Book Description
This is the diary ... of a spider.
But don't be worried – he's more scared of you and your gigantic shoe! Actually, he's a lot like you. He goes to gym class and has Grandparents' Day at school. But he also spins sticky webs, scales walls, and takes wind–catching lessons. Lucky for him, his best friend is a fly!
Doreen Cronin and Harry Bliss, the team behind the #1 bestselling Diary Of A Worm, spin a hilarious tale about the upside–down web world of an eight–legged charmer and his unlikely friend, Fly.
Customer Reviews:
Diary of a Spider.......2007-05-24
What do you follow a Diary of a Spider with? Why a diary of a worm of course. While not as fun as Diary of a Worm, this is still a fun read. Bug fans may also like The Bugville Critters Visit Dad and Mom at Work (Buster Bee's Adventures Series #1, The Bugville Critters).
Entertaining and Educational.......2007-05-24
I have always been afraid of spiders. However, as I was reading this book for my youngest daughter (4 years old) she became fascinated with them. She wants to have a few spiders at home and treat them like pets!!! That is the surprising effect of authors' "humanizing" the spiders for the readers.
My 7 years old daughter reads the book again and again for her younger sister and following the advice from Diary of a Spider they always check if there is no spider in their shoes before putting them on (they don't want to step on a spider and do any harm)
In general I find the book well written and beautifully illustrated. It is also educational (spiders are not insects - insects have six legs; spiders shed their skins) and teaches children such good values as friendship, compassion, love, etc. One of the most important statements I found by the end of the book: "... if we took the time to get to know each other we would get along just fine". I highly recommend this book to all loving and responsible mothers. I only wish the book to be less expensive. A paperback edition might be a good idea for mothers with tight budget.
My 10-years-old has recently become fascinated with yet another diary. It's a diary of a cat, titled Why Some Cats are Rascals ( Book 3). It is a fascinating series of cat stories, with great educational and moral values. Also five stars.
Bright illustrations and easy to follow for little ones..........2007-02-08
We love Doreen Cronin's books in our house and this did not disappoint us. We love the illustrations and the story. The kids thought the wisdom shared between the two spiders could be used in their lives as well. Easy for preschoolers to follow and enjoy reading over again.
Caught in the Web .......2007-01-19
A fun book allowing the reader to examine life from the perspective of a spider ... great illustrations with catchy phrases keep the child engaged - while entertaining the adult reader! Check out Diary of a Worm for more laughs!
Funny!.......2007-01-15
This is a funny story but a bit long for my 5 and 6 year olds. I enjoyed it and maybe in a year they will be able to appreciate and understand it a bit more.

David A. Carter, paper engineer extraordinaire, is back with more pop-up bugs! Fans of The 12 Bugs of Christmas, Alpha Bugs, Love Bugs, and the other silly pop-ups in Carter's insect series, will be delighted at the new surprises in store with Easter Bugs. "Spring has sprung and left winter behind. How many Easter Bugs can you find?" Who's in the dip-dyed rainbow egg? How about the egg with baby blue dots? The jeweled egg? The purple peekaboo egg? Inside each brightly decorated egg waits a new bug, unlike any you'll ever see in nature (unless genetic engineering goes awry). There's the fluffy yellow Chick-Chick Bug, with touchable fleecy soft fur. And some shiny silver Raindrop Bugs. There's even a bucktoothed Bunny Bug with turquoise spots. For a spectacular finale, Carter constructs a basket full of every insect depicted. Kids will have a grand old time guessing what kind of creepy-crawly critter lies behind each egg. Here's one delicious Easter treat that won't cause cavities! (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
All kinds of bugs are hiding behind colorful Easter eggs, just waiting for you to find them!
(And there are lots more fun surprises, too!)
Customer Reviews:
Loved this book!.......2007-05-12
I loved this book, the pop ups were really delightful. I would buy the entire collection for my Grandson!
Awesome Pop-ups!.......2007-03-22
I love David A. Carter's pop-up "bugs" books! I've bought several for my grandchildren, ages 5 and under, and they love them too! The pop-ups are so unique - unlike any others I've seen. I WILL be buying more of these books in the future!
Awesome book for babies too !!!.......2004-12-09
My little boy is 10 months now, and ever since he got this book (when he was 6 months) he loves it. I mean L-O-V-E-S I-T !!! As soon as I pull it out he shakes with excitement. He LOVES flipping the easter eggs to discover the bugs underneath, and the last page is especially adorable, with all the bugs in a single easter basket. What an awesome concept. I have had to make some repairs with tape because it is hard to teach a 10 month old to be gentle ! ha ha. But it is SO worth it. This book is HIGHLY recommended even for little babies.
YOU CAN'T BEAT THIS BOOK AS A GIFTD.......2003-04-21
Different colored eggs on each page lift up to reveal the bugs in different costumes but the last page made me gasp as a beautiful Easter basket pops up by itself.Little bugs dangle from the handleof the basket filled with more delightful bugs. the child is then asked how many bugs he or she`found which encourages more careful observation of each page. This book is a real winner and a great bargain for the low price for a new book. Buy it now for next EAster because you will love it as much as your child. A three year old child who loves and respects books can handle this one alone but for the younger child, put it up to be read by an older child or adult. You don't find bargains like this one very often.
colorful and exciting easter book!.......2001-03-31
We received this book as a gift and both my 15 month old and four and a half year old loved it. It has very colorful pop outs, with a nice surprise at the end. The easter bunny must get this one.

