Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Thomas Wolfe's trusted axiom about not being able to go home again gets a compelling spin through the African veldt in Alexandra Fuller's Scribbling the Cat: Travels with an African Soldier. Fuller (Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight : An African Childhood) journeys through modern Zambia, to battlefields in Zimbabwe and Mozambique with the scarred veteran of the Rhodesian Wars she identifies only as "K." Intrigued by the mysterious neighbor of her parent's Zambian fish farm and further enticed by her father's warning that "curiosity scribbled the cat" ("scribbling" is Afrikaans slang for "killing"), Fuller embarks on a journey that covers as much cratered psychic landscape as it does African bush country. Though she and "K" are both African by family roots rather than blood, she quickly discovers that 30 years of civil war have scarred them--and the indigenous peoples they encounter--in markedly different ways. "K" is a figure of monumental tragedy, a decent man torn by war-fueled rage, a failed marriage, and painful memories of an only son lost to tropical disease. His adopted Christianity offers him only partial absolution, and Fuller details his gut-wrenching confessions of quarter-century old atrocities with compassion and rare insight. Her prose liberally salted with a rich, melange of Afrikaans and local Shona slang, Fuller nonetheless struggles with a narrative whose turns are often unexpected, yet driven by humanity. There's a clear sense that the author's fitful journey into the past with "K" has opened as many wounds as it has healed, and spawned more questions than it has answered. It's that discomfort and frustration that often reinforces the honesty of her prose--and reinforces Thomas Wolfe's adage yet again. --Jerry McCulley

Book Description

Best-selling memoirist Alexandra Fuller travels with a strangely charismatic Rhodesian war veteran into a modern-day heart of darkness.

When Alexandra ("Bo") Fuller was home in Zambia a few years ago, visiting her parents for Christmas, she asked her father about a nearby banana farmer who was known for being a "tough bugger." Her father's response was a warning to steer clear of him; he told Bo: "Curiosity scribbled the cat." Nonetheless, Fuller began her strange friendship with the man she calls K, a white African and veteran of the Rhodesian war. With the same fiercely beautiful prose that won her acclaim for Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight, Fuller here recounts her friendship with K.

K is, seemingly, a man of contradictions: tattooed, battle scarred, and weathered by farm work, he is a lion of a man, feral and bulletproof. Yet he is also a born-again Christian, given to weeping when he recollects his failed romantic life, and more than anything else welling up inside with memories of battle. For his war, like all wars, was a brutal one, marked by racial strife, jungle battles, unimaginable tortures, and the murdering of innocent civilians-and K, like all the veterans of the war, has blood on his hands.

Driven by K's memories, Fuller and K decide to enter the heart of darkness in the most literal way-by traveling from Zambia through Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) and Mozambique to visit the scenes of the war and to meet other veterans. It is a strange journey into the past, one marked at once by somber reflections and odd humor and featuring characters such as Mapenga, a fellow veteran who lives with his pet lion on a little island in the middle of a lake and is known to cope with his personal demons by refusing to speak for days on end. What results from Fuller's journey is a remarkably unbiased and unsentimental glimpse of men who have killed, mutilated, tortured, and scrambled to survive during wartime and who now must attempt to live with their past and live past their sins. In these men, too, we get a glimpse of life in Africa, a land that besets its creatures with pests, plagues, and natural disasters, making the people there at once more hardened and more vulnerable than elsewhere.

Scribbling the Cat is an engrossing and haunting look at war, Africa, and the lines of sanity.

2 out of 5 stars A Twist on the Truth.......2007-10-02

A well written and fairly well researched book... and an immense disappointment. A married woman, happily undertaking an "adventure" in landmine-ridden Mozambique with a man who is clearly in love with her. Sadly this, together with the fact that yet another unmarried man also falls for her charms, completely detracts from the story. Furthermore, I am a displaced Zimbabwea, and my father and husband both fought on the wrong side of that war. Their memories of that time are somewhat different to Ms Fuller's, and it's very doubtful that a man as tragic and scarred by his internal demons as K would open his heart to this relatively unknown woman. Having read Peter Godwin's excellent "Mukiwa" and "When the Crocodile Eats the Sun" I can honestly say this book falls a distant way behind those two.

5 out of 5 stars Lets Not Go to the Dogs Tonight.......2006-12-28

This is one of the must amuzing and informative books I have read about Africa and being African. I started to read it one night for an hour before sleep and didn't put it down untill well after dawn. Fuller brings to life a vibrant late twentieth centure Africa. Lets Not Go to the Dogs Tonight blossoms in both style and content. It is brilliant.

