Book Description
The interaction of water at organic surfaces or interfaces is of fundamental and technological interest and importance in chemistry, physics and biology. Progress towards an in-depth, molecular interpretation of the structure and dynamics of interfacial water needs a range of novel experimental and simulation techniques. We are now reaching the stage at which we understand, at the molecular level, the mutual perturbation at a macromolecule/water interface. The aims of this book are to provide with a comprehensive background to the properties of bulk water at the microscopic level and with a substantial account of the theoretical and experimental contributions which have been done to understand the role of water in various systems from some model systems to the more complex ones such as the biological systems.

Customer Reviews:
Good, but . . ........2000-02-18
I have mixed feelings about this book -- there are sections which are extraordinarily helpful, and then he spoils it. The most useful sections, and ones which other touring books would be wise to emulate, are his selections of helpful letters to various people (hotels, cycling shops, etc.) written in French for the linguistically challenged (like me). However, contrary to the remarks of the previous reviewer, my wife and I found that the selection of roads was not small country lanes -- even when they paralleled the route selected by Mr. Simpson.
We toured through the Dordogne and Mr. Simpson's route both out of Bordeaux, and then later in the trip the section from Cahors back towards Bordeaux were on major roads when wonderful alternatives were at hand. We found this inexplicable. For the first part of the book I rate it at 5 stars -- but as the route selection is so marginal (at least where we tried to use it) I have to downgrade to 3. The best of both worlds was to use this book for preparation, and then another for actual route planning. For that I highly recommend the Whitehill's book, 14 Tours Geared for Discovery.

Best single book on biking in France I have seen.......1999-09-29
Jerry H. Simpson Jr. became interested in bicycling in France when he started touring France while part of the American Army stationed in France after WWII. While the book lacks glitz, the routes he has picked are extraodinarily good. Most of them utilize small, rural, lightly trafficed farm road (tertiary roads) in excellent condition. While this was published in 1992, and Simpson does not plan a new edition, it, still, is simply the best
Book Description
Chances are excellent that your ancestors came to America from somewhere-England, Spain, Germany, China, Africa. Can you imagine how they felt as they left their homes, what they left behind? Do you want to know? Would you know where to even start looking for the details? Author and genealogist John P. Colletta prepares you to undertake the search. He tells you not only what fundamental facts you need to know about your immigrant ancestor before beginning, but suggests where you may find that information as well.
Customer Reviews:
They Came in Ships.......2004-06-26
This book is a must for anybody working on their genealogy. It is packed with information and is easy to read. Dont let the size of this book fool you! The author explains everything perfectly. There is so much information that you will have a hard time putting this book down. I recommend it for all, novice and professional genealogist.
Excellent Information.......2000-07-30
This is an excellent book for find passenger lists that are not at the National Archives.A must have for finding them.
They Came In Ships.......2000-04-24
There is an unbelievable amount of information packed into this book and it is organized in a way that works for both the experienced and new genealogist. I had almost given up finding my immigrant ancestors in several lines I'm researching until I discovered this gem. By following the step by step information given here, I was able to find them all! Don't overlook the bibliography. The information in it alone is well worth the price of the book. Thank you, Dr. Colletta!
An Excellent Resource.......1999-11-28
Concisely summarizes the methods by which passenger lists can found. Highly recommended.
Invaluable Genealogical Tool!.......1999-08-24
If you are, as I was, baffled by the maze of microfilm and sources involved in trying to track down your ancestors' ships lists, you need this book!! The author very clearly explains the how the films are indexed, the exceptions to the rules, etc. Perhaps the most useful aspect of this book is the way the author walks you through various examples of how to take whatever information you have about your ancestor and how to use the indexes to track down where to start searching for your ancestor's ship. I read this book cover to cover twice, then tackled the library, and finally accomplished something! I recommend it VERY highly.

Customer Reviews:
this book is okay..........2005-10-10
Book arrived fast. The book was helpful but I wish the quality of the images were a little better.
Clipart without a cause.......2005-08-12
Nice collection of clipart, but no associated names, sort of like a collection of Scottish Tartans with no clan names
Great Japanese Crest Motif Book.......2005-08-06
I just love this Japanese motif book and CD Rom. I mainly use this book to lay out quilt designs, add the Japanese motifs for my address labels and letter heads. You can transfer the designs onto graph paper for cross stitching or needlepoint.
Having the CD Rom to print out these motif designs is just the best thing. It sure beats manually tracing the designs onto graph paper to enlarge the motifs. All you need to do now is put the CD into your computer, copy, adjust the size of the motif and print. Dover truly makes the best clip arts for your projects.
Certainly not what I expected........2005-07-23
Pitifully low resolution for the vast majority of the designs, and the high(er) res images were poorly scanned copies.
This is not what I've come to expect from Dover.
Did not include many well-known kamon.
Book Description
This treasury of more than 450 lovely designs preserves the original spirit and subtlety of Japanese art while sharpening and enhancing the reproducibility of the designs themselves. Included are black-and-white depictions of people in traditional garb, a generous sampling of nature's bounty, decorative family crests, bold geometric designs, fruit tree blossoms, demons, dragons, and much more.
Customer Reviews:
Very nice for faces, animals and repeating motifs.......2007-10-05
I've been looking through this series for ideas for polymer and metal clay jewelry designs. The faces and figures are lovely, and the repeating motifs of flowers and geometrics are very nice. The dragons are a little lame, but I like Chinese dragons. The gin spirits are delightful and so active, they more than make up for the lazy dragon motifs. A very passible source for design ideas.
Great design source.......2007-03-30
This book offers excellent designs, if you're after an Asian aesthetic the way I am, and the CD-ROM allows you to size the designs on your computer. Very useful for the wearable art and etched jewelry we make!
Disappointing collection.......2006-12-03
Those of you who may have read that this collection has vector art files--beware. There are .eps files but they merely contain jpgs of the clipart. While the selection is OK, I found the artwork to be a little shabby. It seemed like they were scanned from something. Some types of designs that I were hoping would be in there, like kimono motifs, were not. Is it useful? Certainly. Disappointing? Definitely.
Useful Things.......2006-07-03
These designs are useful for the projects listed but they adapt well to other uses such as needlepiont, engraving and ever jewelry designs.I suggest buying this book and cd if you wish to add an oriental favor to your clip art and projects.
Great new designs to use.......2006-02-28
I will be using these ideas and designs for several different types of projects! Can't wait.

Customer Reviews:
Lovely.......2007-10-05
I've been looking for motifs to use in polymer and metal clays for jewelry, and this book has a stunning collection of faces. It also has several wonderful Hiroshigi's and Hokusai's (particularly and ocean wave I'm fond of). While I'm not sure that the designs will work out as transfers, the book is still enjoyable. I found several artists about whose work I was previously ignorant. Something new to contemplate.

Customer Reviews:
Crests Galore.......2007-04-11
I found this book and CD-ROM very helpful in my search for applique designs with a Japanese flavour, using family crests in a quilt. The files are available in a high resolution, which is great when enlarging the designs.
Book Description
Originally used to decorate kimonos and lacquered furniture, these unusually rhythmic and engrossing patterns — known as mon — combine stylized natural and geometric forms. 646 images, many colorized.
