Book Description
Thrilling action, an intuitive feeling for animal life, a sense of justice that often works itself out through violence: these are the qualities that made Jack London phenomenally popular in his own day and continue to make him, at home and abroad, one of the most widely read of all American writers. "The Call of the Wild," perhaps the best novel ever written about animals, traces a dog's education for survival in the ways of the wolfpack. "White Fang," in which a wolf-dog becomes domesticated out of love for a man, is an unforgettable portrayal of a world of "hunting and being hunted, eating and being eaten, all in blindness and confusion." In "The Sea-Wolf," the primitive takes human form in the ruthless, indomitable Wolf Larsen, captain of a crew of outcasts on the lawless Alaskan seas. Set in the Klondike, California, Mexico, and the South Seas, the short stories collected here--many for the first time--show London as one of the great American storytellers.

An American Master..........2007-06-07
You can't lump too many people into the same sphere with London...Twain, Poe, and Lovecraft are a few that spring to mind. He's an American Titan, and he gets the fawning treatment you'd expect from the Library of America in this exemplary, extraordinary, green-registered book.
Call of the Wild is a page-turning yarn about a dog that becomes a wolf. It's listed on the MLA 100, but any competent kid of ten could tackle it...and enjoy it.
White Fang is a canine bildungsroman that inverts the plot of Call of the Wild, with the wolf becoming a dog. Also a page-turner, also something a kid would read without having to be coerced, and possessed of a truly classic scene where White Fang fights a bulldog.
The Klondike Short Stories are all superb--some people think London's metier was the short story rather than the novel--with Batard being a personal favorite.
The Sea-Wolf is a work of genius...until it all comes crashing down with the introduction of Maud Brewster, and the escape to Endeavour Island. What had heretofore been a truly transcendent work of art transmogrifies into a clunky, melodramatic, and tedious chore, where London's love of sailing jargon threatens to overwhelm the reader.
The Selected Short Stories show that London wasn't just a Yukon guy...he had some other arrows in his quiver. A few stories demonstrate his--at the time--devout socialism, which lasted up until he himself got rich. The Apostate is the weakest of these, but The Strength of the Strong is a pretty good allegory for fin-de-siecle capitalism, with all its gory excesses. London also writes convincingly about such diverse topics as boxing, South Sea cannibals, and straight-up science fiction.
This book of books is excellent, and any American who fancies himself a lover of literature would be remiss in not reading it.
Amazing on multiple levels!.......2007-02-24
Novels and Stories was the first of a two volume set that I scored for cheap on ebay a few years ago. The second, Novels and Social writings concentrates on his political/social novels and essays while this one is comprised of his Alaskan and sea bearing adventure stories.
This book weighs in at over 1000 pages and includes three GREAT novels in Call of the Wild, The Sea Wolf and White Fang as well as multitudes of his short stories.
I can't say enough about how much I love Londons writings and how much admiration I have for him as a man as well. I've read Call of the Wild about every two years or so since the first time I read it as a child and I get more out of it every time I re-read it. His adventure stories on one level are just great red blooded adventure stories that anyone who has any heart or spirit would enjoy and there is a deeper level to London as well. His stories are highly spiritual if you are able to look at them on another level. Although thats something that you have to "feel" from within I suppose.
Call of the Wild.......2005-05-17
This book was really good, but I believe that White Fang was better. Many settings took place, but I will start with the main ones. The first setting in this book was Judge Millers Mansion. The second is the dog breakers place, in which Buck (the main character, a dog,) learns the "law of Club and Fang." The third place is where Buck learns the method of husky fighting, and because the other dog died, he lived a long and well-lived life. The first major event in this book is when a person steals Buck from Judge Miller, and he is starved and strangled and is thrown in a shed to wait for a train to the dog breaker. There, he is introduced to the primitive law of club and fang. After that, he, and a Newfoundland, are taken to Alaska. There, he is introduced to the method of Husky Fighting, and then is put into the harness, and is put to work on the mushing sled. The next major event is when Buck is taken of his first mushing trip in the wild. There he learns how to keep warm in the harsh winters by digging into the snow and having your body heat heat up the space. The next area is when Buck and Spitz finally fight to the death, and Buck takes the position of lead dog on the mushing track. Finally, the last major setting is when Buck finaly turns to the wild, and he attacks the YeeHats with a vengance, because they had killed his LOVED master. The conflict in this book is Buck is a spoilled rotten dog, until he reaches the North and finds that he has wild ancestors. They eventually take over Buck and he lives with the wild.
Reality or Fantasy... Which one is it?.......2003-05-18
After reading this book for school, (not that I was forced to) I gave it a 4/5 star rating. It was excellent when it came to the setting of the story. Even though it is a very short, it crams alot of suspensfull and interesting moments into 100 some odd pages. This book is quite good and page turning. I highly recommend it to readers who like a mix of reality and fantasy in one. Masterful piece of writing.
THE GREATES.......2002-09-17
Jack London was one of the greatest American writers. I love everything he wrote and I wish I could write as well as he did.
Product Description
Classic tales of wolves in the wild.
Book Description
Packaged together for the first time, Call of the Wolf contains two of USA Today bestselling author Susan Krinard's sexiest supernatural novels.
In Secret of the Wolf, hypnotist Johanna Schell takes Quentin Foster under her care to discover if his claim to werewolf blood is just a delusion. But she is horrified to learn that, under hypnosis, this tender, thoughtful man becomes violent, vengeful, and evil. Now, to save him, she has no choice but to trust him, and even love him.
In To Catch a Wolf, wheelchair-bound Athena Munroe and convicted murderer Morgan Holt live on the fringes of both humanity and werewolf society. But their irresistible attraction to each other threatens to expose their true natures-and free their hearts.

