Book Description
"Sweet spot." Golfers understand the term. So do tennis players. Ever swung a baseball bat or paddled a Ping-Pong ball? If so, you know the oh-so-nice feel of the sweet spot. Life in the sweet spot rolls like the downhill side of a downwind bike ride. But you don't have to swing a bat or a club to know this. What engineers give sports equipment, God gave you.
A zone, a region, a life precinct in which you were made to dwell. He tailored the curves of your life to fit an empty space in his jigsaw puzzle. And life makes sweet sense when you find your spot.
But if you're like 87 percent of workers, you haven't found it. You don't find meaning in your work--or you're one of the 80 percent who don't believe their talents are used. What can you do? You're suffering from the common life, and you desperately need a cure.
Best-selling author Max Lucado has found it. In
Cure for the Common Life he offers practical tools for exploring and identifying your own uniqueness, motivation to put your strengths to work, and the perfect prescription for finding and living in your sweet spot for the rest of your life.

Christian reading.......2007-08-23
Max Lucado is a wonderful writer, good reading and good
applications to our lives.
What's in your tool kit?.......2007-06-17
A practical guide to exploring how to know yourself, and your real calling, a bit better! Lucado's thought is that God gives us each a unique tool kit, suited for a unique destiny! Hopeful, fun, readable! I read it aloud with my homeschooled son, and we enjoyed discussions.
Cake or Death?.......2007-06-05
Another book that would do better service, it seems, as a shim under a wobbly table than as a last-ditch prop for a moribund worldview.
To Be Swallowed.......2007-04-24
Imagine three circles intertwined (a la Olympic rings), with one central area where all three cirlces converge.
Circle #1 is Your Everyday Life
Circle #2 is Your Strengths
Circle #3 is God's Glory
Where the circles converge....there is Your Sweet Spot. This is what Max Lucado writes in his book "Cure for the Common Life: How to Live in Your Sweet Spot."
I've read some of Max Lucado's children's books to my kids - sweet, poignant stories about accepting who you are as a divine creation of a divine being. When I saw this book at the library, I thought it might be interesting to read what this Christian author had to say about adults and our everyday lives. Not surprisingly, his message is the same for the parents as it is for his younger audiences: accept who you are as a divine creation of a divine being.
Lucado spends much of this book cheering the reader on to accept and act upon the principles that each of us is created with unique worth and talents and abilities. "Your life has a plot; your years have a theme. You can do something in a manner that no one else can."
He compares each of us to a piece of luggage being packed for a trip. If you were going to Hawaii in July you wouldn't pack a parka and snow boots. You would pack what was appropriate for the time, place, the owner of the bag. WE are prepackaged by God for the lives we are to lead while here on our earthly "trip": when/where/who we are. We find unhappiness when we try to fit ourselves into the clothing in someone else's bag. If that were to happen in real life - if we pick up the wrong suitcase at the airport terminal - what would we do? He says, "you'd hunt down your own bag. Issue an all-points bulletin. Call the airport. The taxi service...No one wants to live out of someone else's bag. Then why do we? Odds are, someone urged a force fit into clothes not packed for you." Sometimes, that "someone" is ourselves, isn't it?
Lucado suggests that we get smart and get brave about trying to live in our Sweet Spot. He challenges us to find the things that we love to do, where we have natural abilities and feel the greatest measures of success, and then incorporate those things into our everyday. In doing so, we glorify God by glorifying the gifts and talents he gave us. I know, I know, people have been saying for years that a genius is the person who can figure out a way to make a living doing what he loves, but how many of us really go for it? And I, for one, never really thought about it in terms of my faith. If I have faith that God made me individually, that he knows every hair on my head, then doesn't it make sense that he cares about how I spend every minute of my day?
There are chapters that deal with how to make the most of what you ~are~ doing, if an immediate change is not feasible. Lucado says, basically, take God to work with you. Every single day, have Him in your heart, and it will change how you do things.
Lucado by profession is a preacher, and some of the sections are...well..."preachy". I even started snoring a bit at some of the parts, and I'm a believer. I also wondered if he's gotten to be such a prolific author that the editors give him the go-ahead a little sooner than they should (holy goat, the man rambles!). But all in all, I think this book has some very profound things to say about what we should choose to do and why we should choose to do it.
There is an acronym in the book that is meant to help readers find their Sweet Spot. It is STORY:
S: Strengths (what are yours? what comes easily? VERB)
T: Topics (what do you like to talk about? learn about? NOUN)
O: Optimal Conditions (under what conditions do you naturally thrive? what triggers your motivation?)
R: Relationships (what is your ideal relationship pattern? alone? in a group?)
Y: Yes! (what is paydirt? what makes you say YES!)
