Customer Reviews:
Simple and fun.......2007-10-15
I got this book at an airport for my 4 yr old and 3 yr old boys. They are just a tad old for this book but they thought it was hilarious. They loved it. I would recommend this for anyone with a toddler. Perfect for before bedtime story.
Who's Hiding is a FUN book!.......2007-08-07
Although the book appears really simple on first flip-through, "Who's Hiding" really makes kids think ... and they learn new vocabulary and memorization skills while they're at it. We checked the book out of the library, but liked it so much that after renewing it once, bought it so we'd have our own copy.
ADORABLE AND FUN!.......2007-07-22
FOUND THIS BOOK AT THE LOCAL LIBRARY AND MY 2-YR-OLD SON IMMEDIATELY TOOK TO IT. HE LOVED FINDING WHICH ANIMAL WAS ACTING OUT WHAT BEHAVIOR. WHEN THE CAPITON ASKS, "WHO'S CRYING?", HIS EYES WOULD SEARCH AND SEARCH PAGE UNTIL HE'D FIND THE TEARY-EYED BUNNY AND POINT TO HIM SAYING, "RABBIT!", & MIMICKING HIS MISERABLE LITTLE FROWNY FACE. AND WHEN THE CAPTION ASKS, "WHO'S ANGRY?", AGAIN HE'D SEARCH AND SEARCH, POINTING OUT THE ANGRY ANIMAL AND SHOWING ME HIS CORRESPONDING MAD FACE. IT WAS GREAT FUN FOR BOTH OF US!
A fun challenge!.......2007-06-27
I love this book! We bought it for a friend of our daughter's; our daughter herself is not quite old enough for it, but I definitely plan on getting it for her once she's ready! It's a fun challenge for children and adults alike to try and spot who's hiding, who's backwards, who's sad, etc. in each picture. In fact, I found myself stumped a few times, finally figuring out the answer after a very careful study of the page! It is a great book for kids because it gives them a reason to concentrate on each page and to use their problem-solving skills, as well as their memory. I really like that kids get to play an active role in the reading of this book, rather than simply taking on the role of the passive listener. I plan to recommend this book to the pre-school I work at, as well as to friends of mine with children.
darling book, clever idea.......2007-06-27
Others have offered great reviews of what is in this book, so I'm just putting in my two cents on age appropriateness: I bought this book for my 4.5 year old daughter, and she liked reading through it once, but doesn't particularly want to read it again. I'm completely charmed by it (hence the 5 stars - she can fill out her own dang review if she disagrees!) and am looking forward to the day when my 1.5 year old boy is more interested in it, which should be soon.
Book Description
Little Deer and his helpful mouse friend encounter chipmunks, insects, spiders, rabbits, lizards, snakes, and birds on this nature trail adventure. Each page is filled with Maurice Pledger's beautifully detailed illustrations, and includes a variety of touch-and-feel textures and a lift-the-flap, pop-up surprise. Small children can easily relate to the endearing animal characters, and this book teaches them about the importance of camouflage and why certain animals hide themselves in the woods. Questions on each page for children to answer reinforce what they've just learned or direct them to pick out certain elements in each picture. Like other titles in Maurice Pledger's Nature Trails series, Hiding in the Woods stimulates a child’s curiosity about the natural world.

Customer Reviews:
Fun, lyrical read!.......2006-09-25
My kids love all books by Elise Broach. Hiding Hoover, like her others, expresses a real joie de vivre and is written in lyrical prose that makes it painless for parents to read the book over and over again, as our kids always demand. A particularly nice feature about Hiding Hoover is that its central (and only) adult character is a father, who is a very involved caregiver, shepherding his children effortlessly through their daily routines. Although at first the father comes across as a bit bumbling, he is not "obtuse" as the School Library Journal review above indicates. To the contrary, we discover at the end that he and Hoover (the dinosaur) have the last laugh, when the final page shows the father and Hoover toasting marshmallows with Hoover's breath after the kids have gone to bed. What we see here is a fun-loving, highly involved father whose love of life has nurtured his children's wonderful imaginations. Hiding Hoover has, in turn, nurtured my kids' own imaginations; they love to dream up new things that Hoover could do with his jagged tail or fiery breath. We are constantly on the lookout for new books by Elise Broach and regularly give her books as gifts. The vivid, humorous illustrations in Hiding Hoover are icing on the cake. Extremely highly recommended!

so cute!.......2004-07-27
This book is so cute! My son loves to look at the silly drawings and laugh. But the best part is, he's also learning about the animals when he reads this. I know there are a lot of kid's books out there - but this one is a real gem.

