A Great Learning Tool!.......2007-09-19
As a vet student I am using this book to study for anatomy. The pictures are detailed and accurate! This is a great resource for learning equine anatomy, and coloring in the pictures helps with memorization.
Good overview, nice drawings.......2007-07-17
This item is named 'coloring atlas', so I expected colours and pictures, but it is drawings with no colours. This book gives an excellent overview i a very systematic manner. Good to get understanding, but not details i excess.
great equine anatomy book.......2007-05-15
This equine anatomy book is great for 4-H kids, especially those studying for Hippology. It's also great for pre-vet students or even veterinary students.
Great Teaching Tool for Young Riders .......2007-05-10
Making anatomy interesting for middle and high school kids is a tough task at best. This book takes advantage of the natural love of horses to teach them more about horses in a very scientific way. And it's fun. A nice tool to use on days when the weather makes riding impossible.
Excellent resource.......2007-01-09
This book contains very large and clear illustrations and excellent captions. It is exactly what I have been searching for and have not been able to find even though I have used several books and resources before. I can highly recommend this book.

Customer Reviews:
great refresher course!.......2006-07-30
I purchased this book to become reacquainted with equine reproduction after spending a year in equine practice without reproduction. The text was direct, succinct, and well-versed without extra details that come with other in-depth textbooks. There are many pictures and diagrams, though I would have preferred to see more present. Overall, I feel that the Manual is a great refresher course for veterinarians and equine reproduction specialists. However, I would not recommend this book as the sole text while learning equine reproduction for the first time.
Not a good book.......2004-02-11
This book is for the very advanced. It uses all medical terminology and is very basic with details. They assume it is for vet students. There is no glossary and there are highlighted words that they never explain. It is pure awful!!!!
Manual of Equine Reproduction.......2000-02-24
This book covers every aspect of equine reproduction from the preperation of a stallion prior to the start of the breeding season all the way through to the care and management of the mare and foal post partum. This book covers in absolute detail, the step by step format of every situation that would or could occur during the 15 to 18 month period that leads from conception to post foaling management. This is a book that every farm manager as well as the weekend horse breeder should have access to 24 hours a day.
Customer Reviews:
One of the best anatomy books .......2007-04-11
This book is a must have for equine enthusiasts and therapists. The illustrations are clear and the text descriptions are easy to follow. It covers many conditions that our horses will have diagnosed by the veterinarian. I require that all of my course attendees have this book.
Excellent illustrations; a good reference book for the equine enthusiast.......2006-08-01
This book has great illustrations page by page and covers a myraid of equine medical subjects from OCD to suspensory ligaments to foaling out. Although it is not extremely in depth I think this is a "must have" for every horse owner as it covers the topics you will come into contact with as a horse owner and talks about possible treatments at time of publishing. For a veterinary text for owners or vet students, I think this is a very good one. I own both Volumes 1 and 2 and utilize them quite a few times every year.

Book Description
George Stubbs was one of Britain’s most innovative artists. Such is the present reputation of his paintings, with their astonishingly convincing renderings of both animals and people, that it is easy to forget how much of his success was based on rigorous scientific observation. In 1756, Stubbs rented a remote farmhouse, where he erected a scaffolding to hold the cadavers of horses as he dissected and drew them. After 18 months of single-minded dedication, Stubbs produced the drawings for The Anatomy of the Horse, which he later etched himself. The result was a sensation. Letters of congratulation poured in from scientists all over Europe, amazed not only at the perfection of the finished work, but that it had been produced without patronage. It remained a textbook for artists and scientists for well over a century, and to this day, the strange, spare beauty of these prints continue to fascinate.
Customer Reviews:
Not what I thought.......2007-02-04
This is an interesting book and the drawings are lovely. However, you don't know what you are looking at since the explanation plates are way way too tiny to read. You'd have to take the pages and blow them up to read what is drawn. Instead of 4 plates to a page how about each plate to a page. Don't buy if you are trying learn about the horse because you can't read the tiny tiny print.
One of the great horse artists.......2007-01-24
George Stubbs is considered one of the all time great sports artists. Although he focused predominantly on horses, study of his work reveals that his talents were diverse and impressive. It was fairly unique in his time to do detailed anatomical studies, and George Stubbs was somewhat of a pioneer in that field. He even rigged up a special apparatus to hold the horse carcass in life-like poses as he dissected and sketched. I have an older edition of this book, and it's so used and loved that the pages are falling out!
I've been a student and follower of George Stubbs since childhood ... partly because I've always been a "horse-crazy kid", and partly because I'm actually a descendant of the artist. I had the honor of viewing a marvelous display of his original works at Yale University's art museum many years ago. Seeing the artwork in person made me appreciate his talents even more.
By purchasing and studying this book, you are not only reviewing a very accurate rendering of the anatomy of the horse, you are holding a significant piece of both art and biological history in your hands.
Don't hesitate if you're considering a purchase. You won't regret it.
A Must Have for the Equine Student.......2000-06-26
I found that the book was very well written and was jamed packed with need to know information. It provided me with the information that I need in my Equine Science class. It had alot of stuff that the text book did not have. I would recommend this book to student that is taking an Equine related class.

Book Description
We all want our horses to be able to perform to the best of their ability and we know that an effective training regime has many facets. The horse must be worked correctly, fed a balanced ration, mentally and physically healthy and well looked after. This book examines a further aspect of the horse's performance: it is designed to help all horse owners and riders to understand how a horse moves and how its anatomy helps, or hinders, the horse's athletic ability.First, the book uses sequences of photographs and detailed anatomical drawings to show the systems of support and movement at each phase of each of the horse's gaits. The walk, trot, canter, gallop and jump are all examined, and the effect of the rider on the horse evaluated so that the rider can take appropriate action to avoid hindering the horse. Tips are provided throughout on ways in which the horse's life can be made easier, such as saddle fitting, warming up and cooling down procedures.

An authoritative examination of equine anatomy.......2003-02-16
Collaboratively written by equestrian expert Sarah Pilliner, freelance illustrator Samantha Elmhurst, and equine nutritionist and consultant Zoe Davies, The Horse In Motion: The Anatomy And Physiology Of Equine Locomotion is an extensive and authoritatively examination of equine anatomy and how horses walk, trot, canter, and jump. Profusely illustrated with numerous black-and-white photographs and sketches, and offering invaluable tips to avoid hindering a horse as well as a wealth of information about how horses move, The Horse In Motion is very highly recommended reading, especially for equine enthusiasts and for anyone with an interest in painting or animating these robust creatures. Also very highly recommended is Sarah Pilliner and Zoe Davies' earlier work, Equine Science, Health And Performance (0632039132; [money]).
Customer Reviews:
Incredible in detail, a must have........1999-10-02
When I first sat down with this book, I could not stop looking at the incredible detail of the photos. I am a farrier and needed detailed images of the workings of the legs. This is way more than I could have hoped for. Layer by layer the horse is dissected with each vein, tendon, ligament and muscle painstakingly pointed out, the photographs are perfect with excellent color, and hand drawn diagrams accompany each image with each item labeled in latin. This book is absolutely invaluable.
