Customer Reviews:
A Must for McQueen Fans.......2007-03-10
Wow, the photographs are beautiful and highly personal. It's like seeing a private photo album from this marriage. Plus the text is informative and revealing. I'm so glad this part of Steve's life is now so well documented.
It goes perfectly on my coffee table.
The Real Steve McQueen.......2007-03-10
Intimate, touching, insightful, sometimes hilarious passages into the life of The King of Cool, Steve McQueen. We live in such a visual, media oriented world that we tend to get preconceived notions of who movie stars are, based on what we see. The world saw Steve McQueen as the ultimate man- handsome, macho, cool, someone they could spend their hard-earned bucks on back in the day and get their money's worth at the theater. Barbara McQueen, his widow, saw the real Steve McQueen. She got to know Steve, the family man; Steve, the man who loved the great outdoors and his morning constitutional; Steve, the great mashed potato guru, airplane and motorcycle enthusiast. "The Last Mile" shows how little we all knew of his kindness and philanthropy; how little we knew of his yearning for happiness and how he ultimately found it. The photos in this book will enchant you, leave you wanting more. One of my favorites is one where Barbara embraces Steve from behind. That photo alone is worth the book to me. Beautiful model, handsome superstar, real people worn out from what life has dealt them. You can see it in their faces. It makes me sigh everytime I see it because there's not one person I know who hasn't been to that point and had nothing left but an embrace. You will love this book and you will want more. I guarantee you.
Steve McQueen: The Last Mile.......2007-03-10
This book takes you into the very intimate and private world of Steve McQueen between 1977 and 1980.
Consisting of approximately 150 color photos (most of which were taken by his wife Barbara McQueen) and accompanied by Barbara's recollections of their time together.
Unlike some other photobooks where you sense you are watching the star pose, this book shows you the absolutely unguarded and relaxed side of the man as he goes about his daily life, talking to friends, tinkering on his bikes, dozing in an armchair or washing down the pavement outside his airplane hanger.
These are the sort of photos you would usually never see of a movie star - Steve in the morning before he has showered, looking drowsily over a hot mug of coffee, househunting in Montana with Barbara, or lying asleep on the living room floor with his pet dog lying on top of him.
You really feel like you have stepped into Steve and Barbara's house, it is that personal.
The text accompaniment is also very entertaining and educational as Barbara shares her memories of how Steve wooed her, the initial problems he had to overcome in winning her parents approval of the relationship, his personal lessons to her on how to dismantle and rebuild a motorcycle (sadly unsuccessful) or a gun (successful), how he came to propose, and many other intimate and fun moments. Overall it takes you through their entire relationship and serves as something of an autobiography in itself.
All these photos are beautifully presented in a high gloss large coffee table book format.
Released with the first limited edition run of the book is a 45 minute audio CD of Steve verbally working through the script of the film "Tom Horn". It is fascinating to hear him talk about his vision of the film, rework the script and plan his character. You get a real sense of the epic film he wanted Tom Horn to be (but was denied due to the studio slashing the budget), and you realise just how insightful he was with film and acting. The amount of thought he puts into his role should forever dispel the notion that he just played himself on film.
Steve McQueen - The Last Mile is a very special book and no fans collection will be complete without it.
Fantastic!.......2007-03-10
A fantastic book on the last years of legend Steve McQueen! Great job by Barbara McQueen and Marshall Terrill! Touching moments! Great photos!
BITCH"EN.......2007-03-08

Book Description
The greatest automobile racing team in the world.
Inside Ferrari is an exclusive and intimate view inside Formula l's most successful, most alluring and most secretive professional racing teams. This book provides a rare glimpse into the world famous Ferrari factory, inside the Ferrari garage and inside the Ferrari test track, capturing what it takes to be one of the world's great sports teams.