1 out of 5 stars Disingeneous writing.......2006-12-11

"Scribbling the Cat" feels like an excuse that a bored married woman gave her husband to go have an adventure. Never before have I been so acutely aware of (or speculated on) a writer's ulterior motives in the telling of her story.

It felt as if she was censoring her writing. Was this to protect husband/children? Was this because she was being dishonest with herself? Whatever the reason, I felt as though she was being dishonest with me, the reader.

The story of 'K' is laid bare across the pages of her book in, at times, painful reading. Fuller claims that she undertook this journey with 'K' to confront her own Rhodesian past and tell 'K's story. Yet, at the end, I know as little about Fuller as I did in the beginning. She reveals nothing of herself -- other than the occasional "thin" explanation that to me felt more like rationalization than anything else.

I find the work fundamentally disingenuous, although Fuller is undoubtedly a skillful word smith and creates a compelling narrative.

2 out of 5 stars Not my thing.......2006-11-29

There is a certain subgenre of literature about the Third World that insists on reminding the reader of the heat, bugs, filth, poverty, and misery on every page, turning the problems of the developing world into a sort of fetish. Scribbling the Cat epitomizes the style. In this book full of vivid images, very little actually happens; the protagonist, "K", is a crazed, violent pseudomystical freak on page ten and a crazed, violent pseudomystical freak on page 250. Two stars not one due to Fuller's strong, vivid prose.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant, who cares if the details are not 100% accurate.......2005-10-29

The way Alexandra Fuller describes the people, the attitudes and the land is brilliant. Anyone really involved in the South African conflicts would recognise parts of themselves, or their friends in the different characters that are described in the book. This book is an accurate description of Southern Africa and its people who have been affected by 40 years of tribal conflict and faithfully portrays the complicated relationship between black and white.

I listened to the first book going to and from work. I was hooked; I had to purchase the other 2 audio books. I loved this. I will purchase the books in paperback or hardcover for my middle school library. Great series

5 out of 5 stars A children's classic.......2007-03-19

The Lionboy trilogy is a breath of fresh air in a domain currently dominated by fantasy. Set in an imaginative post-environmental-disaster Europe, the hero, 10-year-old Charlie, sets out to find his parents who have been kidnapped, embarking on a rolicking set of adventures across the English Channel, France, Venice, the Mediterranean, Africa and the Caribbean. While the first book takes a while to gain momentum, by the time you hit the second and third (Lionboy: The Truth) the adventure whips you along, full of twists and turns, breathtaking escapes and unexpected discoveries. The characters (which include lions, cats, a nasty evil corporation, gondoliers, and a Bulgarian king) are beautifully crafted and the hero's gritty determination is something with which any child (and adult, too) will relate. The animals are a sheer delight. The books are interspersed with detailed, charming illustrations that enhance the sheer pleasure of the experience. These are books to be read aloud or to savour under the bedcovers at night.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of the Trilogy.......2007-02-02

Having read the trilogy over the past few months, I was impressed with the quality of this last book. The author uses richer language than in the previous books, and lots more diagrams are included to help visualize the locations.

A few big surprises at the beginning of the book, and an awesome adventure all through.

3 out of 5 stars Just not as good.......2007-01-18

With the humor and tight plotting of LIONBOY, the thrill, excitement, and, yes, more humor of LIONBOY: THE CHASE, this last book came off just kind of...dry. Charlie isn't as interesting, the humor falls short, there is more of Africa and less of Venice (I've got nothing against Africa, of course, and the story wouldn't have worked without it, but the Venetian setting was just perfect in the second book. I mean, lions in Venice?), Charlie's parents are more brusque and dumb than they seemed when they were portrayed as caring, brilliant people, and the ending was much too tidy, even resorting to checking off loose ends and telling what happened. I didn't really mind that so much; the author's style fit it. It was the other flaws that kept staring me in the face. When you strip away the technical details, LIONBOY: THE TRUTH just wasn't as fun, as funny, as exciting as the previous books, with hardly any convincing new characters and the flattening of the old good ones. King Boris and a few others made the second book the best, in my opinion, and he hardly get any screen time (or, I suppose, page time) in this one.

