I learned of this book title and author mentioned on the ASAP horse rescue website, and I'm very glad I did. A lot of careful thought goes into the decision to take on the lifelong commitment of adopting a rescued horse. This book brought up many easy to understand details I may not have considered properly before making a decision. Nothing speaks more clearly than experience. With all of the helpful references, it's a very useful and enjoyable read.

I found this book extremely informative and an enjoyable read. The author obviously writes from experience and with a desire to encourage responsible horse ownership. She offers helpful advice for first horse owners and outlines the issues involved when taking on a horse in distress. For those of us with soft hearts and a lack of good sense, when it comes to an animal is trouble, this is a handy and humorous guide that will help us do the most good where it is desprately needed.

This book complies basic information and is layed out well and a good starter book.. One thing I was disappointed is that it didn't really outline how to start up a Horse rescue but then again it didn't state that it did- A overall nice book !

If you are a fan of the GOSSIP GIRL series or chick-lit in general then you are sure to enjoy this addition to the genre by Daniella Brodsky.

As with the other books, the characters in this book are all rich, over-privileged, gorgeous high schoolers attending a private school in NY. They are also flawed in one way or another. However, this time we have moved out of Manhattan to the borough of Brooklyn just a few subway stops away. They used to hang out at a coffee shop called One Trick Pony but sadly it closed when business declined, probably because it sat in the midst of a Starbucks on every corner. As quickly as it closed, One Trick Pony was reopened by a mysterious French woman named Caroline.

Let's take a look at the group of friends. Maybe within your group of friends, someone may seem similar. You have Jesse, who is total player - loving and leaving them has always been his mantra, but once he meets Caroline everything is different. Then you have Abigail, the poet and artist who is suffering from the death of her mother She doesn't think she will ever recover, but hanging around the new One Trick Pony has brought around some changes in her. Randall is the musician of the group and totally in love with Abigail. They would be perfect for each other if only he had the guts to actually say something to her instead of sitting around willing to be just her friend. Lastly there is Kate, sophisticated and worldly, but she is hiding a whole bunch of insecurities under her bitchy, cool demeanor. She thinks she knows how everyone and everything should act and be. Too bad no one sees things her way. Will hanging around the new One Trick Pony bring about any changes in her as they did with everyone else?

Caroline serves very special coffee, roasting and grinding the beans herself. Drinking her coffee is an experience and soon everybody just can't get enough of it. Alexander King once said "This seems to be the basic need of the human heart in nearly every crisis - a good hot cup of coffee". Coffeehouses hold a certain allure to the general public. Usually, they are comfortable places where you can gather with friends or where you go to unwind and gather your thoughts.

So is Caroline's coffee really magical, or is it just the allure of the place, a place that radiates with love and belonging that really brought about the changes between the four friends?

I used one of Frommer's guides to Savannah and had a fabulous trip there. The same maps and reviews of hotels, restaurants, and sights to see are included in this guide. It also includes a bit of history and some travel tips. Great guides to make first time visits fun. I may buy one of local cities to see what might be interesting to see. Highly advised.

Not only did I find exact prices for hotels and restaurants, I also learned about low country cooking, the architecture in Charleston, and a brief history. All of this was in this little guide that I could fit in my purse!

This was a great portable guide for Savannah. We were only there for 3 days and we went to a number of the restaurants and sites listed. I had also bought Moon Guides' Savannah and Charleston book and it was not as well organized as this guide was. It fit perfect into my little bag also.

I did not find this book any more helpful than the Charleston Area 2003 Official Visitors Guide that I ordered for free on the internet (I'd give you the url, but it's not allowed, so do a search). It did offer information on hotels, which the free guide did not. However, the free book gave more information on local events, tours, and sightseeing. This book is not worth the money, get the free one!

No one has a monopoly on suffering.......2007-07-23

It would seem that the world has been held hostage thinking one group or another deserves more because they have suffered more than anyone else. Our history books have misinformed us and downright lied about the experiences of so many people as if they did not exist. When we speak of genocide the first thing ringing in our ears is the Holacaust in Germany and what happened to 6 million Jews. What about the 20 million Armenians on April 24,1919 (or thereabouts). What about 9 million Africans drowned in the Middle Passage. How about the annihilation and almost termination of the indigineous people of the Americas. The importance of this book lies in taking a factual, first person, look at the other resident citizens of Germany who were also issued a death penalty under Nazi rule. Hopefully knowing the world wide experience of Genocide (still going on), we as people of the world can stop it.

I thought this was an amazing book. It talks about all the others out there who were affected by Hitler, showing it was not only the Jews who were affected and killed, but many others, like the homosexuals, gypsies, ect. The book offers many different opinions and people, and I thought it was an amazing and saddening book.

Pity this book is out of print, for it is worth remembering that many millions of non Jews were enslaved and persecuted by the Nazis, the majority of whom were (as recently scholarship confirms) Ukrainians.

The Other Victims was a book of real life stories from the Holocaust. I liked this book because it tells how people had to go into hiding, how they had no freedom, and how they fought back. The book is mainly about people trying to escape from Germany to America or a safe country. My favorite chapter was Bubili: a young Gypsy's fight for survival. Once I started to read this book I couldn't put it down. The reason I couldn't put this book down was it was all true. I thought it was hard to believe it actually happened. The people were killed because of their religion, color, looks, and trying to stop the wrong that was going on.

I really liked how this book showed the persecution of all people not only the Jews. In almost all other books I've read about WW2 they talk about the persecution of the Jews. This book made the Holocaust more real to me. It gave me a better perception of what the Nazis were really doing and to some extent why. I think we need to recognize the other groups that suffered also. To me this book is a monument to their suffering.