One of the ways to study your STORY is to read your life backwards. Regress through adulthood to adolescence to childhood, and try to chart out times when you felt the strongest about something you were passionate about. Something that made you think (or say) Yes! There is a section at the back of the book that offers worksheets helping the reader to identify those types of moments throughout their life. The ultimate goal is to rid yourself of your common life and make things extraordinary.
I really enjoyed this book and felt it was a fresh way to look at my life and how I'd like to revamp it.
What the other don't tell you..........2007-03-12
I've read a lot of the other reviews--and they are right. This is a good book. However, what I don't see is a general warning: THIS BOOK IS HARD! For the 87% of us not in our sweet spots, you really have to peel back layers of self-defense and coping mechanisms that get you through the day-to-day grind of work. It's worth it, but as truths surface, they ripple. There is pain with this growth, but stick with it. The truth's worth it. Very life changing.
Book Description
George Hall is an unobtrusive man. A little distant, perhaps, a little cautious, not at quite at ease with the emotional demands of fatherhood, or manly bonhomie. He does not understand the modern obsession with talking about everything. “The secret of contentment, George felt, lay in ignoring many things completely.” Some things in life, however, cannot be ignored.
At 61, George is settling down to a comfortable retirement, building a shed in his garden, reading historical novels and listening to a bit of light jazz. Then his tempestuous daughter, Katie, announces that she is getting re-married, to the deeply inappropriate Ray. Her family is not pleased – as her brother Jamie observes, Ray has “strangler’s hands.” Katie can’t decide if she loves Ray, or loves the wonderful way he has with her son Jacob, and her mother Jean is a bit put out by all the planning and arguing the wedding has occasioned, which get in the way of her quite fulfilling late-life affair with one of her husband’s ex-colleagues. And the tidy and pleasant life Jamie has created crumbles when he fails to invite his lover, Tony, to the dreaded nuptials.
Unnoticed in the uproar, George discovers a sinister lesion on his hip, and quietly begins to lose his mind.
The way these damaged people fall apart – and come together – as a family is the true subject of Haddon’s disturbing yet amusing portrait of a dignified man trying to go insane politely.
A SPOT OF BOTHER is Mark Haddon’s unforgettable follow-up to the internationally beloved bestseller THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME. Here the madness – literally – of family life proves rich comic fodder for Haddon’s crackling prose and bittersweet insights into misdirected love.

crazy hall.......2007-10-18
Mark, esperamos tu tercero.
very moving.......2007-10-16
One of the best books I've ever read. It's an account of a dysfunctional family going through a number if stressful family situations. I found it very moving at points, sometimes funny, sometimes very sad but always believable. I really recommend it. I would not give 5 stars lightly, but this book really got to me. I do think that because of its content it may be something of a love it or hate it kind of book.
Extremely well written and funny.......2007-10-15
When I was asked what this book is about, all I could say was it's about a dysfunctional British family. The daughter is getting married, the father is having a breakdown. So the plot sounds--is--very pedestrian, and there's not much that happens to change that assessment. The interest is entirely in the telling. Haddon has a very dry, deadpan sense of humor, including a postmodern sense of the absurd, which I found consistently entertaining. I don't consider it life-changing, nor do I expect to remember it for years, but it was a great way to spend a few days.
Funny and touching novel.......2007-10-07
I read Mark Haddon's already acclaimed debut novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, a few years ago and found it to be one of the most interesting books I read in years. Plus, it was damn funny, in that English stiff upper lip sort of way.
In his follow-up novel, Haddon takes the same approach as he did with his first, but instead of detailing the inner world of an autistic teenager, he takes on a recent retiree named George Hall who exhibits all the trademarks of men who find that once they have to deal with their wife and family 24/7, that they almost would welcome death as a good friend. Also, George is a man who cannot articulate his problems, because, well, that would not be right.
Still, convinced a bit of eczema on his hip is cancer, George goes into a tailspin, just as family situations become even greater than one can think of. This laugh-out loud slice of domestic life is wonderfully realized by Haddon, and it zips along from one major family problem to George's increasing morbid fascination with death. There is some deft comic touches here, and while there are no big surprises here, and you know how it will end, Haaddon's ability to create real characters with real problems is a talent little seen in today's fiction.
Fascinating stuff.......2007-10-06
An interesting romp through the lives of a troubled family. I found it difficult to follow the character names but once I wrote them down I was able to get it. Excellent and memorable scenes near the end that make up for some overly-depressing stuff early on.
Book Description
Rome, Florence, and Venice: those magical names are at the top of everyone’s “must-see” list for Italy. First-time visitors design their itineraries around them, while Italy veterans return to them again and again, knowing that the old saying about Rome, “A lifetime is not enough,” equally applies to Florence and Venice.