A cricket is born who cannot talk! A bigger cricket welcomes him to the world, then a locust, a cicada, and many other insects, but each time the tiny cricket rubs his wings together in vain: no sound emerges. In the end, however, he meets another quiet cricket, and manages to find his "voice." Children will love the repetitive text as they meet a steady parade of new creatures (including a "spittlebug, slurping in a sea of froth"); and of course they'll delight in the happy ending. This is one of a series of large (11.5 by 8.5 inches) format Eric Carle books with a mechanical twist: in this case, the quiet cricket bursts into (surprisingly authentic) electronic song as you turn the last page. (The battery is replaceable.) An amusement for the ears, but most of all--as ever, with Carle--a feast for the eyes. The colorful cut-paper illustrations are simply gorgeous, drawing you in even on the hundredth reading. (And there will be a hundredth reading, followed by many more.) (Baby to preschool) --Richard Farr
Customer Reviews:
A definite favorite.......2007-05-06
This is probably one of my son's favorite Eric Carle books. The repetitive text can be a trifle annoying until you realize it encourages your child to "read along" with you, which is great.
Unique Story - Great Illustrations.......2007-02-17
My daughter (18 mos) and I love this book. I especially like the story as it is unique. A great way to introduce children to different types of bugs. None of the bug names are hard to pronounce, but then again, I was an amateur entymologist in my formitive years. *wink* And the ending with the cricket chirping is very cute. I like this one as much as his other well known books: hungry caterpillar, busy spider, brown bear, polar bear, panda bear, do kangaroos have mothers too, etc etc. Definitely add this book to your Carle Collection.
Great Book.......2007-01-10
This is a great one! We read this one over and over and over.
A darling book.......2007-01-05
A darling childrens book about finding your own voice! The poor little cricket so badly wants to sing, but only when he's ready, and with a little love and encouragement, finally sings his song. A lovely book not only for young ones, but also a nice "reminder" lesson for adults.

