Customer Reviews:
Great book for young readers.......2007-09-26
We bought this for our 5yr old at a Scholastic book fair (much cheaper) and she loves it. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is cute and flows well. This is a great book for beginning readers who've mastered their basic sight words and are ready for something a little more. The rhyming verse and the visual clues, along with the simple sentence structure all provide great clues for figuring out new words. It also makes the book easy to read out loud.
love the bear books.......2007-07-27
This is another great bear book. My kids love them and I love reading them to the kids. The pictures are so nice, as well. A great addition.
Love it!.......2007-05-10
I bought this book for my son a few weeks ago, and all my kids love it just as much as it's 3 predecessors. I admit, I'm the real fanatic in the family when it comes to the Bear Snores On series...I love the rhythm of the text and when the kids join in with the catch phrase that each book has "and the bear snores on", "the bear wants more", or, in this case "who?"...even though, they all know who the new friend is. Fabulous addition to your collection.
love these books........2007-03-31
This one is not my favorite. We love "Bear Snores on" and "Bear wants more". I like the rhyming and stories better than this one, but this one is cute too. we also like the Christmas one- "Bear Wakes Up". My (almost) 3 and 5 yr olds love all of these and we read them all the time. the illustrations are great. we learn about all the different animals. they love to "aaaachooo" in Bear snores on.
No TV, Just Bear Books.......2007-02-07
Our girls would rather read the Bear books than watch TV! It's the best compliment a books series can receive isn't it?

Customer Reviews:
Cute children's book.......2007-10-08
My son loves this book. The drawings are very colorful which makes it nice to read to even small children. It has a sweet, funny message about friendship. It is not a book about the true meaning of Christmas which is all about Jesus, of course. However, it is about friendship and love which are what Christmas is about as well. Therefore, I believe it is a cute, fun book for kids ages 2-8.
You don't want to go to sleep at Christmas-time, until you read this!.......2007-07-31
This is one of my favorite Christmas Books. I just love the illustrations, and the rhyming text. Of all the Bear boks so far, I find that this one is my favorite. I love how sweet the relationship is between Bear and his friends. Another reason I like it, is this: What child doesn't, at some point in his life, try to stay up all night to catch a glimpse at Santa. I think every child can relate to Bear's desire to stay up all night.
My favorite part of the book is when Bear's friends surprise him with a very warm and thoughtful gift!
I think you'll want to stay up too, and be sure to read this one to your children!
Great seasonal read.......2007-03-15
I was hesitant to get this book because we really liked the Bear Wants More. I was afraid we'd be disapointed. After all - it's a holiday season book and what could you put into that!
We were not disapointed. In fact - we quite enjoyed it. And my kindergardener read this one by himself. We enjoyed the picutres and the story equally.
A Beautiful Christmas Story.......2007-02-07
Our girls love how everyone works together to create a beautiful Christmas. It's a great story with beautiful artwork. The message is so simple and wonderful.
Hard to beat the magic of "Bear Snores On"............2007-02-05
.....but this one comes close. This time the wanna-be hibernator is kept up by his friends to help get ready for, and then enjoy, Christmas. The story is perfect winter-time reading with your whosits as it follows Bear and his buddies on their Christmas Eve adventures. And the bottom line is that when the ankle biter demographic gives it their "thumbs up" it has to be good. Highly recommended.

