All children want reassurance that their parents' love runs wide and deep. In Guess How Much I Love You, a young rabbit named Little Nutbrown Hare thinks he's found a way to measure the boundaries of love. In a heartwarming twist on the "I-can-do-anything-you-can-do-better" theme, Little Nutbrown Hare goes through a series of declarations regarding the breadth of his love for Big Nutbrown Hare. But even when his feelings stretch as long as his arms, or as high as his hops, Little Nutbrown Hare is fondly one-upped by the elder rabbit's more expansive love.
Anita Jeram's illustrations are bound to elicit an "aw" from even the sternest of readers; these loving rabbits are expressive, endearing, and never cloying. In turn, Sam McBratney tells a simple bedtime story of sweet familial love with humor, insight, and a delightful surprise at the end. Children and parents will love snuggling up for this one--a treat to be read again and again, just before the lights are turned out. (Click to see a sample spread. Text © 1994 by Sam McBratney. Book Description

Customer Reviews:
For new baby.......2007-09-22
The first time I heard of this book was in my childbirth class. I loved it so much I had to buy it. I'm hoping it will become one of my baby's favorite books.
Good all-around baby book.......2007-09-19
I bought this baby book based on the reviews and the fact that Guess How Much I Love You is one of my favorite children's books. The book does a nice job of asking enough questions to make a complete record for your baby without being overly burdensome. Some of the other books I looked at seriously asked what the weather was on the day you found out your were pregnant. Seriously, who would care about that? This baby book also gives great suggestions for a few pictures which is helpful--like the place to put a picture of you pregnant. I am very pleased.
Don't Like the Message.......2007-09-15
I know many people love this book. I don't know why. We received one as a gift, and after reading it to my daughter, I was disturbed by the story. I felt sorry for the bunny whose parent invalidated his expression of love on each page. As many other reviewers said, it was a competition the adult wouldn't let the child win. This book contains a mean-spirited, misguided, sad, and disturbing message.
Family favorite.......2007-08-01
"Guess how much I love you" is a classic. The story is a simple dialog between a big rabbit (the parent) and a little rabbit (the baby), each professing and comparing the depth & "height" of their love for each other. We read this book almost every day to our infant daughter. She loves the watercolor illustrations & coos at the pictures. A lovely addition to a kid' book collection.
Wonderful - this really is a very good book.......2007-07-24
This is a fabulous book for little children and the grownups who read to them. When children are read to daily, they learn to love reading. Perfect bedtime stories, to calm everyone down and make us ready for sweet dreams. If you can find the LARGE size book get it- they're fabulous keepsakes. Perfect gifts for any child, and a perfect tradition in your own home and family!
Book Description
A timeless tale by the incomparable Kate DiCamillo, complete with stunning full-color plates by Bagram Ibatoulline, honors the enduring power of love.
"Someone will come for you, but first you must open your heart. . . ."
Once, in a house on Egypt Street, there lived a china rabbit named Edward Tulane. The rabbit was very pleased with himself, and for good reason: he was owned by a girl named Abilene, who treated him with the utmost care and adored him completely.
And then, one day, he was lost.
Kate DiCamillo takes us on an extraordinary journey, from the depths of the ocean to the net of a fisherman, from the top of a garbage heap to the fireside of a hoboes' camp, from the bedside of an ailing child to the bustling streets of Memphis. And along the way, we are shown a true miracle — that even a heart of the most breakable kind can learn to love, to lose, and to love again.
Customer Reviews:
Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.......2007-09-23
This book was a request from my 9-yr-old granddaughter which I read before sending. I was delighted to find that it was a well-written and beautifully illustrated story that hooked me from Page 1. Edward Tulane is a non-feeling, sort of snobby, stuffed rabbit, who in a series of adventures and after being passed from home to home through no fault of his own, finds his heart...and love... and finally understands that even in the worst of circumstances there is always hope.