The camera division of the Olympus Corporation Camera Company, a sponsor of the Ferrari Formula 1 team, commissioned Jon Nicholson to go behind the scenes at Ferrari and take exclusive photographs of its Fl Team at work -- in preparation for races, and during races. Working as a team, Nicholson and racing journalist Maurice Hamilton created a candid profile that is packed with exciting stories and on-the-spot action photographs of behind-the-scenes workers and such internationally famous drivers as Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. Here are (almost) all the secrets involving:
- The factory
- The testing
- The cars
- The drivers
- Racing
- The Ferrari racing family.
No one else has ever been given such access to Ferrari, and this book will be a delight for millions of Formula 1 racing fans.
Customer Reviews:
Ferrari fans - You will want to buy this book.......2007-01-10
I bought this book for my dad for Christmas. We are huge Ferrari fans and it's great to have a book on Ferrari that has some authenticity... there are stax of book on Ferrari, the cars, the F1 team and so on, but few of them have any real ties to the factory.
This is where this book is different. The foreword is by Jean Todt, the photographer is a hugely respected F1 photographer and the guy who wrote the bits between the photos is one of the most successful F1 writers around - a great recipe!
The authors were given exclusive access to Ferrari. Anyone who has been to the factory will know how secretive and restricted it is for visitors and appreciate seeing this hidden side of Ferrari.
If you are a Ferrari fan, you will want to add this one to your collection!
Outstanding addition to your Ferrari collection.......2007-01-08
I had read about this book several months back, and, having followed Ferrari Formula 1 racing since the early 1970s, I had to have it. The photography is excellent, although most of the pictures are behind the scenes at Maranello or at various racing circuits around the world. The cars and the crews definitely take frontstage here, with the drivers being mentioned secondarily.
The author and photographer were given access to the team during the time that Rubens Barrichello was Michael Schumacher's teammate. This was definitely the modern golden age of Ferrari, with 5 straight driver's championships for Schumacher. The insider information is nice, but if you really follow Formula 1 you have probably heard much of this before.
What I liked best was the section featuring the tour of Enzo Ferrari's old office, the comparison of the racing and road car divisions of the factory, and the details of both Maranello and Fiorano, the two test tracks that Ferrari owns. The fact that the team can take the cars out, run full racing lengths daily, wet down the track as needed to test tires, etc. shows how important racing is to the workers that have taken Ferrari to the pinnacle of the pinnacle of motorsport.
At the price, this book is a steal. Stop reading and buy it!

Customer Reviews:
Quick run through of Ferrari F1 up to 1998.......2000-07-16
At Amazon.com, the publish date of this book is March 1999 but it is actually November 1998.
This is only a small book and do not expect much detail in the history of Ferrari F1. If you are a busy man and just want a quick run through, this will help.
Ferrari F1 fans, skip this one. I don't think you will get any excitement from reading this book. If you look for content, this one is lacking. If you look for colorful pictures, there are only some average ones.
Book Description
Scuderia Ferrari granted former Team Lotus engineer Peter Wright unparalleled access to the team principals and to Michael Schumacher's 2000 championship-winning car, and the result is the most detailed, specific, and awe-inspiring analysis of a modern F1 car ever published. The principles behind the design of the car and engine are explained, often by the key people who are responsible for performing the work. Detailed descriptions of systems and components are accompanied by technical specifications, assembly drawings, functional details, and performance analysis. Lavishly illustrated with Ferrari's own technical drawings, computer models, and photos, the book also features original cutaway paintings and drawings by Tony Matthews.
Candid interviews with Michael Schumacher, Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, Rory Byrne, Paolo Martinelli, and many others reveal the inner workings of the Scuderia as well as the philosophies and approaches each department head uses to lead his group. Brawn, Technical Director, has described the state in which the Ferrari team operates as being similar to a state of war. As you read this book, learning in extensive detail about every aspect of the car and the commitment and effort put forth by the Scuderia, you will develop the very strong impression that Brawn is not exaggerating.
