The author, Edward M. Barrows, has done an outstanding job in walking the fine line between writing for the general reader and the professional in this field. As a reference, it is a "must read" for all.

This short book don't give much explanation on how to give the right aids or how to train your horse. But it is quite easy read and might wake up your desire to learn more. As inspiration boook rather than school book I think it is good.

The heart of classical equitation!.......2002-08-17

Should be required reading for all modern-day dressage riders and anyone who truly believes in achieving harmony with his or her horse! Not a specific "how to" book, but rather the core of the master Oliveira's philosophy of classical horsemanship succinctly and powerfully stated. His was a school of horsemanship that expected and achieved a level of lightness and collection rarely attained in today's competitive dressage horse. As Sylvia Loch said in her book (also highly recommended) Dressage: The Art of Classical Riding, Nuno Oliveira was " . . .a man who could bring magical steps out of the most ordinary horse, a man who rode like a king, so that his horses carried him like a king."

This book is written by probably the greatest horse master in the 20th century. A book that every horse lover, and especially dressage rider, must have. It is a pity that only one (I believe) of six books is translated into English.

Get the one with purple cover!!! .......2007-02-15

This is the excellent book, however, I haven't received the one with purple cover that's being advertised here, but the one with green cover. I believe this is the American edition of the same book. The paper is not of the same quality, nor is the cover itself, so get the British edition if you can. Same thing goes for the Advanced Grammar in Use. Some units were even skipped in the American edition of AGIU. Other than that, very useful book.

This book does not include cd or cassetes but it is very organized and has as its name says an advanced vocabulary(a good option for the CAE Examination)

Well, English is my second language. This book includes plenty of topics enough for english learner to further understand the usage of vocabularies in a much more down-to-earth level. However, some explanations are too basic for learning, you better re-check those meanings with a reliable dictionary.

A good source for enriching your vocabulary .......2007-07-19

I have previewed the contents of this book downloading a scanned copy online (fake ebook). Definitely, if you are seriously trying to study/learn English I wouldn't think twice of buying the genuine printed version. Who is familiar with Cambridge's "In Use" series will not regret paying us$30 to a book+cd-rom (the same price charged by an hour of private lesson).
The book is far to be a dictionary, it focus on the appropriate usage of words in circumstantial forms also the construction of a sophisticated lexicon.
If you feel stuck by your English vocabulary it is time to go further!