This guide gives travelers what they want: the same high-quality coverage as in Fodor's other Italy guides, but with a focus on the most popular destinations. The resulting book is slimmer and lighter than competing guides, but it’s filled with great Fodor’s features and information that’s rich and varied enough to suit any taste.
• Includes itineraries showing readers how to see the best of Italy at their own pace, with maximum fun and minimum fatigue
• Magazine-like “In Focus” features include topics such as Ancient Rome, The Basilica di San Francesco in Assisi, Siena's Campo & the Palio, Who's Who in Renaissance (Florence), Cruising the Grand Canal (Venice), Palladio Country, Emilia One Tast at a Time, The Fashionista's Milan, and The Cinque Terre.
• Thorough coverage of the surrounding highlights, including Tuscany, Milan, and the Cinque Terre
• 8-page color insert

Good information, terrible maps.......2007-08-20
I've never been disappointed with a Fodor's guide until now. Although the information is very good, as usual for Fodor's, the maps are terrible. In particular, the pullout map is almost useless; many streets are shown, but not marked with a name -- and why does a guide for Rome, Florence and Venice not have a pullout map for Florence? Even the maps within the guide itself are disappointing -- names are printed in black, but the maps themselves are in orange ink, making them hard to read, and once again they lack enough detail to find your way in a strange city. Fodor's should check Rick Steves' Italy guide to see how to do a map. If you choose this as your only guide for an Italian trip, make sure your first action in any of the three cities is to buy a good map! (I particularly recommend the Berendtson map of Venice, and the Editricelozzi map of Rome.)
Good book, but not ideal for (cheap) backpackers.......2007-06-08
I just graduated college and decided to go on a backpacking trip through Europe. We spend about a week in Italy, and this book was somewhat helpful, but not ideal.
The food suggestions were generally for slightly higher budget travelers, and the organization didn't really fit our travel style.
If you are backpacking or just a young person looking for a good travel book, our group had a good experience with the MTV Europe (MTV Guides)book. It was kind of bulky, but we used it nearly everyday.
If you are considering this book or something from the Eyewitness series, I would definitely go with the Eyewitness book. It may be more expensive, but it will be vastly more useful. In Rome I ended up purchasing Rome (Eyewitness Travel Guides) from a bookstore, and wishing I would have just bought the whole Italy book off Amazon in the first place.
Bottom line, if you are cheap or on a budget, I would look at other books, but this will get the job done if you are looking for some nice places to eat and stay.
Italy in all its glory.......2007-05-10
I used Fodor's to map out my itinerary to ensure I saw everything I wanted to see and experienced Italy in all its glory. It explained the "must sees" very well and concisely.
The map was handy but not as good as other maps purchased in a book store which had more detail right on the map of the places to see so we did not have to carry the book around.
Tips on how to avoid the long lines were very accurate.
Gives me what I'm looking for, and a little more.......2007-03-10
I've been looking at a bunch of guides for planning an Italy trip this summer, and this is the best so far. It's not as big as other guides, but it's got as much information about the places I'm going as the other guides do, and it also manages to throw in little things that are unique, like an interview with a winebar owner in Venice, explaining the local winebar customs and no-nos.

Now, these previously unexplained flares of ideas and innovation are thoroughly examined, as Gratton shows how to develop of Hot Spots within ones own environment.
Customer Reviews:
Hot Spots is well worth a 'truffle'.......2007-05-25
The fundamental equation "Hot Spots = (Cooperative Mindset x Boundary Spanning x Igniting Purpose) x Productive Capacity" is the organising principle of this book. All material is very well organised to illustrate and support this insight. The style is conversational and authoritative. There is a lack of pretension that is refreshing in business literature. The material is supported throughout by real life examples. My favourite is the `Truffles' initiative at OgilvyOne. There are many other examples across many industries.
Professor Gratton uses language in a way that reinforces the main messages and makes concepts memorable: `Signature Processes' describe activities that powerfully convey a company's character and passion; `Boundary Spanners' move in many worlds, share information and connect people. `Big Freeze' and `Country Club' describe sub-cultures unlikely to produce hotspots!
Appendix A contains some fabulous material to help readers interested in creating their own `hot spots' - including many diagnostic questions and ways to map your system. Go on......treat yourself....... you deserve it!
