The Big Book of Buds Volume 2 continues in the tradition of its predecessor by combining stunning, full-color photography with fun and clear descriptions of the characteristics that any gardener or connoisseur wants to know. The book is an informal taxonomy of marijuana varieties, with handy reference icons for immediate visual sorting. An engaging text description also helps the enthusiast distinguish the unique qualities of each strain, including appearance, ripening time, and growing characteristics, as well as how it smells, smokes, and tastes. The practical information provides an indispensable reference for the grower, while the lush photographs and entertaining, insightful essays on the breeding, botany, and culture surrounding marijuana make this a great book for the casual browser.

good book........2007-03-08
Good book, not as much as the first one, it has more articules, less pics. But it is very interesting book.
ANOTHER raging success.......2006-05-09
What a great "strain guide" type book! makes my mouth water reading them all. I guess I 'll have to start at the beginning and work my way to the end...tasting all varieties. LOL
Very good read and pretty enough to leave out for guests to read.

Even better than volume 1.......2005-01-11
I loved vol.1 and now vol. 2 WOW. This book really goes in depth about buds. If you thought you learned alot from the first book this one is a must. The symbols make it very easy to understand. The information is great and I really love the photography. This book is perfect for any coffee table. All around this book looks great and is very easy to read.
Treat yourself to more buds.......2004-10-29
I loved the first Big Book of Buds so I was surprised that there could be even more marijuana varieties to learn about and sample. The book includes some new breeders as well as many of the seed companies that have been refining marijuana for decades. With its bright colors and close-up bud photography this book is truly eye candy.

Worth every penny.......2007-09-01
This is a very helpful book, and worth every penny (even if you pay full price for it at one of Ms. Harris' seminars!). This is a practical, experienced breeder who has used her knowledge as a human nurse to give breeders an extra edge in helping newborn pups. I've been breeding for 25+ years, and still learned new things at her seminar and from the book. This is a book every breeder should have on their shelf.
A must have .......2007-07-12
This book is one that anyone who has ever whelped, or ever plans on having puppies. It is full of excellent information on taking care of your puppies in any kind of situation. This was written by an author that really knows her stuff!! Easy to read, and easy to understand. Great book!!
A wealth of knowledge.......2007-06-06
This is so jampacked with helpful info and handy hints. Her nursing knowledge is obvious with her laid back approach to things that would generally make even the most experienced breeders nervous. The DVD that accompanies this book is invaluable also. The footage of tube feeding, and rehydrating puppies is second to none. She writes confidently and humerously, and explains quite tricky procedures quite simply. This book will help every breeder. The pictures, being photo's are also extremely helpful.
Wonderful book.......2007-05-13
Fast return and the book was in excellent condition. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants to find a dependable company.
Puppy Intensive Care - A Must for Breeder Libraries...........2007-04-03
This is the best text I have read in 30 years of dog breeding. Informative and written for the lay-man. The accompanying DVD was frosting on the cake. I would recommend this book for all dog breeders, regardless of experience.

Wonderful book.......2007-07-12
This is an awesome book for anyone that is interested in breeding dogs, or just for the over all general care of your pets.
I can't say enough good things about the book.
A must for breeders!.......2007-05-12
Before breeding my first litter, I read anything I could get my hands on, ordered appropriate books, intensely searched online, got my emergency supplies together, my puppy exercises prepared, and my vet on standby. But in all the searching I did, these two books (this one and Puppy Intensive Care, same author) were really what I was looking for at the time. Wrapped in a neat package, they cover everything that you could experience as an emergency. Many of the questions I still had unanswered in my mind after the litters I've raised were answered in these two books. I would just add How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With as a good overall puppy development and socialization book.
BUY THIS!!!!!.......2007-04-01
I will try my hardest to express in mere words how insanely wonderful this book is. Here goes.
I read several breeding books before I found this one and I found this one to have the best advice of them all. The lady is an RN midwife that works in a hospital delivering human babies. She did this for years before learning to be a dog breeder and becoming friends with a vet that is an absolute expert in canine midwifery that taught her a thing or two that's for sure. Her medical experience plus what she's learned from whelping puppies combines for one extremely objective, helpful book that is still down to earth and understandable for anybody.
great reference book for breeders.......2007-01-19

