Worth waiting for!.......2000-07-11
This was one of the few titles I lacked of MRR. I ordered, and it was back-ordered for so long that at one point I didn't think I'd get it at all. But I did and I'm really happy to have it. This book tells of many of the real-life adventures Mary Roberts Rinehart and her family had--back when the great Northwest really was only becoming known. She brought the cowboys, the trail drives, the friendships--and the dangers--to life wonderfully.
Book Description
From 16-pitch trad climbs to one-pitch sport routes, here are more than 230 of the best routes in Yosemite Valley, with detailed topos to topropes, cragging, and multi-pitch climbs in the 5.4 to 5.9 range. You'll find the classic Yosemite challenges plus little-known climbs where you can avoid the crowds. The authors have personally climbed and carefully documented each route, continuing the SuperTopo tradition of supreme accurace.

Best Topo book series.......2007-02-13
The SuperTopo series of books is really well organized and presented. I purchased most of its books, including Yosemite Valley Free Climbs, Red Rocks Climbing, South Lake Tahoe Climbing, High Sierra Climbing, Yosemite Big Walls and Tuolumne Free Climbs.
As of today I cannot comment on the accuracy of the topos themselves, as I will be using the books to plan a climbing trip I intend to take later this year. I won't be going everywhere, but I wanted the books to help me decide which places were better suited for my tastes and hability and to inspire me. But the information provided does seem very complete, with lots of attention to detail. There is a supporting web site where they provide updated information on changes to the routes and where climbers can make comments to the topos. This is nice.
That said, I do have some comments on things that could be improved. First of all, Yosemite Big Walls is the only book in the list that comes with color photos. It is in its second edition, and is the last one published. So maybe future editions of the other books will also include color photos (color photos do inspire me a lot more). One alternative is to order the e-book versions, all with color. The publisher sells them at its web site, but there is no discount if you want to purchase both e-book and print. They both cost the same price. Another advantage of the e-book is the possibility of printing just the routes you will be climbing. This way it is less weight to carry, and your print copy is preserved.
In the future it would be nice to see both versions bundled together. I tried to contact the author about his thoughts on that but unfortunately never received any comments back.
Great book.......2006-11-03
I am currently working on lead the 5.11 range and helps me a lot to stay out of trouble and know what to expect in the routes that I attempt. In example, Butterballs, Waverly Wafer and Red Zinger are extremely well described. Whoever says something different is not climbing close to their limit in the valley!
useful.......2006-09-17
useful for the first visit in the valley, good topos, easy approaches, correct ratings . obviously far from complete: why don't add west face of cap and other V grades thet can go free?. interesting historical notes by steve roper on every route.
I spent money on this?!?.......2005-12-20
Terrible, terrible book. This is lazy, unstructured and devoid of any sort new information of old routes. It reads like a series of set pieces thrown together without any overall narrative structure - it's like the authors wanted something immediately to capitalize on and rushed this out. The occasional original thought is swamped by the general literary mediocracy and lack of focus. Very disappointing. And a real case of the Emperor's new clothes.

The Brief Bedford Reader is excellent.......2000-09-19
I purchased this book to use as a text for a composition course I teach. It features excellent sections on composition topics like cause and effect, narration, process analysis, classification, etc. The selections in the book really are "brief". Most are between three and five pages long. The topics and authors addressed are real-world, high interest issues that make great discussion pieces. Personally, I enjoyed reading the selections. They are excellent casual reading pieces.
The Bedford Reader.......2000-08-20
An excellent collection of stylistically important works. Very well-organized and informative as well as fun to read.
Book Description
The civil rights movement’s most prominent leaders, Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929–1968) and Malcolm X (1925–1965), represent two wings of the revolt against racism: nonviolent resistance and revolution "by any means necessary." This volume presents the two leaders’ relationship to the civil rights movement beyond a simplified dualism. A rich selection of speeches, essays, and excerpts from Malcolm X’s autobiography and King’s sermons shows the breadth and range of each man’s philosophy, demonstrating their differences, similarities, and evolution over time. Organized into six topical groups, the documents allow students to compare the leaders’ views on subjects including integration, the American dream, means of struggle, and opposing racial philosophies. An interpretive introductory essay, chronology, selected bibliography, document headnotes, and questions for consideration provide further pedagogical support.

