Having a great love and passion for the tiger I am yet to find a more comprehensive book on the subject. This book is expertly compiled and consists of all facts regarding tigers. It starts with evolution and origins of the tiger, anatomy of the tiger, its life and conflict with man and other big cats, as well as the myths and ancient world of the tiger. Brilliantly compiled, laid out and documented. Highly recommended for all tiger lovers or those interested in the big cats. Includes exceptional photography of the tiger in its natural habitat.

This is a wonderful book for those interested in tigers and wildlife. It is comprehensive, which is what i liked the most about it. It has the views of many different experts on various aspects. In addition to describing a tiger's life, it also explains the impact of the tiger on our culture. The tiger's influence on the arts, and is loaded with great pictures. If you like tigers, then order this book!

      I purchased this book yesterday and was impressed immediately. The book has a lot of excellent tips on every aspect of MTB. Another added bonus is the drills it has to help to develop increased riding skills.The tips are set up to gradually build confidence as you progress. The tips by some of the pros Overend and Susan Dematte for example are great. If you are looking for a book to help with all aspects of MTB this is the one to get. I will be recommending this book to friends and that is for sure.

      This was foundational material in the educational training of the Founding Fathers.
      This is the foundation that God blessed in our nation's history. A totally opposite worldview was instilled in the youth of the past, as compared to what is taught today. What an amazing treasure this little book is.

      This is a great reference book to help us learn what the first schools in America taught. This book is referenced in the The Truth Project by Focus On The Family which goes in to much more detail about where our school system started and where it is today. To see how Christianity started the American school system get this book and read it. Hopefully this will provoke more thought about why our government is taking/has taken Christianity out of American schools.

      We heard about this small book and have now bought more than 30 or them. When we show it to our friends, they all want one. People have bought them for their children, grandchildren, and as gifts. It is the perfect illustration of the religious and Christian roots of our nation. It is incredible to think that this was a public school text! Buy it, and share it with your family and friends.

      This particular edition is just a reprint of the original New England Primer. It's great if you're looking at it for historical research, but not useful as a textbook due certain archaic features like "s"s being written as "f"s. It's also extremely small (check the dimension before you order).

        I was extremely skeptical of this book before I bought it because frankly I think Dr. Phil is a jackass.

        Diet and excersize can be a drastic change for some people and this definately has the ability to work you into a healthier permanent lifestyle if you can see past his rambling and raving. If it were more straight to the point it would probably be a good start because it addresses emotional triggers as well as actual life style change.

        If your seriously looking for a change and havent already read previous books about nutrition, diet and excersize I would highly recommend-
        "Small Changes, Big Results: A 12-Week Action Plan to a Better Life" by Ellie Krieger It will help you get through a 12 week program that is a realistic start without having to read past Dr. Phils mind babble.

        I'd like to start off by saying I was biased against this guy like many people are. I mean, solving people's mental breakdowns between commercial breaks, who's kidding who? But, I have to admit, this is really a pretty darn good book about weight loss.
        Let's start with the first two obvious objections about Dr. Phil's weight loss book. 1) He's fat (at least chubby). 2) He knows nothing about nutrition. The rebuttal to these two objections kind of work together. I'll address them by quoting from the book. "There was an eight year period in my career during which my work focused particularly on people who were 100, 200, 300, or more pounds overweight. . ." So he's had lot of experience with weight control, but mostly (if not only) with people who were "grossly" overweight. In his world, when you compare him to someone 100 pounds overweight, he's thin. You could say that the book is aimed at people who are extremely overweight rather than the type of client I often see, who is about the size of Dr. Phil and wants to go down from there.
        I wouldn't say that that makes the book unusable for those who want/need to lose 25 pounds or so. I think the "principals," the basic ideas of the book, still apply. Also, it's interesting to note that, according to the 1999-2000 National Health and Nutrition Survey, about 59 million Americans (31%) are obese, with 64% of Americans (about 120 million) counted as either overweight or obese. [...]A hundred million people is no small market.
        Mostly what the book is about is the psychology behind eating. Most people agree that this is no small thing. Often people have a good idea about what they should do to be thinner, but actually doing something about it is the hard part. A lot of people (including me) put Dr. Phil down because he seems to encourage a quick fix, but that's clearly not what he's suggesting in this book. I think this quote from the chapter "Weight Is Managed, Not Cured," will make that clear. "You must go through many years of maintaining your weight loss to get over so many years of staying so heavy. What your weight is five years from now will be a function of how well you actively manage these things from now until then."
        I think synopsizing the "seven keys" will give you a good idea of what this book is about.
        1) Right Thinking. A lot of really sensible ideas abut self-talk, self esteem, and other internal tricks and attitudes that can help people change their mind about food and exercise.
        2) Healing Feelings. A lot like right thinking, but more focused on the emotions that surround food, exercise, and body image.
        3) A No-Fail Environment. I really liked this one. Clients often tell me they want to stop eating junk food, and then later confess that their house and cupboards are full of the stuff.
        4) Mastery Over Food and Impulse Eating. This chapter contains a lot of really good, practical concepts teaching people to look at how and when they eat.
        5) High-Response Cost, High-Yield Nutrition. This chapter is similar to many other diet books, identifying the difference between high caloric, and high nutritive food.
        6) Intentional Exercise. This chapter contains some good, common sense reasons to move the body, however not quite enough time or intensity for my taste.
        7) Your Circle of Support. I thought this was a really good chapter. This is often overlooked when helping people with weight loss. The basic idea is that you have to gather people around you who will support you in what you're trying to do, and sometimes those who don't will have to go.
        So all in all, despite my reservations about Dr. Phil, I'd recommend the book. I don't think it should be the only diet/weight loss book someone who is serious about losing weight should buy, but it is certainly a good one to have around.

