Great book........2003-12-08
Well written. Halic is the best main character of all books. You can picture him swimming and how a seal lives and how they chill around life. This book will touch your heart. Just read it and you be the judge.
a very nice book.......2003-12-08
This is a well written book. Halic is the main character taht is who the story is about. This is a story that will capture your heart.
Boring.......2000-03-12
I had to read this book for a marine animal book report. The only important character is Halic, and all he does is swim around all day! I did not like it at all

Customer Reviews:
Decent travel guide.......2006-12-31
Very informative. Decent recommendations. A lot of surfing recommendations... if that's what your into. Only a third of the book is dedicated to PV. Rest of it covers Pacific Mexico (Mazatlan, Manzanillo, etc.)I liked Fodor's PV 2007 better. Especially if you are going to PV and not those other destinations covered by Lonely Planet. Fodor's has a lot more content concerning PV, and is easy to use and well laid out.
Great little book.......2006-10-15
A bit of a misnomer - the book actually covers Mazatlan to Tehuantepec (Oaxaca) intensively in a compact book
Finally getting info on true budget hotels omitted from the Mexico book along with more indepth general coverage
Generally I have avoided PV and Zihua since I thought budget accomodations had dried up - now I am thinking of checking airfares
I am thinking LP should do more of these for Mexico

Customer Reviews:
Great!.......2006-06-21
Does a very good job of covering a large area. This book exhibits the best of the Lonely Planet series: a combination of facts, interesting suggestions, opinion and background information. Good maps and graphics. I like that camping suggestions are included for many places.
Lonely No More.......2005-09-10
Living in Australia, planning a road trip around the Southwest is not an easy consideration. I received this book and suddenly the Southwest was withing smelling distance. The reading is easy and expressive. I have a clear idea of where I will go and what I will do. No matter if I were travelling with children or on my own, I'd be clear about what is available to me. This will be the trip of a lifetime and this sensational book is a catalyst for my planning. Fully enjoyable, this book allows the magic of anticipation to grab me and give me colourful dreams.
Used It, Read It, Loved It........2005-07-31
This book was incredibly helpful to me. The maps are awesome. It's organized well. I hiked and did Route 66. The book was great for both. The table of contents is super accessible. Buy it and take it everywhere!
Authors don't like New Mexico.......2004-02-25
I purchased this book before a recent visit to Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos. I lived in Albuquerque for 4 years about 6 years ago, but I hoped to find new insigts on places to eat, explore, etc. Basically the guidebook told me where not to go. It failed to mention some excellent restaurants in Albuquerque including The Dog House, Las Mananitas, Il Vicino, etc. In Santa Fe I attended a class at the Santa Fe School of Cooking which was a five star class - not mentioned in the guidebook. In Taos I visited a community of alternative homes constructed of tires and cement (earthships.com will explain more) - again not mentioned in the book. I did go to look at a ruin near Espanola that was recommended, but the reservation does not allow admittance.
Your standard LP book.......2003-07-02
I have recently encountered poor Lonely Planet books, but this was not one of them. It is the good old LP at work.
The coverage of Las Vegas, however, was extremely poor. I spent there 24 hours and this book didn't have enough info for even that short of a trip. The rest is great.
The California LP had twice as much info on Las Vegas.

WORST Reference Book I've Ever Purchased.......2007-03-20
Not only was this guide not helpful, it was agonizing to use. The index is incomplete, the maps are scattered and inapplicable, nothing is cross-referenced, and the descriptions are more often than not completely irrelevant. I've just returned from my trip to Mexico's Pacific Coast, and found that relying on the book for information was counter-productive, as many facts were missing or wrong. It was more productive to ask anyone than to open the book. Do not spend your money or time on this guide.
don't bother.......2006-08-08
I am an avid LP fan and have used their books in several other countries, but found this one to be incredibly unhelpful. We ended up stranded on a military base, sleeping in our car for a night, and the guidebook had the wrong number for the hotel we were trying to reach. Furthermore, the book seems to breeze over some of the nicer off-the-beaten-path spots, like Mazunte and Zipolite.
Terrible.......2005-01-10
The problem with this guide is that it was written by two people: Danny Palmerlee's advice was spot-on, but Sandra Bao's section was awful. Incorrect maps, serious errors and bad hotel advice. It's as though she were never there. She clearly relied on hearsay without checking things out first hand. Avoid this guide and get a more general Mexico book written by more authors.
Exciting and I can tell...accurate.......2004-08-05
Full of great information (including all the GOOD stuff...maps, vaccinations, requisite travel paperwork, great restaurants and places to stay...) written with a great deal of passion and facts, and because it's a Lonely Planet publication, I trust it is accurate. Great bus reading! Will definately take a copy with me to mark up, just too valuable to leave at home. Highly recommended. Asta luego! :0)

Book Description
"If you grew up with Abraham Lincoln, what kind of house would you live in? How would you travel? What would you do for fun?" These - and 25 other questions children might ask about life in Lincoln's time - are answered in this information-packed book for young readers.
The author shows boys and girls what it would be like to live in the same places that Lincoln lived - as a boy in Kentucky and Indiana, as a young man in the prairie town of New Salem, Illinois, and later in the city of Springfield, Illinois.
A picture appendix shows what great changes occurred from the time Lincoln was a boy to the time he was President in Washington D.C.

How Did They Live That Way?.......2007-02-28
"In summer, everyone went barefoot most of the time. People carried their shoes to church. Then put them on to go inside"--from book.
You'll also find answers to questions like the following about Abe Lincoln's time: How would you send a letter? What were school teachers like? What could you buy in Springfield (Abe's hometown)? What was house furniture like?
This and much more interesting information about Lincoln's time await you. But a previous reviewer has a good point: Why is there nothing about blacks and slavery? The fact that it was mostly farther east may account for this omission, but still a mention would have been informative.
Forget something?.......2005-04-27
If you want your children to learn about the realities of living in the 1800s, do not buy this book. It leaves out one crucial factor. SLAVERY. There is no mention of African Americans anywhere in this book, nor are they pictured anywhere in the book. There are other books that you can find for your children that actually tell you what happened in American history.
If you grew up with Abraham Lincoln by Jessie (homeschooled).......2004-02-13
If You Grew Up With Abraham Lincoln is written by Ann McGovern. This book is about Abe Lincoln's life on the frontier, in town , and in the city of Springfield, IN. It also talks about his election to the Presidency. When Abe was a boy he slept in a loft. Later in a village called New Salem, he opened a store. Then he worked as a lawyer in Springfield. When the year 1860 came, Abe found out he had been elected President! My favorite part of this book is when McGovern mentions that Abe slept on the counter in his store in New Salem. I give this book five stupendous stars!
If You Grew Up With Abraham Lincoln.......2003-11-04
I really enjoyed reading this book with my 7 year old son. The perspective that it gives, that is looking at what the past was like in real everyday terms, helped him to get a grasp of what kinds of advances there have been in 200 years. The language was appropriate for the age and the illustrations supported the text. This book could be used in many ways in a classroom or homeschool situation. I recommend it for anyone trying to convey the difference between past and present to a child.