Maybe not for kids? A bit depressing..........2007-09-16
The story was beautifully written but chapter by chapter I became more and more depressed. Actually, I wanted to put it down and just not read it after a while, but I continued. After such a dreadfully painfull and heart-breaking story I would have liked more than one page for a happy ending. Would I recommend it? With some hesitation... Would I read it again? No...
Great Story!!.......2007-09-12
I love this story. It is an interesting tale of one pompous rabbit's journey in learning to love. Very sweet and teaches that there are good and sometimes not so good people in all walks of life.
This Book Will Deepen You.......2007-08-18
At first I thought this book was a sappy emotional rollercoaster. Good grief, win, lose, win, lose, win, lose...what is the point?
The trick is, I was getting hurt and hardened just like the main character. I was sucked right in to the author's evil scheme.
By the end of the book, I was ready for the same victory as Edward.
I'll tell you what happened at the end.
I was crying and laughing and had to re-read the last page because I couldn't believe it.
My wife looked over from her chair and said, "Are you crying?"
I said, "Yes. Promise me you will read this book, and not just skip to the end."
"Before I go to bed?" she said. It is 10:45pm.
"No, but you have to read this book. It's incredible."
So there you go. Check it out. She is reading it now, and I'm going to go lie down and look out the window at the stars and name the constellations!
A great read for anyone with a heart.......2007-08-07
"Edward Tulane" is a parable about learning to love, learning compassion, and then learning to love even knowing that it could lead to being hurt. DiCamillo is a marvelous story-teller, excercising tremendous control of the story. "Edward Tulane" reads like the layers of an onion being carefully and deliberately peeled back as Edward grows in his ability to love. A wonderful book to read with your late-toddler to pre-teen child, but also a great read for anyone with a heart.

Customer Reviews:
A wonderful way to learn a great lesson!.......2007-09-28
Mr. Pusskins is your typical aloof cat. He's like most people if you think of it...doesn't realize how good he has it and takes for granted the ones that love him. He does learn what happens when he gets too big for his britches, and falls in with the wrong crowd. He finally comes to the realization of how much he was loved and how great he had it. He lucks outs in that his owner, Emily, is determined to find him and does.
My granddaughter LOVED this books and so do I. It teaches a very valuable and age-old lesson: Appreciate what you have and be good to those who love you, not take them for granted. This is a lesson that alot of people still need to learn! This book does a wonderful job doing just that.
Fun illustrations and a story with a moral.......2007-09-10
My family loved the tale of Mr Pusskins. The interesting illustrations held the attention of the 5 year old. The 3 year old thought the story was too long. Mr. Pusskin's appearance and attitude is similar to that of our persian cat; therefore, we could relate to the story. The theme is classic: the grass is always greener on the other side, but you'd be better off to appreciate what you have.
fun prodigal cat story.......2007-07-26
My four year old son liked this book so much when we checked it out of the library that we decided to buy our own copy. It's a fun story about a rebellious cat that runs away and then realizes how good he had it before so he calls up his owner (a little girl) and she takes him back.
Awesome book!.......2007-05-11
I heard this book read on NPR and thought it was cute. When we got it my daughter (7mos)loved it! It is one of her favorite books and we read it every night.
Wonderful, absolutely wonderful........2007-05-06
You can't help but fall in love with Mr. Pusskins. It's a lesson in love, and delivered with such humour as we watch him barely tolerating all the love and affection gleefully bestowed upon him by his owner Emily, who is a little girl. Mr. P is rather curmudgeonly and he sets out on his own. After initially enjoying his freedom, he finds that he didn't appreciate Emily, that life isn't very pleasant without her, and how lucky he had been to have her. Did Emily miss him? Would he find her? Would she take him back??? The suspenseful ending made me laugh and cry at the same time. (There are mountains in England and Emily knows how to drive a car.)
The drawings are wonderful. Mr. Pusskins' expression, as you can tell by the cover, is perfectly drawn.
As they said on NPR, it's a classic "cat loses girl, cat gets girl" story.