The Power of Thermal Convergence.......2007-04-21
In this volume, Lynda Gratton explains how and why "boundaryless cooperation fuels innovation...why some teams, workplaces, and organizations buzz with energy - and others don't." The business model she recommends is an "open" one. In fact, it is precisely what Henry Chesbrough brilliantly explains in Open Innovation and in his more recent book, Open Business Models. What is a "boundaryless" organization? GE is probably the most prominent example. (Curiously, there are no references in Hot Spots to Chesbrough, GE or its former CEO, Jack Welch.) According to Gratton, a "boundaryless organization" is one within which people are engaged in "purposeful conversation"; there are no barriers to communication, cooperation, and collaboration; and the organization has an ever-widening "net of involvement."
Those whom Gratton calls "boundary spanners" are very important because they break down the "walls" between in-groups and out-groups. They have a network of relationships that form a natural bridge between the two groups. (Chesbrough calls them "innovation intermediaries.") In a boundaryless organization, people feel energized and vibrantly alive. Their brains buzz with ideas as they share with others the joy and excitement of "exploiting and applying knowledge that is already known and genuinely exploring what was previously unknown." Relationships between and among those involved create a Hot Spot.
"One of the most profound insights about Hot Spots is that their innovative capacity arises from the intelligence, insights, and wisdom of people working together. The energy contained in a Hot Spot is essentially a combination of their individual energy with the addition of the relational energy generated between them." Hence the importance of (a) having a "cooperative mindset," (b) "boundary spanners," (c) "igniting purpose," and (d) sustaining sufficient "productive capacity." Gratton acknowledges that there is much of substantial value to be learned by examining best practices in exemplary companies (e.g. BP, PgilvyOne, Nokia, and Linux)but also other types of practices, notably what she characterizes as "signature processes" which embody a given organization's character. They arise from passions and interests within the organization. Whereas best practices "bring the outside in," signature processes "bring the inside out."
To Gratton's great credit, after identifying the "what" in the Introduction and Chapters 1 and 2, she focuses most of her attention on "how" and "why" in the remaining six chapters. I also appreciate the provision of information in three appendices, especially in the first ("Resources for Creating Hot Spots"). And I especially appreciate Gratton's decision to want until the final chapter before explaining how to design (or re-design) an organization in which Hot Spots "emerge." The process consists of five phases best revealed within Gratton's narrative (i.e. in context) but I do presume to suggest that Hot Spots are inevitable and can exist anywhere, both physically and electronically. The challenge is to encourage and support them without institutionalizing ("housebreaking") them. That is a very real danger, one which Bob Taylor obviously recognized when he insisted that the Xerox Corporation allow him to establish - with unlimited funding -- the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) which those at Xerox's corporate headquarters (in Connecticut) viewed as a "renegade" think tank. In fact, Taylor and his associates conceptualized the very notion of the desktop computer, long before IBM launched its PC, and it laid the foundation for Microsoft Windows with a prototype graphical user interface of icons and layered screens. Even the technology that makes it possible for these words to appear on the screen can trace its roots to Xerox's eccentric band of innovators. It is possible but highly unlikely that any of this could have been achieved, had the research center been absorbed within the Xerox corporate culture in the 1970s.
Guided and informed by Gratton's observations and recommendations, senior-level executives will be well-prepared to provide the leadership needed to avoid or overcome barriers to innovation within their organizations by nurturing a cooperative mindset, encouraging and supporting those who are "boundary spanners," igniting purpose at all levels and in all areas throughout the given enterprise, and - as a result -- sustain sufficient "productive capacity."
Those who share my high regard for this book are urged to check out two of Gratton's earlier works, Living Strategy: Putting People at the Heart of Corporate Purpose and The Democratic Enterprise: Liberating Your Business with Freedom, Flexibility, and Commitment. Also When Sparks Fly: Harnessing the Power of Group Creativity by Dorothy Leonard-Barton and Walter C. Swap, Organizing Genius: The Secrets of Creative Collaboration by Warren G. Bennis and Patricia Ward Biederman, and Juice: The Creative Fuel That Drives World-Class Inventors by Evan I. Schwartz.
Creating a Supercharged Environment........2007-03-13
I've been involved in just a few of what Ms. Gratton calls Hot Sports. These were projects that somehow gathered together a group of people totally dedicated to success. They were good people, working at the limits of their capabilities and an amazing amount of work was accomplished in a very short time.
I had never realized that this would be the subject of academic study, or that it could be managed to occur as part of a regular business environment. Ms Gratton says that there are four criteria that must come together to make a Hot Spot work:
A cooperative mindset: when people are excited, willing, eager and able to work together
Boundary spanning: with people fromdifferent backgrounds, skill sets, and outlooks combine their expertise in new ways
Igniting purpose: there must be a question, task, vision that creates a shared goal
Productive capacity: people must be able to work together, resolve conflicts, and manage the rhythm and pace of their work.