Customer Reviews:
ok info.......2007-10-13
I bought this book with the hopes of learning something about genetics, and I learned that the author should devote some time to reading "marijuana botany" by Robert Connell Clarke. Unfortunately "The Cannabis Breeders Bible" is not a "definitive guide to marijuana genetics" the book is more like recycled garbage from a bunch of other grow books. It does nothing to explain the real deal with breeding like identifying strains that are compatible and in turn can breed. He puts it in a manner saying all you have to do is find a male and find a female and voila you have seeds. Any good cannabis breeder knows this is not the truth. Anyone looking at this book should just buy "Marijuana Botany" and leave it at that. The Cannabis breeders bible did nothing more than waste my time.
Not For The Beginner.......2007-09-14
This is an excellent resource on cannabis genetic's and how cannabis genetic characteristic's are utilized from the male and female plants.. IT IS NOT FOR THE BEGINNER wanting to learn how to grown cannabis, it is for experienced growers and designed for the advanced grower or anyone interested in cannabis genetic's to create their own variety of cannabis. If you do not have the time to understand how genetic's work nor do not understand basic chemistry about genetic's, this book is not for you. Verl McCown, GG
Very comprehensive!.......2006-08-18
I Lightly read part of this book when i first began to read about cannabis. Boy oh boy was it a handful. This is a very advanced book. If you are simply a toker then i wouldn't suggest this book, but if you are an advanced grower/breeder this is for you.
I would suggest reading other grow material and particularly greens grow bible before diving into this book.
I will have to read it again now that i am a little more knowledgable.
Serious Marijuana (a book for all plant lovers who want advanced material).......2006-06-04
To have gone through this book and come out the other side is a profound experience, like some sort of a futuristic biology class that specialized in the stuff that gets you best baked. I would not hesitate to force any kind of plant lover to gravitate towards this book like it was about a rose bush or an apple tree. It is a progressively deeper and meaningful insight into the world of plants and the humans who care for them. On one page we are getting an illustrated history of the evolution of the cannabis plant and on the next page how to use materials to enhance the genes that make flowers big like they where back in the prehistoric ages. It is unparalleled in the way its advanced scientific information is brought out in a practical and applicable manner to your grow. The best part is that we can have it all now. The fact that Greg Green is a cotemporary makes now the best time to repeat what he is advising because you can do it the same way with the same stuff. The evidence is in the book. Nowhere else, anywhere else, has anything, even remotely addressed the kind of topics in this book, let alone experiment and produce consistent results with them. This kind of detail is avant-garde marijuana research. It is influencing and changing the way cannabis cultivation is done on daily bases.
Chapter 1: Overview of the Cannabis Strain Market
Chapter 2: Basic Breeding

Chapter 4: Compatible Breeding Models

Chapter 20: Advanced Breeding Principles
Chapter 21: The Basics of Cannabis Photosynthesis Chemistry
Chapter 22: The Scientific Classification of Cannabis, Cannabinoids and Cannabinoid Receptors
Chapter 23: Force Flowering Concepts and a Correct Approach to Calyx Development
It is thanks to fresh new invigorating material like this that we are finally going to get a pause in the factory pumped out marijuana cultivation articles that get rehashed every year. For anybody who wants to be blown away by a Marijuana book, be blown away by Greg Green.
Recommended for the amount of information.......2006-04-11
This is one of the best books about the cannabis plant I have read. It is dedicated to the science of the cannabis plant. There is some advanced growing material in here also but the cannabis plant is talked about for nearly 300 pages without getting boring. You will reference this for life.

Genetics: An Introduction for Dog Breeders .......2007-07-22
relly nice book ,well written .Lots of informations
It is a must for a breeder in order to do a good job!!!
Informative, but Heavy.......2007-01-04
Dog breeding is an art as well as a science, and this book gives a pretty good explanation as to why this is the case. It gives a thorough overview of what we know of canine genetics, discussing physical traits, genetic conditions, etc, and what we consider our best guesses are for the inheritance patterns of various alleles.
But unless your breed of choice happens to be Weimeraners, you won't find many specifics in this book. If the breed you're interested in has fairly typical canine genes, you'll find more here than if your breed is more obscure. Moreover, the book necessarily goes into Genetics fairly deeply; I've a degree in Biology and I have more genetics background than the average joe, and *I* found the book a little overwhelming. I think it would be heavy reading for most people, especially if they do not have some basic idea of how the mechanics of Genetics work.
It's a good reference, but nothing I'm just dying to read. I got much more out of certain breed-specific books.
Excellent book for any serious dog breeder........2006-07-28
This book should be required reading for anyone serious about breeding quality dogs. Easy to read with lots of valuable information, but detailed enough for the experienced breeder.
UGH! FRUSTRATION!!!.......2006-07-15
I know the very subject matter of this book is difficult and involved, but unless you are at least slightly well versed in the subject or have a steel trap of a mind and remember everything you ever read, this will be very frustrating!
I was constantly re-reading to try to make sense of it all and trying to memorize the terms & their meanings. Even when I was successful, it was a short-lived accomplishment because the next paragraph introduced something else just as complicated or more often worse.
It isn't a total loss, though. There is some interesting dog/wolf history... even the history of science & genetics was interesting.
I don't think the average dog breeder looking for an introduction to genectics would find this an easy read or get a lot out of this book unless you use it more as a study mannual & had some to help guide you through it.
This one is on my shelf to be re-read at a later date.
I hope you have a better time of it than I did!!!
Invaluable resource.......2006-01-30
Every single dedicated breeder should have the knowledge found in this book.
In addition to important information on genetics, it has very interesting information on the evolution of dogs and a great chapter on behavior which even goes into detail on the stages of development in puppies and effects of environment on behavior.
There is excellent information about hereditary problems, genetic disorders, and even mate selection. There is a list at the back of every breed with their hereditary disorders listed and mode of inheritance when known, which should be especially helpful for breeders. There is also breed-specific information on coat colors and alleles- which, by the way, used to look like an exotic foreign language to me and now makes sense!
I had a very simple understanding of Mendelian genetics before I read this (from reading "The Joy of Breeding Your Own Show Dog by Anne Seranne- another great book.) This book made my understanding complete.
Before I read this book I thought that genetics were going to be difficult and boring to learn, but the author does a great job of keeping the subject interesting. The preface mentions that the author had her breeder friend, who was confused and intimidated by genetics, read the manuscript and point out areas that were especially confusing to a beginner or areas that needed clarification, etc. Maybe this is one of the reasons why this book is so effective.
A great, absolute must-have book that I highly recommend!