Book Description
Yes, humans and canines are different species, but current research provides fascinating, irrefutable evidence that what we share with our dogs is greater than how we vary. As behaviorist and zoologist Dr. Patricia McConnell tells us in this remarkable new book about emotions in dogs and in people, more and more scientists accept the premise that dogs have rich emotional lives, exhibiting a wide range of feelings including fear, anger, surprise, sadness, and love.
In For the Love of a Dog, McConnell suggests that one of the reasons we love dogs so much is that they express emotions in ways similar to humans. After all, who can communicate joy better than a puppy? But not all emotional expressions are obvious, and McConnell teaches both beginning dog owners and experienced dog lovers how to read the more subtle expressions hidden behind fuzzy faces and floppy ears.
For those of us who deeply cherish our dogs but are sometimes baffled by their behavior, For the Love of a Dog will come as a revelation–a treasure trove of useful facts, informed speculation, and intriguing accounts of man’s best friend at his worst and at his very best. Readers will discover how fear, anger, and happiness underlie the lives of both people and dogs and, most important, how understanding emotion in both species can improve the relationship between them. Thus McConnell introduces us to the possibility of a richer, more rewarding relationship with our dogs.
While we may never be absolutely certain what our dogs are feeling, with the help of this riveting book we can understand more than we ever thought possible. Those who consider their dogs part of the family will find For the Love of a Dog engaging, enlightening, and utterly engrossing.
Customer Reviews:
Good story, but not a training book.......2007-10-17
I was looking for a book to teach me some training tips. This is not it. I can't seem to find one that simply says, "Do this, and this and the dog will do this and in two weeks he/she will be a happier dog and you will be stress free!" There ain't one. This is a story about her love for her dogs and it is a great story, but buy it for a story, not training.
A non-reader, dog lover and shelter volunteer.......2007-10-13
I am not much of a reader and decided to get this cd set to listen to in the car during my commute to work. I just finished the last (10th) cd. I don't know what to do with myself while driving now. The radio doesn't interest me anymore. I began listening to the cds again! I am going to buy 2 of the books, one for me and one for a friend. I will use mine to highlight items I want to reference regularly.
Truly, if you want to understand your dog, and any other, better, you can't beat this book! It was very worthwhile. Too bad every dog trainer hasn't read this book.
I volunteer at a shelter as a dog walker. I walk the dogs who are new to the shelter and they have yet to be behavior evaluated. Tips in this book will help me "read" the dogs and understand what they are feeling.
Get this book (or cd set)!!! You won't be sorry!
sounds good to me.......2007-10-10
Not all the way thru yet but the book shares much of my own philosophy. Worth reading.
Excellent tool.......2007-09-30
This is one of the best tools I've found for helping me understand the world my dog lives in. As a sidebar - there is a series of photos including both humans and canines, showing expressions and pointing out what they mean. Having looked through it thoroughly, I was in hysterics after logging in to a blog and seeing a group of "happy party photos" - once I'd looked at her photos, the *real* message of the party shots was unavoidable, from the smile that said "take one more photo and I'll drown you in the gazpacho" to the frozen, fear-filled shy person, barring her teeth in one of the most uncomfortable smiles I've ever seen. So this is not only good for understanding your dog - but also for paying attention to the real messages on the people faces around you!
Terrific book - even if you don't have a dog!.......2007-09-29
This is a great book! I first purchased it as an audiobook, then purchased the hardcover. Now, I am listening to the audiobook for the second time, and am amazed all over again. If you are interested in the way your brain works, the way dogs learn, the way animals in general learn, this book is fascinating. It is not a how-to book, so you won't be able to train your dog after reading this book. But it will help you understand your dog (and yourself!)

Got to love the Pigeon!.......2007-07-03
Totally love this book. My son gets such a kick out of the Pigeon. Great story to share with younger children!
My second time buying this book.......2007-06-27
My daughter and I love the pigeon book collection. This one is just as entertaining as the others, but also, for younger kids, educational on "things that go". We had owned this book, but bought it again for a friend. Gotta love that pigeon!!
