Book Description
Fascinated by optical phenomena and curious to explore the limits of picture making, painters share a long history of creating visual puzzles, composite pictures with shifting perspectives. Ambiguous images whose various levels of meaning depend entirely on the observer's point of view have drawn more than a few painters' brushes over time. This rich volume is dedicated to that multifarious tradition, from early Indian and Persian miniatures of imaginary anthropomorphic landscapes, to Giuseppe Arcimboldo's pictures of the seasons, and finally the works by the great surrealist masters Max Ernst and Salvador Dal', encountering along the way such diverse artists as Francis Picabia, William Hogarth, Leonardo da Vinci, M.C. Escher, Tony Cragg and Kara Walker. Dal', whose work is at the center of this book and gives it its title, came up with no less than seven strata of perception for his work The Endless Enigma, in which parts of the picture merge into ever-new scenarios depending on the individual area the viewer chooses to focus on. A unique presentation of ambiguous pictures that originated in different cultures and epochs, The Endless Enigma: Dal' and the Magicians of Multiple Meaning reveals the enormous complexity of this artistic phenomenon, underlining the meaning of the method of seeing and discovering.

Book Description
This book tells the story of the life of Christ through the eyes of an adorable little rabbit named Nathaneal.
Customer Reviews:
resurrection rabbit.......2002-09-25
What a great book to explain the Easter story to your kids. Simple, easy to read and sweet. Your kids will fall in love with Nathanael.
What Easter is really all about.......2002-09-01
Parents of Christian families don't often know how to let their children enjoy holidays like Christmas and Easter without perpetuating the myths of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. With The Resurrection Rabbit, the author uses the adorable bunny, Nathanael, to show what really happened on "resurrection" Sunday, Easter.
The book features colorful and thoughtful illustrations and the story is told in a fashion that allows for families to read it together. In addition, it is notable that the illustrations of people were multi-ethnic; making any child feel at home. All too often, the Christ-child and the man, Jesus, are portrayed as lilly white Swedes. I appreciated the author and illustrator's sensitivity to this as many minority families cannot find books that their kids can relate to.
I look forward to future titles from the author. The rear cover indicates that future books, describing topics that face todays families, will be available in a "Life Lessons" series.
The Resurrection Rabbit would not only be great for your family, but also a great basket stuffer for grandparents, aunts, uncles and others to give at Easter time.
Book Description
Anne Graham Lotz leads you through the first eleven chapters of Genesis, unlocking hidden messages in the familiar stories of Creation, Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah and the ark, the Tower of Babel, and others. She thoughtfully illuminates each moment of Creation with inspiring insights and probing reflections to better reveal God, the Creator of us all. In God's Story you will thrill to the beauty, majesty, and tenderness of God's personal involvement in creating the world, and you will come to recognize the Creator's infinite power at work in your life as well.
Customer Reviews:
How does Genesis relate to my life?.......2003-09-20
Ms Lotz clearly has been inspired to use the first 11 chapters of Genesis to think deeply about both the history presented there and the implications of it for our relationship with God. She asks the reader to probe his heart with questions like "Have you been disappointed by your parents?" (in the context of the section on Cain & Abel) and "In what ways have you been giving God your second best?" (in the same section). She also speculates about what might have been going on in these historical characters' lives and minds that might explain their actions. If I have any criticism of the book, it's that a reader who is not careful might be led to believe that the speculations are, in fact, the truth of the situation. But that's a minor quibble. I lead a Bible study that is currently focused on Genesis, and I use this book along with a commentary and study notes to prepare for the study, and have found it very helpful. If you're interested in trying to understand some of the puzzling passages in the early chapters of Genesis (I loved her speculation about who the "sons of God" and "daughters of men" are and find it very plausible), or would just like to think more deeply about the first writings that revealed God's relationship to humankind, I would highly recommend this book.
Really His Story.......2001-08-30
This book could only have been Spirit-inspired. I have never read a more clear understanding of mankind's foundation in God. I felt as though God Himself was speaking and giving clarity to so many issues that arise from whence man came and why......
I trust that any person who has doubts about the love of God and why He continues to reach out to us will read this book.