An excellent, comprehensive encyclopaedia of the variety of marijuana available around the world. For anyone (especially here in CA, where medical cannabis is legal) who has access to purchasing pot, this is a serious guide book -- attractively designed, with ample color photos for identification of dozens of strains. Valuable and fascinating.
Not as good as the first two books.......2007-06-20
There is alot of god info in between, and the book i a must if you have the first 2 books.
The "new" strains in the book could in my opinion have been better selected.

Book Description
Growing up in suburban Detroit, David Hahn was fascinated by science. While he was working on his Atomic Energy badge for the Boy Scouts, David’s obsessive attention turned to nuclear energy. Throwing caution to the wind, he plunged into a new project: building a model nuclear reactor in his backyard garden shed.
Posing as a physics professor, David solicited information on reactor design from the U.S. government and from industry experts. Following blueprints he found in an outdated physics textbook, David cobbled together a crude device that threw off toxic levels of radiation. His wholly unsupervised project finally sparked an environmental emergency that put his town’s forty thousand suburbanites at risk. The EPA ended up burying his lab at a radioactive dumpsite in Utah. This offbeat account of ambition and, ultimately, hubris has the narrative energy of a first-rate thriller.

Growing up in suburban Detroit, David Hahn was fascinated by science, and his basement experiments -- building homemade fireworks, brewing moonshine, and concocting his own self-tanning lotion -- were more ambitious than those of other boys. While working on his Atomic Energy badge for the Boy Scouts, David's obsessive attention turned to nuclear energy. Throwing caution to the wind, he plunged into a new project: building a nuclear breeder reactor in his backyard garden shed.
In The Radioactive Boy Scout, veteran journalist Ken Silverstein recreates in brilliant detail the months of David's improbable nuclear quest. Posing as a physics professor, David solicited information on reactor design from the U.S. government and from industry experts. (Ironically, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission was his number one source of information.)
Scavenging antiques stores and junkyards for old-fashioned smoke detectors and gas lanterns -- both of which contain small amounts of radioactive material -- and following blueprints he found in an outdated physics textbook, David cobbled together a crude device that threw off toxic levels of radiation. His unsanctioned and wholly unsupervised project finally sparked an environmental catastrophe that put his town's forty thousand residents at risk and caused the EPA to shut down his lab and bury it at a radioactive dumpsite in Utah.
An outrageous account of ambition and, ultimately, hubris that sits comfortably on the shelf next to such offbeat science books as Driving Mr. Albert and stories of grand capers like Catch Me If You Can, The Radioactive Boy Scout is a real-life adventure with the narrative energy of a first-rate thriller.
"Anyone who has ever wondered what the neighborhood geek might be brewing up in his backyard should read The Radioactive Boy Scout. This is a riveting and disturbing story about the power of the teenage mind -- and the sparks that fly when a nuclear family melts down."