Unique book and the Great Bear continues to be threatened.......2006-12-12
This is fantastic book. The threats to the Great Bear Rainforest are increasing in 2007 and support is vitally needed. To see what is happening, go to the Raincoast Conservation Society web page and see what major threats to the Great Bear are coming in 2007.
Wow. An amazing book about an amazing place........2005-07-18
For years, I had always heard snippets here and there about the Great Bear Rainforest of Northwestern British Columbia, supposedly even more beautiful, wild, untamed, and much larger than other gorgeous temperate rainforest locales like Olympic National Park in Washington. But I didn't really know much about it. Where exactly was it? What does it look like? Is any of it protected in province or federal park land? And many more questions.
Then, years later, I stumbled upon this book. WOW. That about sums it up. This is an amazing book about a place of transcendent, almost ethereal beauty. This book is an enchanting mix of imminently readable and interesting text and absolutely stunning photographs. It almost makes you feel like you are there, immersed in this incredible rain drenched emerald cathedral of trees.
The Great Bear Rainforest is located on the British Columbia coast. It starts a few miles north of Lund and extends all the way north in Canada to the BC's northernmost limit, around Port Rupert, and extends only a few miles inland. It is home to the largest remaining contiguous temperate rain forest anywhere in the world. You probably already know this, but a temperate rain forest is much different than a tropical rain forest because of climate. Temperate rain forests are cool and moist, whereas tropical ones are hot and moist. Anyway, enough of the obvious.
What I really like about this book is that it isn't a condescending piece of fluff, and it gave me *exactly* what I wanted from it. Even though it's no easily readable, it is no fluff piece that waxes prettily poetic but doesn't really tell you anything. It takes you on an incredibly detailed tour of nearly every major rain forest valley in the Great Bear Rainforest. And it doesn't just name-drop valleys that have no meaning to you, it provides you with maps that show exactly where it is that they are talking about. I think this is the greatest feature of the book, I've read too many books about geographical places that tell you the names of certain interesting areas, but you don't quite know where they are. Not so with this book.
Not only that, the book covers a wide range of topics concerning The Great Bear Rainforest. Ecology, economic pressures, animal and plant life, geography, even a lot of interesting history and contemporary issues concerning the First Nation (who we in the U.S. refer to as Native American) tribes who traditionally lived (and still live) in and around the Great Bear Rainforest. I found the parts about the Haida tribe to be particularly edifying. All of these facts and themes are woven into the narrative of the authors' journey through the Great Bear Rainforest (which spans many years) incredibly seamlessly - you might think it's difficult to talk about the flora and fauna of the area while giving a history lesson on the Tlinglit people, but like I said, this point interweaves all points flawlessly. It also does social justice by presenting an unflinching look at the environmental horrors that await the Great Bear Rainforest through resource extraction and recreation at the hands of an apathetic public if current trends remain unchecked.
And then there are the photos. Gorgeous. Vast stands of huge, majestic trees, so much green it's almost blinding; a spirit bear chowing down on salmon in an unbelievable action shot; stunning shots of a coastline where fjord and mountain come together; and of course, the grand British Columbia ocean itself.
This book is a real gem. It's crime more people haven't had a chance to go through it. Read it. Take your time, don't just skim through it and goggle over the pictures. Trust me, the time will be worth it, you'll be glad you did. A must-have for anyone who considers themselves an environmentalist, a nature lover, and especially for people who have stood in awe in a temperate rain forest and said "I need to know more."
A Unique Journey AND A Desperate Plea.......2000-12-27
This book is written as a journal of a sailing voyage. Although the authors had previously visited the remarkable areas they photograph and describe six times before, the seventh visit is chronicled in these pages. Thus there is a great depth of knowledge and experience inherent to this work which transforms a simple if elegant journal into a powerful, somewhat doleful, environmental monograph.
This is a beautifully done book with many fascinating photographs of rainforest topography and the diverse life forms which abide therein. The accompanying text is well-written and consistently informative and interesting. But the overarching theme here is that pristine environments which are critical to the survival of untold species of flora and fauna are in jeopardy. Grave jeopardy. Moreover, the McAllisters take great pains to point out that the small islands of preserved and protected ecosystem created in compromise between commercial interests and environmentalists are insufficent to protect wildlife (bears, for example) that depend upon an interlinked vastness of unspoiled terrain in which to flourish.
So this book is as much an alarm and a plea for action as it is a wondrous presentation of its picturesque subject matter. As such, it is urgent reading for those of us concerned about the ravages unleashed when a society values short-term economic advantage (as when untouched river valleys are clear-cut by logging companies) over the work nature takes eons to complete.
A must of bear lovers, intersting facts, great photos.......2000-05-02
This is a wonderful book for both nature and bear lovers alike. It is packed with beautiful color photos. Many interesting facts about the wildlife & plants of the area are detailed in the captions.
The landscape photos feature vibrant wildflowers, ancient forests, & mountains. There are also many remarkable pictures of several bear types. I loved the close-up shot of a bear eating a fish & another of a sprit bear on a log.
Stunning photos of some other animals include a puffin close-up, a bald eagle mother with baby, & an elephant seal gathering. If you can tear yourself away from the pictures, the text is equally impressive.
The authors tell of their experiences while exploring the rainforest. They also discusses the environmental concerns of the area. Journal entries from the trip are scatted throughout the book.
Keep sacred places secret while we can.......2000-02-01
A powerful book on this special place. But, now she's discovered

My review is a note to the author!
Dear Karma Wilson,
Thank-you! We love bear, mouse, badger, wren, raven, hare, owl, mole and any other amazing critters we have forgotten. Your bear stories have beautiful rhythm. My daughter got her first bear books at the age of 4, and at 7 she still loves them.
Thanks!

