Customer Reviews:
It's just OK.......2005-10-12
Hey, this book is not bad. You get a list of the 100 best ski resorts of the world...mmm...isn't that the title of the book? Good title. The information is very concise. But something is wrong. Something is terribly wrong with a book like this. Ah, yes...the information is easily outdated...nothing you can't get from a web site which has more updated information. I can't think of a good reason to buy this book because it is in black and white so you can't exactly enjoy the photography which there is a terribly "lack of" in the book. You might want to save your money on this one. I did buy it, for your information, but I bought it used for pennies...and I still feel ripped off. Arrgg...

Book Description
When Ford wanted to add some spice to its new Mustang pony car in the mid-1960s, it turned to talented, colorful, and opinionated Texan Carroll Shelby, who was then building high-performance racing sports cars (Cobras) using a British body and a Ford engine. The resulting Shelby Mustangs proved to be the definitive performance Mustangs of the muscle-car era. Ford has recently released a new Mustang, the first truly all-new Mustang since 1979, returning the model to the spotlight. The most-talked-about and anticipated version of the new Mustang is the Shelby Cobra GT500, which Ford will bring to market in 2006. Shelby himself was involved in the development of what will be the most powerful factory-produced Mustang ever. This rich new history from award-winning authors Randy Leffingwell and David Newhardt traces the Shelby Mustang story from the early Shelby America cars built in a converted airplane hangar in Southern California to the 2006 version of the new Mustang.
Customer Reviews:
Very good book for Shelby fans.......2006-05-05
This book contains interesting and sometimes unique information regarding the early Cobra and Shelby Mustangs. The quality of the pictures is excellent but many are taken from a long distance away and reveal little detail of the drivetrain and/or interior of the various cars. That said, the book is still well worth the read for the true Shelby fan.
Amazing Photography.......2006-02-15
This is a book for true Shelby Mustang fanatics.
It is extremely comprehensive in its' timeline from conception of the first Shelby, to the latest additions to the Mustang family.
Once again, Mr. Leffingwell has captured the essence of automotive history.
A TRULY ENJOYABLE BOOK.......2005-12-08
I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's truly a book for Shelby loving folk. I have shown it to friends and family and they can't put it down. They seem mesmerized by the photographs.
I like that it follows Carroll Shelby and his car building from the beginning, up to the soon to be released 2007 GT500. The many quotes from those involved, coupled with the great story telling, has given me a good sense of how these cars came about.
The gorgeous photography does a great job of covering these cars in phenomenal detail. I enjoy seeing the one-of-a-kind cars and classics in loving detail with great settings, lighting and color. It's a feast for the eyes.
Great history, great photos!.......2005-11-30
This book really captures the spirit of Carroll Shelby, his business, and his cars. The photos of everything from the early British racers to the new Shelby Mustangs are really shot beautifully...from interesting angles and perspectives, great lighting, great color.
The text is superb. If you've read Leffingwell's Mustang: Forty Years and Corvette: Fifty Years gift books, you know he has a knack for pinning down quotes from the people involved in a car's development, and everything from corporate memos and meeting minutes shed light on each vehicle's development and the obstacles overcome.
Carroll Shelby is one of the real characters of postwar American engineering. And the Shelby Mustangs are simply classic.
Really, pick up this book if you're a Mustang lover. I guarantee there's something new to discover.
Shelby Mustangs - they would have deserved better.......2005-11-18
Eagerly awaited - terribly disappointed when received! this is my short summary on this book!
The only positive thing about the book is the Amazon-price!
The text deals with Shelby's history, and that is quite acceptable for this kind of publication - but the pictures are a waste!. However, a book like this one should be all about pictures, I would guess.
David Newhard could have done better than taking about every second picture from the frog's (or dog's) view, or late in the afternoon with harsh contrast and mile long shadows, everything bathed in a yellowish light (didn't know there was a "wimbledon yellow" option in 1965!)
Not a single good shot of a cockpit interior or engine bay - instead superfluous details spread like a puzzle over the pages.
that brings me to the page layout - seems they tried to imitate current magazine layouts where everything looks busy and confusing with overlapping pictures. Most pictures are so small that one can barely recognize details that would identify different models - I have downloaded better quality pictures from the internet! Some shots have such a terrible contrast, that I question the quality of film or camera used. Several shots made me question whethere this was a book about the American West, showing large empy spaces with infinite skies, featuring minuscule cars at great distances..
With the jewels the authors had at their disposal - it is a shame what resulted, or at least what made it into this book.
The preceding publication (same authors)- 40 Years of Mustang actually has better Shelby shots than this dedicated volume!
Being a publication on Shelby Mustangs, I will keep the book in my library, but I will only use it to show people a bad example of a motoring book.
Another question: why did the publisher not try and make this book the same size than the 40-Years book - at least the two would fit together on the bookshelf...
Carroll Shelby and his cars would have deserved better!
