Well I loved it!.......2006-03-22

I'm glad I did not use to other two reviews before mine to make my decision on this book, because I gave it a chance and found it to be beautiful and informative. There are many kids books out there that get nitty gritty on the science of wolf life, but this one is more artistic and creative. Arnosky's paintings use different colors than might be found in nature at a given moment, but that it why I like them - they are gentle and expressive and convey his feelings about the gorgeous animals he is observing. As to the complaint that he should have studied wolves out west for his "one whole day", that would be nearly impossible. Having worked in national parks that have wolves, I can tell you that the average person is lucky to get even a short look at one, nevermind watch a pack all day. Even experienced researchers have difficulty observing them for long periods. The point of his book was to tell what he saw them do for a day, and to do that of course he had to be somewhere where they were watchable for that long. I think this is a lovely book, and also recommend Arnosky's other nature books, especially "Wild Ponies".

One Whole Day - Wolves.......2001-11-01

As an elementary school teacher (2nd grade) who teaches a large unit on wolves and wolf behavior and who has quite an extensive library of children's books about wolves, I was disappointed in Jim Arnosky's book. I also anticipated a higher quality publication from National Geographic. Much of the author's research came from visiting a captive wolf facility in northwestern New Jersey. I would have much rather seen his research coming out of Yellowstone, Idaho, or Montana. Young children can be pretty sophisticated when it comes to learning about wildlife. I think the author could have gone into more detail in his descriptions and could have added much more information re: such things as wolf communication, pack structure, and the predator-prey relationship. Children enjoy learning about such things and there are many better books in print that give children a much better picture of the gray wolf in North America. I was also not impressed by the book's illustrations.

Helpful for exam prep..........2007-05-12

This guide was a concise and clear way to review the exam material quickly and throughly. I recommend it as a study tool to prep properly for the exam. I used this along with a few outlines from my classes, as a supplement, and I passed the exam yesterday in the first 90 questions. The exam was easier than the study guide's practice tests...if you do well with the practice exams, you'll be fine on the real deal.

The guide was helpful as a general review. Just took my recertification test and did pass, but was surprized how much the guide left out. Some of the questions/topics on the test were not addressed in the guide. The outline was more helpful if you use it to research and find further information. Good Luck!

I just took NCTRC's exam in Atlanta. I passed. The book helped, but could have been improved with a broader based diagnostic groupings section. The book could also recommed other resources to help prepare the candidate

Overall, I do think the study guide did help me. I took the exam in November and passed. I read over the entire book two times. I also took the practice tests a few times. It helped to have an idea how the questions would be worded on the real thing. I would recommend purchasing this book if you feel a bit nervous as I did about the test. It's good practice for anyone.

I have been looking for jokes for a while to release some of my stress. I think I got it. We all know that not all jokes are funny. But this book provides a lot of well selected jokes which in my opinion is clean and funny. I can't help laughing as I go through it in my spare time, after dinner, after kids go to sleep, mom is away... highly recommend.

Good, but not great.......2006-01-08

This book contains several classic jokes, and some funny jokes I never heard before. It also contains some clunkers. I suspect that reading jokes is just not as laugh-packed as watching a top comic deliver the same jokes in person.

This is my favorite book on Flatweaves. It covers more than just kilims and is very comprehensive. If you are interested in any Flatweaves you should have this book. I use this book when I am trying to identify flatweaves and I find it a simple, user friendly, but comprehensive resource.
