I took it on vacation with me and I couldn't put it down. A great book for aspiring athletes and coaches as well as your average Joe who works 9-5. The coaches discuss a variety of topics from their childhood to how they motivate their players. Any easy read for all ages.
Game of life.......2007-07-24
I've read through Game of Life and I enjoyed it very much. There are so many things to take from this book, not just into sports, but also some reflections on life. I would recommend this book to everybody.
Coaching advise from athletic coaches.......2007-06-27
A fun read, especially if yoiu're a sports fan. I read it in search of things that would help my own ability as a coach in my company. Much of it is light stuff but the easy read makes it fun nonetheless and there are few golden nuggets laced throughout the book.
Overcome Adversity.......2007-04-12
Anyone looking for inspiration, either for their own life or to share with others, will find a gold mine of quotes here. This book isn't just for sports fans.

this book has spirt.......2007-10-01
I know these are not the most amazing books ever written but i enjoy them. I love catherine hapka's series star power it is alot like this story. they are both about "down to earth teens" it makes them seem unreal, but is nice for people who want a sweet story instead of most storys about teens. In this book it is school spirt week and at the end of the week there is a sadie hokins dance. Troy is waiting for Grabreila to ask him, but there is something else on her mind. She over hears her mom on the phone talking to her boss. And grabriala thinks they are going to have to move again. The ending is not queit what i thought it would be but it does have that super sweet happy ending.
hsm books rock!!.......2007-10-01
This is a short and sweet book. I read it in a day (plus or minsus a few hours.) It was a sweet story. I think that it is very nice for young girls to read i would recommened it to anyone who likes disney or the movies (high school musical 1 or 2.) This book takes place inbetween the two movies. And at the moment there is a battle of the bands, troy is doing it with his b-ball friends. Sharpay is doing a girl group, with her devoted "fans" (and taylor.) so where does that leave gabreila and ryan?? the book of course has a happy ending but is very nice.

WILD!!!.......2007-04-27
Electrifyingly hot, passionate and sexy. Catie and Jarrod don't know what hits them. Two scorching hot characters who are not afraid to set each other, the sheets (or wherever) on fire and burn up the pages. Catie is the WILDCAT who captures Jarrod's thoughts and heart from the beginning and it's a WILD ride watching him try and tame this fiery, sexy and sassy lady.

The item was exactly what I wanted........2006-03-23
I was pleased with the item but not with how long the item took to get to me. I paid for the item to come to me in 2 to 3 days but yet instead there is a projected time of five days even I don't think it is fair to name the delivery service 2 to 3 days when the item really won't be there until 5 days later.
Terrific!.......2006-02-22
I had been hesitant about reading any "cowboy" type romances but this was great! Entertaining, suspense filled. Loved it!
Nicely done errorica.......2005-10-12
This was a good readwell writen with good character development. The plot is OK but a little silley as I don't see someone using rustling as a cover for drug smugling. Overall notably better than average for the genra.

Fantasy and irresponsible horse owners.......2007-05-16
These books are pretty much fantasy. And WHY may I ask does everyone's horses get loose or run off or get stolen in all these books? Irresponsible horse owners is the answer. Look, it's fine to read these, but what I am trying to say is what goes on in these books would NEVER EVER HAPPEN! That is why I call them fantasy.
Another Great Book!.......2007-04-27
A Kid's Review
What goes on in this book is child`s fantasy. It would not happen to a 13 year old girl. The Phantom sounded like a beautiful horse, which is why I bought the book. I was VERY disappointed. What is extremly foolish is that Samantha calls Phantom 'Zanzibar' as his 'secret' name. Right. Whatever. You just can`t combine realism with fantasy. It makes everything to strange. If you are a realist, don`t read it.
I highly disagree with that review. For one, this series is not a child's fantasy. Of course the thought that a wild stallion would come to you by a river every night is a little far-fetched, but that's what makes it interesting because it makes the reader wish she (or he) was Sam. I agree the Phantom sounded like - and is - a beautiful horse. Both on the covers, and the real Phantom is, too! How the heck is calling a horse by a secret name foolish?!!! Those are Native American taming techniques! Hello?! Have you READ the books? Terri Farley describes in the very first book, THE WILD ONE, that Jake taught Sam Native American taming. For example, first mounting Blackie in water, breathing in his nose for him to get her scent, and giving him a secret name. That's not what I'd call foolish.
I don't think this is fantasy. It's what I'd call "an interesting turn on horse series" because I've never read any other horse series that combines Western riding, ranches, mustangs, and one very special stallion! I very much enjoyed this series, and this book.
Anyway, back to the book.
The Challenger was another exciting edition. It involved cougars, a lone stallion, and - of course - evil Linc Slocum! Read this book, the other Phantom Stallion books in this ,(24 books in the series) and on May 22, 2007, the first book in Terri Farley's new series Phantom Stallion: Wild Horse Island - more commonly called Wild Horse Island and WHI for short -THE HORSE CHARMER, will be in book stores available to read! Most readers should have the book in their hands by June 1! YAY!!!
READ, READ, READ this series!
WOW.......2006-11-16
This is probably the most important book in the series. Why??It probably is because some major things happen in it.Sam's dad gets married,Sam gets attacked, and Sam has her moment with the phantom.
This book isn't that unrealistic,I mean arn't all books supposed to be like that? That is why we have a imagination. This book is really good if you have horses and know how they are.
I would recomend this book to anyone who has a pasion for horses, and has a IMAGINATION!!!!
Check out Terri Farley's website and the phantom stallion's.I tried to put the adress ,but it would not allow me.
HIGHLY unrealistic.......2006-05-28