HOT SPOTS is key to building a strong, collaborative organization and shouldn't be missed........2007-03-12
HOT SPOTS: WHY SOME TEAMS, WORKPLACES, AND ORGANIZATIONS BUZZ WITH ENERGY - AND OTHERS DON'T packs in details on what differentiates a thriving, busy organization from a stagnant one, and will find a special place in the busy manager's bookshelf as a basic reference to understanding organizational dynamics. Lynda Gratton has spent a decade uncovering and analyzing what contributes to Hot Spots: her research has uncovered four basic qualities and organization needs to support the creation of Hot Spots of excitement and cooperation. HOT SPOTS is key to building a strong, collaborative organization and shouldn't be missed.

How to stay "hot" in our "chilling" organizations .......2007-02-23
Lynda Gratton has done it again. An astute observer of high performing organizations, Dr. Gratton offers an alternative way to resolve the endless pursuit of the right answers to the challenging questions of business growth, employee engagement and enterprise sustainability.
Based on her rigorous research and thoughtful reflection, Hot Spots deliver a provocative message. The organizations that buzz with healthy energy and draw talent to themselves produce innovative solutions and deliver results. Those are the outcomes rather than goals. The innovative and sustainable cultures cannot be engineered; they have to be nurtured and let the hot spots "emerge." Dr. Gratton convincingly concludes that focusing on the right things such as collaborative ways of working, cultivating relationships, and motivating people through meaningful purpose, vision, and goals is what really matters.
There is a new art of leadership that is modelled in the study. It is the leadership that knows how to create the environments that become magnets of diverse talent and paradigm changing ideas.
The book is a must for those of us who want to stay relevant in the evolving 21 century organizations.

Playing Detective for Business or Pleasure .......2007-10-17
For those who enjoy playing detective, analyzing people, or just trying to gather clues for `fitting in' with a culture or sub-culture, this book may be an informative read. Referring to humans as `naked apes', expert interrogator, Gregory Hartley, uses this body language primer to introduce his R.E.A.D. (Review, Evaluate, Analyze, Decide) system for figuring out what is really going down when an `unknown monkey' enters the fray.
Acknowledging that context defines everything, including the signs from body language, the reader is first treated to a lesson in culture as the biggest external influence. That said, Hartley gives the reader a tutorial in what various facial components (the forehead or brow speaks loudest) may be saying - is that a smile of recognition or discomfort? Don't judge yet, just gather data (including body posture and limb movement) and in this `Review `stage, catalogue what you see. Develop a baseline and look for changes that are inconsistent with the words spoken - this is the `Evaluate' stage. Is that change due to excitement or embarrassment? Now it is time to make it personal and `Analyze' the individual so that you can `Decide' what to do with the information you gather.
How simple is that? Not very, was my observation after reading the book, so I looked at Hartley's points to remember:
* Culture is pervasive
* Long-term relationships...create...blinding...filters
* False cognates exist in body language, as well as spoken language
* Baseline what is normal first
* Build your own list of....mood indicators
* Context is everything
Still, not a very clear how-to list for me, and I conclude that it is very difficult, even for an expert, to write about how to read others. Perhaps it is just best to ask what they mean! Dennis DeWilde, author of "The Performance Connection"
Good book.......2007-10-02
Good Book, easy to read and some easy tips for picking up body language signals
very interesting.......2007-08-16
Great book with a lot of information. For anyone who wants to know more about themselves and others!
Good read.......2007-05-26
I really liked this book. It gives a large overview of body language and how to read it. It's a bit dry and contains quite a lot of information. Expect to have to re-read it a few times to understand and be able to apply the information contained within.
Incredibly helpful for me .......2007-05-25
I had an unusual reason to order this book -- my child has a mild case of Asperger's Syndrome. This means that she lacks the skills to interpret body language unless she learns it as a "second language." So I bought it with her in mind. As I read it, I was surprised how extremely helpful it was for ME. I honestly never realized how much I was missing! The skills it teaches will help with relationships of all kinds, business and personal. I truly believe readers will find it valuable and fascinating -- not to mention well written! Thank you, Gregory Hartley and Maryann Karinch!

A Book That Really Hits the Spot.......2007-09-12
For years, there has been debate over whether the G-spot exists, and if it does, where it is located. I think the debate is over...the G-spot is real, but the problem is too few men know how to find it and use it properly. This book is a good, fundamental guide to locating the spot and using techniques that will bring your partner to the climax of a life time.
I found it ironic, as I read the book, that I had been using the basic technique already described in the book, without knowing it was the G-spot, and had my partner to near ecstasy, but always fell short. It's all in the timing, or continuing even after your arm goes numb...something I now know.
