Customer Reviews:
Interesting read but a bit overly technical.......2004-09-20
The good: The principles in this book are sound, and much of the instruction is common in many other books that I have read on the subject of training a dog to track. The authors are very knowledgable and seem to present the material in a structured and logical fashion. I believe those interested in tracking titles will enjoy this much more than those of us who are intraested in search and rescue.
The bad: If the authors were to write a book on how to drive a car, they would probaby devote the first 4 chapters on how to build a vehicle from the groung up. My point is while the sections about scent theory are mildly interesting, I think they are a bit overblown and unnecessary. A much simpler discussion would have piqued the interest of the reader.
Not a book worth consideration.......2004-07-18
I WOULD NOT recommend this book to serious trainers wanting to learn more about tracking. The main idea is very blurry and hard to grasp. THe author gives theories and not facts and not very good training for tracking dog. The author has confused the ideal of tracking and air scenting. Even though it says "S&R", this book has a poor approach to it. This book was published in 1982, so much has changed since now in tracking. I truly think this author wanted to make a book more than educate people about tracking.
Very tracking based.......2001-03-07
I think for the overall comment on this book is " It is VERY tracking based". If you are getting it to help you in search and rescue you won't get what you think you are buying (I don't think). If you are getting it for tracking it will probably be your "bible". I really enjoyed the scent theory in the begining of the book.
One of the best sources of information on canine olfaction........1998-11-23
The first section of this book deals with scent theory and the canine gift of olfaction from a physical and anatomical examination of the dog. This is one of the best references to be found anywhere. The tracking portion of the book is a little weaker, but overall an excellent book!
Book Description
For intermediate and advanced students, seizing techniques applied in real combat scenarios.

A must.......2007-03-11
Yang Jwing-Ming is definitely amongst the leading authors and indeed authorities on the subject of martial arts in the west. With this particular volume he has made one of the best guides to the subject of qin na. The pictures are all good and the explanations very clear. There is an abundance of techniques covered. Well enough to satisfy even the most demanding of students. The sheer scope of techniques makes this book a perfect reference guide for students and teachers alike.
I agree with another reviewer who suggested that a background in grapling/locking arts will be beneficial in learning from this book.
Together with "Analysis of Shaolin Chin Na" also by Yang Jwing Ming and "Practical Chin Na" by Zhao Da Yuan "Comprehensive Applications of Shaolin Chin Na" is all you'll ever need in the form of books on qin na.
Highly recommendable
Amazing Book.......2006-01-10
This is an amazing book. It really has alot of techniques you can
use for "take downs" or some sort disarming or disabling techniques. I Love it, especially since I got the Dr Yangs DVD set on Shaolin Chin Na and useing these together really gives you a better understanding of the art. Just a side note, the DVD quality, production level, direction, its the best martial arts instructional video I have ever seen.
Advanced Knowledge For Grapplers.......2004-11-17
US martial artists won't find much of the material in this book elsewhere. Those studying advanced judo, jujitsu or other grappling arts will find techniques that enhance basic techniques already in use. I found the sections on attacking tendons especially well done. No surprise that successful application requires significant strength in the fingers and wrists. Not recommended for beginners.
not good for every type.......2004-06-26
All forms can be applied only by the movement of some types of internal kungfu familiar to auther ONLY. Kungfu studens who practice other kind of kungfu such as external martial arts may see no chance to use them or find them useless.
THe book is only good for Tai Chi or Pa kwa. If you practice Shaolin line of kungfu, look for other books.
Very good for practical techniques.......2003-08-01
I found this book very practical, especially in comparison to some other books by the author I have read. The techniques are well described, with good foto's, so that one can practice them easyly. I think a background in a locking-art, like mine in aikido, is important for the basic handling of joints, since the locks can be very dangerous. The book gave me very many variations in my aikido and I liked the many fingerlocks, which I was not familiar with.
Book Description
150 fast and effective joint locks and cavity strikes. Includes fundamental training.