Customer Reviews:
This is the One F1 book.......2007-05-07
The is by far the best book on Formula 1 that I've read.
The author, Peter G. Wright, is a former engineer from the Lotus F1 team, who developped the fundations of aerodynamics in modern F1 cars.
Jean Todt let him access all the secrets of the technology inside the Ferrari F1-2000, and Wright details every aspects of the car. You can see pictures of all key components of the engine, gear box, suspensions, brakes and aerodynamics. And the illustrations of Tony Matthews are truly amazing.
Really, this book is a Masterpiece... as well as the F1-2000.
Not a technical book.......2007-03-08
I thought it would be more technical, it spends too many pages praising Ferrari, and maybe it was the necessary publicity to let him do the book. It has some awesome drawings, but the remaining spaces for the pictures are filled with standard shots of the car on the track. The publicity around this book was very big so I was expecting more, more in depth technical data or secrets.
A great bday gift for the mechanic in your life........2007-02-10
I bought this gift for my husband for his birthday and he's been totally engrossed in it. He originally saw it in Road and Track and was intrigued because he's big into formula 1 and ferraris. He hopes to work on them someday. Point is, it's a great gift if you've got a mechanic or ferrari enthusiast in your life.
Beautiful book , short on technical details.......2006-01-01
This is a beautifully produced book, with many high-quality photographs and drawings. A perfect gift for the F1 enthusiast, especially as an introduction. It devotes a chapter to every aspect of an F1 race car, and is lavishly illustrated and well written. The author, having designed F1 cars himself. obviously knows his topic.
However, it falls seriously short when it comes to technical issues. The chapter devoted to the engine, for example, is woefully short and devoid of any detail. The technical challenges these teams encounter in producing a naturally aspirated 3 liter engine than can live at 14-18,000 rpm, produce 800hp and survive for 200+ miles must be tremendous. But only the most obvious issues are addressed (low reciprocating mass, etc.), and at a superficial level. The engine is only described in the broadest terms. I was surprised when I realized I was at the end of the chapter, having read what seemed like a preface. Considering the expertise of the author and the fact that he was describing a car that trounced the competition in 2000, there should have been more depth to the book. After all, Ferrari did make him wait four years before publishing.
A book for every Formula One enthusiast.......2005-06-06
This book is very well put together with a right blend of images & text. Covers every aspect involved in designing & building a formula one car with a focus on the Ferrari F1-2000.
Being an engineer I would have loved it to be bit more technical but there are a lot of other books that achieve this. This book is for any enthusiast introducing himself to the technical aspects of a modern F1 car.
Keeps away complex equations & explains everything in simple & elegant manner.
I recommend it highly.

Book Description
This best selling text analyzes the major communication theories at a level appropriate for both lower and upper level courses. The material is presented in a coherent manner and strikes a balance between humanistic, scientific, classical, and contemporary theories. (In contrast to previous editions--no theories have been dropped.) Ethics are covered throughout the text. A First Look at Communication Theory is
the most widely used textbook for the communication theory course.
Customer Reviews:
Worth It.......2007-01-16
I'll admit, communication theory made my head hurt as I had the daunting task of taking several theorists, study their theories, then present the information to the class in plain english. Sometimes it was difficult, but I learned a lot.
This book is really awesome (after the fact), and I'm sure my classmates feel the same way.
But here's the funny thing: it's been a year since I've taken that class, and I can still remember the theorist, the theory, and sometimes I go around watching behavior and I'm able to call out the theory and some of the traits expressed in that theory. That's thanks to Em for making the text plain and sometimes simple.
Also, my teacher was just good.
If you apply yourself and attempt to open your mind you'll like the book regardless of the price. I still have my old blue one, although there is a newer edition (a green one). *wink*
Well worth the money.......2006-11-16
Somebody complained that this text is overpriced. I like a low price as much as the next person, but this text is well worth the cost! My other communications texts literally put me to sleep trying to slog through them. Not so with this one! It is engaging, easy to read, and entertaining. Em Griffin writes about the theories in ways that stick in your head so that you can keep things straight a little better. His writing style is clear and doesn't leave you re-reading sentences to make sure you know what they really said. He also incorporates cartoons and film lists that illustrate theory components.
