The thinking's not fuzzy in these board books, but the animals certainly are. Sandra Boynton's familiar furry creatures introduce simple concepts in this bright collection of four books, replete with clever line drawings. In Horns and Toes and In Between, three horned monsters teach the parts of the body in rhyme: "...and we have a fuzzy TUMMY that we all like to pat / and a little BELLY BUTTON in the middle of that." The Going to Bed Book gets a Noah's Ark of animals organized for bed: "They hang their towels on the wall / and find pajamas, big and small." Opposites is just that: cute animals "high and low / fast and slow / heavy and light / day and night." In the rhyming reader But Not the Hippopotamus, a hippo finds himself on the outs as "a cat and two rats are trying on hats. / But not the hippopotamus. / A moose and a goose together have juice. / But not the hippopotamus." The Going to Bed book is my son's favorite of all time and all of the books' clever sing-song rhymes make even adult readers smile- like when they all go up to exercise after they've bathed and brushed their teeth.
Pick and Choose your Boyntons.......2007-09-03
Sadly, not only our toddler (18 mos) but we parents, as readers, were disappointed in this Boynton collection, Although the title of "Greatest Hits" implied that these books were among children's favorites. We have found this not to be true. While reading the books aloud they do not have the lyrical magic of other Boynton's like "Hippos Go Berserk," "Snuggle Puppy," "Barnyard Dance, " or "Moo, Baa, La La La!." Sandra Boynton has the gift of creating language and drawings that touch children's imaginations. These books aren't the best examples of that talent. Buy Boynton, but buy other books instead of her Greatest Hits, Vol. II.

I would still probably recomend someone to buy the book, but it's nothing special. Any of this information and more can be obtained on the internet from sites like 'www.duckcentral.com'. Many specific tips like putting pvc around your blind to keep beavers frow chewing on it. I hate when that happens. Anyway, buy the book, but don't expect much.

Not for beginners, but an EXCELENT resource........2007-04-06
This isn't a book for the beginner or a general text about the Mauser rifle. It is, however, a superior identification guide that is small enough to fit into a jacket pocket when heading out to look at a potential purchase.
The author manages to cram information about every single major type of Mauser rifle into this small book, including succinct but complete identifications of all the markings you are likely to find. The section detailing all of the various Waffenampts and inspectors marks and which factories they belonged to at different times has proven invaluable to me personally, allowing me to spot a couple of "all matching" guns at gunshows that were actually much less valuable "force matched" rifles.
It isn't a book for casually perusing pictures of these rifles or learning about the history of the gun. It is a collector's reference book and should be used as such. But if you own even one Mauser and want to identify what that mystery stamping means, this will do it, and if you continue to collect them this book will help you avoid many common scams and pitfalls.

Not for beginning collectors.......2003-03-19
This reviewer is new to the world of collecting military firearms and wanted to educate himself--especially regarding german mausers. Admittedly, this reviewer did not know the difference between a "byf" or a "dou" marking, or even where they might appear on the rifle. Unfortunately, this book is geared more towards experienced collectors, especially those who collect other than german mausers, and not novices. A picture (of which there are none) showing such basics as where the markings are located would have spoke a thousand words.

A fun, easy way to learn more about the Bible.......2007-01-09
In 1865, Gustave Dore illustrated an edition of the Bible with drawings that are popular to this day. This collection of Dore's 241 Bible plates from Dover Publications sells for a very reasonable price. I think some of Dore's illustrations are wonderful. Among my favorites are a portrait of Amos, Jesus and the woman of Samaria, and the arrival of the Good Samaritan at the inn.
One thing that makes Dore's illustrations engaging is the fact that he sometimes chose to illustrate stories that are not well known. Examples include the stoning of Achan (Joshua 7:12, 24, 25) and the Levite finding the corpse of the woman (Judges 19:26, 27.) I found a number of these illustrations so compelling and sad that I went to the Bible to learn the stories. If you wish to become familiar with lesser-known parts of the Bible, perusing Dore's illustrations is one way to motivate yourself.
I must add a word of caution. Some of Dore's black and white engravings are very graphic and unappealing to me. His rendition of David with Goliath's severed head, for instance, is one I would never share with a child. Nonetheless, if you look at Dore's illustrations, I think you'll find them thought provoking and well done.
A Blatant Alteration of the Dore's Original Work.......2006-08-02
This work is a blatant example of revisionism. The first 2 plates have been "doctored" to remove the human form of God from the creation and garden of Eden accounts. While Dore's work is beautiful, this book is not an accurate representation of it.

I bought this is for reference material, to see the classic imagery of the bible. The imagery is full of all the drama and suspense and gore that the old testament delivers..Amazing line work, fantasic detail and clever compositons. It's definitely an R rated verison and that's the way I think the Old Testament was meant to be, as a story. Buy it for its classical images that have been repeated again and again and buy it for its detailed engravings that will impress. It's timeless stuff.

Although the publisher claims to have used the best originals of the prints out there to make up this book the illustrations are too light. The Dover version is a much better option. I gave it 3 stars because if you have never seen the Dover book you'd think this one was pretty good but since both are easily available I recommend you pass on this one.
