Only if you have doubts.......2007-08-01
This book will answer all your questions about training your dog but won't teach you much about how to do it.
Great intro to clicker training.......2007-02-19
I've known about clicker training for years now, but I always dismissed it as a valid training method. I didn't see how you could reliably train a dog when you were dependent on a clicker and food treats. After reading this book I've had all my questions answered.
Melissa Alexander fully explains all aspects of clicker training, as well as some of the concepts of operant conditioning. The book is laid out in a Q & A format and each question has a sidebar with related questions to refer to. I found this feature incredibly useful as the questions in the sidebar were nearly always questions that had already popped into my head. She also offers quotes and success stories that are both encouraging and humorous (like the dog who unintentionally learned to put her head in a box instead of her toy). The sections covering reinforcement and punishment was very clear and really helped me to understand why this training method works so well.
While I wouldn't recommend this book as a stand-alone clicker manual (it's mainly about theory; not much on training specific behaviors), it's an excellent book for what it is. Definitely something you should add to your bookshelf if you're new to clicker training.
Wonderful Book.......2007-01-17
I had read a number of books on Clicker Training, all of which were helpful to varying degrees, before I read Melissa Alexander's Click for Joy! As I read Click for Joy!, I realized this would have been the very best book to read first, as it covered all my questions so completely. Of course, it was a great book to read after having read all the other books I've read for the same reason. The way the author has organized the material is very helpful for all kinds of mind sets. Someone who wants to read the book through from A to Z gets great foundation before going onto more techical information, but if you are like me, when I read about something, I tend to have all kinds of questions that I'd like to address right now. Ms. Alexander has organized each page with cross references to more information on particular subjects on that page. The language is easy to understand, as though you are having a personal visit with Melissa. She also has a chapter explaining in detail how to train a number of basic behaviors to perfection... very detailed explanations. After going through these basic behaviors, she explains how to organize your own plan for trainng other behaviors. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Clicker Training.
I have found Peggy Tilman's book, Clicking with Your Dog, Step-by-Step in Pictures, to be a great companion book to Click for Joy! because it goes into picture detail for many more behaviors beyond the basic behaviors in Melissa Alexander's book. IF a person is limited in book funds and wants to understand clicker training, these are the two books I recommend.
Goof Proof Your Clicking.......2006-08-16
What a great way to see what potential you have for correcting a mistake before you do it. I am training two pups at once. Sure enough, as soon as one of them gets it, the other does too. So, if I make a mistake they will both learn it. This book handles the individuality of each dog and lets you see ways to better your abilities by zeroing in on potential problems before they occur. I am using it with the excellent Clicking with your Dog book and think the set makes a perfect combination for the joy of clickertraining. Also, little hints like what kind of treats to use, alternates to food, etc. make this full of useful surprises. Also, the advice on how to make the behavior "perfect" lets you know how far to push each activity before moving on to the next. Great book!
An excellent training book!.......2006-08-10
This book is excellent in every way. Melissa Alexander writes in a style that is both substantial and understandable and this is one of the most user-friendly books I have ever read.
I am definitely a better clicker trainer as a result of having read this book. From now on when I recommend a book to get started with clicker training, it will be this one.
Book Description
Do Dogs Go To Heaven? is a question the author's Mom asked a number of ministers. Hearing each one give different "shallow" answers, Jean Holmes felt this question deserved a better answer. The Bible does answer her Mom's question with an emphatic "YES!" Long held theology that animals lack souls and spirits is soundly refuted with numerous Bible texts. This book addresses hard questions, like why God required animal sacrifices, in loving truth. The role of animals and the relationship Jesus Christ had with animals is illuminating. This book presents a brilliant tapestry of Bible verses, interwoven with animal behavior and intelligence studies, and anecdotal evidence of animals as intelligent, caring companions here and in the hereafter. Bible accounts of animals as healers, helpers and rescuers are laid against modern narratives. Do Dogs Go to Heaven is very readable, yet crafted with scholarly precision. It is already providing comfort to those who have lost loved animal friends.