LOVED IT ! ! It is a keep in my book........2007-09-02
First let me say I love Carol finch as a writer. She brings laughter, romance, love and tears into her stories.
Call Of The Wolf is about a young girl (Tara) that has been mistreated all her young life and is also an orphaned. She takes 5 orphaned children into her care to start a new life for them away from pain and misery they have all incured in there young lives. John Wolf (White Wolf)is a lawman who gets shot by his half Indian brother. He is found by Tara and nursed back from the dead. John made a promise to his adopted Indian father to bring his Indian half brother back to the reservatoin and to help the Apache Nation servive the on slaught of the white man on their land.
The orphaned Children in this story are wonderful and courageous. A true family united in love and family vaules. I a specially loved 5 year old Flora, she is an lovable child who worms her way into John's heart right from the start and the way she says John's name (Zohn Whoof) is a riot.
I recommend this book to anyone with a heart and without one.
I also would like to know if there is any sequels out there of the chilren? If not there should be.
This ones a keeper!

The Call of the Wild.......2000-03-30
By Jack London The story I read is called The Call of the Wild. The story is about a dog named Buck who was stolen from his owner (Judge Miller) and sold to people in the north. He was used as a sled dog and he was beaten and abused by many people. He had to watch his friends be beaten to death because they would not follow orders. Indians kill his friends. Buck found other friends and lived in the wild. I liked the book and you should check it out.
Very Sad, but happy and suspensful.......1999-10-21
I loved the book and reccomend it to everyone. it was sad because Buck was stolen and not able to enter the 'call of the wild'. I enjoyed it because it was emotional and i enjoy those kind of books. Thank You Jack London(even though he's dead) for writting such a wonderful book.

A Don't Miss!!!.......2004-04-07
First story so beautiful and poignant, it brought tears to my eyes. London displays a true understanding of the deeper reaches of nature. A remarkably real parable of the civilized dog brought back to his wild roots. "White Fang", longer and wildly overwritten, is nevertheless deeply affecting also. Romantic, sentimental, and perhaps somewhat unrealistic. Each story was wonderful and very individual, somewhat amazing considering there are 40 of them. "The Sea Wolf" was the best of all, I thought. The character of Wolf Larsen was just totally intriguing. And I have never forgotten (and will probably carry with me to my grave) a line from that book, uttered by Larsen. To paraphase - The most abundant thing on this planet is not air, or water or land. They are all perishable, or can be ruined or consumed in some way or another. It is life, life itself, that is everywhere. Wolf Larsen was one of the most unforgettable characters in fiction that I have ever run across. An amoral man to the nth degree.
Wonderfully written outdoor adventure stories.......1999-05-27
If you like the movies you will love these stories. Combines page turning reading with a poetic quality that only Jack London can develop.
Better than the Call of the Wild!!.......1997-11-28
Loved White Fang so much I have gone on and read everything this man ever wrote. If you love the outdoors, and can live without T.V. a few nights then get this one. You will not regret the money well spent.