The only downside I found to the book was the step by step directions. That may work for some, but for others a more narrative style might be helpful. If you order the book, remember that it is a how to manual, much like a car repair book.
I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to bring a new level to their lovemaking. In addition, it ought to be required of all young males and females as they are starting their sex lives.

A superb sex manual ideal for elevating one's sex life to new heights of passion........2007-07-09
Written by award-winning author Donald L. Hicks, with the aid of correspondence from expert human sexuality researchers, Unleashing Her G-Spot Orgasm: A Step-by-Step Guide to Achieving Ultimate Sexual Ecstasy lives fully up to its title. Chapters address the basics of human sexuality for pleasure, step-by-step techniques to use, types of G-Spot friendly coitus, how to deal with common problems that interfere with sexual pleasure (such as discomfort, "orgasm anxiety", or the urge to urinate), case studies, and more. A superb sex manual ideal for elevating one's sex life to new heights of passion.
Lacks spirit.......2007-05-13
I guess the title says it all, step-by-step. Too mechanistic and simplified. Does not delve deep into the true nature of the beauty of women and orgasm. Like something you'd read in a Mens health magazine or cosmopolitan.
The real deal........2006-09-17
This book is the real deal.
I read and memorized this book.
When I followed it with my girlfriend, it was a complete road map to what to look for before proceeding to the next road post. In our case, each of the things to watch for, and the things to do and avoid doing worked.
This book was life changing for my girlfriend. She has compared the orgasms from the g-spot to taking drugs and she was very happy and spaced out for several days afterwards.
I recommend this book highly. Hell, I wish they taught it to kids the first year in college.
A good book...but a bit dogmatic at times.......2005-12-18
I think the author gives very good basics to pleasuring women with foreplay, g-spot orgasm and female ejaculation orgasm, the good thing is that it is written in a clear simple way and it's easy to follow which is really a good thing!...i think every man who wants to make great love to his woman and give her very pleasurable orgasms should read it...the only thing that i don't understand is that the author stresses too much the fact that you can't touch the vagina because it would finish the "emotional bond" he assumes that all women have an "idealistic emotional" conception of sexuality...and he says even if she wants you to touch her there, but if a woman wants you to touch her there, she is already feeling "an emtional bond"... an other thing that was annoying is that if you start reading the book from the "techniques" part he again assumes that you are not patient and not a good lover by telling you so,it's none of his buisness to juge us like that i have the right to read a book in any order i want!... so to sum up...it's a book with good basics but don't follow absolutely everything absorb the useful information...and use it to fullest on your woman!...

Praise for THE VISUAL INVESTOR
"John Murphy is one of a rare breed: an expert technical analyst who can actually write. This combination of skills helped make his Technical Analysis of the Futures Markets a classic. Now John has written the perfect overview aimed specifically at the stock investor who wants to learn technical analysis. . . . The Visual Investor offers a complete course in technical analysis, lucid enough to be accessible to the novice, yet thorough enough to range well beyond the basics. . . . [It] is must reading for the stock and mutual fund investor who wants to start incorporating technical analysis as a decision-making tool."
Jack D. Schwager Author, The New Market Wizards and Technical Analysis
"The challenge of technical analysis is that it can be so technical. Now John Murphy, through The Visual Investor, explains everything for the common investor who wants to use technical analysis but doesn't want an overly complicated presentation."
Thom Hartle Editor, Technical Analysis of Stocks & Commodities magazine
"As my research group relies heavily on market analysis for its research product, we get numerous inquiries from professional investors on where to find books on this topic. John Murphy's The Visual Investor is my first recommendation to the novice investor as well as the investment professional. . . . [It] is the simplest and most helpful first look at markets that I have seen."
John Kozey III, CFA, CMT Equity Research Director, Bridge Trading Company

Over rated!.......2007-05-12
Covers a broad range of topics, but does not get deep enough on any one point to be very helpful! I have to agree with the other (2 star) reviews the book is great for the beginner, but did not provide me with the insight I had been hoping for! I too would agree the book is getting a little out dated. It really pays to read the reviews!
intro book.......2007-01-09
although an intro book, I did not find this very useful. there are a bunch of tools: volume, indicators etc. but I did not learn anything about how to use that info and actually buy a stock. for the same purpose, check out Intelyze, more expensive, but MUCH better tool.
Visual Investor - Good Starting Point.......2006-03-20
For the novice investor this is a good starting point. It speaks to the beginner trader. It intruduces you to chart analysis, intermarket relationships and Stock and Market trends. However, it is 10 years old and some of the technology discussed is out of date. The basic concepts of oscillators, indicators and trends are solid information. The CD provided did not work in my system and I viewed it as worthless. I think it was created for an operating system well below today's standards. Interesting book and nice starting point for the beginner.