Great book.......2007-02-15
My son really enjoys this book. He is a bit young to "get it" but he smiles when I read it to him.
Board books are supposed to be for babies.......2007-01-12
I am a fan of the larger Pigeon books, so I bought this one for my 18 month old who loves books. This was a disappointment as the play on words at the end makes little sense to a baby. This is a waste of money. The longer books are much more enjoyable.
Great books for children of all ages and grown men who love sarcasm.......2007-01-10
My children love this book. Mo Willems is a great writer of Children's books. "What?" has become my four year olds favorite word, and my husband enjoys reading "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late" every night at bedtime. We as a family have enjoyed all of Willems children's books based on Pigeon. My two year old loves "The Pigeon Loves Things That Go" He makes the noises while I read.
Book Description
Thought-provoking questions that challenge and inspire couples to build a lasting, intimate relationship.
When Susan Piver's husband, Duncan, proposed, her first impulse was to break up with him. "How does one enter into marriage knowing that almost half of all couples these days get divorced?" she thought in a panic. "Suppose he wants to live somewhere I hate? What if I wish we had ten times more money than he wishes for, or he wants to spend more time with his family than I do?"
One by one, she and Duncan answered these questions and many more, alternately delighted, appalled, infuriated, and mystified by the other's responses. In exploring each area of uncertainty, Piver learned something about her husband-to-be, herself, and their relationship. Focusing on key areas of married life, such as home, money, work, sex, community and friends, family, and spirituality, her list of questions became the basis for this book.
The Hard Questions should be required reading for engaged couples, newlyweds, and those in long-term relationships. It is a simple yet profound tool that will challenge and inspire couples to gain a deeper understanding of each other and build a lasting, intimate relationship.
"This book of hard questions and exercises for couples is innovative and exciting." --Andrew Weil, M.D.
"Susan Piver is a deeply intuitive and innovative thinker. She has both tenderness and acuity regarding what concerns us. I could not recommend her more highly." --Julia Cameron
Customer Reviews:
Great Book.......2007-06-26
I have read many of the comments and I would disagree with those that 'say' this is not a 'good book'. This is probably one of the best 'pre-marriage' books because the average couple has not discussed every topic in this book i.e. 'Where will you spend your holidays?". Believe it or not, this has spoiled many a new couple's marital bliss and they appear as deers in the headlight behind the question.
For those that think it was a waste of time, then pass the book on to your friends who did not have as much knowledge about getting to know someone, especially those that spent their courtship in bed vs getting to really know their potential spouse!
What a waste of time!.......2007-04-10
I picked up this book from the library for my fiance and I to read together, and it was extremely disappointing. I totally agree with other reviewers who write that the questions included in the book are not as stimulating as the author thinks them to be.
The questions in this book are things that, really, should have come up in conversation by now if you are in any kind of serious adult relationship. Plus, they are too specific and not open-ended enough to truly stimulate any kind of conversation. Most of the questions can be answered with a single-word answer. The relatively open-ended questions are usually follwed by numerous suggestions by the author. ("What surrounds the house? Neighbors? Trees? Shopes and museums? The ocean? A gated community? Acres of underdeveloped land?") It's as if the author is instructing an activity for a group of kindergarteners, as if she doesn't trust us to come up with any good ideas of our own.
Speaking of the author, she introduces each chapter (though they are very self-explanatory) with a lengthy explanatory section that is over-the-top spiritualized and poeticized. It's really annoying.
Really, it's just not a good book!
From a Wedding Consultant.......2007-04-06
As a wedding consultant, I like to give this book to couples as I first meet with them. Most of them are surprised at the gift, but this is a great book for making sure that the couple has discussed some of the things that are going to come up in their marriage.
I like how the book brings up questions that the couple might not have thought about or thought through. The questions are an easy way to open discussions without finger-pointing.
After all. . . the wedding is a day, the marriage is a lifetime.
The Hard Questions: 100 Essential Questions to Ask Before You Say "I Do".......2007-01-09
Great book!