A good place to start.......2007-01-10
This is a great book for beginners and there are plenty of photos to assist the reader together with step by step instructions. On the downside, as noted in other reviews, the technologies covered seem a little bit dated and seem to have a bias toward the 1990s or earlier, for example my headset/stem are not covered. Some of the page layouts are a bit jumbled in places, but on the whole it is easy follow.
Pretty good book overall on medium-level mechanics.......2006-08-26
Clearly, HAYNES having published 1,000's of home-repair
automobile mechanics on 100's of different model cars,
it was time for them to make some extra cash, and do a book
on bicycle repair, too! Having seen the automobile books, they
do come in handy for cars built back in the 80's and some in
the 90's, but increasingly, home repair has become next to
impossible as cars become electronic gadgets and computerized
in all aspects, and I'm not referring to remote car starters,
or even GPS systems or boomerang anti-theft tracking devices,
either.
Specifically, in regards to this book, it has a lot of glossy
color photos, but only average desktop publishing skills in
arranging text, and photos. It's practical, for sure, and is not
introductory, either.
Part of this book, reminds me of PARK TOOL's school manual they
give out after their quick weekend-course on bicycle
maintenance, in the sense that dozens of different specialized
tools are seen in the pictures, that the home mechanic will not
have, obviously, and considering they're specialized tools, with
low sales volume, are probably very costly to acquire from PARK
themselves, or through your LBS.
The final conclusion on this book, is that it's definitely worth
the price, if you're interested at all, in maintaining a bike,
doing work on it, and repairs. I'm not referring to high-end
bikes, MTB's or road costing $1000's of dollars, but your low-
end, mass-marketed and sold bikes costing $200, for example.
It has walk-thru's, color pictures, diagrams, explanations,
lists tools you need to do the work to repair so-and-so
situation, is sturdy, and almost 200 pages.
great for beginners.......2006-01-30
This is a great bike maintenace book for beginners. The photos and directions are very easy to follow. The techniques they describe are not fancy and do not require expensive tools. For more complex jobs, they tell you to visit your bike shop, which is probably what a beginner should be doing. Intermediate-to-advanced home mechanics should look at the Zinn or Park books instead.
The Best Bicycle Repair Book Out There.......2004-10-12
This book is wonderful. There isn't really any repair that you can't fix as long as you have the right tools AND THIS BOOK!
Exceptional.......2004-04-24
Fantastic manual jam packed with step-by-step colour photographs. The layout is very well thought out and logical that it makes finding what you need as simple as possible. I highly recommend this book for anyone who owns and cares about maintaining their bike in top condition.
Book Description
This new edition of the standard work The Englishman's Hebrew Concordance of the Old Testament is an improved and corrected edition that features a new, larger format. Now coded to Strong's, it is invaluable in Bible study for those who do not know Hebrew. A new index of out-of-sequence Strong's numbers allows the reader to quickly and easily locate any word by its Strong's number. The Hebrew and English indexes have been retained.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Reference book.......2006-02-25
Top notch. Well worth the price. I'm a pastor and I find it an invaluable resource!
one of the most comprehensive concordances out there.......2002-12-10
For the serious Bible student, this book is an invaluable resource. It is so comprehensive that you probably wouldn't need any other concordances.
This book has a few imperfections, though, viz.:
1. the print is relatively small. This is a small problem, though, for many people who can read small print. Not a problem for me.
2. since each entry relies on Strong's numbering, you will need a copy of Strong's concordance, assuming you are like most of us without a prior knowledge of Hebrews. This, too may not be a bad idea; I have Strong's. However, it would have been better to provide a list of Strong's entries in a couple of pages.
But for the above, the book deserves five stars. Having said all this, I would still heartily recommend Wigram's Concordance.
Disappointing.......2001-02-11
I'm disappointed with both of Wigram's concordances -- this Hebrew one and his Greek one. I guess I should have bought Kohlenberger's concordance (smile). The print quality is poor.
Perhaps the most useful book the Hebrew student will buy.......2000-04-02
This book lists every word in the Hebrew Bible alphabetically, giving every instance of the word's use-with a short quotation from the King James Version- in the bible. It is indispensible for exegesis or etymological study. Even if the reader does not know Hebrew, every English word used in the King James Bible is listed in the back of the book with the page number on which the corresponding Hebrew word can be found in the body of the book. Also, this book is about 1/3 the price of similar concordances.