          Out of all the diet books that I have read, I love this the best. I am a 31 year old adult and used this book over dr. phils and lost 15 lbs. Very easy and clear cut well worth adding to the library.

          Prior to reading this book, I had read Dr. Phil's adult counterpart. As an 18-year-old reader, however, I often felt that the book wasn't wholly appropriate for me as it referred to having responsibilities such as a career, kids, bills, etc. It also would include phrases like, "I want the body I had when I was in highschool!" This is obviously not relevant to someone that is still a teenaged student. At the time, I wasn't aware that Jay's book existed, but as soon as I saw it, I decided that I had to buy it.
          Although this book is definitely more appropriate for a teenager, I think it is certainly written for a younger teen. Upon first starting the book, I was annoyed by the colloquial tone it used to establish a, "Hey, I'm young too!" type deal. He started the book with a line like, "What's up?" and uses words and phrases like "crap," "bs," "stuff," etc. He also frequently interjects anecdotes about his friends, family, and life experiences, and repeatedly talks about his involvement in school as a law student. Although I do think it's admirable that he is trying to establish a connection with his reader, it is a little over-done.
          Aside from this being written for a younger person, it seems also to focus on severely depressed people with low self-esteem. For me, as someone who has never been picked on, has never had an issue with low self-esteem, and has no means to relate to the quotes in the book like, "I hate myself!!!," I found most of these parts boring. There is also an entire chapter devoted to those suffering from anorexia and bulimia that I completely skipped over.
          You definitely get over it fast though, and this book was somewhat amusing and as easy read (written on probably a sixth grade level). I was able to read it in two days and found it difficult to put down. My above comments were not at all to criticize the author or discourage someone from reading this, but I would advise an older teenager to perhaps look into other options or even consider reading Dr. Phil's book and deal with the irrelevant parts.
          The bottom line, though, is that this book is definitely helpful to anyone of any age. I personally liked the suggestions of ways to distract myself when I want to snack (I now will take a shower, go for a walk, or paint my nails). The nutritional plan is well-organized and easy to follow, and I actually like this chapter more than the one in Dr. Phil's book. There are certain "fluff" keys I think are used only to make the book longer, but the ones that help really do get the job done. I wish the best of luck to anyone embarking upon a weight loss journey; this book will definitely give you the push you need!

          This book was filled with a lot of information. Even though i'm not currently sticking to the "program", I found out a lot of information that I could share with others who are trying to get into a healthy life-style. If I ever get sick of being so over-weight, then I would find this book very useful. The only thing it did not do was make me realize how much I need to lose weight. But that isn't the book's fault. It's mine because nobody can get it thru my head that if I don't lose weight, I could have very bad health problems later on.

          Really hit the nail when it comes to helping teenagers cope witht their weight problem. Jay addressess everything from how to have a positive out look on life to ways to start taking control of your weight. I was surprised at how much sense it made to me. It was like this book was written with me in mind. It addressed all the feelings i had towards myself and my weight and made me realized that their more to me than just how much i weighed. This book was surprising well written. Jay is a really talented writer and I thought this was just a knock off of Dr. Phils book, but this book really addressess teens and their issues in a way that is easy to relate to. Well Done.

          I am 12 years old and 35 pounds overweight. I got this book about 2 months ago. It had alot of great ideas that really worked. I put this book to the test and in the past month i've lost 10 pounds. I reccomend this to teens(or preteens) who have tryed to lose weight with other diets and had no success. Overall, I think this is a wonderful and really helpful book.