Customer Reviews:
Student's Review of Fodor's Montreal.......2005-08-31
Fodor's guide to Montreal and Quebec City was a fairly good tour guide book. The maps were easy to use and understand. Rather than having one large map, they're were 4 mini-maps of the places in Montreal to visit, making it effecient to travel. The map of the Metro system was also appreciated. All tour sites listed included was Metro line to take and where to get off. The guide was thorough and covered ALL tourist sites in Montreal. The only thing lacking in the guide was the amount of inexpensive restaurants listed, as well some admission prices were not correct. Overall a very good book for the first time traveller. Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Great idea source for creative people.......2000-11-18
Every designer I knew often thumbs through the big "annuals" such as Graphic, the New Art Directors Annual, One Show, AIGA, etc. These books all show great new work that is often the inspiration for just the idea that one is trying to generate.
Creativity 29 ranks with the best annuals available. Yet, it is different from the others. How? Look through all of the other annuals (I buy ALL of them, every year), and you see a lot of the same work. The same agencies and design firms seem to have their work in all of the annuals. And - many of them are in Creativity as well. But Creativity has one big difference: each year, the Creativity Annual gets entries from 40 or so countries around the world. So, there is a global influence that doesn't appear in most of the other annuals. Another big difference for Creativity is that you can find work inside from places in the United States where the "New York" annuals don't seem to now exist. Who would think that one of the best design firms in the nation is in Seattle? Who would expect to find great creative work coming out of Phoenix? Creativity regularly has great work from more than 30 states. This is work - world class work - that simply isn't seen in the annuals with what some see as a "New York bias." If you want inspiration on creative ideas literally from all over the world -- Creativity 29 is where to find it. In addition, the printing and production quality are first class. Better still, Creativity's price is far better than the other major annuals.
Wonderful book.......2000-11-09
There are perhaps 7-8 really good "annuals" that show great creative work. The Creativity Annual stands out from the rest in that it doesn't just show work from New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. This 29th Creativity Annual includes work from 40 countries around the world, and from many places in the United States.
The result is that you will see work in the Creativity Annual that you won't see anywhere else. The good annuals all serve a similar purpose, and that is to show what's new and fresh in the advertising and design world, and to give creative people a "springboard" for their own ideas. This Creative Annual is full of fantastic, cutting-edge ideas. If you get only one idea from this book, it's a steal.... Not only is this a great book, it's also a bargain.
A "Must Have" for any creative.......2000-11-02
Another outstanding and informative piece from the team at Creativity. An array of clever advertising and tasteful design solutions brought together into one exhilarating publication. A perfect reference guide of ideas and inspiration for the student or practicing professional.
Not what I expected.......2000-10-19
This book was a real waste. It wasn't what I expected. As a graphic designer, I felt that much of the information was too basic. Don't waste your money.

Book Description
Until recently, discussion of `creativity in exile' has focussed almost exclusively on a few European male writers, from Dante to Joseph Brodsky, who sought refuge abroad from political oppression. This volume, with accompanying 100-minute DVD, ranges much more widely, to examine the extraordinary creative endeavours in a range of media of men and women in almost every part of the world who, for a host of different reasons, have experienced displacement from their homelands. It brings together papers by academics, many of whom have experienced exile themselves, on topics as diverse as: the visual arts in Colombia, fiction by displaced indigenous peoples, convicts and slaves as exiles, writings about the partition of Bengal, the culture of Palestinian Americans, philosophers on exile, and the significance of cooking to refugee communities, which are interspersed with poems by contemporary writers in exile. The use of the DVD format has permitted the inclusion of: studio interviews with notable exiled writers from Nigeria, Cyprus and Bulgaria, extracts from two films relating to exile, a live reading of his work by an Iraqi poet, an audio and sculptural installation by a First Nations Canadian artist, and a performance by musicians in exile from Burundi.