Good starter book but that's it.......2004-02-01
This is a good starter book for the beginner, although it will be much too basic for the intermediate or advanced trader. But if you're just starting out, the first 133 pages will give you a basic introduction to the different technical indicators and chart reading. The next half of the book deals with the application of the indicators to mutual funds and other topics. I would just read the first 133 pages, and then go on to one of the more advanced texts now that you have some background, as this book by itself isn't enough to give you a good understanding of the subject. Murphy himself has a more advanced book, and Martin Pring also, and many others. Just be advised this is really just the beginning. The book is also a bit overpriced but I will say it's probably the easiest book I've seen recently for getting your feet wet on the subject.
Perhaps the most important part of the book is Murphy's mentioning that the head and shoulders pattern was investigated by the Federal Reserve and found to be statistically significant, and supposedly now is using the indicator to time its currency interventions. However, the real use of technical analysis is not that the patterns mean anything in and of themselves, its having the experience and judgment to know which pattern applies in a given situation that makes them truly useful, and the fact the traders themselves believe in them, so to some extent they become a self-fulfilling prophecy. So the field of technical analysis is itself a combination of art and science.
And actually, the most important aspect of trading is loss control and sell discipline, and understanding position sizing relative to risk and reward, since understanding the technical indicators is actually fairly straightforward, and many charting packages will do that for you anyway, so you don't even know how to understand how they're derived. And the charting packages will generate buys and sells by whatever indicator you want, but remember, it's knowing when to apply a given indicator that's the hard part. Finally, if you're planning on starting in on trading yourself, make sure you read up on and understand what's known as "money management" thoroughly before you set out--such as proper position sizing (not risking too much money on a given trade) and not selling your losers promply--an almost universal mistake among novice traders--and even pros who should (and do) know better. Good luck and happy trading!
Yet another trading book.......2003-08-21
Absolutely nothing special at all. Target audience is on par of those reading Elder's Trading for a Living. Teaches a little bit of everything, but nothing very well. An advanced trader should literally be able to flip through the book, look at the charts and infer all that is necessary from this book. The few strong points that I saw were linked to intermarket relationships which Murphy has already written an entire book about.

Book Description
Her man demanded loyalty, but her body wouldn’t obey.
Have you ever rolled over in the middle of the night and realized you were doing things you swore you’d never do? Sexing brothers you vowed you’d never touch? Bending backwards and stooping lower than you ever thought you’d stoop? Well if you can feel me even a little bit, then let me hit you with a story that just might blow your mind. . . .
Nineteen-year-old Juicy Stanfield is the sexy young girlfriend of Granite “G” McKay, owner of Harlem’s notorious G-Spot Social Club. A drug dealer with a lethal streak, he runs Harlem with an iron fist. But even the cash and the bling can’t keep Juicy from getting restless, and while G fulfills her every material desire, she’s burning up with unrequited sexual energy. To cheat on him would mean a death sentence; so Juicy finds pleasure in secret ways: fantasizing on crowded subways or allowing her eyes to hungrily take in the male dancers on the club’s ladies night.
But as Juicy’s sexual cravings grow stronger, one thing becomes frighteningly clear: She’s a virtual prisoner in G’s dangerous world. As G begins to suspect her of playin’ him, he pulls the reins he keeps on her even tighter. If she’s ever to escape and get a life of her own she must find a way to start stashing away some of G’s cash. But doing that under G’s watchful eye is a challenge she might not live up to–especially when her appetite tempts her with the deadliest desire of all: G’s very own son. . . .

OFF THE CHAIN!.......2007-10-16
A young female forced to watch out for her younger brother makes grown woman decisions in their survival. What seems to be the perfect way to raise her brother and give him every opportunity to "be somebody" while experiencing her own sexual desires as a woman should...reality slaps miss thang in the face. I could relate to her in so many ways and although she made some decisions that messed her up in the end in some ways...i understood why she took the risks she did. DEFINITELY A PAGE TURNER TO THE VERY END...NOIRE...YOU GOT ME HOOKED!
Lawd have mercy!!!.......2007-10-01
G-Spot
Can I say, "oh, my goodness". I am so sorry that I let this book sit on my bookshelf for the months that it did before I started reading it. This book was a quick read. This book was amazing.
Juicy Mo is a nineteen year old girl who wasn't given an opportunity to be a young lady, a woman. Upon her grandmother's death, she quickly shuffled from one house to another - Grandma's a little girl, to Granite McKay's (G), her man who ruled his thrown with an iron fist, as a woman.
Juicy Mo was forced to live a life, if that is what you called it, alongside G. G, a tyrant to say the least, is dirty. The beatings, the drugs, the club, the lack of sexual drive, the mystery behind his missing wife, and ultimately the events surrounding his son.
