturity, humor, and flexibility. That would not only make me willing to listen to what he has to say about Calvinism - I might even be drawn to it!
Ignore the comments that say this is not a book worth buying. The book is not designed to teach people the basic beliefs of Calvinism. However, it would be very helpful to those who recognize that there is great good in Calvinism but can't completely wade their way through it. I would highly recommend this book to anyone desiring to figure out a more embracing approach to Calvinism.