Phantom Stallion is a Great Series!!.......2005-03-04
I have read the first thirteen of the Phantom Stallion series, and The Challenger is one of my favorites. Like all the Phantom Stallion books, a lot of different story lines are presented throughout the book. You get to know not only the human characters, but also the horses, each of which have their own personality as well. I highly recommend the Phantom Stallion series for any horse lover!

Lute!: The Seasons of My Life
ASIN: 1582616167 |
Book Description
The images are forever etched in the minds of Arizona basketball fans, from Miles Simon falling to the court clutching the basketball as Arizona won its first and only NCAA title in 1997, to Lute Olson's hair being mussed in the process, to Jason Terry sleeping in his uniform for four consecutive games in the middle of all the madness. All are indelible in wildcats history as Arizona calmly drove the winding and bumpy road to the Final Four and beyond. Before Simon, Terry, and Olson, however, there were the likes of Sean Elliott, Steve Kerr, Fred Enke, and Pop Mckale--all pivotal figures in Arizona's hoops history. There were also Fred Snowden, Mo and Stewart Udall, and a host of others who helped bring prominence to a school looking for respect in the Southwest first, and then in the rest of the nation. Arizona's rise has made them one of television's must-see teams and one of the country's top winning programs over the past 25 years. In Tales from the Arizona Wildcats Hardwood, author Steve Rivera takes readers back to the time when James Pierce wanted to be more of a movie idol than a coach. They will learn about the troubled times of the 1950s and '60s when racial tensions were high and how Arizona's first black player, Hadie Redd, dealt with them. Rivera also details Arizona's participation in the Border Conference, its switch to the Western Athletic Conference, and its current dominance of the Pacific-10 Conference. Fans will hear from Bob "Big Bird" Elliott, who helped Snowden achieve heights never before seen in the UA program as it fell one game short of the Final Four; from favorite son Steve Kerr, who suffered heartache and achieved hero status while at Arizona; and about theups and downs of Miles Simon, the Most Valuable Player of UA's NCAA championship, as he became a star while in an Arizona uniform. The troubles the program has faced are also detailed, like Ben Lindsey failing as coach in his one and only year; the academic troubles of Simon and Joseph Blair; and the unfortunate death of Bobbi Olson, Coach Lute Olson's wife of 47 years. Tales from the Arizona Wildcats Hardwood is sure to be a must-have book for any true Arizona fan.

Terrible "book" that ever die-hard fans should avoid.......2006-01-24
First, let me say I am a huge AZ Bball fan, and it would not take much to make me happy - but this "book" is terrible and an attempt to just take as much money from fans with as little work as possible. I put the word "book" in quotes, because it really isn't a book - it is just a collection of very short paragraphs that are unrelated to each other. Each tiny paragraph is separated by lots of white space and a seperate "headline". Because of the book size and all the white space, I think the entire book would only be about 9 or 10 pages as a single-spaced Word file (of course, since the subject changes every three sentences, it would be just as unreadable in that form). It is separated into eras (sort of) but is not even entirely cronological. It appears that random paragraphs were taken out of newspaper articles and each one carefully shorn of any context, then vomited into a book. How bad? I wouldn't keep it my house (and I have old press guides and gobs of other Wildcat stuff), and I wouldn't even list it here as used (because I am not going to inflict this on a fellow fan) - I tossed it in the garbage. Avoid this!
Wildcat Fans Must Read........2005-02-25
I only gave this book 3 stars because I was deeply disappointed with the writing style. Example: "Little did anyone know that CmCray had a secret. Before the game--at his home--he had drank alcohol before the game to ease his mind". Yes, we get it--it was BEFORE THE GAME. I was ready to give this book the highest rating just because it was about Arizona basketball. My beloved Wildcats. Steve Rivera seems to be a little too much in love with his own writing. The book is broken up into segments such as "Late 80's" or "Early 90's", and each section has short (one paragraph) stories from the, and about, the players and coaches who were instrumental during that era. There is a loose structure to the time line and these stories are often told and placed in random order. All in all though, I am delighted that someone thought the Cats are important enough to write a book about the history of the program. A better project would have been one of those "A Season With . . ." Picking a year and writing in diary fashion about everything that happened during a particular year. However, if you are a Wildcat fan this is an absolute must-read. If you are not, then I would probably recommend that you do not waste the money since their is very little here for the average basketball fan. It is a book that cheers the Wildcats, and rightfully so I suppose. I only wish that there was some real reporting, some "inside" stuff about Lute, Sean (both of them), Steve, Damon, Jason (all three of them), Chris, Khalid, Gilbert, Loren, and on and on. GO CATS!!!!
Inside stuff from the dean of Wildcat basketball writers .......2004-10-17
In his first book, award-winning Tucson Citizen reporter Steve Rivera does a fine job of going behind the scenes of the nationally ranked Arizona Wildcats and their Hall of Fame coach, Lute Olson. Rivera covered Sean Elliott, Steve Kerr, Luke Walton, Damon Stoudamire, Mike Bibby, Richard Jefferson, Jason Terry and other Wildcats before they went on to the pros and offers new kernels of info for even the most die-hard Wildcat fan. It's an entertaining read that makes a great gift for that Arizona fan on your list, but it's also a good gift for any fan of college basketball. The publishers have released other books on top intercollegiate programs. Rivera's book on Arizona easily matches the quality of the rest of the series.

