Book Description
This exciting new series of books presents fundamental concepts of medicine in a self-teaching format that complements the self-testing format of the current Pre-Test series. Each book in the series contains three to five chapters covering individual concepts integrally related to each other. Concepts in the series are chosen from those thought to be most difficult by medical students. The authors-all master teachers-write their chapters according to a specific, self-teaching format designed to help the student gain an understanding of these challenging concepts. Innovative teaching techniques are employed throughout. Each chapter "stands by itself" as a complete teaching unit on a particular subject, however each chapter also leads the reader to an understanding of the position of the particular concept within the greater body of medical knowledge. The format reinforces problem solving skills across the basic science and clinical disciplines and therefore represent an important study aid for the revised problem-oriented board examination.

Customer Reviews:
valuable companion for a road trip.......2007-06-30
Quite handy companion and map information up to date. However, bigger size would have really made a difference. Smaller size is easier carry but convenience viewing is compromised.
hard to read.......2007-05-09
map is very hard to read and not categorized very well. I was very disappointed with this purchase.
The best atlas for driving in Europe.......2007-01-02
Hello, Please do not listen to the negative review that proceeded this one. I have this atlas and have used it 2x to navigate my way around Europe by car (6,000+ miles total). This atlas is great for "detailed" maps (ie small villages, etc. I also use the AAA Road Atlas of Europe for the "big picture" and general route planning. This Frommer Atlas is perfect for when you get off the main highways and want to explore Europe's backroads. If you plan on driving in Europe, this atlas is essential!
Waste of Money.......2006-12-13
This is not an atlas for an American seeking to navigate the streets of Europe. It is difficult to identify which country you are viewing, much less identify streets once you come to a specific country. The key and index are worthless. I would have given it 0 stars if that was an option. I threw mine away.
Book Description

Customer Reviews:
same as AA Road Atlas Ireland except for binding and cover.......2006-10-28
This seems like it may be out of print. (That's what it says on many other websites, and Amazon kept delaying and delaying my order, until I cancelled it today.)
Since I was going to Ireland soon, and feared this would not get to me in time, I ordered the newer AA Road Atlas Ireland (by "AA Publishing") that Amazon also sells. I just got that today, and comparing it against the "Search Inside" sample pages of this, it appears that these two Ireland road atlases are identical on EVERY SINGLE page that the "Search Inside" shows, except for the front and back cover. (The maps divide at the exact same points, have the same colors and dual language names, etc.) The only other difference I see is that the AA Road Atlas Ireland is not spiral bound like this one was. (And though you can't see it in the sample pages, the AA Road Atlas has been updated more recently, in terms of roads under construction and such.)
Therefore, if you wanted this but are unable to successfully order it (or just want to get the same content faster), I suggest you look at the AA Road Atlas Ireland.
driving in Ireland.......2006-07-16
very easy to follow - a must if you are planning to drive in Ireland
Indispensable.......2006-03-22
You need this atlas if you are going to drive yourself around Ireland. The maps are easy to read and finely detailed. Many of the names are given in both English and Irish (Gaelic); this is essential because many road signs are now in Gaelic. With the Atlas in hand you will be able to figure out where you are, and you will also develop a feel for Gaelic spelling and pronunciation.
Easy to Use.......2005-09-05
The print and use of color makes these maps very easy to use, and let's me set off on my trips with confidence that I'll have a relatively easy time navigating to where I need to be. Details like diagrams of ferry ports and possibly confusing bypasses are a wonderful addition. The spiral binding and pages are high-quality and stand up to a lot of use. A must-have on any roadtrip.

