      Book Description

This book outlines one of the vast and fruitful fields in protozoan microbiology and formulates the principles of obtaining biologically active substances from cultures of Protozoa. The correlation between composition of selected flagellates' cell components (polyunsaturated fatty acids, membrane surface glycophospolipids, intercellular polysaccharide, beta-1, 3-glycan) and their biological effects in experimental animals, is the main topic of the book. As the book's content shows, the Protozoa are gradually acquiring their place among traditional producers of biologically active substances. The row of producers of BAS can be extended by including non-parasitic representatives of the Protozoa (the phylum Sarcomastigophora). Representatives of the phylum Ciliophora are emerging. This book has been addressed to undergraduate and postgraduate students and young scientists to provide orientation in the field, especially in the sequence of studies which lead to obtaining biologically active substances and primary evaluation of their biological effects. This book may also be of interest to pharmacologists and manufacturers.

            5 out of 5 stars Very Useful.......2007-08-09

I loved the story like approach of this book. Very informative and a very nice read. This was my first rough guide and I don't think I will buy any other kind of travel guide again.

5 out of 5 stars Rough Guide worth while.......2006-08-18

This is the third Rough Guide I have bought to help me plan my trips. And as usual it offers very good guide to the best places to have fun while staying on budget. The chapter about San Diego is especially good and I urge you to follow the books guidance and go to the Cheese Shop. Great Sandwiches. All in all a good travelling companion and introduction to California

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps the best travel guide for California I've seen.......2006-05-20

It may seem a bit strange, but I am a californian and I have flipped through a great number of travel guides on california. It's a long story, but basically, I was trying to see what series were the best and most trustworthy, and what better way to test this than to see how accurate it is about places I know very well? Without a doubt, this one was the best of all of them. Occasionally it's recommendations for restaurants, etc, were not the ones I would have recommended, but when it came to places to see, things to do, and etc, it never went wrong.

It was especially good when it came to the things that are often overlooked or not mentioned but are a thousand times better than the usual tourist traps.

            5 out of 5 stars Please... Anaheim?.......2004-09-04

I don't know anything about this book, but please... Anaheim?

I have lived in California for 20+ years, and in my opinion Anaheim is one of the worst cities in California and should be skipped completely. Barstow is head and shoulders above Anaheim...

If you really want to see the best city in California, however, visit Bishop...

1 out of 5 stars guide book gives an unfair review of anaheim,CA.......2002-03-03

I think the book has some strange opinions. It actually likes Barstow,CA better than Anaheim,CA. Very strange. Purchase not recommended.

From the supplier: The teaching of economics in mainstream economics courses is criticized from a feminist-institutionalist perspective. The concepts of neoclassical economics are too abstract and focus on linear, logical and rational analyses. Students are unable to relate how economic concepts are used to analyze economic issues and social problems. The problems inherent in economics education are described as four 'walls.' These are the problems in pedagogy, content, methodology and definition.

From the supplier: Classroom displays may be used to enhance research and thinking skills in students. These may be used for special occasions throughout the year. A display for Women's History Month may be varied to fit primary and intermediate classes. This display is arranged using photos or posters of accomplished women and attaching envelopes below each picture. Students may be asked to research facts about the person, write these on slips of paper and place them in the correponding envelope. Older students may be asked to write short reports when all the facts are revealed.

From the supplier: Microeconomics courses can become more effective venues for teaching the importance of distributional issues in economics. Distributional issues can be taught through an institutionalist perspective via four 'core concepts.' These core concepts, both described within traditional and institutional perspectives, are the definition of economics, performance criteria, the role of values and the role of the government. It was suggested that institutional economics presented a more comprehensive discussion of the nature and complexities of distributive issues in economics.

                                Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A vital addition to any collection of books on design or composition.......2005-10-24

Circumstances are such that I've been forced into a crash course-type study of composition for the past two months. I've been buying many books and checking them out from the library as well. I find it amazing that there is so much original information in each book, given that they are all discussing approximately the same thing. My conclusion about this aspect is that composition is an extremely complex and rich subject. (That fact is probably supremely obvious to any seasoned artists reading this.)

"Visual Forces" by Benjamin Martinez is one of the books that covers many design AND composition topics well and also has much that the other books I've read so far didn't cover. Or at least you don't have to dig to find the information. The payoff for time invested is high. With two pages per topic and excellent illustrations, the point is made and then you're ready to go on to the next point which is logically connected.

One two-page topic that stands out is the one on using depth cues to control eye movement. It uses an illustration that shows how the eye rests briefly at each spot where a different level of depth occurs. With two pages per topic and 228 pages, Visual Forces is a great value and a vital addition to any collection of books on design and/or composition. The concepts it illuminates can be applied to many design disciplines, including furniture design, drawing, painting, sculpture, multimedia creations and so on.