Nothing Here.......2007-04-03
The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World for Grown-Ups is a decent idea but fails to provide much value. It's far too short to be a comprehensive guide, yet it fails to offer much content that is both unique and useful enough to justify its price. If you were to buy the The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2008 (Unofficial Guides), you will get a book that dwarfs this one in size and usefulness. Quite frankly, nearly all of the information presented here is available in the main volume but the reverse is certainly not true. This book can only scratch the surface compared to the full guide. Even though I love the Unofficial Guide series, I can't recommend this one.
Unofficial Guide to WDW for Grown-ups.......2007-01-11
EXCELLENT book! Lots of useful information about accommodations and activities for older people. Well worth the money.
Very Generic and At Times Snide.......2006-04-05
Out of all the Disney books I have, this is the smallest and shortest. It's a paperback size with only 167 actual pages. Of course, that's because it has a very narrow focus. The book really expects that you already have access to one or more "full" books about Disney and are now hoping to get specific information on grown up activities. I therefore was expecting this book NOT to redundantly cover all the basics - but to focus on the specifics for adults.
The book begins by advising adults to go in late April / early May. The weather's warm enough to swim, it's relatively quiet, and the gardens are in full bloom. Dress casually unless you must have a formal dinner, and pack light. Bring ear plugs just in case, and an easy to carry water bottle. Comfortable shoes are a must! All of these things are exactly what every other book says. Every book tries to get you go to when it's less crowded and to be sensible while you're there.
The book gives a lot of generic information on ticket prices, airline ideas, hotels. They do get into romantic hotels and restaurants, perhaps assuming that adults coming here are coming as couples. They talk about things to do at each theme park. However, most of what I read was generic. There were very few items that were aimed only at adults. In fact, the ones that were did so from the viewpoint of "xxx is far too childish for you to enjoy"
Now here's where this book really annoys me. The tone of much of the book is VERY snide. They make snide comments about noisy kids, about inane rides, about just about every aspect of going to Disney. One or two things I could let slide. We all have pet peeves. However, it's like they are going out of their way to say "We aren't with Disney, and we think they suck, they can't do anything about it, nyah nyah nyah." It gets REALLY redundant really quickly. The whole reason I got this book is because I *want* to go to Disney. I don't feel like reading nasty commentary about it the entire time. You know what, if they think Small Word is "brain damaging", they can just choose to go elsewhere. They don't have to dediate two paragraphs to bashing it.
Once they finish with the park reviews, they give a lot of time to the nighttime island and to shopping. Apparently adults like to drink and shop, but not do "Disney" things. Finally, the book discusses wine lists a bit, and hidden mickeys a fair amount.
I felt rather disappointed when I finished with this book. Most of it was generic and redundant to other Disney books. Very little of it was adult-specific - and when it was, it was apparently aiming to very "super-mature" adults who were incredibly wealthy. Many of the things they said to avoid, I would enjoy greatly. I realize it's hard to write something that aims to ALL adults. However, they didn't even seem to try. Either they were driving me away with their snideness, excluding me with their incredibly high price tag recommendations, or talking down to me.
Rent this at a library first to see if you find anything useful in it. For actual "cheap Disney" suggestions or reviews of hotels / restaurants / attractions you'll enjoy, it's far more useful to get an actual full book on Disney and go through it with your own interests in mind.
Not worth it........2005-03-15
A better title for this book would be "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World for the Wealthy and Jaded Retiree".
I'm a very big fan of the Unofficial Guide to Disney World and I thought this "add-on" guide would be a good investment but I am rather disappointed. The author seems to think that all "grown-ups" have an unlimited budget for their trip and actually says "It will cost you $300 or more (more than $500 for the deluxe savannah view) but that's not out of line." in reference to the Lodge at Animal Kingdom. I just about fell out of my chair!
Since this add-on Guide doesn't feature a reference year on the cover as its big brother does I didn't realize I was buying a guide book over 2 years out of date (published in 2003 and the original Unofficial Guide admits that they're out of date when they go to press) apparently there is a new edition coming out though.