A gorgeous and hilarious guide to the French Fry Country........2004-10-20
At first I was like, "no way can they pull this off." But after skimming through the first few pages, I could see that they really put their heart and sole into this atlas. After a few pages with roads intersecting all over them, they immediately go into that whole Bush, Africa, AIDS, pharmeceutical, McDonalds, Beatlejuice, potato gun scandal.
A true classic.
You're going to LOVE FRANCE! .......2004-09-26
I've made >20 visits to France all together. Here are my reviews of the best guides....to meet you r exact needs.....I hope these are helpful and that you have a great visit! I always gauge the quality of my visit by how much I remember a year later......this review is designed to help you get the guide that will be sure YOU remember your trip many years into the future. Travel Safe and enjoy yourself to the max!
Frommer's
These are time tested guides that pride themselves on being updated annually. Although I think the guides below provide information that is in more depth or more concise (depending on what the guide is known for), if your main concern is that the guide has very little old or outdated information, then this would be a good guide for you.
Lonely Planet
Lonely Planet has City and Out To Eat Guides. They are all about the experience so they focus on doing, being, getting there, and this means they have the best detailed information, including both inexpensive and really spectacular restaurants and hotels, out-of-the-way places, weird things to see and do, the list is endless.
Michelin
Famous for their quality reviews, the Red Michelin Guides are for hotels & Restaurants, the Green Michelin Guides are for main tourist destinations. However, the English language Green guide is the one most people use and it has now been supplemented with hotel and restaurant information. These are the serious review guides as the famous Michelin ratings are issued via these books.
Fodor's
Fodor's is the best selling guide among Americans. They have a bewildering array of different guides. Here's which is what:
The Gold Guide is the main book with good reviews of everything and lots of tours, walks, and just about everything else you could think of. It's not called the Gold guide for nothing though....it assumes you have money and are willing to spend it.
SeeIt! is a concise guide that extracts the most popular items from the Gold Guide
PocketGuide is designed for a quick first visit
UpCLOSE for independent travel that is cheap and well thought out
CityPack is a plastic pocket map with some guide information
Exploring is for cultural interests, lots of photos and designed to supplement the Gold guide
MapGuide
MapGuide is very easy to use and has the best location information for hotels, tourist attractions, museums, churches etc. that they manage to keep fairly up to date. It's great for teaching you how to use the Metro. The text sections are quick overviews, not reviews, but the strong suite here is brevity, not depth. I strongly recommend this for your first few times learning your way around the classic tourist sites and experiences. MapGuide is excellent as long as you are staying pretty much in the center of the city.
Time Out
The Time Out guides are very good. Easy reading, short reviews of restaurants, hotels, and other sites, with good public transport maps that go beyond the city centre. Many people who buy more than one guidebook end up liking this one best!
Blue Guides
Without doubt, the best of the walks guides.... the Blue Guide has been around since 1918 and has extremely well designed walks with lots of unique little side stops to hit on just about any interest you have. If you want to pick up the feel of the city, this is the best book to do that for you. This is one that you end up packing on your 10th trip, by which time it is well worn.
Let's Go
Let's Go is a great guide series that specializes in the niche interest details that turn a trip into a great and memorable experience. Started by and for college students, these guides are famous for the details provided by people who used the book the previous year. They continue to focus on providing a great experience inexpensively. If you want to know about the top restaurants, this is not for you (use Fodor's or Michelin). Let's Go does have a bewildering array of different guides though. Here's which is what:
Budget Guide is the main guide with incredibly detailed information and reviews on everything you can think of.
City Guide is just as intense but restricted to the single city.
PocketGuide is even smaller and features condensed information
MapGuide's are very good maps with public transportation and some other information (like museum hours, etc.)
Rick Steves' books are not recommended. They may be an interesting read but their helpfulness is very poor. They don't do well on updates, transportation details, or anything but the first-time-tourist routine and even that is somewhat superficial on anything but the mega-major sites.
Great and necessary companion on a driving tour of France.......2002-07-16
Took this atlas on a 2,000 mile journey all over France - great, great, great atlas! Thanks to this book, we ended up visiting places where people don't see a live tourist for years. Almost all of the little local roads were marked on the map. The size of the book is just right - not too big (compare and contrast with the hardcover edition of the Michelin Atlas, a tome about an inch think weighing about 3 pounds). The atlas is very easy to use, and the best thing is that sites to see and vista points are also marked...

