Customer Reviews:
Buy the updated version.......2007-06-27
I recently made the mistake of buying this edition. The reviews are totally outdated. Also, Frommers is not good about giving specific addresses of attractions, etc. They give intersections and cross streets instead of the actual address, which is not the most convenient option if you are using a GPS.
Lone Star State.......2005-10-23
I found this guide to be quite thorough when it came to the major cities, granted it is not exactly a Rick Steves guide to Texas, but it did hit upon the most popular attractions and it got Dallas and Houston about right and I am very familiar with both cities, I really know very little about West Texas so I'll defer to the other reviewer on the guides shortcomings on accomedations and such out there, but if you are going to Austin, San Antonio, Houston, or Dallas-Ft. Worth, I think you will find this guide helpful, and easy to read.
A decent travel guifde for Texas.......2003-12-02
This is one of the few guidebooks one can find on Texas that is from a reputable company(the other is the lonely planet guide). I found this book wholly inferior in giving accommodation and restaurant choices in West Texas, particularly from Midland to El Paso and the Big Bend Area. Although some choices were provided it seemed that the book passed over many fine dining establishments. Nevertheless the book does have a wealth of information on Texas but it seems it needs some updating. Many of the phone numbers need new area codes. A marginal travel guide but one of the few choices.
Book Description
A complete guide to two of Texas's most diverse and exciting cities
* Shows visitors how to have a great time in San Antonio, a multicultural city with a rich history (the Alamo) and lots of contemporary attractions (including over forty golf courses)
* Reveals San Antonio's most memorable experiences-from a stroll along the San Antonio River to a mariachi mass at Mission San Jose-and offers intriguing side trips to the Texas Hill Country
* Takes visitors to the best of Austin, America's second fastest-growing city and the "Live Music Capital of the World," with more than 150 music clubs
* Explains how to make an Austin visit unforgettable, from visiting the state capital and LBJ Library to listening to blues at Antone's, hiking and biking in city parks, and watching the bats at Congress Avenue Bridge

HEART OF TEXAS.......2007-10-14
These Frommmer guides are very good, and this one on Austin and San Antonio is no different. I am very familiar with these two cities and I find the suggestions in this guide to be on the whole very accurate. Though the hotel and restaurant sections are top loaded with the most famous and expensive, some smaller properties and resturants are not included. The sites section however is perfect, the guides descriptions and ratings are close to perfect. What I really appreciate about the Frommer guides is that you really feel like they have researched the subject, granted that should be a prerequisite in a travel guide, but unfortunitely in my experience that is not always the case.
Another Winner from Frommers.......2005-10-27
This is at least our 6th Frommer's book. We simply won't travel anywhere on vacation without one. Mainly we use it for restaurant recommendations to avoid the tourist traps and to find the (good) local museums, zoos, etc.
We have yet to be disappointed.
The maps are also very helpful in planning the day's out so one can get the most out of each destination.
In addition to the San Antonio & Austin guides, we have also purchased and used (in no particular order): San Francisco, Arizona, Europe, Washington DC, and France.
The best thing one can say about all of the Frommer's books is their methodical order. All of the books are essentially built upon the same template.
First they tell you how to get there (airlines, airports, trains, train stations, etc.); then where to stay. Once you're there where to eat. And now that the essentials have been taken care of they get into the attractions and shopping. Simply a wonderful easy to follow format. And physically they easily fit in any small carry case and do not weigh a ton so you can carry it around with you.
If travelling abroad (and you do not speak that country's language very well), I also recommend getting the "Jiffy Phrase Books." They give you enough to make an intelligent sentence or two, which is all it takes to gain the respect of the local merchants.