There is so much that I want to spill about Juicy, Gino, Jimmy, G and his crew...but you have to read it for yourself. Believe me when I say that you won't be able to put this book down. Noire did the damn thing. I am definitely reading the rest of this author's books.
Definitely had me hooked..........2007-09-11
Let me just say, I got this book last week and wanted to have it as a book to read on the train to/from work. However, last night I just couldn't do it. I was half way through the book. Next thing I knew it was 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 1am then finally 2am when I finished the book. I'm usually a fast reader but I had to keep going over certain parts of the book because I couldn't believe what I was reading. Like some readers, I found myself, laughing aloud, getting teary eyed and sitting with my mouth open in shock.
Although, when I finished the book I found it kind of difficult to go to sleep. Now I am not no punk but I replayed the last chapters in my mind and that would have kept me up til 5am.
This book overall was definitely a page turner. I want to read Noire's other novels for myself, that's just how I am. I get discounts anyway lol sorry Noire. I'm upset though, cause this book was such a page turner I don't have nothing to read today on the way home lol.
Good read Noire, keep up the good work. I agree that it's not for the faint at heart but there aren't too many erotica labeled books that are.
G stands for GRIMEY!!!!.......2007-08-03
This book was officially off the chain!!! Noire did the damn thing.. Its a page turner that leaves you reading each page to happpen next... Its a good book and its coming HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as well as Candy Licker....
Go ahead and put this one on ya wish list!!!!!
Awsome Book.......2007-07-10
Who ever compared this book to "Addicted" and "The Coldest Winter Ever" hit it right on the edge.Once I started this book I could not put it down from wondering what G was going to do Juicy next. I hate what happened to her brother but wish she could have been the one to take G out. Really good book.I hope the other books from this author or just as good.He might replace my favorite author(Z**E).

Female Ejaculation and the G-Spot.......2007-07-03
This was an awesome book, I would highly reccomend it for all ladies once they have reached puberty. It is very informative and knowledgable in the female body and ejaculation!
Female Ejaculation and the G-Spot: Not Your Mother's Orgasm Book! (Positively Sexual).......2007-06-28
This is a very interesting book. I have know about female ejaculation for 15 years now. I just love to help women get to this point in their sexual life. With my new girlfriend, I am not able to bring her to this type of orgasm yet, so I thought that this book might help. As soon as I received it, and showed it to her, she took it from me and is reading it right now. She said that she should practise on her own in the beginning, according to the book. She is not done with the book, but everything I've told her what happens and how to make it happen, was confirmed in the book. When I have her close to the ejaculation point, she cannot quite relax yet to let it happen. By the time she finishes the book, she'll be ready! It is just nice to be able to read and learn this valuable, exciting, fun, wet and sexy thing to do with/for your partner! Get it or you won't GET IT!
Fantastic, Positive, Encouraging, Supportive!!!!!.......2007-05-13
Excellent book!! Very easy to read and written by a woman who obviously cares very deeply about true femininity and honouring beauty in all women. Very encouraging and following the "process" [...]
Most informative book on female orgasm!.......2007-02-15
This book completely describes all three types of female orgasm. Making it easy for any man or woman to try on their partner. It even tells about the history of female orgasm and what some cultures believe about female ejaculation. The book simply describes how to ejaculate with and without orgasms. Great read! Highly recommend. After reading this book all other female sexuality books will not come close to comparing.

Great learning book for toddlers.......2007-02-07
"Where's Spot" is a terrific read-along book. My son loves to lift each flap to look for Spot. Now that he know the book so well he makes the sound of each animail hiding, allowing for a secondary learning experience.
Our favorite book!.......2007-01-16
This has been a favorite book of all 3 of our kids. Throughout the book we are searching for Spot in different spaces in the house (Is Spot under the bed??
No.
) My kids have learned several animal noises and the word, "no" from the simple, sweet plot. Highly recommend for babies and toddlers.
Where's Spot.......2007-01-09
Spot books are very appealing to the young child. They can't wait to read the book.
Really keeps their attention.......2006-11-13
When I read this book to my 16-month old twins they get so excited. Each page has a flap to lift while searching for "Spot." They can hardly contain themselves until they can lift the next flap. They fight over who gets to do it on each page. I highly recommend this book. One negative for me, after reading this book a few times, they really picked up on the word, NO. Then again, aren't all kids this age eventually going to learn that word?
Spot is so much fun.......2006-11-11
My son just turned three and has LOVED this book for the last four months since we got it. He wants to read it all the time and practically has it memorized. He LOVES lifting the flaps to see who's underneath.