All in all terribly disappointing - too bad I cannot rate less than one star.
Product Description
The #1 Reference on the Ford 428 Cobra Jet! The 1969 Mustang Cobra Jet Engine Reference Manual provides the information needed to restore these engines to the thoroughbred level and beyond and is a great reference for restoration at any level. An excellent source of information for all cars equipped with 428 Cobra Jets, it is a valuable reference for any sixties vintage FE motor. The manual includes specific details about original assembly line techniques and markings, production variations, known original bolt surface finishes and head markings, and differences between original and reproduction parts. By Joe Sikora (MCA #1170), owner/ restorer of many of these cars, including a thoroughbred award winning SCJ Mach 1. A "must have" for the garage and swap meets. 40 pages on heavy bond paper.
Book Description
In recent years, interest in the cars created by Shelby-American has increased dramatically. Good Shelbys are getting harder to find each year, and their values continue to rise dramatically. A.C. Cobras--with just over 1,000 made--are becoming impossible to find. The result is that clones have appeared of each and there is intense competition among replica owners to see whose replica will end up being most faithful to the originals. The book shows not only the originals, but also shows in detail the creativity shown by replica Shelby and Cobra owners in modifying their cars in an attempt to capture the spirit of the originals. Not left out are the replica Cobras and Shelbys sold by Shelby himself. Any enthusiast who reads this book can't help but be infused with the spirit and enthusiasm that pervaded the Shelby-American plant from '62 to '67--their five year vault from relative obscurity to fame and glory that persists 40 years later. Ford's new '07 Shelby Mustang GT500--developed with Carroll Shelby back on board as consultant--is also covered.
Book Description
A sensational history of the mighty Shelby Mustangs, from the raw 65s to the muscular 70s. All the inside details of development, production and special features - plus over 70 color shots of the best Shelby Mustangs around. Street and strip, stock and high-performance, the Hertz cars, and more. The complete history of the Shelby Mustangs by the editor of Mustang Monthly.
Customer Reviews:
Still the Best !.......2005-12-22
After reviewing my library on Shelby Mustangs, where I rated newer publications rather badly (see "Racer for the Street"), I believe I have to issue a late compliment to Tom Corcoran, as I may state with considerable confidence that this is (as of today) still the best book I have on the subject- that is: for short and concise history of the making of the Shelby Mustangs, the details and overall specs for each model year, listing chronologically the years 1965 to 69/70. Compared to newer publications, the pictures are still outstanding, being crystal clear, showing in crisp detail every important feature (engine bays, cockpits) besides featuring quite a good coverage of the most important of all Shelby Mustangs, the GT-350R-model.
This is still after all the years my reference volume for Shelby Mustang recognition, even though it is not exhaustive on the subject.
This book is unbeateable for quality in general, and price/quality relation in particular!
-This book is my preferred travel companion on most of my vacation and business trips!
Highly recommended to anyone interested in Shelby Mustang !
Shelby Mustang - Great Book!.......2005-08-16
The book is probably the best I've seen so far that concentrates solely on the Shelby Mustangs from the 60's. Book discusses specific changes to each car from year to year. Good pictures, provides great detail.
GT 350R Review.......2005-07-22
The book does a very good job of accurately describing the early history of the Shelby Mustang!!!
A great book on Shelby Mustangs........2004-08-03
If you're into Shelby mustangs then this book will interest you.A historical look through the years with good photographs do this book justice. Not a comprehensive book on these Mustangs.Owner's/would be owner's and enthusiasts will enjoy this book.Good value.Worth adding it to your collection.
Generally infomative, good for beginners........1998-04-19
Pictoral history and year by year overview of Shelby Mustang.
Lack of specific information conerning engines.
Hits the well known points that have been told before.
Breaks no new ground.
Excellent photos.
Book Description
Following the successful AC Cobras, Shelby was approached by Ford to develop a hot version of its new Mustang. For 1965 he developed the legendary GT350 and its lightweight racing derivative, the GT350R. In 1967 the GT350 was supplemented by the GT500 with a 428ci V8. After this the stock Mustang began to have more performance even though Ford made the cars more comfortable and heavier. New safety and exhaust emissions regulations in 1968 blunted their performance. Despite Cobra badging and the new King of the Road designation for the GT500KR, power and performance were down. At the end of 1967 production was transferred to Michigan. Production stopped in 1970 after only 10,825 Shelby Mustangs of all years had been built. This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, specification and technical data, model introductions, buying a used car, driver's views.

Mustangology.......2004-08-27
I remember reading about the release of the Ford Mustang in various magazines at the time and being absolutely amazed at how the Americans went off their brains for a reskinned and tarted up Falcon! It defied logic to me.
Then a Texas chicken farmer came along and stuffed ever-larger V8 engines under the hood giving them stunning performance. Ford even went racing and rallying with them and enjoyed some success.