Problems with the beetle wings.......2007-10-10
My daughter loves this book. Unfortunately, the silver paint on the blue beetle wings is starting to rub off. None of the other pages have problems so its fixable, but in a product like this its unacceptable.
Love these books!.......2007-09-10
And so does my child.
Throw it in the washer (even though it says otherwise)... Perfect!
Great line of soft books.......2007-08-30
My daughter had several of the Roger Priddy soft books when she was a baby. Though we loved them all (with the possible exception of Snowy Bear - the pictures and colors are just not as attention grabbing), I would have to say that Fuzzy Bee was everyone's favorite. The colors and materials are fantastic.
Chewable book helps baby develop "appetite" for reading.......2007-08-25
I bought this book for my newborn because I wanted her to grow up loving to read. When she was a few months old, she loved to chew on the soft cloth pages and stare at the brightly colored pictures. Then she learned how to turn the pages. Now at 10 months, she still loves to touch the 3-D part of each page and hear me read the simple rhymes.
We love all of the different objects and textures that she can touch and explore on each page:
1) Fuzzy black and yellow bee
2) Black vinyl ladybug spots
3) Pink corduroy earthworm
4) Blue metallic beetle wings
5) Red satin butterfly wing
6) Black stringy spider lega
7) Mesh dragonfly wings
8) Shiny red snail shell
9) Blue metallic fly eyes
This crinkly cloth book is easy for babies to hold and great for teething. It also keeps little hands busy during car rides. Although the manufacturer recommends surface cleaning only, I've successfully washed mine inside a mesh lingerie bag on the gentle cycle. And it still looks new...
My baby girl's favorite!!!.......2007-08-23
We received this book as a gift before our daughter was born. From the time she was born, she's had a bookcase full of baby and toddler books, but this one is by far her favorite. It was the first one she really took interest in...at about 6 weeks old. I think she loves the bold, bright illustrations. Up until she was about 5 months old, she'd go through a seriously fussy period in the evenings...nothing could calm her down like reading Fuzzy Bee! It worked like magic. She's 6.5 months old now and still loves it! We also have Squishy Turtle -- it's also a hit but not to quite the same degree.

Product Description
Horn Book : A rhyming text describes the progress of one hundred ants marching toward a picnic. To travel faster, one ant suggests dividing into two lines of fifty, then four lines of twenty-five, and finally ten lines of ten. Their frantic reorganization takes so long that the picnic is gone by the time they arrive. The illustrations, which look like linoleum cuts, use a pleasing palette and energetic lines to depict ants with highly individual characters. Publishers Weekly : "A first-time author and illustrator are off to an impressive start in this spirited story . . . The unexpected pairing of sophisticated art and light-hearted text lends this book particular distinction."
Customer Reviews:
Great read aloud.......2007-09-13
This is a terrific book -- when you get into it, the words are almost automatic. The math just sort of sneaks in. Very fun to read.
My number-loving 4 year old can't get enough!.......2006-05-14
My son LOVES this book! It is now one of his favorites, along with The Greedy Triangle. My son is high-functioning autistic and is obsessed with numbers - he loves to play with calculators, adding machines, and cash registers. So this book was right up his alley. He seems to be understanding the math lessons behind the book, as well, so it is both entertaining and educational for him. Highly recommended for math-curious kids.
They use this book at my child's school to teach math concepts........2006-03-04
This book was sent home with 100 unifex cubes to use along with the book. We used the cubes as the ants. We started off with one line of 100 cubes (as the ants). Then, in the story, they split into 2 lines of 50, so we split our cubes, too. Then, 4 lines of 25, and so on.... Excellent book to use with the cubes to demonstract how many different ways to make 100.
Elisa- Elementary Ed. Student at U of A and Pima.......2005-03-11
I read this book to my two cousins, one who was age eight and the other six. The older one did not like the story very much, she thought she was alittle too old to be listening to a book about ants going to a picnic. However the younger one enjoyed the book, even though she did not understand the division. She enjoyed the way the book flowed, the pictures, the story and most of all the "hey and a hi dee hos". I think for younger readers this book is really fun and instructional.
math can be fun.......2005-03-11
I am a current Pima College student. The book was read to a class of second graders. They seemed very receptive of the fact that it rhymed(in fact they loved it). I asked one student named caitlyn, if she understood the math concept it taught. She said she did not realize math was involved. So although the concept is somewhat suttle to children I think this book would be a great introduction to division. So i would recomend this book to anyone with kids or to teachers.