A lifesaver for drivers new to England's roads.......2004-01-24
Out of print? Say it isn't so! This road atlas was a life saver on my last trip to England, in October 2000. I was looking for a comprehensive yet readable guide to England's roads, and Frommer's delivered. I had never driven in England before, and thanks to this atlas, I returned in one piece!
Frommer's atlas helped my wife and me to navigate an 8-hour journey from the Lyme Regis area to Oxfordshire, with sightseeing stops to Shaftesbury and Avebury. I think we made one wrong turn on the way - easily corrected and reversed, thanks to the atlas.
The maps are extremely readable, with motorways in bold green, A-roads in solid red, and B-roads in yellow. Minor roads are also shown, but presented in a way that doesn't clutter the map or confuse the reader. The atlas also includes a detailed key to Britain's road signs - an essential feature in my opinion, and one not always found in other atlases.
I haven't started my packing list for our next trip to England. But when I do, I know this atlas will be at the top of the list.

Confusing and Hard to Read.......2003-01-20
I had four months to visit 18 countries in Europe and go castle hunting. I thought this atlas would be a great guide. I did find where I was going, but with little help from this atlas. 1) There is a 1" gap between the pages because of the spiral binding, and this also cuts names of cities and the roads in half. 2) The roads and motorways are not labeled very well. 3) The roads' colours are very similar and hard to differentiate. 4) The cover states "The fastest routes around major cities" Where is this information? I have still yet to find it in this atlas. 5) Why are the countries split up so much. I had to view pages 22-23, then 36-37 and then 50-51 just to see where I was going? American Atlas has the rest of the state on the following page, not 10 pages away. I was extremely disappointed in this atlas.
Hard to Use.......2002-10-18
I have taken several road trips across Europe and I have always used Rand McNally's European Road Atlas. Unfortunately they seem not to produce it anymore. Instead, I bought Frommer's Europe Road Atlas for a trip we are planning next year. After examining it thoroughly I have decide to return it. The main reason why is the approximate one-inch gap in the middle of all the pages due to the spiral binding. Also, all of the road colors are very similar so it is very difficult to tell whether you are looking at a highway, a toll way or a four lane road. In addition, there are very few city maps and the ones that are there have almost no detail. I would not recommend this map.

Customer Reviews:
Useless rambling.......2007-02-19
Not much more than a collection of anecdotes. Don't expect to learn much here. The section on interviewing, for instance, gives a couple of stories, then a brief guideline, with such original gems as "ask intelligent questions". Nothing on how to find the people to interview, how to connect with them, whether and what you should expect to pay, or how to actually conduct the interview.
A Collections Of Articles. That's It. Nothing Else........2006-11-30
The title should have been "How Your Articles Should Look" The book is a good read... It will get the "creative" juices flowing. Through article examples, the book shows you different methods on how your articles should look. If you're searching for a book that goes into the mechanics of article writing, this book is not it.
Not quite sure.......2004-01-29
Maybe I just didn't "get it." More likely my expectations were different than what the author intended. I was expecting "hundreds of ideas to spark my creativity" but got the same number of examples from Harpers, New Yorker, WSJ, Time and just about every other publication known to man, or so it seems. Yes I read some good, actually great, writing examples, but it never came together nor did I get the points being made. Perhaps I'll let it sit on the shelf a while and try again another day. For now, my recommendation is to pick up "How to Write Articles for Newspapers and Magazines" - more information in half the number of pages.
Peter Jacobi knows his stuff!.......2002-02-21
I'm halfway through this book and already have found ways to improve my writing. Copious examples that detail the text. I particulairly found the topic of story structure interesting - something which I had no previous knowledge.
What a disappointment!.......2001-05-30
This book was totally the opposite of what I was expecting - namely, practical down-to-earth steps in preparing a magazine article. Instead, it was filled with samples that could be called "motivational" but not the practical tips I seeking. I found the "Writer's Digest Handbook of Magazine Article Writing" by Jean Frederette to be much more of the nuts and bolts that I was looking for. Perhaps a more experienced writer would appreciate the powerful examples in this book; however, as a novice I need to know more tecnique than theory. My book will be shoved to the back of the bookcase for now.