Another wonderful Bear book!!!.......2007-10-01
I love the Bear books and I have every one in the series. I started getting them for my older son when the series first started with Bear Snores On and now I'm reading them all to my younger son as well. Sometimes we have a Bear Book Marathon and read all of them right in a row, it's so much fun! I definitely recommend not only this book but the entire Bear Book series - Bear Snores On, Bear Wants More, Bear Stays up for Christmas, Bear's New Friend and Bear Feels Sick.
Love that Bear!.......2007-09-28
My 22 month old son and I love this book. We started with Bear Snores On and we really enjoy Karma Wilson's beautiful verse, which can be read in so many different ways. My son (being sick right now) can really empathize with Bear and his friends. Our favorite part about this book is that when the tables inevitably turn, Bear is enthusiastic about taking care of his friends too. Beautifully illustrated by Jane Chapman again!
Another adorable bear book.......2007-09-15
All of Karma Wilson's bear books are sweet and endearing and teach about friendship. Her books are about the only ones I trust to read to my son without previewing ahead of time for inappropriate content. In this one, bear's friends take care of him when he feels ill and he returns the favor when they become sick. It's wonderful that "Bear's New Friend" owl is here. The illustrations by Jane Chapman are lovely. These books are classics and should be a part of every young child's library.
love the bear books!!!!.......2007-09-08
can't get enough of the bear books! loved seeing the owl in this one... my kids pointed him out straight away. thanks karma! now get to writing some more adventures for bear and his clan!

lovely and funny retelling of the Goldilocks story.......2002-02-16
A curious bear cub leaves his mother to investigate a cabin deep in the forest. He investigates bowls, chairs and beds before falling asleep -- just in time for the family to return from a walk. Beautiful and humorous illustrations are the star of this textless retelling. Our two-and-a-half-year old loves this book -- asking for it several times a day -- participating in the 'reading', laughing, feeling indignant for the little girl and her broken things. This is a charming storybook.
A charming twist on a classic children's story........1999-06-24
This book turns the story of Goldilocks around. A small bear invades Goldilocks house. It is a wordless picture book that can be used to inspire young students in creative writing, or encourage pre-schoolers imagination. The illustrations are delightful.
a great "read" for little ones.......1998-11-20
This retelling of the Goldilocks story is a big hit with my three-year-old. Without words, the illustrations show a little bear's adventures in a little girl's cabin. While she and her parents are out the bear investigates the porridge, the chairs and the beds. The family returns and the drawings of the little girl's indignant reaction to her spilled porridge and broken chair are priceless. The little bear is discovered in the little girl's bed and is chased away, returning to his waiting mother bear. My son loves to narrate the story for me. The illustrations tell the story perfectly and the humor of the role reversal certainly was not lost on him.

"Great Ghosts".......2000-01-16
When our 4 year old son developed a fear of "things that go bump" in the night, and began imagining ghosts coming out of every piece of furniture in the room, I hauled out this book. We had fun playing "ghost" with each other, and over several days (and nights) of discussion, gradually discovered the fun in being scared, and the difference between fear of the real and imaginary.

I sent this book to my 8 year old niece. She loved it! She said it was her favorite book. She found it enjoyable to read and very informative. It's a very good educational book for young readers.
More enlightening than you may think.......2001-04-03
A great little book that is ideal for reading to kids aged 4-7. It will teach them (and you) facts that you never knew before, while keeping your child thoroughly entertained. Vivid pictures, great characters, and buying it puts money towards a charity. My only grief, the story could be a little more active, but hey that makes it just the story for bedtime.

Customer Reviews:
SAME NAME.......2005-05-28
My name is Jason Everett, so I found it quite funny that I stumbled across a book for my children that held my name as the main "bear"... So of course my children love the book, as do I.
Classic.......2002-03-24
I still have my original paperback copy of "I'm Terrific," that I bought in the first or second grade through scholastic. I am now 29 years old and I still love reading this book when I visit my father's house. I would highly recommend this book for children and it's not a bad read for adults either!:)
WONDERFUL!.......2000-03-22
I can't believe I found this book! It was one of my favorites as a little girl back in the 70's, and now I'm buying a new copy for my kids! I'll never forget asking every night at bedtime to hear the story about Jason Everett Bear and his gold stars. It's a keeper!
A delightful; highly recommended read for parents & children.......1999-01-25
Since I am the first to review this book on line, I am assuming that it is the same as the original "I'm Terrific" first copyrighted in 1977. My daughter, in her first grade class, read the most books that year and her teacher gave her this wonderful book as a reward. That was in 1984. She is now twenty-one and she and I have read the book together many times; the last being about one month ago. The "star" of the book, Jason Everett Bear is quite self absorbed in the beginning but in the end he learns a valuable lesson about sharing and friendship and how to just be "yourself". Our favorite children's book ever! The illustrations are "terrific" also.