Worst relationship book ever.......2006-08-11
I agree with the last reviewer, the questions in this book are ones that maybe you would ask someone in the first month or so of dating but after that if you have any type of conversation skills you would have already found out the answers to 99% of the questions. Don't waste your money.
Book Description

such a sweet little book. i love reading it to my 6 mo old. he tries to grab the bears to play with them!!!
I had to comment on the review by Publishers weekly.......2007-08-25
After reading the Publishers Weekly review I had to comment. This book is sweet and the pictures are lovely. The poems express the love that a parent has with their child so perfectly!
The cynical Publishers Weekly reviewer doesn't seem to appreciate the loving bong between parent and child. I could not help think that person is a fool, and/or has never been a parent themselves. As for me and my household, we enjoy sweet, happy and fun, in our books and most importantly our lives.
I wish Amazon would dump Publisher Weekly reviewers.
Ageless, timeless regarding love between parent and child.......2007-07-18
I discovered this book quite by accident. While waiting for an appointment - all the magazines were taken, however, the illustrated cover caught my attention. The words described the timeless love between a parent and child, and the illustrations almost touchable. Regardless of age, my daughter will always be "my I love you." It's a gift as she leaves for her second year of college to confirm our bond and remind her of the love we share, wherever we may be. The gentle language and soft illustrations express far more than the surface simplicity.
Sweet story.......2007-06-11
This is a sweet story to read to your kids. The pictures are lovely as well. My daughter loves it.
Love this book!.......2007-03-29
My 4 month-old baby and I love reading this book every night before he goes to bed.

Wish I had bought this book first! Bobbi Brinker tells it like it really is and doesn't sugar coat anything. This book was most instrumental in helping me decide to have an African Grey Congo in my life.
Every parrot-owner should have this book.......2006-04-25
This is truly an outstanding book. The author is a bird-whisperer, having great insight into dealing with parrots, as the special intelligent and talented beings they are. So many interesting suggestions on all aspects of a parrot's life. I'm very grateful to Bobbi Brinker.

Cute for a little kid.......2007-09-26
Read it cried as usual. Great for my daughter. Did not do much for me on the healing process.
A reminder: Always say I LoveYou........2007-09-24
Of the three books I purchased for my two young friends (boys, aged 6 and 10) who was experiencing the loss of their life-time friend, Charlie-the beagle... this was the BEST BOOK of the three.
The pictures are wonderful, the text simple but meaningful, and most of all.. it tells us all that we should love and express that love while our 'friends' are with us. "I'll Always Love You" brought tears to even the adults reading it with the children; also a good lesson that it ok to cry and grief for our four-legged friends even if we are a grownup.
I'd recommend this book for any age child.
nice.......2007-08-30
Sweet story. The best book I've seen so far to handle, in a children's story way, the death of a dog. The kid moves on pretty fast. That was the only discordant part for me, but i think i understand where the author was going with that...we don't need things to help us remember (except for me, i have the worst memory ever). Extremely cute illustrations. I am 36 years old and I cried when I read it. I had a best pal like the kid in the book, who lived with me for 13 years until July 2007. The ham hitting the floor reminded me of my buddy. Other books I found helpful, as an adult, before and after having to choose the time and day to let my best friend go. The authors give some contacts and advice if you are hitting a wall with your grief and how to take care of yourself. The Loss of a PetandGrieving the Death of a Pet, i also saw a journal for remembering that i am planning to buy. My Personal Pet Remembrance Journal.
FAMILY... TEACHER... MUST HAVE.......2007-05-07
Wilhelm, H. (1985). I'll always love you. New York: Scholastic, Inc.
Synopsis: Can pets live forever? This is the story of a young boy and his pet dog, Elfie. Elfie and the boy do everything together. As the boy grows older, Elfie grows older at a much quicker rate. Not a night goes by when the boy tells his best friend, Elfie, how much he loves her. This is without a story for all families that have a pet. Young children learn the importance of loving and caring for their pets.