For those who like the oral tradition.......2006-12-19
Raymond Andrews's second novel in his Muskhogean County trilogy is centered on the anticipated death of the title character Rosiebelle Lee Wildcat Tennessee. The character of Rosiebelle Lee Wildcat Tennessee in true Homeric fashion, as are most of Andrews' characters, is as hyperbolic as her name. She wanders into the fictional southern hamlet of Appalachee and asks for the name of the richest white man in the town. After being apprised of his identity and whereabouts, she quickly enters into a relationship with him. Thus begins an intricate story of a somewhat paradoxical life-long relationship of unquestionable love, affection and mutual exploitation between this African American women and southern white gentleman which Andrews's narrative gradually unfolds as "Momma Rosielee's" many friends and family members wait for her to crossover.
As the novel crescendos toward its climax, Andrews draws upon the historical coordinates of the economic devastation of the South caused by the boll weevil followed by the Great Depression and the African American migration northward. As always, Andrews introduces a seemingly never ending cavalcade of characters, most of them larger than life in their persona, who dutifully enter and recite their lines. Some of them enter loudly with a great clamor; some of them enter almost unnoticed until it is time to reveal their presence. The true genius of Andrews's storytelling ability reveals itself in his ability to weave the threads of these disparate characters and their concomitant narratives together in a coherent tapestry.
The complex, often contradictory state of race relations in the South acts as a foil of sorts. However, Andrews never points an accusatory finger or takes a pedantic tone. Skillfully deploying a raucous, often irreverent sense of humor, he simply lets the story speak for itself. More than anything else, this is the story of the triumph of a woman who begins life with everything arrayed against her but who manages to overcome regardless and whose indomitable spirit inspires all those she comes into contact with regardless of her myriad flaws.
Outstanding storytelling.......2002-07-09
Extremely colorful book about a wild character, Rosiebelle Lee. Based on Andrews' grandmother's life as a woman of color whooping it up in the segregated south. Highly recommended even if you don't normally read books from this genre.