amazing and uplifting book........2007-07-14
This book helped me right after my beloved dog, Maxi, passed away. I was afraid I would never see him again, but after reading this book I am assured that he is in heaven. A really awesome book for anyone who is suffering from the lose of a pet.
The Best Book that Deals With Animals in the Bible!!.......2007-05-30
This book is so much better than Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates. Ms. Holms has clearly done her research and has provided numerous examples of what the Bible says about our pets. After loosing my Maltese in February 2007, this book has brought me comfort and was exactly what I was looking for. Anyone can write a book based on their opinion of if animals go to heaven (hence my reference to another book) but Ms. Holms, being a lawer, knows how to research and provide scripture proof of what God thinks of our pets. Perfect for those who want a clear understanding of what the Bible says about our pets. And for those who said they could research this information on their own, yes you could save some money, but you would spend so much TIME looking for the answers yourself (believe me, I've tried). This book already sums it up for us. Thanks Jean!
Do Dogs Go To Heaven?.......2006-08-29
Anyone that has lost a beloved pet like I have, should read this book! It just was so uplifting to know that God has my Chester in Heaven. I can"t say enough about Ms. Holmes book on God"s Creation.
Not uplifting.......2006-05-07
I did not find solace in this book - no tenderness or, in my opinion, understanding of how hurtful the loss of a pet is.
I do not recommend this book.
A Major Psychiatric Help for Me.......2005-11-18
Thanx for writing this book. I have not read it...yet, but have read a lot of entries here. I have lost my German sheperd, Chloe, in early August 2005. She died of old age. I have grand mal epilepsy & have noticed many times that she knew that they were coming on even before I had an aura or not. Sad eyes & all.

Customer Reviews:
An odd answer to, "Where does Blue want to go?".......2007-05-26
This was a clever book, but I found it a little unusual that the answer to, "Where does Blue want to go today?" is school. Usually if one asks their child where they want to go, it would be someplace fun, like mini-golf, bowling, the movies, etc.
great book for toddlers!.......2007-05-16
I bought this for my daughter who is 2 1/2 and she loves it! She reads it everyday and is still excited to find Blue hiding in various places throughout the book. Definitely worth buying!
Let's Play Blue's Clues.......2007-03-02
At 19 months, Jaylon absolutely LOVES this book. Anyone that enjoys the Blue's Clues series will find this book delightful as you play your own game of Blue's Clues. Magenta, Salt and Pepper, Pail and Shovel, they're all there. Even though this book has taken a beaten and some of the flaps are barely hanging in, this is an all time favorite.
Great book!.......2006-09-09
For those who care, this one features Steve. It's also very big.
Like all flap books, an adult should 'prep' the flaps before handing the book over. My 2-year-old son loves this book, although he has ripped out a couple of the flaps, and doesn't quite get the point of some. It also has some cues for adult participation: for example, when you open the flap with Blue's ball behind it, on the back of the flap it says "Now can you find Blue?" - although this is somewhat circular since the flap with Blue asks to find Blue's ball.
She could find this book if it were in Shri Lanka.......2003-10-06
This has been my 2 year old's favorite book since she was 10 months old. Seeing all her friends from Blue's Clues makes it interesting, and the colors are bold and the illustrations just like the show. The jillions of flaps are just what my curious girl needs. Many of the flaps are bent or missing now, but I plan to just buy a new one when it gets too beat up. It's a very large book though, can be hard to tote around when your on outings or trips.
Book Description
It happens all the time. Just when Max’s owner thinks she has him figured out, he exhibits a bewildering fear of the neighbor’s skateboard. Or, despite endless corrections, Bailey still refuses to understand that she doesn’t belong on the leather armchair.
Then there are the dogs that almost always behave appropriately and predictably but can still display a few surprise reactions in situations that disturb their routines. Houseguests might be ruining Buster’s sense of order — taking over his favorite room and distracting his humans from important things like fetch and dinner. And that dog park near Sadie’s new house is terrific, but she might be having a tough time understanding the rules of etiquette.
To all these situations and a hundred more, dog expert Arden Moore provides answers that clearly explain canine actions and reactions, and then helps readers with suggestions for modifying unacceptable behavior. For every canine misdeed, there is a human counter-response to fix the problem. Read about both sides of the story in these friendly questions and answers, taken from real-life situations with real dogs. There is hardly a behavior that will not have dog lovers nodding their heads in recognition.
The Dog Behavior Answer Book will solve the mysteries of canine shoe theft, food guarding, and grass eating for puzzled humans everywhere.

