Great Book On Denver.......2005-08-12

THE INSIDERS' GUIDE TO DENVER is a great book that really gives you a feel for Denver and its outlying suburbs, describing where the best shopping is, including most of the area's major malls, as well as where the most desirable neighborhoods, tastiest food, and highest-quality health care are. The section on the radio stations, however, needs to be taken like the humor in AMERICAN WEDDING, 13 GOING ON 30, ALONG CAME POLLY, SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE, THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELLING PANTS, DATE MOVIE, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, HARVARD MAN, WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU, GARFIELD: THE MOVIE, DRIVE ME CRAZY, or GARFIELD: A TALE OF TWO KITTIES for several reasons: KKHK is now KQMT, and classic-rocker KRFX belongs under Rock, not Oldies. Other than this minor quibble however, the book is uniformly great.

BE CAREFUL WITH THE NUMBER OF CHAPTERS .......2006-11-10

It seems that the same book with the same authors, title and year has different editions, one has half the number of chapters of the other so it seems that my daughter will only be able to use for the first half of the year.

A fantastic overview of world history.......2004-09-07

This book is a wonderful overview of world history. It tells you the basics of a subject, and if you are interested you can research more in depth. It goes through the stages of human development, and gives a great description of the cultures involved. I would definetly recommend this book to anyone that asked.

I have used almost every idea in this book. These things really put the responsibility back on the kids. Pinellas County, FL is really into CLS and total quality management. This book gives you all the help you need to change your classroom. I would recommend this book to any teacher!

A "must have" book for the classroom!.......1999-08-14

This book is filled with ideas and concepts that are simple to implement. Best of all, the kids LOVE the things we do from this book. I teach fifth grade and use this book on a daily basis in order to have "Total Quality Management" in my class. The ground rules and expectations started out this school year with a BANG and my students love that they are stockholders in the classroom. They respect each other better than I ever thought imaginable and encourage each other throughout the day! This book should be purchased by every teacher, administrator, and superintendent.

Description:
This paper studies the effects of the economic reforms of 1991 on the Indian manufacturing industries. A translog cost function was used to analyze the production structure in terms of biased technical change and economies of scale. A panel consisting of 121 Indian manufacturing industries from 1981 to 1998 was used in our estimation. We have shown that key industries have experienced capital-using technical change, and the scale effects have been exploited more intensively since the 1991 economic reforms. We also observe total factor productivity (TFP) improvements for most of the industries after the 1991 reform initiatives, which support the evidence of improvements in economic efficiency in key Indian manufacturing industries.

We previously reported that long-term (54 days), repeated intraperitoneal exposure to low doses of tributyltin (TBT; 0.3 mg/kg) inhibited the metabolic activation of co-administered benzo[a]pyrene (BaP; 3 mg/kg) in the Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus); BaP, in turn, stimulated the metabolism and/or excretion of TBT. Here, we report the results of histopathological examinations of liver, kidney and pseudobranch tissue samples originating from these same fish. The results revealed higher lesion incidences at all sampling time points (Days 8, 32 and 56) among BaP-exposed fish compared with fish exposed to either TBT alone or combined with BaP. The severity of lesions like necrosis was also higher in BaP-exposed fish. Moreover, hepatic basophilic foci were observed exclusively in fish exposed to BaP alone. Together, these results provide new evidences that TBT can antagonize BaP toxicity in fish exposed to both pollutants under controlled laboratory conditions. In contrast, BaP does not appear to provide protection against TBT toxicity.

Experiments have been performed to test the stability of vitrified municipal solid waste (MSW) incinerator bottom ash under the presence of bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and plants (corn). The substratum used for the plant growth was a humus-rich soil mixed with vitrified waste. For the first time, information on the stability of waste glasses in the presence of bacteria and plants is given. Results show that inoculated plant samples contained always about two times higher lanthanide and actinide element concentrations. Bacteria support the element transfer since plants growing in inoculated environment developed a smaller root system but have higher trace element concentrations. Compared with the substratum, plants are light rare earth element (LREE) enriched. The vitrified bottom ash has to some extent been corroded by bacteria and plant activities as indicated by the presence of Nd (REE) and Sr from the vitrified waste in the plants. ^8^7Sr/^8^6Sr and ^1^4^3Nd/^1^4^4Nd isotope ratios of plants and soil components allow the identification of the corroded soil components and confirm that bacteria accelerate the assimilation of elements from the vitrified bottom ash. These findings are of importance for landfill disposal scenarios, and similar experiments should be performed in order to better constrain the processes of microbially mediated alteration of the MSW glasses in the biosphere.