A Swamp in the West.......2005-07-21
I never realized there were swamps in the West. I had assumed that swamps were generally located in the Southeast. However, in this mystery Frank and Joe Hardy meet one wildcat near one swamp, so I guess there are both in this story.
This book begins with Frank and Joe Hardy telling their best friend Chet Morton that their father, Fenton Hardy, has told his sons that they might be able to help him in a mystery involving train robbers. Before the boys can get involved in their father's mystery, Thomas "Cap" Bailey, a track coach and science teacher at Bayport High, asks the boys to go out West with him to locate a source of valuable fossils near Wildcat Swamp. He also asks the boys to help him solve the mystery of why he was robbed the first time he attempted to travel out West.
When Frank and Joe ask their parents for permission to go out West, their father advises the boys that one of the train robbers said something like "twenty wildcat," which Cap Bailey told the boys was on a sign at wildcat swamp. Thus, the boys could also be in a position to help their father when they go west.
The boys are prepared to journey west, but before they leave Cap Bailey is robbed and injured and a map of the area around Wildcat Swamp showing where the fossils are located. As the boys try to take off with pilot Jack Wayne, their plane loses a wheel and the trio crash. Uninjured, the three borrow another plane and head west. They soon realize that someone is following them.
Once the boys finally arrive out West, they head for Wildcat Swamp, where the one and only wildcat in this story leaps on Frank. Fortunately, Joe killed the wildcat before it could do whatever it thought it was doing. Incidentally, wildcats are not really a species as such. In this case, the cat described sounds like a mountain lion, or a cougar. It is unlikely that a mountain lion would attack three men on horseback, so the scenario in this book is moderately implausible.
From this point forward the excitement builds rapidly. The criminals the boys encounter kidnap lawmen and plan to ruthlessly execute them. The criminals also capture the Hardy Boys more than once and plan to kill them as well. The criminals also derail a train and plan on forcing a woman to sign her land over to them; the land that contains Wildcat Swamp! These criminals are utterly ruthless. The question the Hardys keep asking themselves is why the criminals want Wildcat Swamp and why they have been trying to prevent the Hardys from seeking out fossils.
This story is yet another nicely paced and plotted Hardy Boys book. There are parts of the mystery that the author reveals early in the story, and other parts that the author keeps hidden until a significant portion of the way into the story. Thus a reader has things to learn about the mystery a good way into the story, maintaining reader interest throughout. I was also pleased that the story was generally plausible, with only a few moments of weakness. I would rate this story as one of the better books in the Hardy Boys series and I would recommend this book as an introduction into the series.
Best book in the Series.......2003-02-05
Originally published in 1952 - Depending on what day you speak with me, more often than not I regard this book as the absolute best among the original 58. It is often difficult to compare those books written before The Mark on The Door with those composed after Footprints Under The Window. That being said this book opens with an introduction to a mystery when a friend of the Hardy's asks their assistance with a small mystery regarding fossil hunting in Wildcat Swamp. Thus the title plays a part in the opening. We learn of a trio of what I think are some of the more memorable Hardy crooks: Jessie Turk, Gerald Flint & Willie The Penman. For the next several chapters as the Hardys & Cap Bailey prepare to leave Bayport they frequently encounter Flint & Turk on their way to Wildcat Swamp. By page 45 or so, the trio of fossil hunters arrive in Wildcat Swamp and enter was is my favorite part of the book and what I often find is phase two of the volume. The book seems to be broken into three sub volumes within the volume. The opening to their arrival in the swamp and the third phase after Underground Ambush. During this second part of the book the trio initially encounter a wildcat which lets the reader know that the beasts are forever lurking throughout the swamp - but strangely after that one attack on Frank, no more wildcats appear. Before long they meet Harry Sanders, son of the owner of the swamp who reveals its true name and that men have been interested in purchasing the property. The Hardys then encouter 3 phony forest rangers Snake, Snide and Willie The Penman in a memorable scene and shortly afterward are caught eavesdropping by darkness on the rangers. Trying to communicate with their father is cut short when their radio balloon is shot out of the sy by the rangers. The memorable scenes in this book are endless - Frank's clue regarding "Three Odd Letters", the encouters with the rangers, Chet's arrival and he and Cap's
subsequent ambush in the underground cavern. Enter the next phase in the book when the Hardys are ambushed themselves by the gang of outlaws. This book beckons back to the days of 1881 and the old west - not 1952, and draws parallels with "The Twisted Claw", another book seemingly written during another era. After their escape the brothers hop a train which eventually derails thanks to the gang and after a few more very well written chapters the Hardys assist in the capture of the gang. This volume was packed with adventure, action, a great mystery and plot. What young boy or grown man for that matter would not want to camp out in Wildcat Swamp and battle a gang of outlaws from the old west. This is "wish fulfillment" at its best. Again - I regard this as arguably the best book in the series. RATED A+
Absolutely Excellent!.......2002-01-04
This review concerns the original 1952 edition and the revised 1969 edition, which is an editted, shorter version of the original. Frank and Joe must find out why the group of train robbers their father is after are determined to keep Frank, Joe and their science teacher from going to Wildcat Swamp to search for fossils. This book is excellent; it is one of the top three books of the series. The book is well-written and is loaded with action from the first chapter to the last. There is an interesting collection of memorable criminals and the Hardys frequently come into contact with them. Both editions are excellent, but I recommend reading the original, only because it prolongs your enjoyment. This is a great book that all Hardy Boys fans should read.
The Seceret Of Wildcat Swamp.......2001-11-15
This book is called The Seceret Of Wildcat Swamp. It is about the Hardyboys and their science teacherCap Baily. I like it because it has action. Maybe you could make mystries from it.
The Secret Of Wildcat Swamp.......2001-10-17
This book was probably the 5th best, especially since Joe used his gun. This also contained some exciting events, such as Chet and Cap capturing Willie, all the captures of the criminals, the Hardys, and Harry. Also, it was weird of how the plane accident was caused at the beginning, because it all happened too quick. But too fast or not, you can't miss this one.

Getting better.......2007-01-04
I have to admit that i haven't really been too pleased with the direction that some of the WILDCATS stories had been going towards the end of their last run. To me, this storyline was better than the last couple. Its ok for a read and the art is better than average.