Arden does it again!.......2007-04-04
Thanks to Arden Moore for another insightful book on dog ownership. She really understands the state of mind of dogs and relays her advice in a fun and informative way. The book is filled with cute stories and I especially enjoyed the Q & A format in the book. Who has not had those moments when you look at your dog and say "what is my ziggy thinking???" This book is a great read, very informative and I really look forward to Arden Moore's next project. Thanks again Arden!
It's much more than just one-paragraph insights.......2007-02-03
If your new pet is exhibiting puzzling behaviors, it's time to get a copy of The Dog Behavior Answer Book - which should also be in the holdings of any serious public lending library. It offers a question/answer format for quick lookup and covers everything from destructive behaviors to funny quirks of habit, providing dog owners with plenty of psychological insights into dog habits, needs, and reactions. It's much more than just one-paragraph insights: pages of explanation explore the psyche of the dog and how it relates to its world.
Something to WAG about!!!.......2007-01-22

I have found it - an easy-to-read, complete pocket-size reference book on what to do when my dog does things that confuse or frustrate me. Arden has done a great job of bridging the communication gap between people and dogs. Thanks, Arden. I feel like I know my dog better and I can be a better guardian to her. I highly recommend this book to both new dog guardians and to long-time dog lovers.

easy way to review casually.......2007-08-20
I am using these books now, when I am in the early stages of studying and not really up to regimented hard core studying. I just like to casually look at questions and see if I can answer them, and this is great for that
I have heard these questions are harder than the ones on the real test, I am hoping its true
Good Practice.......2000-01-20
These books are helpful and a good way to study for boards. Many people do not know how to approach board review - with these books you can set yourself a goal of 50 or 100 questions per day. Answers include explanations so you're not forced to look up wrong answers and try to determine where got confused. Plus, the actual board exam questions are actually easier than these. A good tune-up!
Book Description
This fun book launches our new series, Kids' FAQs, which will explore topics kids really want to know about. Everything Dog is not a typical dog book-it takes questions gathered from kids all across the country and answers them in an informal, kid-friendly way. What's a dog's tail for? How come my dog never seems to watch TV with me? Can dogs remember stuff? These are the kinds of questions kids have, and author and journalist Marty Crisp has carefully researched the answers and shares them here. Did you know that dogs date back 30 million years? Did you know that dogs whose ears perk up can hear better, while those whose ears droop down can smell better? This debut book in the Kids' FAQs series is perfect for young readers who are animal lovers or who are looking for report ideas, and for every kid who's always asking 'Why?'

Well writen and informative. It's organized into sections that make for good reading for any age group.
it really is everything dog!.......2006-03-06
In this book, it has so many different facts about dogs, i don't even know where to start.
Marty Crisp talks about why dogs like people, how long their memory span is, and what dogs have cold wet noses for, including many other things. i am a big fan of this book. I know a lot about dogs, and their one of my fave animals, but i still learned quite a few good facts about them.
I highly recomend this book to anyone who likes dogs, and also ckeck out Everything Cat and Everything Dolphin too!

Questions Answered.......2002-07-24
This book is good to have while training a puppy or getting accustomed to a new puppy. Every question I come up with I can refer to the book and bang my answer is there. I don't have to call the vet or trainer for every little problem or question. This book has helped me train my 14 week old chocolate lab with no problems at all. Best wishes.
Book Description
Dog owners will laugh as they page through this book, but theyÂ'll also find a wealth of solid information on canine behavior and training. Dog ownership can be a great pleasureÂuntil the day when RoverÂ's owner comes home to find living room cushions shredded, while neighbors complain that the pooch barked and cried during the entire time it was left alone. Here at last is the book that tells dog owners the facts that most pet manuals leave out. It deals with many pitfalls and problems that some owners face in the course of day-to-day life with their dog, and presents sensible and humane solutions to them all. For instance, what if your dog. . . is eating too much? ... refuses to eat? ... soils the floors with urine or feces? ... jumps all over visitors? ... destroys rugs and furniture? Or does any one of dozens more things that nobody wants to put up with? These and many other behavior problems are discussed in a series of more than 130 clearly numbered and humorously illustrated entries. Readers will also find question-and-answer tables filled with expert advice in clear, jargon-free language. More than 300 color photos and illustrations.