This book is choc-a-bloc full of articles about Carroll Shelby and the magic he wove with the Mustang in various guises, in particular the GT350 that many people say was the best muscle car ever made. They could be right.
Besides the many road tests of the GT350 and GT500 culled from magazines from all over the world, there are some really fine articles on the history of these cars. For exxample, the comparison between the 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500R and the Dodge Charger R/T--the two protagonists in the vintage Steve McQueen movie Bullitt.
Near the end of the book is a most informative article on how to recognise the various Shelby Mustangs from the period together with prices, dimensions, serisal numbers and Shelby-unique parts. Great stuff.
For lovers of American high performance cars who want all their information in one place, this book is the best value of them all.
There's 216 pages--20 in colur--here, all of it an interesting read.

Modelling and Sculpting the Human Figure
ASIN: 0195052064 |
Book Description
The power of the image of the nude--the expressivity of the flesh--has inspired artists from the beginning. An understanding of human form is essential for artists to be able to express themselves with the figure. Anatomy makes the figure. Human Anatomy for Artists: The Elements of Form is the definitive analytical work on the anatomy of the human figure. No longer will working artists have to search high and low to find the information they need. In this, the most up-to-date and fully illustrated guide available, Eliot Goldfinger--sculptor, illustrator, scientific model-maker, and lecturer on anatomy--presents a single, all-inclusive reference to human form, capturing everything artists need in one convenient volume. Five years in the making, and featuring hundreds of photos and illustrations, this guide offers more views of each bone and muscle than any other book ever published: every structure that creates or influences surface form is individually illustrated in clear, carefully lit photographs and meticulous drawings. Informed by the detailed study of both live models and cadavers, it includes numerous unique presentations of surface structures--such as fat pads, veins, and genitalia--and of some muscles never before photographed. In addition, numerous cross sections, made with reference to CT scans, magnetic resonance imaging, and cut cadavers, trace the forms of all body regions and individual muscles. Information on each structure is placed on facing pages for ease of reference, and the attractive two-color format uses red ink to direct readers rapidly to important points and areas. Finally, an invaluable chapter on the artistic development of basic forms shows in a series of sculptures the evolution of the figure, head, and hands from basic axes and volumes to more complex organic shapes. This feature helps place the details of anatomy within the overall context of the figure. Certain to become the standard reference in the field, Human Anatomy for Artists will be indispensable to artists and art students, as well as art historians. It will also be a useful aid for physical and dance therapists, athletes and their trainers, bodybuilders, and anyone concerned with the external form of the human body. With the renewed interest in figurative art today, this will be an especially welcome volume.

Human Anatomy for Artists: The Elements of Form.......2007-10-18
Excellent book, quick delivery at a competitive price. Excellent value. I'll use the book for years to come.
Great guide with one flaw.......2007-07-11
I had this book recommended to me by a friend years ago when we were all trying to get into the comic book industry. I bought it and loved it. You can learn anything you want to know about how the musculature and skeleton are put together and how they work. Each different part of the anatomy is given almost too much attention. Each angle is given a photo of the body part, and drawings of the arm with muscles or just the skeleton.
The biggest problem is there isn't too much tying the parts together. You may get a very good idea how the arm works, where the muscles put to and from, how the skeleton moves when you move your arm, but you won't get much information on how the arm connects and moves with the rest of the body. Your aren't a collection of individual parts (2 arms, 2 legs, etc) but one unified body and all your parts move together. You need a good concept of that before this book will be used to its utmost.
A little heavy on the text, but a very thorough anatomy book........2007-07-03
This book covers from the skeletal system to muscles, from head to toe, very thoroughly. Pictures are nice and clear. All important muscles feature full explanation on its origin, insert, function etc in text, and frontal and side view as well as in context of the whole muscle group along with a photograph of the real body part flexing with the related muscles. I find this book a little heavy a the text part, but images and photographs make up for it and make this book the most complete, and thorough anatomy book.
Last anatomy book you'll ever buy.......2007-06-26
This book is the best anatomy book I have come upon. I purchased every book I could find on this subject until I found this one. I am a sculptor and painter so this book provides everything I need to understand all the surface structure of the human body. It explains origin and insertion of each muscle and their function. (important to know when deciding in a pose which muscles would be flexed and which would be relaxed) There are cross-section drawings of the muscles so that you can see the size comparison of muscles around them. There are photographs of the muscles flexed using a thin model, the surface can be distinguished. I have taught Artistic Anatomy and this is a the cherished book of many of my students.
SUPERB ANATOMY BOOK.......2007-05-20
This book is exactly what I was looking for in an anatomy reference book. The cross-sectional drawings are great to help visualize the muscle forms in different positions. Not only does it deliver on accuracy of the muscles but it also depicts how the muscles are placed on the human skeleton from different angles, this helps me to understand the "wedging" of the muscles. I've seen this same title in other book stores for the retail price and I must say AMAZON has a great price for this book.