Children's book/lots of rhythm.......2007-07-26
I'm giving this a book a 5 star rating.
It captured the attention of my children.
It has a fast and exciting pace and rhythm...
It's a cute story that holds your attention in suspense while waiting to find out what every character in the book is running from!
Sweet ending.
Great book to read to perk up a young reader crowd.
Okay if your child is old enough to understand the word KILL.......2007-05-24
Lesson to me; read the whole book before I buy it. I glanced at the first couple of pages and bought it for my 3-year old. As I read it to him that first night, I quickly had to adapt some words to be more appropriate for his age. I changed 'whip' to 'hurt,' 'gun' to 'stick,' and tried to sort of skip the 'kill' pages altogether. My child is not ready to have the terms kill, dead or death explained yet. Not that 'dead' or 'death' are in the book, but how do you explain 'kill' without them? Another year or two, maybe, but not yet.
I think I'll put this one up on the top shelf for a while. I do like the message that you don't need to be afraid of everything, but it's not the way I want to convey the message.
A Fly went by.............2006-12-06
The fly went by is a book about a young boy who sitting by a lake, then he see a fly flying away from somthing and it soon becomes a big cahin. The little boy goes in search of what had caused all this maddness.
It was fun trying to guess what was chasing them. As you got into the book you wanted to keep reading to know what happened and they were being chased.
The pictures in this book were really colorful and good illistrations. I could see exactly what was goin on. This would be a good book to read, even though it's a little long.
Book talks about whipping and killing.......2006-10-18
This book starts out cute...but then is VERY disturbing...here are some quotes:
Basically a cow thinks the fox wants to kill him, the fox thinks the huter wants to shoot him with a gun...
"The Fox is there! He comes to Kill!!"
"Oh shame, shame, shame For what you do! You want to kill the little cow!"
"I Saw a man! He had a Gun, He wants to get me! Let me Run!"
Fly Went By.......2006-06-03
This is one of my favorite books from years ago. I recommend it for any young new reader! Great rhyming, helps learn to read, learn about nature, its just a good read with your youngster! It brings back memories with me and my mother and me and my son!
Dont worry about pics that could be interpreted differently - life is life. And thats part of the book!

Customer Reviews:
Interesting perspective.......2007-05-07
I am a teacher who works with small groups in our school. One of the things I try to do is help kids look at things from different points of view. This story is told from the point of view of the ants, which is, of course, very different from the human point of view. Some parts of the books should definitely be discussed, because it may not be obvious to children that a forest could be blades of grass or that hot brown bitter liquid could be coffee. Follow-up activities might include students drawing their own pictures from an insect's view point, or writing a story about a small creature's adventures.
Two Bad Ants.......2007-03-21
I read Two Bad Ants by Chris Van Allsburg. I liked and would recommend this book because I liked this book and it is hysterical and it has animals in it , also it is interesting. In the book I read many funny parts . For example "Suddenly the disk they were standing on rocketed upward and the hot ants went flying through the air. This helped convince me that it was a good book.

I read two bad ants. I think this is a fantastic book because the author showed not told and I think that is great .
In the book I read'' as soon as they had cimbed inside, their hiding place was lifted, tilted, and lowerd into a dark space'', this helped convince me that it was a good book.

Along the way, beginning readers will find out how butterflies see thousands of images at once, drink nectar from flowers, avoid predators, and can be identified by size, shape, and color. Readers will also follow the amazing migration of millions of monarchs.

You'll never look at beetles the same way again. When masterful paper engineer Robert Sabuda works his pop-up magic, you're sure to find beauty and wonder in the thorniest of creatures. About 350,000 kinds of beetles creep across the surface of our world, but don't worry, Sabuda and cocreator Matthew Reinhart only include a few here, including dung scarabs (move the pages to "roll" the dung!) and the giant horned Hercules beetle of Central and South America. The colorful, metallic exoskeletons explode to life with every well-designed page, causing even the most beetle-phobic to marvel at their intricate anatomy. Funny, accessible sidebars ("Don't talk with your mandibles full") are sure to engage young naturalists in search of factoids about the eclectic, leggy group Coleoptera. To top it all off, each pop-up book comes with a paper frame with a plastic-encased, paper-engineered specimen of Phalacrognathus muelleri, the Australian stag beetle. (Beetles were not harmed in the making of this book.) A wonderful gift for the young naturalist on your list! (The Young Naturalist's Pop-Up Handbook of Butterflies is also quite fetching.) (Ages 6 to 10) --Karin Snelson