Excellent Book.......2007-08-12
This is an excellent non-fiction quick read at just under 200 pages. It is a true story about a teenager, David Hahn, who ventured to build a nuclear breeder reactor with little protection from radioactivity. He used a potting shed as a laboratory and a few old college textbooks from his dad for knowledge on radioactive materials. David became increasingly secluded at school as he continued to experiment with dangerous chemistry. His grades dropped, and no one believed he could do anything to raise eyebrows. He ignored laws and cautions, obtaining many radioactive materials like beryllium, radium, polonium (210!), and americium to recreate the Curie couple's feats. He succeeded in creating a nuclear reactor but could not stop the increasing radioactivity, resulting in catastrophe. Finally, the federal government had to dismantle his reactor, as it was a great danger to people who lived near David.
I think this book is a worthy read. It is a fascinating story with great description. The author, Ken Silverstein, was very good at highlighting facts and things that happened in David's life that were related to his inspiration of building a nuclear reactor. However, I think Silverstein put a little too much history of atomic energy into the book. He is also slightly biased against nuclear power.
Overall, I think this book could have been written better, but still deserves a thumb up.
From his former Scoutmaster.......2007-08-05
I was David's scoutmaster when he was preparing for his Eagle Scout Board of Review. I was to contact five registered adult Scout leaders, who would comprise the Board. One prospective adult told me he could not sit on the Board, because "something happened".
I learned that David and some friends were stopped by the cavaliering Clinton Township (Michigan) Police, who were randomly stopping teens and searching their cars for stolen tires.
David was not allowed to keep his experiments in his stepmother's home, so he kept everything in his car trunk. The cops found no tires, but saw his stuff and overreacted.
Days later, David's father phoned and said that David would no longer pursue the Eagle Scout rank.
A month or so later, a man claiming to be a reporter phoned my home, wanting to do a telephone interview about David. After a few moments, I refused. There was something negative about the line of questioning.
As a Scout, David was always clean-cut, polite, and well-liked by the other boys. My take is that David had the scientific curiosity of a Tesla or Edison; not of an evil prankster.
David's father, like so many divorced and re-married men, walked a tightrope between caring for his son and appeasing a new bride.
As for Mr. Silverstein, he should keep his story factual, and keep his opinions about Scouting to the editorial pages.
The Atom is Our Friend.......2007-07-31
There's something not quite serious about The Radioactive Boy Scout. The book jacket has a cartoonish design and each page has a little atomic symbol by the page number. It's a small book, almost like a children's reader. It seemed to me as if it would be a quick, fun read.
Well, it was quick, all right. Author Ken Silverstein originally wrote this as an article for Harper's Magazine, according to the blurb. The article has been padded with several chapters on nuclear power, chemistry, and the history of the Boy Scouts. But The Radioactive Boy Scout is hardly a cartoon or a fun little story.
Although this is a story about how one teenager nearly built a nuclear reactor in his back yard, Silverstein wants us to know it is more than that. He emphasizes how David Hahn, the teenager, was neglected by his parents and not taken seriously by his teachers. If only someone had taken the time to take this boy under his wing, perhaps a near-disaster could have been averted. Certainly the fact that there was no disaster takes the edge off the story, but we already know what can happen when teenagers don't get the attention they need.
I enjoyed the main story as well as the chapters on science and the Boy Scouts. Silverstein describes how radium-based products were sold in the early 20th century as tonics, lotions, and even suppositories, to improve one's health. He recalls filmstrips (remember?) and pamphlets that cheerfully told us to "duck and cover" in the event of a nuclear explosion. He uses a hilarious passage from P.G. Wodehouse to illustrate a common view of the Boy Scouts in their early days.
Although I share most of Silverstein's opinions on federal government, the nuclear power industry, the Boy Scouts, and inattentive parents, I think the story would have been more effective if he had left his editorial comments out. Describing David's father as "pathologically oblivious" is unnecessary. True, but unnecessary.
A great quick red.......2007-06-20
I found this book to be an enjoyable quick read. The science was well explained for those who don't know about nuclear physics and chemistry. There was a good progression of the story with interruptions that you wanted to read to get the background science information on what exactly David was doing. I think everyone should read this book to get a realistic view of how people can have an influence on one life. I will digress a great deal if I start to point out the many life lessons packed into this book so I'll just leave with a recommendation. Read not to get a balanced viewpoint for we all have our slants; read to get another viewpoint and figure out what you are going to do with that new perspective.
Very Interesting Story with Distractions from the Author.......2007-06-15
The *story* is very interesting, but the author repeatedly annoyed me. As others have said, if he had stuck to the story, the book would have been much, much shorter. There was some useful background information about nuclear history and research, but there was also absolutely useless information thrown in as well. [...].
The author was also rather condescending toward David (the boy), his parents, and virtually anyone else who knew him, it seemed. I felt bad for David in particular. The author clearly interviewed him and got to know him somewhat, then he took quotations and used them in ways that David didn't intend for them to sound. And the general tone toward David seemed rather uncharitable. I think he realized this and tried to remedy it a bit in the epilogue, but it doesn't undo the rest of the book. I think that a better author could have conveyed the obvious, that David needed better direction, without the condescending tone.
In the end, I'm definitely glad that I read the book, but I find the author distasteful. I would have preferred to have read the book from someone who left less of their own personality stamped on the story. I would definitely like to know what David is doing now. He should start a blog.