Everything this guide recommends seems to have more to do with spending lots of money and avoiding children at all costs than enjoying the parks. Its recommended visiting times seem highly out of sync with the original Guide's attendance calendars And the author seems to feel that no adult could possibly enjoy some of the sillier and kitschier attraction and souvenirs.
It also has very little for the younger "grown-up" most of its reviews and comments seem aimed at the retiree.
This is a very jaded look at Disney through the eyes of someone who obviously had more money than your average Disney vacationer. I got much more useful information out of the original Unofficial Guide.
WDW in your pocket for the adult visitor.......2000-04-26
This compact format of the "Unofficial Guide" is handy to carry compared to its larger counterpart "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2000; Bob Sehlinger" but the information is basically the same. Tips to help with the Kids for are cut, as are some of the more lengthy reviews of hotels/attractions/restaurants.
This book aims and hits the mark with helpful hints for the Grown-up (are we ever grown-up?) visitor. However, to keep the book more compact there is a great deal of rich material left out that is useful for the first time visitor. The information is provided in a well-organized format that most will find useful. Common questions are answered, and the book provides resource lists, Web sites, and e-mail addresses.
Timesavers are included regarding attractions that are more along the adult taste, but who is to say that the author knows everyone's taste. One of the "Don't Bother" items for the Magic Kingdom is Mickey's ToonTown. For the more whimsical adult this can be a fun place and a hot spot to meet characters unclose and personal. After all what would a trip to WDW be without that old standard photo of you and "the Mouse" himself.
Where this book shines is pointing you towards the more "adult" attractions and events. With so much to do and experience at WDW a good guide is extremely helpful.
Using the planning tips in this and other guides hundreds of dollars can be saved. The How to Cut Costs section offers many ways to save money both in the planning stages as well as during the visit. While money may be no object to some, most people would rather with a little knowledge save some cash to happily spend it on all the souvenirs we must bring back to those not heading for the "World".
Overall as a handy guide easy to carry I would recommend this book for the "adult" traveler. Another handy to carry guide is "PassPorter Walt Disney World: The unique travel guide, planner, organizer, journal, and keepsake!" For serious planning a meatier guidebook is needed. I have found that the "Unofficial" guides offer the off the cuff, straight shooting opinions and have relied on them for years.
If this is your first trip to WDW then buy the more comprehensive guide and if you want a handy to carry reference then The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World for Grown-Ups is a great choice. If you are a repeat visitor you should be able to skip the larger version and go straight for the Grown-Ups guide. As WDW evolves so do the attractions but the goal is the same, HAVE FUN!
Book Description
Browsers and young students alike will enjoy these lively question and answer books with their unique mix of realistic illustration and engaging cartoons. The enticing questions will amaze, amuse and inspire, while the highly visual format encourages kids to keep reading.
Customer Reviews:
A LOOK AT THE ANCIENT WORLD.......2004-03-04
Ancient worlds are revisited in Romans Wore Togas by Fiona MacDonald. Youngsters will smile at the rollicking illustrations of days long past, while they learn what Roman children played with, visit the site of the world's first shopping mall, and see what Emperor Augustus did about high-rise apartments.
Published in the Kingfisher series "I Wonder Why," this amazingly complete text leaves little to wonder about as data is skillfully woven into sometimes comically recreated scenes from early everyday life.
History that appeals to kids.......2000-04-01
One can quibble about some of the information presented here, but the format and text got my five year old's attention, and I'mgrateful for any history book that can appeal to someone this young. Some of the facts were suitably "gross", (vomitoria, communal bathrooms) but they generated discussion, and isn't that the idea?

Anthology of Modern Informational Graphic Design.......1998-03-09
I liked the depth and breadth of projects for informational graphic design. As a reference in How magazine's 3/98 article on wayfinding systems. I found it better than Edward Tuftes' trilogy of Visual Display..., Visual Explanations..., and Envisioning Info....
I think that this essential reading for a technical oriented designer.
Beautiful, but I was disappointed.......1998-03-05
I own, and like very much, Graphis Diagrams 1. I was dismayed to see examples from Diagrams 1 repeated in Diagrams 2, for no apparent reason. I also was dismayed at the omission, in most cases, of media notes in the project descriptions (which are now separated from the examples, as an index in the back of the book).