Malcolm and Martin.......2007-03-10
This book presents the differences between arguably the two most famous civil rights activists of the fifties and sixties, as well as showing the convergence between their ideas and ideals toward the end of thier respective lives. It is readable, succinct and thorough. I highly recommend this book, especially to anyone who will be teaching this period in history to middle or high school students.

This book is absoltely terrific. It gave me everything I needed to understand the differences and similarities between these two phenomenal leaders.

Book Description
A Crazy Mixed-up School.
There'd been a terrible mistake. Wayside School was supposed to be built with thirty classrooms one on top of the other...thirty stories tall! (The builder said he was very sorry.)
That may be why all kinds of funny things happen at Wayside SChool...especially on the thirteenth floor. You'll meet Mrs. Gorf, the meanest teacher of all, terrible Todd, who always gets sent home early, and John who can read only upside down--along with all the other kids in the crazy mix-up school that came out sideways. But you'll never guess the truth about Sammy, the new kid...or what's in store for Wayside School on Halloween!
There was a terrible mistake-Wayside School was built with one classroom on top of another, thirty stories high! (The builder said he was sorry.) Maybe that's why all kinds of funny things happened at Wayside-especially on the thirteenth floor.

Childhood love.......2007-09-30
These books were great when I read them in forth grade now my son will have the chance to also enjoy them!
Wayside School boxed set.......2007-09-28
I remember these books from when I was in elementry school. I loved them then, and can still remember the wacky stories. I loved them so much in fact that I wanted my own son to read, and enjoy them as much as I did.
Wacky, hilarious, and a great price!.......2007-07-22
The humour, wackiness, and strange characters make this such a great book for young readers. The very creative stories are quite strange, but they are also highly loveable, and will be treasured by readers.
super value.......2007-05-09
Great set! My daughter loves these stories (and I do too!), so we probably should have gotten these in hardcover since they will get a lot of wear & tear.
Great book.......2007-03-09
I first read these books when I was about 11. Now I have an 11 yr old and a 9 yr old. Neither of which like to read. They both read the first book, and picked up the others and read them without being asked. Now they are reading all his other books. It definetly gave my kids the joy of reading.

Wayside School is Falling Down by D18.......2006-12-08
Do you like funny stories about school? How about books on zany teachers? If your answer is "yes" then this is totally the book for you! With 30 wacky stories, Wayside School is Falling Down, by Louis Sacher, is one of those `hard-to-put-down' books. The story all starts when the architect who built the school built it with 30 classrooms on top of each other instead of side-by-side. If you think that's a weird beginning, try imagining a teacher teaching her class to make pickles, a girl who saves a boy's life by pulling him in through a 30th story window by the girl's pigtails, and a class where nobody is weird because nobody's normal! With fantasy as its genre, Wayside School is Falling Down not only includes all those and more, but is a great book for comedy-lovers of all ages!
Katherine's review.......2006-08-22

Wayside School Is Falling Down.......2006-06-14
Do you like funny stories? Do you like stories with cows? Well if you said yes then you should read Wayside School Is Falling Down by Louis Sachar. There are lots of characters in this book. For example, Benjamin Nushmet, he is a new student at Wayside school and says his name is "Mark Miller". Another person is Miss.Jewls. Miss.Jewles is a fun teacher, whoose classroom is o rge top of Wayside school. There arer lots of other people to. You should read Wayside School Is Falling Down because it is very funny and has a lot of stories! (The chapters are stories, that take place in Wayside school.) I liked this book beacuse it was really funny! My favorite chapter was the last chapter because the school was filled with cows!! So you should read Wayside School Is Falling Down!
A funny and weird story about school.......2006-05-31
This book is about a school with a teacher who is not very smart at all. She says things like "It matters what is on the inside" but what she means is wearing expensive underwear. The kids love her because class is very easy. One teacher is on the 19th floor, but there is no 19th floor. This book made me laugh because school is usually serious and this was just really funny. I would recommmend this book to kids who don't like school because it might make them relax and see that school can be funny too. JG
Wayside school is falling down .......2006-03-14
Wayside school isn't like other schools. Wayside school is 30 stories high. Mrs. Jewls classroom is on the 30th story. Weird things happen in that school. Like when Sharie brought a hobo for show tell. Or Mark Miller the new kid, whose real name is Benjamin Nushmutt but after Mrs. Jewls introduced him as Mark Miller he's been to afraid to tell anybody his real name. And there's a lot more wacky sideways stories about the kids in wayside school waiting discover.