GREAT BOOK!.......2007-05-21
Great manual for kung Fu masters and practioners. A lot of different tecniques inside.
Must have.......2007-02-19
This is THE best book on Chin Na. Pictures and instructions are clear and concise. The author knows the material and gives advice on when and more importantly when you may not want to use the techniques.
Excellent book on Shaolin Chin Na.......2006-08-31
The author is a competent Shaolin Martial Arts expert. This has been endorsed by the authentic Shaolin Grand Masters on the website www.shaolin.com and in the book titled "Shaolin Grand Master's Text ...". The book describes all the categories of Shaolin Chin Na (Seizing and Grapling art of Shaolin Kung Fu).
The illustrations on different techniques in all Chin Na categories are excellent. The book is a good reference for training activity. It is has scientific treatment of the concepts and techniques. It is comprehensive. But ... Caution .. do not use this book to learn this yourself if you are a novice. It may hurt someone else drastically or fatally OR you may injure yourself. An instructor is always necessary to learn any form of Martical Arts. Chin Na is no exception.
I am a good Martial Artist myself and I found this book of immense value.
Comprehensive and very clear.......2006-07-10
This is an excellent volume. The explanations and content are very clear and thorough, and the photographs are also very clear. Anyone who is prepared to pay attention should be able to see what is going on throughout. There's good coverage of basic training for strength and speed, as well as the various types (finger, wrist, muscle-grabbing, etc.) of Chin Na.
shoalin chin na- very special book.......2005-07-11
This is a comprehensive book on a subject of some complexity. It is fantastic to see a book with such complex matter so easily explained and demonstrated.
The layout of this book is heaps better than his earlier works and is much easier to follow than tai chi martial theory was! ( that was a great book too tho!)
I look forward to his next book.....
Customer Reviews:
Decent, but more is out there........2004-01-05
Not a bad book, but look for more recent books on this subject.
A good guide, but..........2001-07-06
This book has been more or less replaced by other books written by Dr. Yang.
Comprehensive Analysis of Chin Na or Instructor's Manual for Chin Na would be better purchases. These are the books that Dr. Yang uses as a guide in his seminars.
Good book, but don't buy it........1999-08-14
This book is decently written and has lots of good information; however, there is a lot that is left out. Also, the pictures could use arrows to demonstrate the moves better. The author has written two other more recent books on the subject which greatly improve on the first. Buy one of those.
Excellent for those with basic knowledge of these moves........1998-01-17
Those best served by this book will be those who have had some chin na/grappling experience. To learn these moves ONLY from the book could prove difficult, but not impossible. There is an excellent video companion to this book.
Book Description
The book "CHIN NA FA" was written by Liu Jin Sheng in collaboration with Zhao Jiang. The first edition of the book was issued in July of 1936 as a manual for the Police Academy of Zhejiang province. The book was printed by the publishing house Shan Wu in Shanghai. "...If you are in command of this technique, you can sway the destiny of the enemy. You can kill your enemy, cause unbearable pain, tear his muscles and sinews, break his bones or make him unconscious for some time and completely disable him to resist. Even a woman or a physically weak man who mastered this technique can curb a strong enemy. This technique demands deftness and skill, not brute force. It is necessary to train oneself daily to make the body flexible and nimble, but "hardness" must be hidden inside this "softness." /Author Liu Jin Sheng. The Police Academy of Zhejiang province. 1-st of May of the 24-th year of the Chinese Republic (1935)/

Customer Reviews:
First and last book of this kind.......2007-07-25
If your an open mind trying to find a world view that makes sence you might get trapt into such paradoxes as this. Please be careful tho because to ponder and live by thinking this a reality will only let you be perceptable to other ignorances of the sort.I can't say the material in this book is titly nitted to have everything make sence If your looking for reasurance of quantities beyond the material search your Bible from a point of view that is not of the culture but in a literal sence. There are ways of being sure there, as is the human condition is fully paralell to what most would agree on. Hope you find what your looking for or perhaps who seeks you.
a must read for truth seekers.......2007-05-23
This was the first book I've read written by Delores Cannon, and have since ordered several more by this author. This book is a real page turner for the truth seeker. She comes across as very down to earth despite the unconventional subject matter. She maintains her cool when speaking with channeled advanced beings, when many of us would just freak out. She gets eye opening, mind blowing answers to a lot of questions that I've often wondered about.
The Custodians: Beyond Abduction was Riveting!.......2007-02-17
Delores Cannon's fascinating accounts of sessions with hypnotically regressed individuals and their alien experiences were riveting. I couldn't put the book down! I highly recommend this book for anyone with even the slightest interest in the subject.
Aliens in Action.......2006-05-10
I bought this book after reading 'Keepers of the Garden' and before reading either of the volumes of 'The COnvoluted Universe'. I had bought the latter two volumes in order to learn of the kind of fate waiting in the wings for humanity, post 2012. However, I am glad that I followed the suggestion given by the author in Book One of 'The Convoluted Universe' and read 'The Custodians' before I read the other two volumes. In some way, it is a gradual build up to progressively stranger phases of existence.
To say that the information uncovered from the subconscious by Dolores Cannon's method of trance hypnosis is mindboggling is an understatement. A whole new universe opens up for the reader as one gets a glimpse of consciousness, far more refined than one can comprehend. It has to be this way in order to be able to use the technology that they do, a technology defying human comprehension.
In 'Keepers of the Garden', one learnt of our origins and the role of extra terrestrial beings in seeding our civilization. One encounters, not only the very advanced technology they use to travel with, but also intuits that their intentions for humanity, are totally honourable and would bring benefit to our suffering planet. In 'The Custodians', one gets to see the extent of their involvement with Homo Sapiens, and their work, from closer quarters. One gets to see how their interaction with individuals from our race fit into pieces that are experienced as 'missing time' for those people, as their subconscious endeavours to protect them from handling more information than they can take. One learns of implants placed in their bodies that can transmit information, of astronauts who have been lost in space missions, of the unsuccessful Alien interaction with Governments, of energy beings who can take on a physical mantle and more. Often in this book, the subconscious of the regressee is taken over by other beings overseeing alien activity, who want their side of the truth to emerge, in the face of governmental disinformation and uninformed mass scepticism. However, the material is carefully graded and no more is given out in this book, than can be put clearly inside a definite framework.
Like all of Dolores Cannon's books, this is a fast read. It is not as engaging as 'Keepers of the Garden' but that was because new ground was being prepared. In this book, she fortifies the structures that she built earlier.
A book to be put in the not-to-be-missed category.
It's a page turner.......2003-09-22
I couldn't wait to read the next section in this fascinating book. Dolores relays to us the direct testimony of a few contactees. And she herself, while not an experiencer, is delightfully honest and simple. I found the testimony fascinating and very revealing and am anxious to read the sequel, which I've ordered. It seems to me that something really big is happening, and I dare say something wonderful. Books like these are the first signs of a stunning reality that I believe is now gradually unfolding.