About halfway through the book I realized I was reading it for the sole purpose of getting it off my To-Read shelf, something I'd never felt when zipping through the previous two. I don't like circus books, but I loved the first book, LIONBOY. What does that tell you?

My advice is to read the first two and skip this one. If you're desperate for a conclusion (even though it's one everyone saw from a mile away) then read it, but don't expect it to be anywhere near the quality of the first two.

2 1/2 stars.

P.S. Why does EVERYONE love Charlie?! It's incredibly unrealistic, and in this book I ended up trying to pick him apart for something to DISLIKE. I much prefer it when characters -- or even ONE character -- bad-mouth the main character, making you want to stick up for them. This technique is employed masterfully in Harry Potter with Harry and Snape -- why can't Corder just insert an anti-Charlie who happens to be neutral, not with the bad guys? Not everyone's going to like someone.

Book Description

Africa's wild cats have long been a focus of fascination and intrigue among travelers and wildlife lovers. Alongside the big three -- lion, leopard, and cheetah -- Africa is home to another seven species of cats: the caracal, serval, African wildcat, black-footed cat, African golden cat, jungle cat, and sand cat.

With photographer Gerald Hinde's stunning, crisp, graphic images, Luke Hunter presents a comprehensive overview of the entire cat family in Africa -- the only place on Earth where sightings of wild cats are a regular occurrence. He discusses in detail feline anatomy, predation and hunting strategies, social systems, competition and conflict, and conservation and threats, offering the reader the most current research and findings.

From the famous and popular African parks with their celebrated, safari-friendly felines, to the few remaining places on the continent uninhabited by humans, Cats of Africa offers superb and exciting images of the animals from a variety of locations, depicting rare and interesting behavior, some of which has never before been recorded.

Africa holds some of the most amazing cats on Earth but rarely are these given full-page embellishment and in-depth discussion as they are in Cats of Africa: Behavior, Ecology, and Conservation. The oversize stature makes CATS OF AFRICA look like a coffee table guide but the abundance of text and natural history promises both general-interest and college-level libraries a satisfying blend of color and fact. From feline anatomy and evolution to populations, social systems, threats and cooperative hunting patterns, CATS OF AFRICA is a 'must' for any collection serious about representing African natural history - and will find its home on many general-interest library shelves as a fascinating addition for the general public as well.

Love the book and the fast service. I love all of the books that Jonathan Scott has written. I just wish in the US that we could still see the Big Cat Diary Series.

5 out of 5 stars Leopards rule and rock! No doubt about it! .......2005-07-18

I love this book! Leopards are my # 4 favorite animals of all time topped only by jaguars, tigers, and of course lions. I think they are both cool and beautiful. I loved all the ones in here, most definitely the female ones. They were the most cool and beautiful. The only bad part was any of them getting hurt or killed, but other than that this book rocked! The cubs were cute, also. And boy, did I ever learn a lot about lions and hyenas as well as leopards. Like I said, this is a terrific book. I own it at home and will own it until my dying day. I highly reccomend it to anyone over the age of 12. Man, oh man, Amazon.com, you keep up making books like this.

5 out of 5 stars Lavishly illustrated and informative book about African cats.......2001-02-21

This book is proliferated with Paul Bosman's art. The art includes Paul Bosman's paintings and drawings capturing the moments in the life of the cats. We see the lioness facing it's pray, a leopard resting, a family of cheetahs, a male lion walking through the bush and so on. The illustrations cover lions, leopards, cheetahs, as well as smaller wild cats. I recommend this book for any nature lover, wild cat enthusiast or a person interested in African wildlife.

Book Description

Mummies are a fascinating legacy of ancient Egypt, probably the one that's most familiar today. But did you know that the Egyptians mummified animals as well as humans? Many different kinds of animal mummies have been discovered in Egypt, among them hundreds of thousands of cat mummies. Why did the Egyptians mummify so many cats? To answer this question, Cat Mummies describes the important part cats played in Egyptian religious belief and practice over thousands of ears. Meticulously researched text and illustrations offer a fresh look at everyday life in an ancient civilization, and at a remarkable chapter in the history of the domestic cat.

5 out of 5 stars Glad I Bought It!.......2005-09-11

What an amazing find! We came across this book while looking for Ancient Egypt textbooks and we love it. The author has done an outstanding job and is obviously well researched. The fascination the Egyptians had with cats is very interesting and this book draws you straight into it. Highly recommended and the illustrations are the perfect accompaniment. Just lovely!

