Colorful in more ways than one, this travel guide got me interested in Prague and all its fascinating sites long before I arrived. I never found one inaccurate detail. Tons of colorful maps made this guidebook indispensable. I just kept referring to it. Definitely recommended!

Another Great Guide..........2007-01-20

Fodor's is my favorite travel guide company and, once again, I found them indispensable on my recent trip to Prague. I chose not to stay in a pension instead of a hotel and Fodor's pointed the way in their "Lodging Alternatives" section.

The "Smart Travel Tips" section was also useful. It listed the best place to find a good exchange rate. It alerted me to the fact that many of the taxi drivers in the Czech Republic are corrupt and that I should always ask how much the ride would cost before I went. It also listed the more reliable taxi companies, which helped me get back to the airport.

Again, they provide useful intermarries based on how many days one has to spend. My only grievance with the "Exploring Prague" section is that they did not specifically map out their "good walks" as they do in their other city guides. Instead, they use one map for all. This is unfortunate because Prague is, by far, the most confusing city I've yet been to in terms of navigation.

This book also serves as a guide for the rest of the Czech Republic, as it only takes about three days to see Prague properly. (Even though it is beautiful, there aren't that many museums to take up one's time.) According to the guide, I should have gone to Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) and Kutna Hora as well. Instead, I only made it to Cesky Krumlov, which is well worth the three-hour bus ride it takes to get there.

Czech is a somewhat difficult language. Fortunately, many people in Prague speak English. There is some Czech vocabulary at the back of the book that you should know regardless. Also useful is the history they provide, further reading, and travel tips (don't go to any church concert that features both "The Four Seasons" and "A Little Night Music.")

Incomplete, poor attempt.......2001-06-01

This little book is geared for small children, but parents and teachers who really want to teach their children the Italian influences on the world will find many other books to be a better resource and educaitonal tool about Italian heritage.

Hits and misses.......2001-03-27

This little book is packed with information about the things and traditions in our modern daily lives that originated in Italy. The cover is an attention-grabber, with lettering and layout reminiscent of a B-movie ad. (Creature from the Black Lagoon comes to mind!) Inside, the photographs are pleasing and the copy is easy to read. Many of the items mentioned--glass, paved streets--originated in ancient Rome, but what is fascinating is finding out what does NOT come from Italy. My 6-year-old was shocked to discover that pasta (her favorite!) comes not from Italy, but China. And I was shocked to see the origin of pretzels (obviously a German word and tradition) listed as being Italian. One glaring omission in the book, however, is that, while a photograph of a 1000-lire note shows Maria Montessori's portrait, there is no mention of this pioneer of children's education--one of Italy's greatest exports--anywhere within Harvey's pages. This Montessori teacher, for one, was very disappointed!

Look What Came From Italy.......2000-06-02

As a Kindergarten teacher, I am always looking for books that will help expose my students to different countries and cultures. Because of the age of my students these books are often difficult to find. Look What Came From Italy is an excellent resource for younger children. The illustrations are very nice and colorful (eye-catching) and the text is simple enough for young children. I am so impressed with this book that I plan on collecting others in the series. I would highly recommend this book to any teacher of elementary school-age children.

I love this book. The art is fresh and different and appeals to youth. I especially like the tips that appear at the beginning of the book that show creative ways to use the clipart.