I highly recommend this text.
Very useful and practical textbook!.......2002-06-04
I used an earlier edition while in graduate school and found it very helpful. Griffin has boiled down and concisely described about 30 or so communication theories. What's more, he does so in practical terms and concepts that college students can easily grasp and apply. While I believe that this text is more applicable to the undergrad than grad student, it is an excellent reference and text. As a professor of communication, I now use it in my undergrad courses on communication theory.
And by the way, what's all this [stuff] about liberals and communications??? I am a liberal (bleeding heart variety, and proud of it), I teach communication, and I think the book is valuable, candid, and balanced....
terribly overpriced.......2000-03-22
The information that is in this book is good but it is way overpriced. I could get the same amount of information in anthor book for 30 dollars cheaper.
Book Description
As expected, skill in drawing powerful, combat scenes showing judo, karate, kendo, boxing, and other similar sports is an indispensable element to sports manga. For that reason, this volume in the acclaimed HOW TO DRAW MANGA series provides the reader with thorough explanations for drawing the martial arts and combat sports. This book methodically covers everything from basic movements to practical applications of the sports to actual manga scenes.
Customer Reviews:
I...like it?.......2006-12-20
This book has 5 chapters.
Judo
Karate
Kendo
Boxing
and street fighting
The first four chapters are really good. They're researched very well and cover little things that only an expert might know. For example, the differences between a judo uniform and a karate uniform, the fact that if a corner man enters the ring during the round the boxer is disqualified, how to put on a kendo headwrap, things like that.
Also, the book does a very good job of covering both sexes. There's even a note that says "women usually wear a t shirt under their judo uniform, men don't"
The beginning of the book also has some illustrations with some great ideas and techniques
However. The street fighting section is HORRIBLE. And that's the section I needed the most with the way I do my manga. Also, the artist of the street fighting section doesn't bother with facial expression AT ALL. ALL of the characters have the exact same expression on their face in every pose on every page of the last chapter. It's horrid.
But overall, a pretty good idea. Well researched and well drawn, save for the last chapter. I'd recommend the book to anyone who wants to learn how to draw real, accurate martial arts
Pretty good.......2006-07-23
I must say, when you look at the cover you are going to expect the contents of the book to be a little different than what's in it. It's okay though, especially if you plan on drawing a manga that contains kendo, karate, and other forms of fighting. It gives you a run down on the gear you would use. So it's perfect for those who are interested in doing a action manga in that category.
Great reference for more of a realistic approach.......2006-04-26
This is a great reference book. I must say though, the art inside isn't too, well, pretty. Not that its horrible, but, it certainly isn't as anime/manga'esc as the cover might lead you on. So, in that case, I suppose you'll just have to incorporate your own style with the poses and such inside.
This book is NOT for beginners. To those of you, who are beginners, the pictures inside might be too confusing to imitate on a piece of paper.
Other then that, get it, if none of the above are of any concern to you.
Not manga, but real........2005-10-08
Don't let the cute cover-girl fool you; this isn't about manga fighting styles. These are real styles, with real people. There are also pages dedicated to the uniforms and equipment needed to make your drawings come to life. It's a very useful book.
It's decent.......2005-04-23
When I first got this book I wasn't a very good artist, so I thought that it was bad. However, as my skill grew I realized it had alot more to offer then what I had originally though it had. I don't think the book would be very suitable for beginners, but for more intermediate artist I think it is rather helpful. The book features several styles of martial arts, like karate and judo and various outfits and positions that would be found in those sports. It makes an excellent reference for when you need to draw a fighting scene or someone wearing the uniform that would go with that individual martial arts.
