Bought this on a whim for my 4 1/2 year old son. He loves it! There are so many pop-up dinousaurs. The verbiage is a little too scientific for his age group, but he loves hearing it anyhow. We like to read the section on meat-eaters over and over again. It's fun to look at, and is very educational. I learned a thing or two about dinosaurs myself.

This book was absolutely amazing. The detail of each and every dinosaur was just phenomenal. I purchased several for Christmas presents. My 5yo grandson is soo crazy for anything dinosaur. I know it will make a big impression on him if no one else. Recommend child shoukld use this book with some adult supervision due to the intricate popups. The price was good too.

My little boy is 10 months now, and ever since he got this book (when he was 6 months) he loves it. I mean L-O-V-E-S I-T !!! As soon as I pull it out he shakes with excitement. He LOVES flipping the easter eggs to discover the bugs underneath, and the last page is especially adorable, with all the bugs in a single easter basket. What an awesome concept. I have had to make some repairs with tape because it is hard to teach a 10 month old to be gentle ! ha ha. But it is SO worth it. This book is HIGHLY recommended even for little babies.

Different colored eggs on each page lift up to reveal the bugs in different costumes but the last page made me gasp as a beautiful Easter basket pops up by itself.Little bugs dangle from the handleof the basket filled with more delightful bugs. the child is then asked how many bugs he or she`found which encourages more careful observation of each page. This book is a real winner and a great bargain for the low price for a new book. Buy it now for next EAster because you will love it as much as your child. A three year old child who loves and respects books can handle this one alone but for the younger child, put it up to be read by an older child or adult. You don't find bargains like this one very often.

We received this book as a gift and both my 15 month old and four and a half year old loved it. It has very colorful pop outs,with a nice surprise at the end. The easter bunny must get this one.

Old-fashioned fun! This is a great one -- we read it aloud and we almost always are on the hook for "one more chapter" -- it has 20 chapters, so the fun keeps going. Ridiculous situations abound when a family adopts one penguin, then another... it's very fun and funny -- we read it often.

I love how my kids mimic the penguins -- "Ork" "Gook" "Awk" -- it gives me great joy when my kids connect to books.

For those of you who revolve around action, adventure, humor, drama, horror, fantasy, the future, and woe, then this is defenitly not the book for you.Mr. Poppers Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater expressess how a man is given a penguin from the Antarctic, and how he ends up having eleven more and teaches them how to perform tricks to make money for his family. To start Captain Drake- an antarctic explorer-sends Mr. Popper a penguin, Captain Cook. They build an icebox for him and he tidies up their house. After about a monthe or so, Captain Cook starts to get lonely, so Mr. Popper gets him another penguin from acquarium named Greta, and they have ten more penguins! They named the penguins: Columbus, Victoria, Nelson, Jenny, Magellen, Adelina, Scott, Isabella, Ferdinand, and Louisa. Since Mr. Popper is low on money, he trains the penguins to do tricks and they perform all across the country. They go from Boston, to Seattle, to New York as Poppers Performing Penguins. You just have to read this book, and believe me, you will never have enjoyed closing a book this much.

My 8-year-old daughter and I are currently reading this old book together. It was given to her as a gift last year and we are just now getting around to reading it. She has been bugging me constantly to sit down and read more (we are only about half way through). While she could easily read this book by herself we are having a wonderful time reading this charming story together. We can't wait to see what silly thing will happen next. Even though this book was published long ago, it is still a great story that is great fun.

This pop-up is the perfect size for me to use as a read-aloud in library story-times. The illustrations are very colorful and engaging, the pop-ups really stand out. There is no plot, it's just a frog telling what he eats and asking other animals what they eat, but kids enjoy the comical ending (it helps if you do voices when you read). This book is somewhat repetitive and is not very long, so it's really best for younger children, ages 3-5, but my seven-year-old still enjoys it.

This is a great pop-up book that appeals to toddlers through to preschoolers. It does not have a lot of words, but it is funny and engaging. The pop up pictures are fun to look at and the pages in my hardcover version are a light cardboard making it nice and sturdy.
You won't be dissapointed.

We have about seven of his pop-up books and they are all great. If you have not bought one of his books, you will be amazed. It is definitely an art form. I have a 5 year old and he loves these books (he just got this one for his birthday). The incredicle pop-ups really make reading fun and add another dimension to these storybooks. I will contine to coolect them as they make new ones. The price is worth it and you should probably buy it here because I saw one of his books in Target for about 10 dollars more than on Amazon.

Now we own 4 of David Carter's books, and we LOVE them all, but I think this is our favorite. Almost every night my 1 1/2 year old son and 3 1/2 year old daugher love to pile in the Laz-E-Boy for me to read this book. They never tire of it, and it is so cute! It's got jumping bed bugs jumping on the bed, giggling bathtime bugs in a bathtub, a tiny bug-lullaby book within this book that they love for me to sing (and this tiny book also has pop-ups itself which is so neat), a bug where you turn the dial showing the thoughts in his head as it gets more and more sleepy till it's finally asleep, a bug angel that is a big pop-up, and a star behind a curtain that my kids love me making it glow (against the lightbulb for a second, turn the light off, and the bug-star glows in the dark). It's very fun!

Unlike my firstborn, my 1 1/2 year old is unfortunately not a book lover, and these are some of the only books he'll sit still for and actually takes a great interest in them. So thank goodness for these books!

My son absolutely loves David A. Carter books!! I get him one for every occassion. Jingle Bugs is his favorite. I highly recommend any David A. Carter book for your young children!! They have wonderful illustrations, you can move the bugs and some even come out of the book. These books just make you smile! I'm so glad I found them.

The fantasy-oriented D&D types among us will revel in this boldly illustrated pop-up book... The dragons literally leap out at you, all tooth, claw and leathery, scaly skin. There are abbreviated versions of several famous dragon stories -- St. George, Maud & The Wyvern, The Sea King's Daughter, Beowulf, etc. -- and flashy artwork to match. The pop-up elements are relatively simple, which also means they are more durable than some of the more clever, complicated other books. If you're a dragon fan, you'll dig this book... a lot!

This is truly a wonderful adventure for adults and children. I did a whole series of reading on castles, knights, kings,queens,...a month of "Royal Reading"! I ended with "Dragons: A Pop-Up Book",and each page brought "ooo's and ahh's" from the class, and LOTS of discussion at the end of the book.This book paved the way to some very creative writing from students that normally had very little to say. I saw this book shop worn in a book store and found it in mint condition on Amazon where I purchased it for my son who is 4 yrs old. He really enjoys this book and wants to know about everything on the page. A really neat book that should be put back in print again. This is an incredibly informative book. My 5 year old son loves it so much that we are ordering it again. Our first one is very dog-eared. The illustrations are superb and the pop-ups really bring the world of insects up close and make it easy to understand. We have spent many wonderful hours reading this book together and, as a result, my son now knows a great deal about bugs and their habits. It is a very hands on book and shows children amazing facts. The cricket noise, scratch and sniff stink bug page, and the huge pop-up moth are our favorites. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a child who is interested in learning about bugs. It is sure to bring them many happy memories.
