I bought a copy of A Book Lover's Diary several years ago in Colonial Williamsburg. I recently bought a copy for my sister. Not only do I record all books I have purchased but list books I have heard about and would like to remember to read. I enjoy looking back at all that I have read.
Not what expected at all.......2006-08-22
I bought this book as a gift for a friend based on the great categories it has to offer for recording book information. I was so disappointed to find that the spaces allowed for writing are so small. Also, the book is hard to navigate. The hard cover and hard binding don't allow for anyone to write it in it (inflexible). I gave it as a gift still, but I had to apologize for what a cruddy book it was.

I purchased A Book Lover's Diary a few months back, and I am so glad I did. It is the perfect addition to my growing library!
A Book Lover's Diary is a small hardcover book that has lots of room for the various lists, that are essential to book collecting. Books you want, books you have read, favorite books, etc. It even has space to add if you have lent your books out and to whom so you can keep track of who is borrowing them. I think that is a great feature.
But, what I believe is the best feature is that is is small enough to put in my purse when I go out. I don't know how many times I have gone to the book store and forgotten what books I want to read, due to the fact that there are so many. With A Book Lover's Diary with me, I have it all down on paper! Which makes my book hunting that much more simple!
I would buy this book again in a heartbeat, and whole-heartedly recommend it for any book lovers out there!

Disappointment.......2007-01-23
This is a blurb-ridden substitute for the old version of Book Lover's Page-A-Day calendar. In the old days, 2004, you actually got summaries and critical analysis of the books reviewed. In this latest version you get nothing but superficial quotes from USA Today, People Magazine and Entertainment Weekly. The previous calendars gave you reasons to seek out the books they reviewed. The drivel in this year's calendar has created a negative reaction to both the books and authors. We miss the fun of starting the day with a new discovery.

The Book Lover's Calendar is more than a page-a-day. It introduces avid readers to authors and titles they might never come across in the bookstore or library. I pass the pages along to friends if I think the topic is one they are interested in. I tuck the pages in my purse for my next trip to the bookstore. I write my name on a page and hand it to the librarian at the local library. If the book isn't on their shelves, she can order it for me. The page has all the information she needs. I got this for my mom beacuse she was always forgetting which wines she liked. This journal was just what she needed. It has wine info in the front pages- the shapes of bottles, the different countries and other stuff. And then it has MANY pages for pasting lables and writing your notes on the wine.

I would say that, sure this is a good book to buy. We haven't used it yet, because it didn't come with a wine label remover, which is the only thing I would suggest changing. Make it a package deal with whatever the product is to remove labels. Have fun drinking your wine and filling up the book!

This journal is good for the home bound wine lover, it has a place to paste the wine label,(if you can get it off)but it is big. I like that you can choose to put weather it is red or white because red is favored in our household so the other journal's pages would have gone to waste. It has some usefull info inside too. I like it a lot, but it is not one you would take to a restaurant or tasting, it is just a lil too bulky for that.

Lowden on Byzantine MSS of the OT Prophets.......2000-04-25
Besides the 128 pages of text, the volume contains over 100 pages of very nice black and white (eight in color) facsimiles of the manuscripts discussed, the photos are on glossy paper and of excellent quality.
Lowden dispalys a fine acumen here in presenting these manuscripts to the reader. The main text focuses on about seven Illuminated Greek Prophet books. Additionally he comments upon and shows images of about 20 others.
This group of MSS, "Byzantine Illuminated Prophet Books" form a small but homogeneous group. None are dated, but all are a product of the Byzantine scriptoriums and scribes.
Lowden cogently discusses the relevant iconography of each MS, and reveals many interesting features. Lowden focuses upon the visual artwork much more so than he does upon the scripts. As a palaeographer, I do wish that he had spent more time with analysis of the scripts, and perhaps more "textual criticism" of the actual written contents.
This is a fine reference work displaying scribal and illuminator talents of the (circa) 10th century in or around the Byzantine empire, with a focus upon the art (illuminations and miniatures) aspects and relationships.
The volume is well made, sturdy and is smyth sewn. The type is clear and properly leaded for ease of reading.
It has an index, and a catalogue of the MSS (with ruling charts). It has good footnotes and fine bibliographic data. Recommended for study of: Byzantine Book Illumination, 10th century scribal practices, and for general information on the Biblical texts of this group of MSS. Lowden's penetrationg analyses are very educational and he is a good writer.