5 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet.......2004-02-02

Short and Sweet are the only words that can describe this book. With beautiful color illustrations on every page, you can really begin to understand what these people and their surroundings looked like and what they believed in. Even though I rated this book 5 stars, because of the wonderful artwork and descriptive words, this book was very short. I'm in the 7th Grade, and it only took me 10 minutes to finish, so I recommend just reading it in your library or bookstore rather than buying it outright. All in all, 'Cat Mummies' was very informative, though it could have been just a bit longer.

5 out of 5 stars great great great.......2001-03-30

this 56 page book is filled with lots of info. it is great for all ages. it is filled with great illustrated pictures by Laszlo Kubinyi. it's one of the best books i'v ever bought.

5 out of 5 stars Cat Mummies is a very good book, it provides good info........1998-11-30

This is a good book because it provides a different side to mummies. It has beautiful color drawings of some mummies. It can be helpful when doing a report ,or making a model of one as I did. This book also provides other sources to look at. If you are interested look in your local library or bookstore. (Great for young readers and Egypt book worms)

Book Description

Illustrated with two hundred color photographs, this striking volume reveals the worlds of four neighboring prides that roam the diverse habitats of Botswana's Okavango Delta. Drawing on continuing field research begun in 1995, Pieter Kat shows how Okavango lions challenge long-held assumptions about sociability, mating strategies, and hunting techniques. Pride males readily mate with females from other prides; females often leave their offspring vulnerable to predators; and lions are more prone to hunting mistakes and scavenging than has been commonly believed.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite animal gets a full booked treatment!.......2005-08-08

This is one of the best nature books, or for that matter one of the best books I've ever read in my life! It has beautiful photographs and very detailed and helpful information, and it shows facts about lions that even the kid most interested in lions didn't know. Also, on top of that, it even takes us into the lives of many true lions, and even goes so far as to show us pictures of a lion or lioness's face close up or the animals it lives with, such as leopards, wild dogs, hyenas, cheetahs, jackals, elephants, and vultures. I always have been and always will be a lion lover(as well as a lover of all cool and gorgeous animals)and I recommend this book to any cat fan.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Lion Book!.......2004-08-06

WOW! One of the best lion books I have ever read! I've learned more from reading this one book then any other lion book I have read! It gives you a more in-depth look on lions, and their interesting lives. A must-read for any lion or big cat lover!

5 out of 5 stars I was there!.......2000-07-25

Several years ago I was lucky enuogh to spend a few weeks with Pieter Kat at his camp in Botswana. The experience was tremendous, and as I read his book, Prides, I could once again hear lions roaring in the evenings, see tiny cubs romping with tails and ears of adults, and remember many of the conflicts and struggles that threaten the survival of lion populations in Northern Botswana. The book is stunning. The photos are sensual and captivating; it is easy to spend hours paging through the pictures revisiting brilliant sunrises, herds of zebra, lionesses nuzzling. Harvey has done a commendable job capturing movements, dynamics and expressions, and as you page through, it is difficult to quiet the crunching of dry grasses underfoot and the yapping of jackels on the periphery. The text is similarly impressive. Conservation issues are identified and analyzed within a narrative that moves throughout the lion prides of Moremi Game Reserve and the nearby management areas. Kat increases the scope of research on lion biology in the Okavango Delta and frames scientific ideas around the story of his research. The book is a testament to maintaining biodiversity and wilderness areas and is a beautiful and insightful look at the lions of Moremi.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful tale... (or tail).......2005-01-03

This book is a wonderful experience for any child. It is a perfect book for an adult to read orally to their child (or group of children) and is easy for a child to read themselves. It is a fun stroy that not only explains how a cat got its purr sound, but also why cats and rats dislike each other. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Cat is tricked by Rat into playing a drum........1998-02-24

A cat and a rat were in the garden working on the vegetables. Cat's friendly uncle came to visit him to give him a small drum. Cat was supposed to keep the instrument for memory of his uncle. Rat came and saw the drum which he wanted to play. Cat would not let Rat play any music. So Rat tricked Cat by saying that he (Rat) was hungry and sick. So Cat was nice and let Rat sleep in his bed after serving some porridge. Then Cat left the house to go into the garden. He kept hearing someone playing a drum, so he returned to the house where he discovered that Rat was playing the instrument. Cat tried to eat Rat but ate quickly his own drum instead! And that is how Cat got his purr.