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS.......2007-10-11
These frommer guides are well put together, at least the writers seem to have actually visited these two cities. Im very familiar with both cities and i have to say for the tourist, Austin does not hold a candle to San Antonio..it's sort of like comparing Baton Rouge to New Orleans. I mean dont get me wrong id rather live in Austin, but if your going to these cities for fun, spend like two days in Austin, then make your way to San Antonio...fast,,,the riverwalk alone is worth spending several days. As for this guide, I like the way it's layed out and the ratings of sites is very accurate. The hotel and restaurant guides are pretty basic, but it gives you an general overview. If you have never visited this area...be sure to ride out into the Hill Country, all the German Heritage and scenic vista's is not to be missed...
Great guide to San Antonio.......2002-12-31
I took this guide on a first time visit to San Antonio and found it invaluable. Not only was it up to date with info on the latest hotels, attractions, and restaurants, but it contains lots of asides containing interesting information on the different sites that added to our enjoyment at visiting these sites. A first rate job!

Book Description
Here are 32 of the most mysterious Celtic mandalas, embedded with secrets and symbols. There’s something hypnotic and almost revelatory about filling in your own colorful interpretations of the intricate spiral designs—and as you make the ancient serpent motifs come alive, you may experience the same sense of primordial power that inspired the Celts to treat them as sacred objects.
Customer Reviews:
Mandalas of the celts.......2007-02-03
The book arrived very quickly and was in excellent conditon. I am very happy with my purchase.
Very basic..........2005-08-12
...and basic is good for kids as an introduction to mandalas. Don't get me wrong, I have had fun and relaxation with Mandalas of the Celts, but I guess I was thinking it would be more complex. I'm not disappointed, just surprised. It is worth what you pay for it.

Customer Reviews:
Modern mandalas.......2002-05-30
This gives a clear idea of Celtic mandalas, especially inspiring for modern artists. Clear illustrations, useful colours. Very helpful for developing an understanding of the precision and intricacies used in a modern mandala of this sort.
Explains Celtic Symbolism.......1999-08-24
I am an English teacher and used this book as a resource for teaching Arthurian legend. It was helpful in explaining the symbolism of different elements and patterns. I used it in accordance with THE ART OF CELTIA and KING ARTHUR'S RETURN, both by Courtney Davis. The students love looking at the art work-it helps create interest!

Celtic Mandala 2008 wall calendar presents the magical weavings of Welsh artist Jen Delyth in calendar form. Jen's work is founded in her deep connection to her Celtic heritage. She creates intricate drawings then collages them with her nature photography, further symbolizing the connection to the natural world. Sample Caption: HOUNDS of ANNWN Cwn Annwn - the Hounds of Annwn - are a pack of red-eared, snow-white spectral hounds from the Celtic Otherworld. In Welsh folklore Arawn, Lord of Annwn, rides with his pack of hounds through the skies in autumn, winter, and early spring. Annwn is the Celtic Otherworld, the world behind the veil/mask. The Hounds of Annwn haunt the fringes of this world as the Wild Hunt and are feared to be the Hell Hounds whose baying is heard on the howling winds...

celtic mandelas earth mysteries& mthology.......2001-11-08
i am a big fan of celtic art and i did not find this calandar disapointing jen delyth is one of my favourite celtic artists she is from wales but uses all the celtic versions which is good if you are from scotland like myself. the colours are very deep and vibrant i thing you dont get so much with non mythology art. they use the original colo- urs that the ancients used wich makes celtic art very mysterious . there is also a good list of festival dates and not just pagan ones christian jewish islam you name it they are there too. the photos are about 12 inches square and are ideal for framing so it is not a throw away calandar, my pirticular favourite is the sun god lleu or lugh or lug depending on whare you come from, but there is something for every one in hear i have been recomending this calandar since i received it, and no one has said they did not like this. Partial caption:
Saint Melangell - Protector of the Hare: In a remote valley of Wales is the village of Pennant Melangell. According to legend, an Irish princess was arranged in marriage to a chieftan in 607 C.E. However, she had devoted her life to God, and so fled across the sea to find sanctuary, living humbly, sleeping on a bare rock in the woods. One day, the local prince, Brochfael Ysgythrog (the Tusked) was out hunting with his hounds, when they scented a hare which they pursued into a dense thicket. There to the Prince's suprise, in a sunlit clearing, was the beautiful maiden, Melangell, quietly praying as she faced the baying hounds....
