Customer Reviews:
Every medical student should get this book........2007-09-14
All major topics covered by the usmle step 1 are concisely and intelligently covered in this book. The figures are amazing and integrate concepts so that you are sure to get the big picture and the most important points from each chapter. I use this as my main textbook for my medical biochemistry course. After I get the concepts covered in this book, filling in the details from lectures or my required textbook, (Textbook of Biochemistry With Clinical Correlations, is easy. I am sure that it will make studying for step 1 easier too since, with the aid of this book, I have been able to focus on the big picture from day 1. Also, if there is no preview here on amazon, I think the book's website has sample chapters. [...].
Great reference!.......2007-09-13
This is an excellent resource for decoding those lectures delivered in a less than linear fashion. Well organized, excellent illustrations (cartoons) explain most concepts. Will save your hours of banging your head against the wall. It is saving my happy behind right now! Would not recommend for board review - too comprehensive - but do NOT go through biochem without this translator.
read for boards.......2007-05-25
i read this for the boards(step1). It is readable with nice tables and diagrams that compliment it. you may not have time to read it, but if you have time, pls read this book for step 1. You should also read it during course work, then when the step 1 comes along it should be easier to read. i wish i read it during course work, but i read it for my step 1 and i made a 229/95
The Newest and Best Edition.......2007-02-28
I have used all three of the editions of thisbook in my classes. By far the best review text, the addition of color illustrations adds greatly to the conciseness of the text. Color certainly helps me remember things a bit better, as I have a visual memory. A good study aid and USMLE prep book.
must have.......2007-02-01
if you take biochem, gotta have this book. by the way, biochem blows.

Customer Reviews:
Very thorough, detailed guidebook to Honduras.......2007-09-21
I highly recommend this guidebook for your travels in Honduras. On the whole, it's very thorough and complete. I do wish it had more detail, however, for San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa.
A friend I traveled with had the Lonely Planet Honduras guidebook, and we both agreed that Moon was more helpful -- it had a wider range of information and was more accurate.
A must if you're planning a trip to Honduras.......2007-04-19
Don't leave to Honduras without this book! We went on a 10 day trip and we didn't go anywhere without this. It is very informative and truely lets you know the best things to do and the best places to stay in each city you visit. Included are phone numbers, addresses, prices and maps so you can find your way around the country and know what to expect. I highly recommend this book to anyone travelling to Honduras; it definitely made our trip better.
Fabulous Guide Book .......2007-01-14
My husband and I just got back from Honduras -- this was the best guide book by far. It was accurate, concise, informative -- we used it as our only guide for our two and a half week trip. It gave us the flexibility to plan our trip and book our hotels while we were in country. We noticed that it was THE BOOK that other travelers from all over used while in Honduras also. We would highly recommend this book for anyone!
Little Updated from Last Version.......2007-01-13
I live in Honduras and used the previous version of the Moon Handbook quite a bit. In looking through the new version I find little that have been updated except things like the politics and some new pictures. I was quite disappointed to still see some restaurants and hotels that were listed in the last book and again reprinted in this one but that are out of business. Also the tourist visa information is incorrect due to a new law which was passed before the book was published. This mistake alone could cost some people time, money and hassle.
I like the layout and for the most part the information is good and correct but I think it is a bit of a scam that they call it a new version.

Where else but in Honduras can you find a seamless blend of powdery soft, palm-lined beaches, untouched coral reefs, Mayan ruins, cobblestone colonial villages, dense jungle, monkey-filled forests, and the nicest people this side of paradise? Honduras's appeal is gaining tourist attention, but it's a slow process. You can still wander small villages and be treated with kind hospitality, without the dollar frenzy of more tourism-dependent nations. Honduras Handbook has extensive coverage of hiking, backpacking, scuba diving, snorkeling, and boating; reviews of hundreds of restaurants and hotels; 35 detailed maps; a Spanish glossary with Honduran slang; plus articles on the ruins of Copán, the Bay Islands, and the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve. It's a good time to go to Honduras, and Chris Humphrey's Handbook is an excellent guide.
Book Description
Honduras is an adventure traveler's paradise whether they're looking to relax on the beaches of Tela on the Caribbean north coast, comb the Mayan ruins of Copan, trek in the mountain forests near Gracias, or scuba dive on the Bay Islands of Roatan, Utila, and Guanaja. Completely revised and updated, the third edition of Moon Handbooks Honduras is packed with the most current information on sightseeing options, recreation, accommodations, restaurants, as well as color photographs, custom maps, insightful sidebars, a Spanish phrasebook, and a complete coverage of the country's culture, history, and social issues. Independent travelers will appreciate Chris Humphrey's firsthand tips on all aspects of travel in this unspoiled Central American destination.
Customer Reviews:
"Alli No Mas".......2005-08-04
Whenever you ask for directions in Honduras, this is what you'll be told: "alli no mas", just a little further down the road. Take this book with you instead.
Christopher Humphrey's handbook gives you the "why", along with the "where" and the "how much". Conscientious travelers know that there's more to a place than cheap, clean hotels, or cheap, reliable restaurants. Traveling involves knowing what makes a place special, what to look for which is unique and different, and what is it about a place that guarantees it a place in our memories. This book provides the answers.
I lived and worked in Honduras for two years in the 70's, and I return often. This is the book I take with me. The contributors have an excellent understanding of Honduran history and culture, and this book is a very good resource for understanding a beautiful and little-known country.
So, if you go to Honduras, ride the campo busses, drink a couple of Salva Vidas, enjoy a fine cigar or two, and don't miss eating that fabulous North Coast sopa de mariscos. And don't leave home without this guidebook.
Que les vayan muy bien!
The one to get for Honduras!.......2005-07-02
I'm not sure there even is another country-specific guidebook for Honduras, but if you're going to be there for even a few days this is the one to get! I've used a lot of different guidebook series in many parts of the world, and I can confidently say that the country-specific Moon Handbooks for Central America are far and away the best guidebooks I've ever used. They're extremely complete in every way--both in the practical and the historical--and they include "hidden gems" not mentioned in other guidebooks. That's because these guidebooks are written by people who've lived in the countries they're writing about, and clearly care about these countries. It really shows through in the quality of the books. You might want to read the reviews of the Moon Handbook for Nicaragua to get a sense of the quality of Moon's Honduras handbook--they're similar in many ways.
Terrific Book, very helpful.......2000-09-07
Honduras Handbook has been very helpful to me in my travel through Honduras. It is comprehensive, and especially strong in historical references. I look forward to the 2nd edition which should reflect the reality of tourism in Honduras after Mitch. However, most of the information continues to be accurate and helpful.
An invaluable source.......2000-07-14
I found this guidebook invaluable on my Honduran journey. The book was for the most part, highly accurate, informed, and well written. It is clear that the author traveled extensively throughout Honduras and was able to learn about the culture and the people. I also found the historical references fascinating. They enhanced my trip. I highly recommend this book to anyone visiting Honduras.
Wonderful mix of history and travel information........1999-05-01
This book is full of wonderful facts and tidbits about Honduras. It contains information about the well known tourist spots such as Copan and the Bay Islands. But it also highlights lesser known out of the way tows such as La Esperanza (My hometown) and Gracias. I enjoyed it thoughrougly and refer to it often. As a bonus, It is full of historical facts from Pre-history , The Colonial and Republican eras and the not too distant past. I love it. Carlos Rosa Miami, FL