Evaluation: The concept of dying is a subject many families do not explore until the time comes when it is necessary to discuss. This gentle tale allows readers to ready their minds for the inevitable time when a family pet will pass away. Wilhelm's story provides children with positive, upbeat way to handle a difficult time in life. Young children will find the text to be heart warming and easy to understand. The watercolor illustrations are soft and cheerful which adds to tone of this story. In addition the simple illustrations provide children an uncluttered view into Elfie's world. Having a pet, is an experience many young children can relate to in today's world. Families will find joy in the humor of this story as they watch Elfie and the boy grow up. It is a charming story for any family that has both young children and pets. Wilhelm writes this story in simplistic text that allows young children to read and understand the concept of death and dying. Parents and educators will find that while the text is simple; it is a book that will allow children to open up to the process of grieving. Readers ages 4-10 will find this book appealing. This story is a bright, happy and upbeat book needed in every child's collection.
A Moving Story.......2007-05-04
Elfie and her owner are best friends. They run together, play together, and sleep together. But, as her owner is growing up, Elfie is growing old; and round. She doesn't quite have as much energy as before. Instead of running, she prefers to rest. The family takes Elfie to see the vet, but sadly, the vet says that there's nothing that he can do for Elfie. She's just getting old. The boy now carries Elfie up to bed each night so she can still sleep with him.
However, one morning, Elfie doesn't wake up. She died during the night. Her family grieves and cries, and they bury her in the back yard. The little boy's neighbor offers him one of his new puppies, but he refuses. He wishes to honor Elfie's memory. He does proclaim that when he gets a new pet, he'll always say "I'll always love you".
Our family has a terminally ill dog, and a dear friend loaned us this great book to help our children deal with her impending death. I was moved to tears as I read this book. I could easily relate to what the family in the book was going through. Pets become members of the family just like children do, and dealing with the loss of a pet can be very difficult. This book teaches the reader that, despite the death of the pet, we should remember all of the good times we shared with the pet.
I give this book my highest recommendation. If your family has suffered the loss of a pet, or has a pet that is very sick like mine, then read this fine book. It will help you prepare for the loss, but it will also remind you to remember the good times you shared with your pet.

Book Description
A great big hug in book form, Snuggle Puppy is a year-round valentine from parent to child. It is bright, chunky, a pleasure to hold, and has a die-cut cover that reveals a glimpse of the joy inside before it's even opened. Best of all, it's packed, of course, with pure Boynton: her inimitable language, her inimitable illustrations, her inimitable sense of fun.
OOO, Snuggle Puppy of mine! Everything about you is especially fine. I love what you are. I love what you do. Fuzzy little Snuggle Puppy, I love you. Featuring a sweet and cuddly doggie cast and rhyming verse, Snuggle Puppy is the perfect bedtime book to read last, because of an ending that kids will want again and again: I started with OOO. . . . Now we'll end like this: [BIG SMOOCH!]

Love it.......2007-10-14
I had this book when my son was a baby and now my daughter and they both loved it. My daughter dances while I sing it to her.
Too cute!.......2007-10-06
My daughter loves this book and insists upon having it read/sung to her just about every night. Although I do not have the greatest voice this book is a source of enjoyment night after night as part of our bedtime routine.
Love it!.......2007-08-15
My baby loves this book! We've read it to her since she was about 2 months old and repeats the Oooooo noise after you. It's so cute to read it with her and we've bought it for multiple gifts.
Cute, but too wordy .......2007-05-27
I love Sandra Boynton but this isn't my favorite. It is a cute story and very sweet, but it is wordy and repetetive and my daughter usually gets bored before we are through. I would recommend getting one of the author's other books.
Great for Dads, Moms, Boys & Girls.......2007-05-27
This little book is wonderful! It's one of the few my baby girl will sit through. One nice touch is that there aren't any gender cues for the parent dog or little puppy. It could be a Mommy and her little boy baking the cookies just as easily as a Daddy and his little girl. Very cute! I haven't been disappointed with a Boynton book yet!