My daughter.......2003-10-16
My daughter loves this book, not just because I love it. It came with a framed paper butterfly she absolutely loved. When I was reading it to her she was asking questions and was so into the book and she learned all about butterflies.
'Pop' Full of surprises.......2003-05-03
My soon to be four year old son (and Mommy) LOVES this pop up book. It is a wonderful work of art and informative! Two BIG thumbs up on this one!
Excellent, Beautiful, Fun.......2003-03-01
My five year old budding naturalist loved it.
Great Book.......2002-11-29
I bought this book for my daughter last Christmas. We still read it at bedtime. The paper butterflies are beautiful and tough. The writing is factual and engaging and the butterflies have kept their shape and stood-up pretty well to little hands bending, pushing, and pulling. The paper butterfly which comes with the book is nice too. We also have the "Beetle" book, which is pretty spectacular as well.
good GIFT Idea..."Butterflies:fluttering flowers; moths:all.......2002-07-23
in the family; Life cycle: look at how you've grown; behaviour; defense: poisons, points and pretenders; diversity: all the colors of the rainbow"!
LESS APPROPRIATE words are sometimes better. I will therefore apply the K.I.S.S. ("keep it simple, stupid/silly) principle with regard to my review for this lovely book--
"Young Naturalist's pop-up Handbook: BUTTERFLIES" will make both your heart and soul "FLUTTER!!!"

Elena's Mom.......2007-03-20
I bought this book along with the Owl At Home for my 22 mo. old who loves for me to read to her. She really enjoys the book and can refer to the story titles that she wants me to read, however, in "The Club" story the words "stupid" and "dummy" are used. I penciled them out and replaced them with "silly". I feel that my 22 mo. old does not needs to learn these word right now. Other then that I recommend this book.
Grasshopper Review.......2005-03-01
I would recommend this book to anyone, both young and old. The grasshopper wants to go on a journey and he finds a road. On this road he encounters many insects different from himself. His meetings are funny and make you want to turn the page to see what he might encounter next. It is easy to read for early readers and is a cute and silly story that makes reading fun.
Stories For Children / Allegories for Adults.......2002-10-09
A grasshopper has six different encounters on his journey through the 57 pages of this book. In the first encounter, "The Club," he meets a group of beetles that enthusiastically rally for "morning," but become rather cross when they discover that the grasshopper loves "afternoon" and "night" too. In the second encounter, "A New House," the grasshopper comes upon a worm that lives in an apple, which suddenly begins to "roll down the road" and smashes "into a hundred pieces." The completely unfazed worm then crawls into "a new house," as if the previous home meant nothing at all. In the third encounter, "The Sweeper," the grasshopper runs into a housefly that is intent on sweeping "until the whole world is clean." In the fourth encounter, "The Voyage," the grasshopper comes in contact with a know-it-all mosquito that insists that the grasshopper use a "little boat" to cross a tiny "puddle" that the grasshopper could easily step over because "it is a rule" and "rules are rules." In the fifth encounter, "Always," the grasshopper, who does "something different every day of his life," meets three butterflies who "do the same thing at the same time each and every day." In the final encounter, "At Evening," the grasshopper comes across two dragonflies "zipping and zooming" around so rapidly that they "do not have time to look at" nature's wonders, as opposed to the grasshopper who is "happy to be walking slowly down the road" taking in everything. A child who has learned to read at age four will be able to handle this at age five and six, but will most likely not comprehend the intended satire and allegory.
Grasshopper on The Road.......2001-06-02
I thought this book was fine. I like the book. This book is a neat book.
Grasshopper on the Road.......2001-05-17
I like the book called Grasshopper on the Road. Grasshopper wants to go on an adventure. He finds a road. He finds one that goes all around town. In his adventure he meets some bugs along the way. I would give it a 4. I like the pictures and story but I didn't like all the dark colors that the illustrator used. Dark colors are gloomy.