Customer Reviews:
Trusty Travel Companion.......2003-11-27
Another hard-working Moon Handbook that gets the job done. Chris Humphrey has done an in-depth analysis of Honduran travel considerations and come up with a balanced and useful guide. He handles the basics well - his reviews and recommendations seem to be accurate and on the mark.
I particularly like his more off-the-beaten track sidetrips - my recent trip there was greatly enhanced by some of the lesser-known tourist attractions. He also gives realistic, no-nonsense advice about health and safety issues. Honduras is, after all, a third-world country with a population that often suffers from health, poverty, and crime problems. Humphreys addresses these problems with straightforward common-sense but without being an alarmist about it. He also exhibits a very welcome aura of compassion for the less-fortunate, complete with suggestions on how to entertain the local youngsters.
A fine effort.
Moon Handbooks Honduras.......2003-07-01
I should have looked more closely at the publishing date rather then the glowing reviews by other readers because most of the information is from 1999 (published in 2000) and is fairly out of date. Though I love the format and the amounts of information in the book I found myself using The Open Road Honduras Guide (2002) for my hotel, bus and pricing information. If you're going to Honduras this year I'd recommend the Open Road Guide - especially for E-mail and Web Site info as that tends to change very fast.
A Model Guidebook! Will be hard to beat this one.......2003-04-16
This is what a guidebook should be like. I have traveled extensively around the world using many different guidebooks, but none have surpassed this one. Chris Humphrey has done a great job. He really understands the country and its people, and is a very good writer. This guidebook thoroughly covers the Honduran culture, customs, society, economy and history. It contains lots of interesting nuggets of information that will help you get more out of your trip. It also makes getting around and finding a place to stay and things to do very easy since the information is very accurate and up-to-date. Overall, this Honduras guide is hard to beat.
Excellent.......2000-11-10
(From Planeta Journal) - This second edition by Humphrey revises the nuts-and-bolts information about traveling in Honduras and provides an entertaining read for anyone heading to this Central American country. This guidebook has great details about Celaque National Park, the petroglyphs of El Sauce and even an analysis of the country's maquiladoras. Honduras seems to have it all -- Caribbean beaches, coral reefs, ancient Maya ruins, colonial villages, and virgin forests -- but it takes a good guidebook to get you there. Independent travelers will relish this book.

Grammer at it's best!.......2007-02-13
This book gives you great knowledge of grammer techniques. it also provieds the answers for the exercises in the back to make sure you have learned and have the correct answer. It is a great book.
educational linguistics - a valuable resource for new secondary English teachers.......2006-08-09
This text coherently articulates a systematic approach to integrating the teaching of grammar, from word to discourse, with the teaching of writing and rhetoric.
I am just entering the secondary school teaching profession. I have an educational, personal, and professional (7 years in publishing) background in literature and writing, but I am just a beginner in linguistics and grammar (however you wish to define it).

Exactly As Expected.......2006-02-01
Rhetorical Grammar, by Martha Kolln, is an excellent choice for anyone wanting to improve their English grammar. Each chapter brings valuable information to the reader, with exercises placed throughout, and answers to the odd numbered questions in the back. This handbook is easy to understand and has ideas that are easy to grasp. I'd definitely recommend it for teachers and students alike!
WAH, fantastic........2001-11-16
Rhetorical Grammar, by Martha Kolln, is a great way to get a grasp on the grammatical intricasies of the English language. But, in order to enjoy it and get something out of it, you have to be willing to do the exercises, at least the even ones, and work with the book. If you don't give the book a chance you won't like it.
Kolln lays out a very effective method of teaching grammar. Her method is so effective, in fact, that top linguistics and English graduate/undergraduate programs, nationwide, use this book. What Kolln does is explain grammar in a way which doesn't involve sentence diagramming, the most difficult part of many grammar classes. She explains how grammar controls the language.
Kolln has a way of explaining grammar that will help anyone struggling in the subject to become a better writer. The best thing about this book is that it's written in a way that writers, college students, graduate students and even high school students can understand and learn from. This is one book I'll never regret having bought.
